Is it possible to transfer song ratings from an ipod to a computer's itunes

Is this possible? I rate my songs when I'm listening to them and tend to listen to songs through my ipod rather than through itunes and was wondering if I can transfer the ratings from my ipod to my computer. Perhaps I'm missing somthing, but its really rediculous that this isn't a clear function that you can carry out.

Welcome to Apple Discussions. If you configure
iTunes to update your iPod automatically, any rating
changes you make to songs on your iPod will be synced
to iTunes the next time you connect your iPod.
I'd just like to make sure of something before I enable automatic updating. I have made all of my song ratings on my ipod, not my ITunes library. I'm asked to confirm that I want to replace all existing songs/playlists on my ipod with the ITunes library. Won't that wipe out all the existing song ratings currently in the ipod?

This is so I can delete music from my ipod knowing its rated on my i-tunes so I can then see later if I want to re-add it based on its rating
    Thanks

    Unfortunately there is not.

Not without the help of third party software such as this one:

Been using your Syncstats, working magically.
However though, when I try to sync the stats of all songs at once - if one song poses a problem - everything stops.
Is there a way around this?
Rather than: click "no" (in order to manually sync songs one by one)??
By the way - this pops up:
    Line: 136. Char:53
    A0040203
Lines 136 & 137 deal with updating the Last Played and Last Skipped values. I initially suspected the error could be being caused by null values in one of the fields which I didn't encounter in testing, however the same values are accessed previously in lines 129 & 131. Ideally I'd work out exactly what causes the error so I can test for the problem issue rather than throw the error, handle those circumstances in the most sensible way given the aim of the script, and continue to process non-error causing values as is.
The quick alternative is to ignore the error by placing an On Error Resume Next statement before the possibly probablematic code, and an On Error Goto 0 statement after it to resume normal error handling. I.e.
    On Error Resume Next
    {Ignore errors in this block}
    On Error Goto 0
Not always a good idea but in this case I suspect "Do nothing" would be the appropiate action in those cases that currently cause an error so I've made that change and posted up the new build of SyncStats. Let me know how you get on.

Not directly, no. Where did the music originate?

  • Is it possible to transfer a book from my ipod wasn't purchased from itunes to my computer?

I have a book on my ipod that's taking up a lot of space, but I'd like to keep it. I've tried connecting the ipod touch to my computer opening itunes and clicking transfer purchases and that doesn't work because it wasn't purchased in itunes.  I've also closed itunes then found the ipod touch under my computer, clicked on it, and tried to find the content.  The only thing that appears is my pictures.  Is there another way to transfer this book or do I just lose it.  I've found that I can't transfer anything from my ipod to my computer unless it was purchased in itunes.  I can buy Amazon songs and things and transfer them to my ipod, but can't transfer anything back to my computer.  What am I doing wrong or can it just not be done?  Sometimes I wish I didn't own an apple product because they're so frustrating!

Yes, but we can't tell you how to do it according to clause 2.8.2 in the terms of use: https://discussions.apple.com/static/apple/tutorial/tou.html

If your iPod can be read by the computer, read on.
If you are using iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
For all other non purchased music (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it can be messy.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music and playlists etc from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
However, if your iPod can't be read by the computer (and you said it doesn't work anymore, then the answer is no.

  • How do I get video/songs/pics FROM my iPod TO my computer?

For example... I've got a video on my iPod that I purchased thru iTunes. After it downloaded to my videos folder, I synced it to my iPod. Then (accidentally) I deleted the file from my PC... in other words, it's only on my iPod. How do I copy it from my iPod back to my PC?
    THANKS! ~Jeremy

The second half of this file discusses moving files from an iPod to a computer:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300173
Videos are presumably in the "Video" rather than "iTunes" directory; you should be able to just navigate around in that directory for the file you want rather than replacing the entire directory as that article suggests (in which case you'd want to omit the "moving the directory to the desktop" steps, and so forth).

  • How do I fix broken song files in iTunes with songs transferred from my iPod to my computer?

Recently got a new computer but when I tried to transfer the files in My Music>iTunes to my new computer I realized that only about half the songs in my library have folders in the iTunes folder, even purchased songs (no idea why). I could download mp3s of every broken song and re-do it that way, but I would rather figure out a way to restore the files from my iPod and save a lot of time.
I enabled disk use on my iPod and dragged the folders from iPod_control>Music to a folder on my desktop but the songs are all assigned random four letter names. I don't know if iTunes will be able to detect the right file to restore each song if I just direct it to this folder (using the prompt when you try to play the song), not to mention that the random songs are broken up into 49 separate folders so I would just have to randomly guess which folder to direct it to (I have 1993 songs). If I drag all the files into iTunes will it just create doubles of each song? I don't care about play counts, I don't know if that's stored in the song file, but it's not a big deal for me to replace all the songs in iTunes with the files from my iPod as long as all the files work.

Thank you so much! I now know how to convert AIFF audio files to ACC files, and I can keep the original AIFF file! One other concern though -- how do I tell which is the bigger AIFF file and which is the new smaller ACC file? iTunes doesn't have an obvious place/window that tells me the audio file size. Is there a way to tell the two apart. It looks like it creates an identical file name, not even a "copy" extension or anything -- so it's impossible to tell them apart. Is there another secret here?

  • How can I transfer my music from my IPod onto another computer?

I have a new laptop and my dad has an itunes account which has all of the songs on it but I was wondering if I could transfer the songs from my IPod onto my new laptop on my account.

    - Transfer iTunes purchases by:

    - For other music you need a third-party program like those discussed here:

iTunes purchases are locked to the account that purchased them but you can copy them from iPod to computer.

  • Transfer various files from an iPod to your computer

Step 1. Download and install Syncios iPod Transfer on your computer.
Step 2. Launch SynciOS iPod Transfer and connect your iPod to computer.
Open SynciOS iPod Transfer and plug in your iPod to your PC’s USB port.
Step 3. Import & Export files from PC to iPod or iPod to PC.
Here, we will take music as example, click My Device on the top of the left-hand panel to enter iOS managment section. The left-hand panel lists all your file types of your device , unfold Media tab, highlight Music on the right panel, then you will find those options: Import, Export, Delete, New Playlist, which enables you transfer music between your iPod & PC freely and easily!

Are you associated with the developers of Syncois? I ask since there are many apps that do the same thing and you just started a discussion.
