Is it possible to take a full backup without shutting down an instance?(10g

Hi. everyone.
Is it possible to take a full backup without shutting down an instance?
The db version is 10gr2.
As far as I know, in order to take a full backup of a database,
one need to shutdown a database.
Our db environment is a RAC environment which has two nodes.
Yesterday, I heard from a hardware vendor that we do not need to shutdown
instances(2-nodes) in order to take a full backup.
Best Regards.

Hi,
>>As far as I know, in order to take a full backup of a database, one need to shutdown a database.
In fact, a database operating in NOARCHIVELOG mode is necessary to shutdown the database in order to perform a full backup (Cold Backup), but otherwise a database that is operating in ARCHIVELOG mode, then is possible to perform a full database backup with the database in a open state. (Hot Backup)

    Is it possible to kill a (last) task without shut down the hole App?
    For example you wanna open/import something in Adobe AE and the finderdialog hangs.
    You dont have any chance to save your work before quit the app.
    May it could be a code in Terminal or something like else.
    So, is it possible to whrite it down for me please?
    thx frank

    You can kill any individual process by using Activity Monitor, selecting the process, and using the Kill Process command. The location and precise phrasing of the command will vary by version of OS X; in Mavericks it's the "x" button at the upper-left corner of the screen.
    If it's some part of the application that has hung, though, it's highly probable that killing a process associated with the application will bring down the entire program. In such as case there's almost never any option. In the case of the application hanging in the file open/save dialog, then I don't believe that there will be any way you can recover without forcing the entire application to quit.

  • Mac OS X take a long time before shutting down...

    Hi everyone,
    I have a problem that I can't explain :
    My mac book pro take a long time before shutting down. I don't know why.
    When I click shut down, everything works normally.
    OS X quit my applications, the dock, the finder...
    But it's stay 10 minutes on my desktop background before the logout and finally the shutdown (what's the matter ? what does it do ?).
    I don't know what to do to find the problem...
    Maybe it's a process but I don't know how to localize it.
    What are the minimal processes in OS X (I'll try to find the problem by elimination) ?
    P.S. Sorry for my basic English... French native.

  • Upgraded to 11.2.0.2 and can't take a full backup now

    Hi!
    I'm new to this forum (and SAP) so hopefully i"m posting in the right place.  My role is Database Administrator.
    I upgraded a test database to 11.2.0.2 using the DBUA and now am unable to get a full backup of the database.  Backups are fine in the dev database that was upgraded - a cron job calls a .ksh script which calls BRBACKUP.
    BR0252E Function fopen() failed for '/oracle/$/.saparch$arch1_659_748560082.dbf' at location main-27
    BR0253E errno 2: No such file or directory
    It's looking for archive log 659, which hasn't been written to the saparch directory - the archive logs written out only go up to sequence 658.
    I opened an SR with Oracle, and they said that because the backup is being done with an SAP tool, I should be looking to SAP for support.
    A lot of the BR0252E errors that I've seen online seem to be related to permissions.  Another thing of importance to note is that my Exceed session with the DBUA crashed when I remoted in from home to finish the upgrade.  I checked error logs and didn't see any errors, so proceeded with the upgrade and the database is healthy.  Could there be a saproot.sh script that I missed running, even though I'm not getting a permissions error?
    Thanks for your assistance!
    Erin

    Hi,
    Read this sap note
    Note 952080 - BR*Tools fail with BR0252E Function stat() failed
    [https://websmp130.sap-ag.de/sap(bD1lbiZjPTAwMQ==)/bc/bsp/spn/sapnotes/index2.htm?numm=952080]
    Symptom
    BR*Tools fail with the following error messages:
    BR0252E Function stat() failed for 'origlog' at location BrDiskStatGet-1
    BR0253E errno 2: No such file or directory
    BR0277E Determination of disk volume status for origlog failed
    Other terms
    BR*Tools
    Reason and Prerequisites
    The problem is caused by configuration problems with soft links.
    Solution
    Due to technical reasons, BR*Tools does not accept relative soft links in the SAPDATA_HOME directory. The following soft links cause the above mentioned errors:
    /oracle/SID/origlogA -> origlog
    /oracle/SID/sapdata9 -> sapdata
    Use absolute soft links instead:
    /oracle/SID/origlogA -> /oracle/SID/origlog
    /oracle/SID/sapdata9 -> /oracle/SID/sapdata

  • Take a full webpage screenshot opened in running instance of Internet Exploler

    foreach (SHDocVw.InternetExplorer web in shellWindows)

    mshtml.IHTMLElement2 root2 = (mshtml.IHTMLElement2)docs3.documentElement;
    int width = Math.Max(body2.scrollWidth, root2.scrollWidth);
    int height = Math.Max(root2.scrollHeight, body2.scrollHeight);
    Rectangle docRectangle = new Rectangle(0, 0, width, height);
    web.Width = docRectangle.Width;
    web.Height = docRectangle.Height;
    Rectangle imgRectangle;
    if (imgsize == null) imgRectangle = docRectangle;
    else imgRectangle = new Rectangle() { Location = new Point(0, 0), Size = imgsize.Value };
    Bitmap bitmap = new Bitmap(imgRectangle.Width, imgRectangle.Height);
    IViewObject ivo = web.Document as IViewObject;
    var type = web.Document.ToString();
    using (Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bitmap))
    IntPtr hdc = g.GetHdc();
    ivo.Draw(1, -1, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero, IntPtr.Zero, hdc, ref imgRectangle, ref docRectangle, IntPtr.Zero, 0);
    g.ReleaseHdc(hdc);
    bitmap.Save("D:\\1.bmp");
    bitmap.Dispose();
    Could you please advise me, what I did wrong?
    Maybe there exist some other way to do it?
    Thanks for help!

    Hi ya_roslav,
    I think a simple method is to get a screenshot( because your IE frame is actived).
    If you could get the screenshot bitmap, then you could delete the pixels out of IE frame based on the IE frame start position and its width and height.

  • IMac fan runs full speed on shut down

    Hi Everyone, this has probably been discussed before, but I may have some new information to add that could interest the tech savvy people out there.
    My iMac runs perfectly fine; more or less as it did when it was new. In OS X, when I shut down the computer, the fan runs at full speed indefinitely, unless I unplug it or boot back up.  When running, the fan is perfectly normal (increases speed a bit when doing something taxing).  I've never heard it at full speed before until this started happening.  After following the SMC reset procedure with no luck (I'd like to add that the SMC reset only says it relates to fan problems when the computer is ON), I searched a bit and noticed there are one or two cases where a problem like mine was believed to be a motherboard issue, and therefore a costly fix.
    However, here's the fun part. When booted into Windows 8.1, shutting down the iMac does not cause this issue to occur.  It stays silent, as it should, even if I disconnect then reconnect the power.  This leads me to believe it's unlikely to be a motherboard issue.  However I've wiped, restored, and reinstalled fresh copies of Mountain Lion, Mavericks, and Windows 8.1, and the result is still the same: if I don't want to have to unplug it from the wall, then I have to use Windows to shut it down.
    So then, my questions are these:
    -What is the difference between shutting down from OS X and shutting down from Windows?
    -Is an operating system allowed/able to touch BIOS settings?
    -Is it possible to still be a hardware problem, given this difference?
    My default OS is OS X, and it makes no difference if I change that to Windows.  I also did a PRAM reset, even though that has nothing to do with fans...
    I'd certainly like to avoid a costly repair, if it's just something that a future software update will fix.
    Thanks in advance!
    -Jon
    iMac 27", Late 2012, 3.4GHz i7, 3TB Fusion Drive, 16 GB, OS X 10.9.4

    Hey, thanks for the response.
    The "Startup after power failure" option was not checked.
    I'll try the Extended Hardware test when I get some spare time again - probably tomorrow night.  After that I suppose it is time to either take it in for service/diagnosis, or just keep using Windows to shut it down.  Sleep mode is unfortunately not an option because it eventually goes into hibernate state, which has the same problem as turning off.  I don't like to leave the computer on all night, just from a power-conscious point of view (but yes, I know today's iMacs use very little power). I have it on a power bar now, so I just flick the switch off when I power down. It's not bad as a temporary solution - perhaps permanent if the shop says they have to replace the motherboard.
    As for contacting Apple... I had a 1-hour conversation with them about my iCloud account, because it suddenly stopped working on this Forum site (hence the new account with no points).  Anytime I sign in, it forwards me to the "page not found" error page.  This happens even if I sign in on the apple store then click over to here.  If my login info has an open session, then Discussions just doesn't work.  They were completely baffled (understandably), because the account works on iTunes, iCloud.com, Apple store, and everywhere except Discussions.  I was on the phone with them for over an hour - and the kicker is, even after telling them the same thing happens in other browsers, from other computers, they actually forwarded me to the iMac team.  This is when I lost faith in Apple support.  When one of the staff asked why I don't just phone about the issue, instead of trying to get access to the forums just to post about it, I told them I didn't want to pay $50/hr (or whatever the insane rate is for Mac hardware issues), only to be put on hold and sent around between departments, just to be told I need to send it in for service, which I'm probably not going to do if it's the motherboard.  They never did get back to me about my account issue...
    Anyway, sorry for the rant, I'll keep you posted about the hardware test and more SMC resets.

    Yes it is.  Thank you very much.  You appear to have adaquate hard drive space available.  Now try the following....
    Disconnect all peripherals from your computer.
    Boot from your install disc & run Repair Disk from the utility menu. To use the Install Mac OS X disc, insert the disc, and restart your computer while holding down the C key as it starts up.
    Select your language.
    Once on the desktop, select Utility in the menu bar.
    Select Disk Utility.
    Select the disk or volume in the list of disks and volumes, and then click First Aid.
    Click Repair Disk.
    Restart your computer when done.
    Repair permissions after you reach the desktop-http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2963 and restart your computer.

  • Fan running at full speed after shut down.

    My brand new, three day old 8 core Mac Pro has already frozen three times. I have been reading about the screen garbage and then the freeze. That is happening with me, too. But what is going on right now as I type on my old G4 is that the fan on the new Mac Pro is running full speed and the computer has been shut down! The fan has been blowing like this for at least 30 minutes. I am hesitant to unplug. But I can't just leave the office with it blowing like that. What is going on?

    Have a lot of USB stuff attached...
    Apple keyboard/mouse, Kensington track ball, (then through hub) Logitech web-cam, External HD (USB) for time-machine, epson scanner, iPod USB cable, shuffle, dock, and...ah ha..may be a culprit...a Microsoft joystick for playing x-plane (when I was thinking about what I do when this happens, I said I'd switched resolutions to use xplane..but, of course, I would have had the joystick plugged in as well..this could be the one difference (I only connect the joystick when I'm going to use x-plane)).
    I will experiment some tonight...shutting down with and without the joystick to see if that makes any difference.
    Now that I think of it, that seems to be the one 'difference factor'...and it would be Karma to have the Microsoft hardware messing up my Mac.
    I don't have any extra PCI...nothing in firewire.
    Thanks for giving me a possible lead...I'll report back.

  • I installed Canon software on my macpro laptop and it takes forever to startup and shut down

    Hello.  I recently got a Canon Rebel T3 and in order to download photos to my macbook pro I had to install their software.  Well, after installing it, it takes VERY long to shut down and start up my laptop.  Can someone help?  I already deleted the software off the laptop, but that hasn't seem to fix the issue.

    "... I already deleted the software off the laptop, but that hasn't seem to fix the issue."
    I doubt that the software was the issue. So why not tell us what model MBP you have and how much free space is on the hard drive. When was the last time you booted to the OS installer disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Utility? BTW, you may not need their software to download pictures to your Mac. Launch iPhoto and from the menu: iPhoto>Preferences>General: Connecting Camera Opens.....

  • Schedule backups at shut down

    I'm one of those who shuts down my Mac at the end of the day. Is there a way that I can have my Mac run a back up program when I select shut down. I want to be able to tell it to shut down and then walk away and have it automatically run the program before it shuts down.

    If not you might try and Carbon Copy Cloner ,free for both cloning backups, I believe. Or, SuperDuper free for clonng $29 to use for all features. But Prosoft makes excellent software and it would be hard to believe the feature isn't there, somewhere...
    Not to worry about "credit", it's not the PC you're on. That feature in Discussions is temporally disabled.

  • Is it possible to take incremental logical backups via EXPDP in Oracle 10g

    Guys,
    I am curious that can EXPDP be used to take the incremental logical backups. If so then please let me know how it is possible.
    Regards
    Asif

    There is no incremental specification clause like the one in the export command (INCTYPE). If you ever used the export incremental option, IMO it was not actually an incremental export, it was just enough for a table to change one row to consider the complete Table to be exported on the next exp execution. Not quite a practical approach, overall considering that regularly the more sized tables are those that frequently change.
