Roamingnome, thanks for your response. Although I have been a Bell (Canada) customer for my WiFi signal for years, the 5c and its necessary mobility plan, is very recent. Some years ago, Bell supplied its own ‘router’ for my computer, and claimed that it was possible to get their WiFi signal only with the router they supplied. When I recently received the 5c, I wondered if the plan it requires, which is within the much wider, overall Bell zone, could be used somehow to get my Air online - some sort of tethering? - that allows me to give up the Air WiFi service and router all together, but still get the Air connected. Here in Canada, Bell Mobility and other Bell services are very separate. Any suggestions appreciated.

  • Is it possible to turn off my access to the exchange server?

I'm feuding with the ITS department at the moment. They claim they don't want to support my iPhone, they only want us to use the crappy Blackberries they gave everyone. I had to set up my own iPhone - Exchange connection, and it has all worked fine up to now, but about 3 hours ago my entire connection to the Exchange Server was killed. I get no email, no contacts, no calendar, nothing. My fellow iPhone users (3 in my office) aren't getting email either.
I suspect that the evil ITS administrator has turned off access to iPhones, but nobody believes me. Is that possible? Is there any way around it? I don't want to have to carry two phones.
The ITS administrator told my boss this morning (shortly before i got disconnected) that Microsoft might be "turning off" the access to iPhones from Exchange servers. That didn't make sense to me, because Apple is paying MS for the right to use Exchange, right? Also, I googled and couldn't find anything about that kind of an announcement. Has anyone else had issues today?

    gamecoug,
Administrators of an Exchange server can block access for ActiveSync devices server wide, account specific, or even device specific.
In addition using ActiveSync they can specify security policies for connected phones. The iPhone supports remote wipe as well.
    Hope this helps,
    Nathan C.

I have tried updating my Itunes and Ipad, both are now fully updated. My internet is working fine on any computer that is not apple... Please help, im pulling my hair out here.
    Many thanks

What do you see if you go to Settings > WiFi and touch the ">" next to your network name?
If you touch the ">" you will get the details of your network connection. Things like the type of IP address allocation (DHCP, Static, Bootp), assigned IP Address, Subnet Mask, Router address, DNS addresses, etc.
Please report what you see there.
Also please identify the make, model and type of router you have.
Do you know what kind of security you are using on your router? None, WEP, WPA, WPA2?
When you said, "I have tried changing some of my settings", what did you do?

  • How do I ignore a wifi network that keeps wanting me to log into it, without turning off wifi?

I work in a building with several networks. I don't log onto any of them, mostly because they are either locked or they are pay-as-you-go and I get by just fine on 3G.  My problem is one on particular is relentless, it's splash screen and request to logon pops up everytime my phone pushes for mail or messages or a webpage changes.  I could go and turn off wifi, but when I get home from work I often forget about the setting I made 10 hours earlier and end up spending the ev evening surfing on the slower 3G.
Is there a way I can have specific networks "ignored" without turning off wifi completely?
    Thanks!

Settings>WiFi>Tap the blue chevron next to the Network>Forget this Network.

Why can't I access the internet and e-mail on wifi in my house, but, I can if I turn wifi off?

    Hello srpeters5,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with Wi-Fi on your iPhone.  You have taken some really good steps to troubleshoot this issue already.  I found an article that includes a few additional steps you can try.  You can skip any steps you have already taken.

When my iphone connects to wifi, everything else in my house will not connect to the internet. They all show 3 to 4 bars on connection strength, but unable to access the internet.  The second I turn off the wifi on my iphone, everything in my house runs fine. What is going on?

Had a similar problem a number of years ago with a laptop my daughter had. The probelm turned out to be the router. What kind of router do you have? Have you checked for firmware updates, or at least tried re-booting it?

  • Is it possible to turn off the updates that make your iphone need to be activated again?

Is it possible to turn off the updates that make your iphone need to be activated again? Because you need wifi in order to activate and sometimes I don't have wifi so my iphone becomes unusable untill I get wifi again.

I'm sorry but it says 8.1.2 on my phone when I check for the info about the software.
The issue I have is that on random moments it asks me to activate my phone ( I think after an update or some kind ) but sometimes I have no access to wifi to activate it so I was wondering if I could make that stop?
I'm sorry for the strange explanation, english isn't my mothertongue

  • I have an ipad that only has wifi and I am unable to connect because all the networks are locked for access.   Is there anything that I can attached to my ipad that will make it possible for me to access the internet

I need help.  Just purchased an ipad with wifi service only.  Is there anything that I can get that will allow me to access the internet.  I keep getting network connections that have a lock which makes it unable to log on.  Picking up numerous with sites with the lock.  Help did I make a mistake in getting this ipad.  If so, can I trade it in for one that is more network friendly.

If you expect to use a WiFi only iPad it needs a wireless network. It is customary to have your own versus using someone else's.
Nothing is more network friendly than an iPad.
You couldn't possibly have expected to sponge off a service someone else is paying for?

  • Is it possible to turn off the passcode?

I’ve seen a couple postings that say go to Settings --> General --> Passcode Lock, but on my iPhone 4s I don’t see anywhere to turn it off at that point.  In the manual, there is no description of turning off the passcode – at least I didn’t find it.
Is it possible to turn off the passcode?

    row6 wrote:
no, once you get to Passcode Lock, there is no option to turn it off - certainly none visible to me.  Have you actually tried to do this?  Do you have an iphone 4s?
Here is a screen shot of what you get when you press "Passcode Lock".
You have to ENTER your passcode first, to access the part of the Settings that allows you to disable the passcode lock.
    Enter your passcode.
Then you can turn the passcode off.

  • Hi, is it possible to turn off wi-fi of my time capsule?

Hi, I read an article that wifi electro-magnetic emission may be dangerous for children's health. Therefore I would like to use wired connection and turn off the wireless feature of my time capsule. Please let me know if it is possible and how I can do it.
Still I would like to use the time capsule as a wired router and backup storage facility for my desctop.
One additional question - if it is not going to be possible to turn off the wi-fi, is there another alternative to turn off the time capsule reather than disconnecting it from the socket? Is there an alternative power cord with turn on/turn off switch? Any ideas?
    Regards,

Hi, I read an article that wifi electro-magnetic emission may be dangerous for children's health.
There will always be a silly article about anything... if you read it.
I can understand your concern, but Pastenague already pretty much summed up most of what I was going to say. BTW, I would not be surprised if that author is the kind of hypocrite who goes out in the sun all day, or hangs out in cigarette smoke filled rooms.
Electromagnetic waves are everywhere, man-made and environmental. After well over a decade of testing, it's never been proven ... all these 'scare claims' that tend to hit the media. I still remember what started it all, back when someone was diagnosed with cancer after shortly getting a cell phone, and he heard about someone else who had cancer and also had used a cellphone.
OMG... Therefore, cellphones MUST cause cancer, and the electromagentic waves are carcinogens!
They're still trying to prove that.
There are far more things to worry about health wise, than the EMFs.
BTW, in regards to that author, I have my own article to submit to them. And I can even back mine up with facts:
A study has shown that given a long-enough time-line, EVERYONE who drinks water in their life, eventually dies.
Another study has shown, that 100% of people who currently are diagnosed with cancer, have drank at least 1 cup of water in thier life-time.
Another alarming fact has been raised recently, that the harmful effects of water is not just restricted to humans. For example, a study of deceased adult cows at various farms, has shown that there was water-content in all their carcasses.
There is a strong lesson to be learned here. Stay way from water or any product bearing H2O at all costs!

Your modem dose not have access to the internet, maybe the modem's main broadband cable is disconnected.
You should contact your ISP for access to the internet,he will come to your house and configure the modem...

  • Automatically turn off wifi when plugged into LAN?

    What happens:
I go to a site and put my nice MacBook Pro down. I then plug into their wired network and then discover that I am accessing the wrong network. I look up and notice that the wifi is hooking into a nearby access point.
    What I Expected:
When I plug in a wired LAN, it should turn off wifi.
    Ciao!

is it THAT much of an inconvenience to just click on the wifi symbol in the menu bar and select "Turn Airport Off" ?
I performed extensive experiments and this can be accomplished in under 2 seconds, on average.
I didn't say it's a hardship, but it's something the computer should be able to do automatically. Following rules like that are something computers are good at. I'm not.
Taking the same argument, they could just have a drop down that lets you pick "better performance" or "better power savings" and you could click it your self when running off battery or not. But it makes much more sense to have the computer detect this situation and react accordingly.
Do you have a helpful suggestion?
    Ciao!

  • Why must I sometimes turn off WiFi to download or send email?

I have a Droid Razr Maxx, though I don't think it's an Android or even Verizon issue. The problem, which is intermittent, and happens for my friend also on an iPhone, is that sometimes I'm not able to download or send email when connected to a Wifi hot spot. If I turn off WiFi on the phone, it then works fine using the carrier's data plan. Has anyone else experienced this problem and/or know a solution for it?
    Thanks in advance!

Out of Office responses are best set up in the webmail account which you access using a browser.
    So check there first.
If you set it up in Thunderbird, then you would have had to leave Computer on and Thunderbird running connected to internet all the time.
You would have created a template email to use. This would be in the 'Templates' folder.
You would also have set up a Message Filter to respond to emails in address book using the Template email.
So check in Message filters for a filter that does this.
    Tools > Message filters
    or
Menu icon > Message filters > Message filters
