Is it possible to transfer i-tunes using 4 gig pen drive?

I was following directions to back up my itunes library on an external hard drive and I thought I could just transfer my songs using a pen drive to a new computer. Before I actually try it, is this feasible or am I just making it hard on myself?

If your library will fit in 4GB, sure, this will work. For instructions, see these:

  • Can you boot a Mac Pro using a USB Pen Drive?

    Hello.
Can you boot a Mac Pro using a USB Pen Drive? OS=Windows or Linux or BSD or MacOS... I know it is bios specific on a PC if the option is available. If this is possible, does anyone have a link to instructions?
    Thanks,
    Scott

Not to get in to an argument over semantics here, but by saying "Windows should boot if you have installed the requisite Boot Camp drivers," you are implying "that the Boot Camp drivers [are] needed for Windows to boot." I was just clarifying your post so people didn't get confused.
As for booting a Mac Pro off a USB flash drive, if you have been successful in doing so, can you share with me your method? I've tried booting of an OCZ Rally2 4GB flash drive and it's never worked on my Mac Pro. It doesn't show up when I hold option down and if I try to boot through rEFIt, I get an error about my Mac's firmware not supporting USB booting (I have the latest firmware installed, too). I've tried GPT and MBR partitions, both to no avail. Booting off USB hard disk drives is no problem though. And I can boot off this flash drive on a Core Duo iMac.
    Any ideas?

  • Multi Cam-2 different cams, 1 audio: Use many gigs on drive?

    Hi
I did a number of interviews using 2 cameras (DSLR & HDV) and the Zoom H4n.
For each interview I'm thinking I'll create multi cam 'clips' from the 2  cams and 1 separate audio clip.
What happens? Will this involve much transcoding of the video? Will it use many gigs on the drive?
If so, would synchronizing the clips be a better way to go, and is there a method to switch between cameras that way?
Btw, I made my first and there seems to be beau-coup activity going on on my MBP and the drive. Hence these questions.
    best
    elmer

    Thanks for the reply!
Yes, all my media are on an external drive. I see it created optimized media of the dslr clip. It appears optimizing of the 29-minute clip created a file of around 40gigs. I don't think I can use multi-cam on this project unless I proxy it.
How are optimized or proxy files named or designated so as to be different than regular files?
Any way to trash the optimized file? Or proxy files if so desired? Are proxy files 1/2 or 1/8 of original file?
Just curiously, can regular and proxy material coexist in the same project?

  • GPO: CD and DVD: Deny write access prevents user from using their USB Pen drive, but other users or ok

My Users have secure pen drives that launch a CDROM partition with a secure logon app that decrypts the main USB mass storage element of the pen drive on successful logon. The problem I have is that users who install the usb pen drive cannot then
initialize the CDROM launcher app to input their password to access the mass storage element of the pen drive making it useless.
However, any other user that has the same type of pen drive who then plugs it in to the endpoint that already has the drivers installed is able to access their own pen drive or the other users pen drive (providing the know the password).
So I've isolated the problem being down to the presence of the GPO setting stated above on the Removable Storage Access Policy, and by not having this policy in place when a user installs the pen drive they have no issues, but I can't find a way to clean
up a user who is already broken even if I remove the GPO from that user, delete their local profile so that they logon as a new user (no roaming or other data) and use a variety of utilities such as USBOblivion to clear out the registry and file system of
the USB device and installation. When the original user logs back on and then installs the usb pen drive again they have the same issue, but no other users do. I have the same issue if I try this with an alternative user or admin as the first user after the
'clean up'. Everyone else can use the pen drive except the user that originally installed it when the GPO was in place.
If I move the user to a new endpoint or rebuild their endpoint then they have no problem being the installer of the usb pen drive and then using it since the GPO was removed, so what I need to know is what is it about the USB install and the GPO that
is tattooing in Windows somewhere and how do I remove it?

    Hi,
In my opinion, this is probably not Windows GPO problem. To confirm the suppose, you can follow the path below to check GPO settings if there is any change after the software installed.
    Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Removable Storage Access
    User Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\Removable Storage Access
These two policy manage system and current user Removable Storage access.
If there is no change with these policy, it would be better to contact the manufacture of the driver for further assistance.

  • I was wondering if it is possible to transfer movies on itunes to a usb drive?

If this is possible I would really like to know how to do it.

    hi,
If you Cmd-Click (right click) on the movie file in iTunes and select 'Show in Finder', Finder is opened at the location of the file.
Then, if you Option-Drag the file to your USB flash drive, it will be copird to the USB drive.
Note however, if the file has DRM protection on it from the iTunes store, you will not be able to play it on another computer/device that is not authorised to your iTunes account.

iTunes: How to move [or copy] your music to a new computer [or another drive] - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527
Quick answer if you let iTunes manage your music:  Copy the entire iTunes folder (and in doing so all its subfolders and files) intact to the other drive.  Start iTunes with the option (shift on Windows) key held down and guide it to the new location of the library.

  • Is it possible to install Tiger using an external DVD drive?

I have one the of the first iMacs and at the time I thought I didn't need a DVD Player. However, now I was thinking of buying an external DVD player/burner. Is it possible to upgrade to Tiger using the external DVD drive since I don't have an internal one?

    Hi Celticart,
    Welcome to the discussions.
I have an old AGP PowerMac G4 to which I have hooked an external Firewire DVD Drive. I have installed Tiger without any problems, using this drive. I see no reason why it couldn't be done on an iMac as well, (provided it has Firewire).
I don't think you could get it to work using an external drive hooked up via USB.
    Cheers!

  • Using an external hard drive for music

Hi. I'm quite sure the answer to this question is obvious--I just don't know a lot about external hard drives.
I have a MBP, but I'm running low on memory. The majority is being used on my huge music collection. If I were to purchase an external hard drive and put all my music files on it, would I still be able to access them in the same way?
In other words, as long as the external hard drive is hooked up to my computer, will I be able to play them in iTunes?
I just want to remove all the music from my computer's hard drive, and place them on an external hard drive. But, I'm not quite sure if this is possible.
    Thanks!

I use an external firewire drive to store my iTunes library on. One thing to be aware of...
You need to go into your iTunes preferences, then to "Advanced", then select the location where you want to store your iTunes Music folder. In my case it is in a folder titled "Music" on my external firewire drive. The iTunes "Library" file is stored on your internal hard drive.
The thing that can cause you problems it that....if you forget to turn on the external drive before you boot up your Mac, the iTunes library file will look for your music folder and won't be able to find it. So a new iTunes Music folder will be created on your internal hard drive, with nothing in it. You'll see all of your songs listed in your iTunes program...but if you try to double click on any of the songs to play them, you'll get an exclamation mark saying "cannot find file".
If this happens, you need to delete the new iTunes Music folder on your internal drive (but not the iTunes Library file!), then quit iTunes, turn on the external drive, then relaunch iTunes....and it will find the original music folder.
It's a hassle that I have had to go though many times, I keep forgetting to turn on that drive before launching iTunes.
Oh, one other thing....about the way you worded your post. You aren't running short on "memory", you are running short on "storage"....they are two different things. Hard drives are storage, RAM chips are "memory" that run your programs.

  • Installing Oracle Applications 11i using an external hard drive

    Hi All,
I have a laptop with 60 gigs in it. As per the quick install CD in the Oracle Apps 11i pack I need to have at least 80 gigs space. So I wanted to know if it is possible to install Oracle Apps using a external hard drive and the Quick Install option. If anyone has done this please share it with me.
    thanks
    cheers

    Hi Kar,
Thanks for the info. I was waiting for confirmation on this before I went out and bought an external hard drive. My laptop runs a Windows XP Home edition OS and it is the only OS on the machine.
I scoured the market for external hard drives and it turns out that there is a wealth of information out there. Could you give me some pointers on which one of these you would recommend.
Also once the external hard drive is in place do I need to follow a different installation process or I can use Quick Install as is. If I remember correctly the info given in Quick Install stated that in Windows it would need some amount of space on my Temp folder which is why I needed extra space as my hard drive was only 60 gigs.
Now with this external hard drive will it automatically detect this and then try and load the files in this new space or will Quick Install still try to use the space in the Temp folder.
Really appreciate your help on this one.
    thanks
    cheers

  • Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Is it possible to transfer music between iPhones and iPods with out using iTunes

Nope.  Both require iTunes on a computer to sync music from.
Unless the iPod is an iPod Touch and the music was bought from iTunes.  In which case the Touch can simply go to the iTunes App, under Purchased  and download the purchased songs for free.

  • Is there a way to make a video call from my iPhone 4 to a non apple phone? Also is it possible to transfer pics using bluetooth from iPhone to other company mobiles? Its a great phone but sometimes I feel struck inside it.

You'd need an app like Skype to video call with other phones.
Data transfer is not supported via bluetooth and iphone to iphone is not supported at all.

I just bought a slightly newer G4 and I want to find out if it is possible to transfer my old OS 10.2.8 system from one computer to the other so I can run my old ProTools system without a hitch. I would rather not buy the old 10.2.8 system as it is expensive. Thanks!

Need to know which newer one, some cannot run 10.2.x.
One solution might be to clone the 10.2.8 Drive to another drive, then Install a later OS on it Preserving Users & Settings.
Best way to get an exact bootable copy of your old drive to the new one is with Carbon Copy Cloner...
    http://www.bombich.com/software/ccc.html
Relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.
