Is it possible to undo drop shadows....

...after you've finished an image? I did a collage of images of dogs (see attached), and each image has a drop shadow. Now I've come back to my project after a couple of days and I don't like the drop shadows. Is there a way to delete them from all the images?
I'm new to photo editing, as you can prolly tell, so I'm open to any suggestions for making this collage look like a pro did it. Well, OK, maybe not a pro, but how about an advanced user?

If each dog is on a separate layer with a drop shadow, you can select a layer and do Layer > Layer Style > Clear Layer Style.
Or you can do Layer > Layer Style > Hide All Effects, and later if you decide you want the shadows after all,  then  Layer > Layer Style > Show All Effects.

  • Drop Shadow possible within a paragraph style?

I have a table and on a certain row I have a style that requires a dropdown. I have made a paragraph style that has everything perfect but I can't find the drop shadow option there. Is it possible to include drop shadow effects as a style?

    I've found this frustrating too.
The way I get around it is as follows:
1: Create a Text Frame and type the text to be shadowed.
2: Select the Text Frame and choose Window > Effects.
3: Expand the Object list and select just the text in the list.
4: Click the fx dropdown and apply any effects you want to associate with the text.
5: Feel free to save this as an Object Style to use again.
Now the the part that will have old-school QuarkXpressers squirming...
6: Select the whole text frame, choose Edit > Cut.
7: ... and paste it into another text frame as an Anchored Object.
8: You can then create a Paragraph Style to control the position/placement of the Anchored object.
9: ... and even add some Text Wrap and offset to your Object Style.
I know it is a filthy workaround, but it is the only way I can find to achieve the required result.
Please, Adobe, can we have effect styles that can be applied as part of Paragraph Styles. I mean, there's a precedent : Character styles as part of Paragraph Styles, Table Styles containing Cell Styles that contain Paragraph Styles that could ostensibly contain Nested Styles.....

  • How can I add drop shadow to a vehicle that changes direction ?

    Hi,
    Flash CS5
Is it possible to add drop shadow to plan views of vehicles (vehicles are png images as MovieClips) such that as the vehicles change direction along roads (also png images) the shadow is always cast to north west ot the vehicle ? Buildings in the base png image have shadows but vehicles also need them so as to belong to the scene and not appear false.
    How is it done ?
Is there control over opacity and softness ?
If I were to have plan views of humans walking would the shadows follow the leg movements ?
    Envirographics

you can control the dropshadow's angle property dynamically.  and, yes the dropshadowfilter has an alpha and strength properties you can use.
use the help files to see all the properties you can use.

  • Is it possible to put a drop shadow on text added to an image?

Is it possible to put a drop shadow on text added to an image using Photoshop Elements 10?

    Yes.
Open the Effects palette. In the drop-down. go to "Drop Shadows." You will find several listed. After you have applied, double click on the f on the text layer in the layers palette. This will bring up the Style Settings. Here you can fine-tune the shadow..
Note that in the drop-down referenced above, there are also Bevels which may enhance your presentation.

  • Is it possible to "drop shadow" on text inside menu items?

    As in subject

    Hi n-dimension,
Currently, the only way in Muse to get a drop shadow on a text (including the text in the menu items) is using a System Font (which means we rasterize it into an image) and setting no fill color on the Text Frame.
Please let me know if that worked.
    Thanks,

  • Is it possible to manually cut away sections of a drop shadow?

Hello, I am having a lot of problems trying to get my jpeg to come out correct.  I want an 8 x 12 piece of art.  In the process of creating the image, i had to use a drop shadow.  However, some of the drop shadow that I dont care about ended up going over the 8" x 12".  No problem right? I simply copied the object with the shadow, put the copy on top of the object, highlighted both and made a clipping mask. The end result was perfect -- it clipped off the drop shadow that was extending over the nice white border and even off into space.
However, when I tried to export into a jpeg for print, the result had the correct size white border on the top, but the other sides were too big.  Sometimes I miss a stray dot or random line that is far off of the artboard, and deleting the stray stuff corrects everything. But this time everything was fine.  I realized that although the clipping mask cut off the drop shadow, illustrator still registered the drop shadow as being a part of the image and taking up space.  So the jpeg doesnt show it, but the deminsions are all off.
My question is whether there is a way to manually cut off parts of a drop shadow without using the clipping mask like I did.
    Thanks!

    Glenn,
Depending on your version, you can make the Artboard or the Crop Area or the Crop Marks fit the part of the artwork you wish to show.
    Export JPEG for print?
There are other options; if not AI, then PDF (or other options).

  • Can't add drop shadow to text in PSE 6

Everyone says to do Layer > Layer Style > Style Settings.
But when I go to Layer Style and try to get to Style Settings, Style Settings is greyed out.   (The text in quesiton is already selected.)
In fact, I've tried everything possible to get Style Settings to become engaged and have not been able to do that.
Also, when I go into Effects and try to add cool effect (torn paper, glowing edges, etc.) to the text, it automatically changes the color of my text.  For example, my text is orange and when I tried "glowing edges" it changed the text to olive drab... and it certainly didn't glow.
Any guidance you can give with these issues... thanks!

Style Settings is for adjusting styles you've already added. The effects you listed are all filters, not effects or layer styles and they use the foreground/background colors, so yes, they will change the color of your text. To apply a drop shadow click the Layer styles button on the effects panel, choose drop shadows from the pulldown menu and double click the one you want. If you don't like it, undo it and try a different one. Then you should be able to adjust things like the angle and distance of the shadow by adjusting the style settings.

  • How do I add a drop shadow to the page in Muse?

How can I apply a drop shadow to the page template in Muse? If I place a rectangle it will not change shape according to the page size. Is this a feature?

    Hello,
You're most possibly referring to "Favicons", and they can be added in a Muse site from the "File -> Site Properties -> Layout" section. Check this screenshot: http://jingsite.businesscatalyst.com/jing/2013-09-05_2332.png
    Hope this helps.

  • Is there a way to create a preset for drop shadows?

I'm setting up a template for a new brochure that will need drop shadows on every product that is being placed. Is there a way to save a preset for a drop shadow so I need not have to recreate the shadow every time? Also this is being distributed to many people to work on and effects presets would be hugely beneficial-just not sure if that is possible? Although it is Indesign, and they are usually on the up and up for this kind of thing.
    Thanks!

The Eyedropper Tool is a quick way of applying the same drop shadow to many objects
But as peter says object styles is a much simplier way.

  • Drop Shadow pdf issue

    Hi there
I'm trying to export a High Quality print Photoshop pdf with 7.5pt Helvetica LT Std white text with a 0.1mm drop shadow. The problem is that when I export it the drop shadow comes out unevenly (some letters/words/lines are bolder than others). I have tried changing font to Gautami, and also reducing the shadow to 0.075mm but with no joy. I have tried it in Illustrator and InDesign as well but with the same result.
Has anyone come across this before or got any ideas?
    Cheers
    Sean

Just to make sure: The issue persists at larger zoom values?
I am not sure but it might be an unfortunate combination of type/vector and pixels.
If you could tolerate a sharp shadow one possible workaround might be to duplicate the Type Layer, make the lower one black and offset it manually.
Another possibility would be to use
    Type > Convert to Shape
and check if the shadow goes better with this in the pdf. Of course the text would not be searchable anymore …

  • Drop Shadow On Placed PDF Illustrator CS2 XPSP3

    Hi,
Is it not possible to add a drop shadow to a placed PDF in Illustrator CS2? I'm not managing.
    Thanks for any help,
    Ariel

I don't have CS2, I have CS4.  If you, or someone else, generate in CS4 a PDF in Illustrator and save as Illustrator PDF, then open a new AI file and Place the vector graphic(s) the drop shadows work on the artwork itself.  If you generate a vector graphic in Photoshop and save the file as a Photoshop PDF then Place it in Illustrator, it will create a drop shadow around the bounding box of the canvas that you had in PS.  I will now try to use a Photoshop PDF with an Alpha Channel and delete the background, save it as a Photoshop PDF and see if it will generate a drop shadow around the artwork, rather than the bounding box.  Stay tuned . . .

  • Golive: Troubling drop shadow on text.

When viewing a Golive web page in Safari, or even an old IE browser, some type (which I assigned a color to) looks fine, but in Firefox, a drop shadow of the same color is being created. I see nothing that could possibly cause this. Any thoughts?

GoLive is an application to create webpages with.
It's a product by Adobe, not Apple.

  • Colored Drop Shadow on a Black Ground in CS5

I'm wondering if there's any way to create a colored Drop Shadow on a black ground in Illustrator.  I'm using CS5 on a windows box.  The Drop Shadow shows when I hide the black ground (of course) but I cannot, for the life of me, find out how to make it show on top of the ground, even after sendeing the 'ground' to the back.  I've even tried the Black 'ground' on its own layer and have it at the bottom of the layers Palette.
I would appreciate any help if at all possible.

The drop shadows are set to Multiply Mode by default, I believe. Multiply doesn't show on black. If you change the mode to Normal you will see a coloured drop shadow. This will be found in the Drop Shadow dialog.

  • Drop Shadow On JInternalFrame

I am trying to adapt Romain Guy's DropShadowPanel to make a drop shadow on a JInternalFrame. It seems as the shadow is drawn outside the clip of the frame I have to somehow increase the clip size to see the shadow. It's nearly working but the shadow isn't working when the frame is moved.
I also tried putting an empty border around the frame and, curiously, that worked in Metal LaF but not Windows which is what I need.
    Can anyone help?

Modifying the clip to draw outside of the frame bounds is not a good idea. Swing expects components to paint only within their bounds. So when you move the frame from position A to position B, swing takes care that the old frame bounds are repainted by the underlying component (desktop pane). The stuff you painted outside of the frame bounds will not be cleared. Maybe you will have some success if you ask the desktop pane to repaint after every resize/move of the internal frame.
The approach with the empty border seemed more promising and I gave it a try. First thing I found is that some InternalFrameUI's install their own border on the frame. See the updateUI() method below to see how I tried to work around that problem. This works for Metal, Motif and Windows L&F (only when using the windows classic theme).
Second thing I found is that when using the windows XP theme, the BasicInternalFrameUI.Handler.layoutContainer() method sets the bounds of the internal frame's "north pane" to the whole width of the frame (ignoring any borders). If you really only need this to work in one specific L&F, I imagine it would be possible to subclass the WindowsInternalFrameUI, override the createNorthPane() method to return a subclass of WindowsInternalFrameTitlePane which in turn override the setBounds() method, reducing the width by the amount needed for the shadow.
The code contains the empty border approach (not working for windows L&F with XP theme enabled). I was not able to test any linux or mac L&Fs.
