Is it possible to synchronize mail between all iOS and OS devices?

I am running an iPhone 5 and iPads 3 & 4 with iOS 8.1 plus 2 MacBook Pros, and 3 (4th ordered) Mac minis with OS Yosemite 10.10. I also use an iPhone 4 and iPad 1 with older iOS software but mail is not important on them. I am the only user of these devices (reason = personal convenience).
I have mail accounts with Hotmail, Live, iCloud, Yahoo and Centurylink.
My problem is that because the mail is not synchronized (deleting an email on one device does not delete it from other devices or from the server) I now have up to and over 10,000 accumulated emails on various devices. I don't mind keeping all my old emails IF I could eliminate all the emails I choose to delete from any of the devices.
The result is that email has become unmanageable for me.
I had very high hopes that Apple would fix this with Yosemite and iOS 8.1 but that does not appear to be the case.
I suppose I could work around it by always going to Hotmail, Live, Yahoo, Centurylink etc. on the internet and not using iOS and OS mail but that seems a dumb way to have to do it.
Every time I buy a new iOS or OS device (like the new mini) it compounds the problem with yet another disorganized mail mess.
There is so much spam, phishing, data mining etc. going on that I use the multiple email accounts to pre-filter anticipated email responses. As an example I need a Yahoo account to use Yahoo but I know almost all Yahoo mail is spam so I can ignore it most of the time.
Any suggestions?
Thanks

Thank you for your reply.
I am somewhat new to iOS and OS having grown up with DOS and Windows. I am not familiar with IMAP and iCloud and I am not even sure which types of servers my various emails use.
The problem I would anticipate with iCloud is that (I assume) it would limit my access to data (including mail) on the iCloud to when I happen to be logged onto the internet. I also assume(?) that large files (photos etc.) would require some time to download whenever I wish to access them from whichever device I happen to be using (I hope I am wrong about this).
I have kept my devices to 500gb - 1TB for OS and 32gb - 128gb for iOS but since I have pretty slow WiFi (shared with DirecTV Whole Home and Netflix streaming) it is my impression that iCloud might be quite limited due to data transfer times.
Perhaps a factor would be that I have 2 DSL lines and my main DSL line is connected to two wireless routers (to also provide WiFi in a metal building that blocks WiFi and Cellular signals)
I may be totally wrong in my assumptions regarding iCloud. My mail is not so urgent that I need access to it instantly and I could wait until I had internet access or I can get it on my iPhone. My main concern with iCloud would be my data files (Word, Pages, Excel, Numbers etc.).
On the other hand, if I wanted to keep my 10,000 emails that would take up a lot of iCloud memory and I don't know how to measure how much storage it would take or how to move Hotmail or even iCloud mail to iCloud.
It may take me some time to figure this out.

  • Synchronize mail between computers

Is there a way to synchronize mail between my main computer and my laptop. So If I read messages on one computer, the other will also appear as if I read it. Both computers are running latest OS. Thanks for any help.

Comcast does not provide an IMAP type account - you can access your Comcast email account as a POP type account only.
Is your old Mac running Tiger? If not, you can't transfer the Mail folder from a Mac running Jaguar or Panther to a Mac running Tiger since the mailbox format used by Tiger Mail is significantly different than the mailbox format used by Jaguar and Panther Mail.
If both Macs are running Tiger, you need to transfer the Mail folder and the Mail.app preference file from the old Mac to the new.
I used the Migration Assistant to transfer everything from a Mac running Tiger to a new Mac with Tiger pre-installed without any problems but the Migration Assistant should have worked regardless.
If both Macs are connected in some fashion, you can use the Import Mailboxes feature with the Mail.app on the new Mac to import all mailboxes from the Mail folder on the old Mac.
This link includes some basic information on the differences between an IMAP and POP type account.
    http://www.imap.org/
An IMAP type account is beneficial when accessing the same account with an email client on multiple computers. In addition to the account's Inbox mailbox, you can also store Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk messages on the server with the email client on multiple computers so all account mailboxes/messages stored on the server are kept synchronized with the server by the email client used on each computer. When a received message is marked as read with the email client used on one computer, the message will be marked as read when the account is checked with the email client used on a different computer. You can also create additional server stored mailboxes to sort/store selected messages by category on the server and all messages in any user created server stored messages will be available and kept synchronized with the email client used on each computer.
None of this is available with a POP type account which is primarily designed to be accessed with one computer only.
An Apple .Mac account can be accessed as an IMAP or POP type account but most internet service providers such as Comcast support POP type accounts only.

    Hi Joshua,
Does this mean that I need to install the core and sub component but no need to install the DS and AD connectors. No!!! Core must only be installed on one machine! Here is a short summary of the steps during an installation having sun ONE LDAPs in multi-master replication (taking ldap2 as the machine, whrere core is installed):
    1. Install core on ldap2
    2. start console and configure your directory sources. For the sun directory source enter ldap2 as the preferred and ldap1 as the secondary ldap. Configure the rest: attribute-mapping, modification flow, AD-source, SULs, etc. save the configuration.
    3. on ldap2 run idsync prepds untill you get the SUCCESS message in the following way (be sure to specify the secondary ldap with -j and -r options):
    idsync prepds -h <ldap2> -p <ldap2port> -j <ldap1> -r <ldap1port> -D "cn=directory manager" -w <passwort> -s  <configuration_registry_suffix>4. Run the install binaries again on ldap2. Install DS Connector on ldap2, install DS-Subcomponent (preferred) on ldap2. Install AD-Connector.
    5. Copy over install binaries to ldap1. Run the install binaries on ldap1. Give ldap2 as configuration directory URL When you are asked, what components to install, select subcomponent. Select the suffix. When you are asked, what type of ldap, select secondary.
    6. Copy over install binaries to any ldap slave in your replication topology and install the subcomponent there, choosing "other" as the ldap type.
    Good luck again...
    Jakob.

  • "Deleted items: Synchronize deleted items between this mailbox and my device?" questions

When I log into the BIS site for Sprint, it gives me the option at the bottom that says
"Deleted items: Synchronize deleted items between this mailbox and my device." at the very bottom
What does this really mean? I am confused because when you delete an email off the blackberry, it gives you 3 options, delete from "mailbox & handheld," "handheld," and "cancel".
So, if I have the "Deleted items: Synchronize deleted items between this mailbox and my device." clicked...does that mean when I just choose delete from "handheld" only, it will STILL delete the email from my actual "mailbox" too?
I don't want it to delete the email from my "mailbox" if I choose to delete from "handheld" only on my blackberry
Does anyone know more about this?
    Thanks guys

    in my opinion :
if you choose to delete on device only, it will never delete on your server.
but best is you to try for one test message and you'll know for sure. And tell us.

  • Stop synchronize Mail between Mac's

    Hi everyone,
last holidays,  I decided to deleted some mails on my iPhone or iPad... only ! because it took too much room on my phone memory.
But when I came back home, and decided to work on my macbook, I discovered that all my mails were deleted too ?
I realized that all my MAC stuff were synchronized !
Now my question is : how can I do to STOP the synchronization between all my Mac goods ?
You certainly understood : I want to keep everything on my macbook , even if I delete things in my iPhone and iPad.
    Answers ?  Ideas ?
    Thanks to everyone.

You'll need to use an email system that does not sync (so not iCloud, or Gmail, or most of the email systems in existence). Look for a provider who can give you a POP account.

  • TS3276 Is it possible to delete mail from your iPhone and it be deleted from all your Apple devices?

It depends on the email you use, if you have a provider that only allows POP then it is not possible. If your provider supports Imap or Exchange then it is.

  • Syncing Mail Between My iMac and Macbook

I am new to the Mac world (I am a PC convert) and I now have an iMac and a Macbook for work.
I have a couple of questions (some of which belong in this group and some elsewhere but I figured someone here could point me in the right direction):
    1. My company's email does not support IMAP, only POP. What is the best way to keep my email clients sync'ed? Ideally I would like my Inbox and all of my folders to be the same on my desktop and laptop and it would be great if it was automated somehow.
    2. What is the best way to handle my iPhone? Should I make my Macbook the "Sync Master" and only sync it to that?
    3. What is the best way to keep my folders and iTunes sync'ed between my iMac and Macbook? Someone suggested Martian Slingshot as the best way to keep them together. Do other people concur?
Any other advice/experience that people may have on the easiest way to use a Desktop in the office and travel with a sync'ed laptop is appreciated.
As I mentioned, I am very new to the Mac world. I can't really think of any great way to sync them in the PC World either but I am grateful for your help. I know I should have gotten a Macbook Pro but my boss didn't want to get me one so I am stuck with the hardware I have.
    Thanks.
    Jeremy

What I've done with email in the past is set only one of the machines to delete email from the server (if your company allows you that option). But you need to make sure you check with the one that doesn't delete before the other. You may be able to delete manually as well, so don't delete anything from the server until mail has been downloaded to both (I think this can be done in Apple Mail under advanced prefs). But that won't help with tracking replies, etc. And you'll have to manage mailboxes seperately.
.Mac has a bunch of syncing options, but you may not want to go to that expense.
Sorry I don't have any advice on the other stuff, only running 1 Mac.

  • Syncing mail between iMac G5 and Macbook Pro

I work at home on a G5 and regularly read and then delete or file my emails. I regularly sync between my G5 and Macbook Pro, which I use when traveling. My syncing routine works fine with the address book, calendar, etc., but when I go my Macbook Pro Mail account after syncing, the inbox is still full of mail that I have already read and filed on the G5. Is the syncing routine designed to replicate the mail accounts or do I need to reread, delete, and file the emails on the Macbook as well.
PS: I am using email accounts with cox.net, i.e., not mac.com accounts.
    Thanks for any help.
    FLL

The underlying issue here is that you have chosen to use POP3 rather than IMAP mail accounts. Only IMAP mailboxes are 'synchronized' by default: it is virtually impossible to synchronize POP3 mailbox content.
For a discussion of POP3, IMAP and mail synchronization options, take a look at the Mail & Address Book - Tiger forum located here.

  • Mail lost all settings and does not allow to see old messages

One day I launched mail and it appeared as if it was starting for the first time. I aborted the procedure, rebooted and relaunched mail but again. So I regave all the necessary parameters. Then I noticed that Mail had actually kept all the previously custom folders but would not show -a part from the most recent ones- all older messages in Inbox. I looked into Library/Mail/mailboxes and found the missing messages but whenever trying to reimport them into mail got the message that Mail could not find messages in a format acceptable to Mac OS. Actually the messages can be opened with the Mail (but not imported) and have extension .emlx
As an addtional info, the problem appeared shortly after I had switched hosting service but I do not see how this could have affected mails sitting in my hard disk.
It should also be noted that I am receiving and reading new mails without problem.
Any suggestion on how to recover my messages and have them again accessible in my Inbox?
    Thanks.
    Stefano

What you’ve described could be the result of having set up the account differently and Mail not recognizing the account folder already present in ~/Library/Mail/ — see below a more thorough description of this particular issue. If this is a POP account, the most recent messages in Inbox might appear to have been preserved because they were still on the server and Mail downloaded them again as if you had never set up this account in Mail before.
Under some circumstances (e.g. lack of available disk space, filesystem corruption, repeated crashes), Mail may discard the current ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist preferences file and create a new one. This file is where all the account settings are stored. As a result, all your non-.Mac account settings (but not the messages themselves) are lost. If you had a .Mac account, its settings would appear to have been preserved because Mail would set up that account automatically using the System Preferences > .Mac settings.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what’s it all about?
After having fixed all the filesystem issues, if any, and ensuring that there’s enough space available on the startup disk (a few GB, plus the space needed to make a backup copy of the Mail folder), quit Mail if it’s running, and make a backup copy of the ~/Library/Mail folder, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down, just in case something else goes wrong while trying to solve the problem. This is where all your mail is stored.
There are three ways you could have solved this problem (#2 is what you did):
    (1) Restore ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist from a backup if you have one. Mail shouldn’t be running while you do this.
    (2) Set up your mail accounts again. If given the option to import existing mailboxes or something like that, don’t. Just enter the account information and Mail will automagically rediscover the data in ~/Library/Mail/ when done. You’ll also have to re-configure most of your settings in Mail > Preferences. For spam-related security reasons, the first thing you should do is go to Preferences > Viewing and disable Display remote images in HTML messages if it’s enabled.
    (3) Mail may have renamed the old preferences file to com.apple.mail.plist.saved. If that’s the case, you may try trashing the new com.apple.mail.plist and renaming the old com.apple.mail.plist.saved back to com.apple.mail.plist. Again, be sure Mail isn’t running while doing this. Given the circumstances, I would expect com.apple.mail.plist.saved to be corrupt, but apparently that often is not the case and the settings can indeed be restored by just renaming it back to com.apple.mail.plist.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.
    <hr>
For each mail account, Mail creates a folder in ~/Library/Mail/ whose name starts with the account type (POP, IMAP, Mac), followed by the account username and the incoming mail server.
When re-creating com.apple.mail.plist, setting up an account with a username and an incoming mail server that exactly match one of the already existing account folders in ~/Library/Mail/ causes Mail to automatically recognize and reuse that account folder. If the username and/or the incoming mail server are different and don’t match an already existing account folder, however, a new account folder is created from scratch, that account behaves as if it had never been set up in Mail before, the old account folder is simply ignored, and the messages it contains become inaccessible other than by manually importing them or setting up the account again.
If you have more account folders in ~/Library/Mail/ than accounts in Mail > Preferences > Accounts, that means some of the account folders have been created anew whereas others are being ignored by Mail (and hence, you don’t have access to the mailboxes and messages stored within them). You can, however, import their contents doing File > Import Mailboxes, choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format, and following the instructions. You can get rid of the unused account folders afterwards.
Pay attention to the instructions that Mail displays when choosing Mail for Mac OS X as the data format. In the next step, Mail wants you to select the folder that contains the mailboxes to be imported (i.e. the folder where the *.mbox folders to be imported reside), not the *.mbox folders themselves nor the Messages folders within them. If you select the wrong folder, Mail says “No valid Mail for Mac OS X files were found” because it cannot find any *.mbox folders within the folder you’re selecting.
Alternatively, you may try re-creating com.apple.mail.plist again and this time use the exact same username and incoming mail server that Mail used to name the old account folder.

  • User synchronization issue between Active Directory and Solution manager.

    Requirement:
Synchronize the users between Active directory and solution manager system.
    <u>What we did:</u>
    1.     Created RFC connection (LDAP_RFC) for LDAP connector.
    2.     Created new LDAP connector that utilize the RFC (LDAP_RFC).
    3.     Created new logical LDAP Server(CUA).Here we have to maintain the connection
    details to the physical directory.
    4.     We maintained the communication user that is used by the LDAP connector to bind the LDAP Directory Server.
    5.     In transaction LDAPMAP specific SAP data fields, we mapped to the desired
    directory attributes.
    6.     Testing from LDAP transaction working fine. We are able to see the attributes and
    values       from Active directory.
    <b><u>Issue:</u></b>
When executed the program RSLDAPSYNC_USER for user synchronization from t-code se38 with below selection .
LDAP Server = CUA (created earlier)
LDAP Connector = LDAP_RFC (RFC connection created created ealier)
In the tab: (Object that exist both in the directory and in the Database:)
    Selected: Compare Time Stamp.
In the tab: (Objects the only exist in the Directory.)
    Selected : Create in Database.
In the tab(Objects that only Exist in the Database:
    Selected: Ignore Object.
Result from the report shows that connection to LDAP server is fine and ‘0’(zero) objects in Directory.
The program does not create any new user in the Solution Manager system.
Any help on this issue greatly appreciated.

  • My IPAD shows 182 mail in All Inboxes and in actuality there are no mail in any box.

My Ipad the Mail Ap shows 182 mail in red, when I open the Mail Ap, All Inboxes shows 182 mail but in actuality there are no mail, IPAD shows on all mail accounts NO MAIL but the number 182 is still showing, on my Ap and in every mail box.
The question is how can we delete the 182 number?

I don't use Mail, so I'm just using this to bump your msg up the line - hopefully someone who does can come to the rescue.
I do use Outlook, however, and I know that there is an option to download headers only - is there something like this in Mail?
Good luck - hopefully someone will respond (sometimes people just tend to skip over items with long message headers)...
