Is it possible to transfer camera profiles to other models?

I have a couple of profiles I have written for a D2x simulating other cameras. I now have a D700 and figure it would be an easier starting point to transfer the D2x profile to the D700 & start there ,instead of going to square 1. Is this possible?  I thought maybe Process a D2x file with the chosen profile , then apply to a D700 file open in ACR at the same time , but then how do I save the profile to that camera? Thanks for any help.

I have only experimented a little bit with the profile creator, so don't take this as an expert answer.  It seems to me that the profiles are saved with an identifier linking them to the appropriate camera model.  Apparently what you would have to do is find a way to edit that profile and modify that identifier to point it to a different model.

  • Is it possible to embed camera profiles in DNGs?

I convert my Canon 60D CR2s to DNG via the DNG converter, but also use Camera RAW in Photoshop CS5, which has lens profile support, and sometimes PTLens via a plugin in Aperture to avoid starting up Photoshop.
Is it possible to embed camera profiles into a DNG, either with Adobe software, or other 3rd part software, so that Aperture can read it? Aperture uses the system Raw support, and since it does support embedded lens profiles, such as from some Micro 4/3rd cameras, which gives Aperture rudimentary support for them.
So, is there any way to embed lens profiles into my converted DNGs with any available software? I'm OK with command line utilities, so if there is a techy way, I can devise a script (hopefully) to add it automatically. I do have PTLens, which has a lens profile database (though perhaps encrypted), and I think Hugin supports the LensFun database as well.

  • Using colorchecker for camera profile

Created photo then used file menue, export preset, xrite.  It worked but I never got a change to select a name.  It came up as "profile". What am I missing.  Found the profiles but my camera  Cannon Rebel 4ti is not listed.  Is there an easy way to change or delete these profiles?

This may help. Don't forget to also calibrate your WB with the new profile using the gray patch next to the 100% white patch. I save this as a new Develop preset with only 'White Balance' and 'Calibration' (Camera DNG profile) checked. I found this necessary as the WB was different when using the LR WB presets.
Be careful when renaming camera profiles. Any images already using the profile will revert back to 'Adobe Standard' since it no longer sees the profile with the "old name." Try to use something descriptive like '600D CCPP Sunny.' This will help identify them if you decide to use the Adobe DNG Profile Editor for creating or modifying camera profiles.

  • Converting LUTs to Camera Profiles in the DNG Profile Editor

    Hi,
I've just started using the DNG Profile Editor, and can't seem to get the process right.
I have some film LUTs that I'd like to convert to camera profiles for my 5D Mk II.
Here's how I'm trying to do it, maybe someone can help me figure out what I'm doing wrong.
This is what I tried first:
    1. Take a Color Chart into Photoshop, apply the LUT via Color Lookup adjustment layer.
    2. Save out as 16bit TIFF
    3. Open as Camera Raw, then save out as DNG
    4. Open the adjusted color chart into DNG Profile Editor, run it through the color chart section to create a recipe of color adjustments.
    5. Export out as Camera Profile
But when I open up a 5D image in Lightroom, the profile doesn't show up in the list, so I realised maybe it needs to be saved specifically as a 5D profile, but I can't figure out how.
    If I:
    1. Do steps 1-4 as above
    2. Open a 5D DNG file so that I can set a 5D profile as the base profile
    3. Load the recipe
The color adjustments appear on the color wheel, but nothing happens to the 5D image, no colour change at all.
Exporting it (which does say 'Export as 5D profile') does then give me a profile that shows up in Lightroom, but it doesn't do anything to the image...
What's the correct way of doing this?
    Thanks!
    S

I don’t know claim to know anything about the internals of DNG Camera Profiles, but I’m pretty sure you cannot take a RGB-file (TIF/JPG) DNG and make a raw-file DNG Profile for use with your camera raws, which sounds like what you’re trying to do.
Despite looking like it might work in DNGPE, starting with an RGB-file recipe (rather than a RAW-file recipe) will only lock the specific colors on the color wheel, rather than create a raw-capable camera profile.

  • If you have a video in camera roll on the ipod touch is it only videos taken with the actual ipod or is it possible to transfer videos from your computer to the camera roll?

If you have a video in camera roll on the ipod touch is it only videos taken with the actual ipod or is it possible to transfer videos from your computer to the camera roll? The ipod touch was bought in feb. 2011

You can transfer videos from your computer to the iPod Touch, but not to the Camera Roll.
The Camera Roll is for temporary storage only - for photos/videos captured by the iPod Touch and for photos saved from a received email or from a website. Photos/videos in the Camera Roll can and should be imported by your computer as with any other digital camera.

Is possible to transfer photos from a macbook pro to an iphone 5 without itunes or an internet connection? I'm a pro photographer and I need to transfer photos from my camera, edit them, copy photos to my iphone and send via 4G network to an editor. • Camera Profiles and PS Elements

I'm a happy camper with LightRoom and the new profiles :-)
A friend of mine have just bought a Nikon D60 and PSE. He is not ready
start using a RAW convert yet but I'm sure he want to do that later. That's way I advice him to shoot RAW from the start so he can edit this picture later when he is ready.
Can he use the new camera profiles with PSE? Is it possible to choose lets say Camera Standard as a default when he open raw pictures?

Excellent Thomas. How do you select another profile then Adobe Standard in PSE?
Ramõn: Even if my friend have less option in PSE I feel it's better to start shooting raw. Then he later can buy LR or PS CS and reedit pictures taken to day.

The profiles need to be deleted manualy. X-rite provide the following info as to where they can be found http://xritephoto.com/ph_product_overview.aspx?ID=1257&Action=Support&SupportID=5282 Also, note the reference to the DNG ProfileManager tool; it might be worth downloading a copy.

  • Histogram inconsistencies with Camera profiles - Camera Raw

    Hi,
I've been going nuts with this issue for a year now since Adobe released the camera profiles for Camera Raw. Something tells me this shouldn't be happening.
Well exposed pictures taken with the D300 show an inconsistent histogram in camera raw when using the Adobe camera profiles for the D300.
This is a shame because I prefer the colour rendering of the camera profiles to that of the adobe standard profile.
    This is the problem:
With the D300 I get a correct histogram in Camera Raw only if I choose the ACR 4.4 or the Adobe Standard profile. By correct I mean with black and white points filled to the edge of the histogram.
If I choose the camera neutral, standard, portrait or vivid suddenly there's an empty area in the histogram's blacks. Effectively the black point has been shifted quite a bit and I need to push up the slider for blacks up to 30 or so to get the black point back to the right place. While with Adobe standard the blacks are correct at 0 or so. Check out the pics here below.
Is this normal behaviour, or is there something wrong in my settings?

Nice pic of brain Bill. Still, I would   take it without any harsh light and rather use longer exposure with  tripod. You can see some sort of light source in left bottom part of  brain. I assume it was a flash gun or above by lamp. Then you may get  much better result ;-)
Thanks. The shot was taken using the Nikon R1C1 closeup flash unit using the diffusers to help eliminate glare. With such specular sources, one must adjust the light sources carefully to avoid glare, but the only sure way to eliminate the glare is to use crossed polarizing filters. Still, the subject is short scale and one must set the white and black points.
Now, to discuss your posted shots. If anything, your posts confirm my initial assertion, since you are correcting post processing and not by changing exposure in the camera. The corrected images are from the same raw expsosures with postprocessing. By the way, if you post your screen shots as PNG, you will eliminate the artifacts around the text.
I put some links of  images to explain my point since we still talk about something else.  (cannot insert pics via adobe).
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/cairngorn.jpg
Brilliant example of screwed up "I have  been there" photography. Exposed not very well and at worst light  possible. Must go there once again and fix my incompetence.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/cairngorn2.jpg
Cairngorn is short scale because of atmospheric haze. There is no way to correct that with in camera exposure, but you could have exposed more to the right. Nonetheless, you have captured the whole dynamic range of the scene and exposing to the right would only improve the signal:noise. You had to use the exposure and black slider to set the white and black points, which only confirms what I said in my previious posts.
somehow "fixed" previous image. just for  fun and learn PS CS4.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad.jpg
overexposed image at first glance by  untrained eye.
Hrad is a high dynamic range scene with blown highlights. Your use of the exposure control to bring down the highlights darkens the rest of the image to an undesirable degree. It would have been better to use recovery to tame the highlights. A better approach might be to deveolp for the highlights and shadows separtely and merge the results as shown below. Again the correction is in postprocessing. There would be no way to do that with a camera exposure. The use of +1EV in ACR in HRAD3 only worsens the highlight clipping.
    http://imagingpro.wordpress.com/2008/12/03/expanding-the-dynamic-range-of-a-single-raw-fil e/
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad2.jpg
same image with 1EV extra without of any  detail loss. miracle of digital sensors.
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/hrad3.jpg
final image. it is just for web, so no  bother about burned sky...
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/tunka.jpg
again, overexposed image at first glance  by  untrained eye. we don't care about clipped shell in the left middle  of image. it is not main interest of pic...
    http://hajes.org/img/acr/tunka2.jpg
..and we again get 0.50EV extra which  corrects clipping.
I don't see any evidence of overexposure. The highlights are well short of clipping and the shot is grossly underexposed--not exposed sufficiently to the right. Nonetheless, the full dynamic range of the short scale scene has been captured and the shadows are well above clipping.
In case some will wonder  about weird setting of ACR. It is just for web and I still don't know  all tricks of PS. Furthermore, I prefer to spend time in nature rather  than in front of computer.
The settings of ACR are indeed wierd. Thomas Knoll recommends setting the highlights with the expsoure slider and the midtones with brightness. An alternative way of doing this, introduced with Lightroom, would be to set the midtones with exposure and control the highlights with recovery. A black point setting would likely be required as well. Again, no way to do that with an in camera expsoure, validating my previous assertion.

  • Camera profiles missing

I have CS3 and have been using camera raw 4.6 for awhile. I recently became aware of the fact that I have no camera profiles----that folder is empty and the drop down menu in camera raw just has ACR 4.6. I have a Canon 50D camera.  When I downloaded the update for ACR4.6 there was only one file not a camera profile.exe.

Since upgrading to Win 7 and uninstalling CS2 my custom profiles do not appear in camera raw.  Checking in the various possible locations they exist as *.dcpr files.   Are these different from *.dcp files ? or does the "r" just signify they are not Adobe standard issue ?  I could of course set to and recreare the profiles but having done all that and seeing files would prefer 5 minutes work to an hour or two (by the time I read the instructions - maybe a week or two if I want sunshine for a double profile).   By the way I deleted CS2 as I had become confident CS5 was working well - may have removed a support file of some sort ?

  • Camera Profile Re-Installation LR 4

I have upgraded to LR4, but none of my camera profiles show up. So, I tried to manually transfer the relevant folders and files to reside as subfolders under Library-App Support-->Camera Raw 7.  However, this did not work.
I would appreciate it very much if someone could tell me how to properly re-install the profiles.  I use several different cameras, so I have an extensive list of Adobe and custom profiles.
    Thanks,

    I have SOLVED THE PROBLEM!!
It had nothing to do with Lightroom.  The problem was that, this week I installed the Photoshop CS6 update and had not pointed to the preset folder from CS5 in the CS6 preferences.  Once I did this, all my plug-in and presets appeared in CS6 and, then, when I next opened Lightroom, the presets were available in Lightroom as well.
Thanks Ian and jim01403 for trying to help,
    Ina
