Is it possible to take songs off of your ipod and put it them on itunes

by accident i permanately deleted all my songs off my computer and cant get them back ,,,trust me i tried everything. im wondering is possible to take songs from your ipod and put them on your itunees library?

You can't sync or drag your music back directly from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there is a manual method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes
There's a command in iTunes 7 under File, "Transfer Purchases from iPod" you can check out. A paragraph on it has also been added to this article: How to use your iPod to move your music to a new computer
If you prefer something more automated then there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the music files and playlists from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. As iTunes 7 is just out some of these may not work with it yet though I haven't experienced any problems with the Mac software I use.

If your iPod is set to update automatically take care when connecting back to your computer and an empty iTunes. If it is set to automatically update you will get a message that your iPod is linked to a different library and asking if you want to link to this one and replace all your songs etc, press *No* (or "Cancel" if you are using iTunes 7). Pressing "Yes" (or Erase and Sync in iTunes 7) will irretrievably remove all songs from your iPod. Your iPod should appear in the iTunes source list from where you can change the update setting to manual and use your iPod without the risk of accidentally erasing it. In iTunes 7 Check the "manually manage music and videos" box in Summary then press the Apply button. Don't uncheck Sync Music it will be unchecked by default when you choose the manual setting: Managing Your Songs Manually
You can also use a keyboard command to prevent your iPod auto-syncing with iTunes. While connecting the iPod to the computer on Windows hold down the Shift + Ctrl keys (on a Mac hold down the Option and Command (⌥ and ⌘) keys). This will stop the iPod from auto-syncing with iTunes and the iPod will appear in the source list. Wait until you are sure the iPod has mounted, and that it will not auto sync and then you can let the keys go. This may take between 20 to 30 seconds depending on your computer. Then check the "Manually manage songs" box.
Whichever of these retrieval methods you choose, keep your iPod in manual mode until you have reloaded your iTunes and you are happy with your playlists etc then it will be safe to return it auto-sync again. I would also advise that you get yourself an external hard drive and back your stuff up in case you have problems again. External drives are comparatively inexpensive these days and you can get loads of storage for quite a small outlay.

  • Can i take music off of my ipod and put it in itunes using icloud?

My computer crashed in august. My itunes recovery disks failed and so did my attempt to recover music from my computer. Now all my music is on my ipod and I would like a way to take that music and put it in itunes on my new pc. Does anyone know if icloud can help me with this problem?

You can re-download songs you have already purchsed from iTunes one-by-one if you need to. There is no way to mass-download your entire library though, and this only applies to songs purchased through iTunes. There is no way to upload all of your music to iCloud. The iTunes Match service for $25 per year allows you to store your music in the cloud, but for you I think it's already too late. I don't think you can send all your music to iTunes Match directly from your iPod.
I would recommend you find an iPod manager program you can use to copy the music off the iPod directly. A quick Google search should reveal plenty of options.

  • ITunes won't take songs OFF of the iPod (iTunes 7, vid)

    Hello!
Well, I"m loving the new stuff - mostly. However, I've noticed the "Purchased music transfer" is keeping around 400 MB of music on the iPod, after I've deleted it from the iTunes library.
Why would I delete 400 mb of songs (around 100) that I 'bought'? They were freebies and promotions over several months. I dropped them on an external drive and removed them from iTunes. When I sync either of my iPods (9-month old Vid/2 year old clickwheel), it prompts "There is purchased music on this iPod that is not in your iTunes library. Would you like to transfer?" No, I would not, I say. You see, I have only 900 MB free on my clickwheel, and I'd like to use those extra 400 MB for transfering files between my Macs (via FW Disk Mode).
In any case, I'm essentially looking for a way to restore the default iTunes 6-style iPod Syncing - that is, exactly the same on the iPod that it is on the iTunes library.
    Tips?

  • Is there a way to transfer all songs off of an ipod and not just purchases?

I recently purchased an MSI wind netbook, with windows xp home. I was wondering if there is a way to import all songs into the itunes library? I have all of my songs on a gateway solo, but I screwed that computer up and have never gotten around to fixing it. I enabled disk mode on the ipod, and accessed the hidden files on the ipod. I can get to all of my songs, but their names are all four capitol letters. I could copy them all to a new folder and then import them, but this would be only as a last resort as I dont have the patience to spend 5 hours organizing the songs. Please help!

You can try these Apple directions

Or buy a 3rd-party ipod manager such as CopyTrans.

Drag them from one hard drive then drop them onto the other. Then you must import them into iTunes in order to sync them to your iPad.

  • How do I get music off an old iPod and put it on a new iPhone?

I have an older model iPod that was synced to my computer back in 2007. Obviously that computer is LONG gone. What I'd like to do now is transfer all the music off the iPod to my new iPhone but I can't figure out how. I downloaded iTunes and plugged in my iPod and iPhone but it hasn't seemed to help.
    How do I do this?

Once the music from the old iPod is back in iTunes, configure to sync to your iPhone.

  • Had my iTunes library on an old laptop that crashed. Can I get my library off my ipod and put onto my new itunes?

I had my iTunes library on a laptop that crashed. I got a new laptop and downloaded iTunes onto it. I still have my old iPod that had my entire old iTunes library on it but the only music I was able to get to sync onto the new iTunes was purchased tunes. I nolonger have the cd's that I had put onto iTunes. Is there any way I can move my music from my old iPod onto my new iTunes? I had originally had plans to purchase a new iPod but now, I don't want to because of my library being on my old one.

If all of your music was from the iTunes Store and was all still on the iTunes Store, this would be trivial. However, you say that much of your music was ripped from CDs and you no longer have those CDs. (Sounds fishy... but whatever.) Therefore, you need to copy the media from your iPod to your computer. iTunes does not offer this function.
Take a look at Senuti, which is a popular third-party application which will enable you to do this easily. There are many alternatives, some of which work just as well and are even free. But Senuti is very popular:

  • I had dowloaded all of my itunes library to my iphone from my home computer/my computer crashed and all of the music that was on my itunes is only on my iphone now. How do I take that music from my iphone and put it onto my itunes on my new computer?

I had downloaded all of my itunes library to my iphone from my home computer, My home computer crashed and all my itunes library was lost but it is still on my iphone. Is there a way that I can take all the music on my iphone that is all of my music from my itunes from my old computer and download it to my new computer that I have another itunes on? I tried to sync the music on my iphone to my itunes and I could not figure out a way to sync the music without erasing all of the music on my iphone. Does anyone have any suggestions?

For music that you've purchased from Apple that are on your iPhone you should be able to copy to your computer's iTunes via File > Transfer Purchases. Also if you are in the US then you should be able to re-download past music purchases for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519
For your own music that you've copied, then if you haven't got a backup on, for example, external drives or CDs/DVDs then you could see if any of the utilities mentioned in this old post still exist and work

  • Please help me.. How do i take songs off my ipod??

ok so i deleted the songs off of my itunes library but theyre still on my ipod. how do i get them off?

Your iPod and iTunes library is two different things. Doing something to your iTunes library wont affect your iPod.
To remove the songs from your iPod, do the following:
    1. Open your iTunes and connect your iPod.
    2. After your iPod shows up on the pane ( left side ), click on Songs.
    3. All of the songs currently on your iPod should be listed there. ( Including Videos, Etc if applicable )
    4. Click on ONE song, then do CTRL + A ( Windows ) or Apple + A ( Apple ).
    5. Press Delete.
    6. A prompt window should show up asking you if you want to remove these songs from your iPod. Click Yes.
Hope this helps. If you have any other questions/comments please post them.

For iTunes purchases, you can transfer them back to iTunes by plugging  your iPod into her iTunes library and choosing File -> Transfer Purchases.
