Is it possible to transfer emac HD info to a later mac desktop or laptop?

I want to take my internal HDD from my emac and transfer the info off that to a later mac desktop or laptop.
Is that possible?
I have the internal HDD plus I have all its info backed up on a 400 Firewire / USB external HD.
My OS X is 10.5.8 and I have the original 10.3.5 discs as well as the Leopard 10.5.1 disc.
I would like to retain my present OS as I don't like the later Operating Systems.
Is that even possible?
I have no idea how it would work so I'd be grateful for any help.

10.6 is ever so much nicer than 10.5. I stuck at 10.6 on my Intel iMac because I thought I needed Rosetta to run an older version of Creative Suite. When I decided to leave CS on an older G4 Mac, that reason to keep 10.6 faded.
Then the family bought two new Macs that came with Mtn Lion 10.8. Although there are a few things I find a little to "new" or "socially-networked" (i'm not) they are minor enough to make me seriously consider moving my computer there also. And I'm about as picky as they come.
If you have old software that requires a PowerPC Mac, you should keep the old eMac in service if possible
PS: I think Allan Eckert meant to type "cannot boot" instead of "can boot."

  • How can I transfer all my info from my old mac to a new one?

how can I transfer all my info from my old macbook to my mac mini?
My Mac mini chash about one month ago and I got it back from apple, I didnt have a time michine back up for this one but in my old mac I have almost all my files, so I want to transfer all the data to the Mac mini with no problem

You can use migration assitant which is located in the Utility Folder under Applications. The compters can be connected via ethernet, fire wire, or wifi. My recommendation is not to use wifi.
You run migration assistant on both machines and you can choose to transfer everything or just data.
Another way is to use migration assistant to restore from a time machine backup.

  • Is it possible to transfer a completed iPhoto book from one Mac to another, keeping the entire book structure intact?

I recently went on vacation and decided to use some of the free time to create some books of family photos. I transfered the entire iPhoto library of pictures from my my iMac to a MacBook which had never before been used for photos. The library transferred perfectly with all photos, albums, calendars, books, etc. intact. (Thank you, AirDrop!)
I successfully created and ordered 3 different books of photos on the MacBook. Now I want to transfer just those 3 completed books back to the iMac for archiving. Can I use the "Export" command to do this? If so, should I use JPEG, TIFF, etc?
I realize I could simply transfer the entire library file back from the MacBook back to the iMac, but I'd prefer not to take up all that disc space by having two photo libraries on my hard drive (and I'm chicken to delete the original iMac library).
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Bob Baker

Yes you can move the book but not by exporting
The book is just entries in the iPhoto database so the only way to transfer it is ot transfer the entire library it is in - you can make a "mini" library containing only one book to make the transfer easier - see Old Toad's tutorial #9 - http://oldtoadstutorials.net/No._9.html
You also can save a PDF of the book and transfer that but you can not edit pr process it

  • How do I transfer contacts from a macbook to a mac desktop?

I need to zap my macbook to give to my husband but before I do that I need to transfer all my contacts, all my safari favorits and all my word processing documents. Is there an easy way to do this in 1, 2 or 3 batches instead of manually. Thank you!

    TimeMachine
Clone with Disk Utility - the entire hard drive partition
you can then use those to import your files to a new computer
iCloud would manage your email and contacts between computers and devices too.

  • Can I transfer my Iphone info to my new computer?

Hi folks! Recently i bought Windows 7 for my laptop and i completely forgot to do a back up of my itunes library, so i have nothing in there right now. I still have everything in my iphone but i would like to know if i can transfer all my info from the iphone to the new computer (itunes)? in order to keep all my info (songs, pics, ringtones, videos and movies). If anyone knows how to do it or if its possible please let me know.
    Thanks in advance!

First, Authorize the new computer in the iTunes store (in iTunes, Store/Authorize Computer).
It depends on the info. Purchased tracks and apps must be transferred using File/Transfer purchases, as already stated. Ripped tracks or tracks from other sources cannot be recovered this way. There are 3rd party tools that can do this; use Google.
Photos cannot be recovered without using a 3rd party tool (use Google to find one), and even after recovered will not have the original resolution.
Contacts and Calendar can be recovered. First make sure there is at least one entry in the Calendar and Contact lists on the PC. Then sync; you will be asked if you want to merge. Say Yes.
Application data on the iPhone will be backed up the first time you sync, but be sure to Transfer Purchases first.

I just bought a slightly newer G4 and I want to find out if it is possible to transfer my old OS 10.2.8 system from one computer to the other so I can run my old ProTools system without a hitch. I would rather not buy the old 10.2.8 system as it is expensive. Thanks!

Need to know which newer one, some cannot run 10.2.x.
One solution might be to clone the 10.2.8 Drive to another drive, then Install a later OS on it Preserving Users & Settings.
Best way to get an exact bootable copy of your old drive to the new one is with Carbon Copy Cloner...
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • Possible to save texts & calendar info???

I currently have a droid maxx that I've had for over a year. I still have my old droid cell that I was using before my current one. I still have my calendars and text messages on my old cell that I do not want to lose. I developed health problems that have effected my memory & the thought of losing so much of my info that is important to me, is upsetting. My sister is having financial trouble and would like to use my old phone. I can't give it to her until I miss my info off of it. Verizon is telling me that it is not possible! Any advice or info anyone can help me when?!!!! Please!! I have tooooo much info to actually manually transfer it! There are over three years of input's and logs! Help!!

There are several applications in the Play Store to backup and transfer SMS from one phone to another. The calendar might be trickier, but there should be something.
Is Motorola Migrate available on your phone? You might be able to use that application to transfer everything.

    Hi,
So my understanding is tags & captions are stored in the photo file (or meta data).  So moving the photos will take this info.  However if you want to keep them all in PSE as is and just change their location then best way is to move them from within PSE itself.  This will ensure everything that needs to moves (with the file) or stays (in the PSE database) as needed.

There is a difference : captions are written to files automatically, but you have to use the menu File/Write metadata to files to write the tags, categories, ratings, notes to the file themselves. Anyway you'll lose version sets, stacks, albums and projects which are only kept in the database.
I'm using PSE11 and can't remember exact PSE 9 method but you should be able to find a folders view on the left and then move the actual folder (drag drop) to the drive/folder you want.  I would suggest you do in a few chunks to make it easier.
Yes, drag and drop in the Folders view. Good advice to do it in a few chunks.
It should be that simple.  Don't move the folders then reimport.  Yes it will still keep tags, etc but you are bound to lose much other info which is stored in the database (face recon, etc).
    Very good advice
NB: You catalogue may run noticeably slower with photos on external drive.  I would suggest USB3 if you can.
It's worth trying. For me, even with USB2, I don't really notice a slower workflow.
I often store not only the media files on the external HD, but also the catalog. That may run still a bit slower, but it's quite manageable. The big advantage is that you can share both your image files and catalogs by plugging the EHD alternatively in two computers. The backup / restore method I linked to in the other post stores the catalog on the EHD by default, because you restore to 'custom location'. Remember you can move catalogs via the Catalog Manager.
