Is it possible to upgrade a Macbook at retail apple store or buy upgraded?

I want to buy an upgraded macbook pro. Does the apple stores sell it or upgrade mine? Or just online?
Thanks

You should be able to purchase an upgraded MBP at a retail store but there may be a wait period involved.  Same is the case for an online purchase.
Now if you want to upgrade the RAM or HDD on a non-retina MBP only, it is much more cost effective to do so by purchasing from third party vendors the components and installing them yourself.  This does not apply to CPUs and display modifications.
Ciao.

Only Apple knows when or if this will ever be supported.  They aren't talking..

  • I'm signed in to my account on my macbook air's apple store, but when I try to update any apps, it has a locked in apple store user which is not mine, any help removing this?

I'm signed in to my account on my macbook air's apple store, but when I try to update any apps, it has a locked in apple store user which is not mine. I have no idea where this user came from, but I need to update my apps and get this user off my computer. The users email is locked, it is grey in colour and I can not get it off. I've tried my system settings and the app store, logging in does not change the fact that there is a strange email there. I need help, please! I don't know if this is a hack or what, I brought my computer into the shop to get some work done so it may be their account, I just need the account removed.

You installed a hacked app, originally from the Mac App Store. It contains the receipt for a different app, downloaded using an account that you don't control. You need to identify and remove the hacked app.
Important: The app you need to remove is not necessarily the one named in the App Store alert. For example, the App Store may prompt you to update "Angry Birds" or "Twitter," but the hacked app may be something else entirely. Don't make any assumptions about which app you're looking for. To find it, you must carry out a systematic search with Spotlight.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    kMDItemAppStoreHasReceipt=1
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
In the Finder, press command-F to open a search window, or select
    File ▹ Find
from the menu bar. In the search window, select
    Search: This Mac
from the row of tokens below the toolbar. Below that is a popup menu of search criteria, initially showing Kind. From that menu, select
    Other...
A sheet will drop down. In that sheet, select
    Raw Query
as the criterion, then click OK or press return.
Now there will be a text box to the right of the menu of search criteria. That's where you enter the raw search query. Click in that box and paste the text you copied earlier by pressing command-V.
The search window will now show all the App Store products that are installed. Compare those search results with the list of your purchases from the App Store. To see the complete list, you may need to unhide hidden purchases. If any apps were download from the App Store using other Apple ID accounts that you control, sign in to the store under each of those ID's and check the purchases.
At least one of the apps in the Spotlight search results is not among your purchases in the App Store. Move each such item to the Trash, after quitting it if it's running. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Empty the Trash.
Quit and relaunch the App Store. Test.

  • I got my macbook back from apple store and now it wont start

I took my macbook to the Apple store to get keyboard replaced. Now, I can't get it to boot up past the Apple screen with the spinning dial beneath it. I there anything I can do at home or should I take it back? More importantly, is this a fix I'm going to have to pay for because my computer is no longer covered by warranty?

HI. Try botting up your Macbook using the install disk (insert the install disc and press C). On the menu bar, click on disk utility and try repairing the disk and disk permissions.

according to the tech specs' required to use iClode it seems that Apple is ignoring it's promisses to their valued costumers since 2001..I have to go to an Apple store and buy a new MacBook and iPhone..mm yeah right we are all swimming in cash. On June Apple had promissed it's old valued costumers that they can continue to access their Mac mail accounts via a browser. But hey ! why keep promisses. Now you need to purchase all the latest gadgets to use y'r Mac mail-iCloud. MOVING TO GMAIL !

If you had a MobileMe account, and provided you migrated it to iCloud before 1 August, you can access your email at http://icloud.com on any modern browser. 10.7.2 minimum and iOS5 or 6 are required for the devices to use iCloud syncing and other facilities.
If you have Tiger, Leopard or Snow Leopard you can set Mail up manually to access the email on an existing iCloud account:
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Snow Leopard or Leopard
Entering iCloud email settings manually in Tiger

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store. If your iPod is defective and has not been abused Apple will exchange it at no cost.

take it back asap.  If it wasn't doing it before they cleaned the fans, they may have accidentally done something that is causing this behavior.

  • Will the apple store let you upgrade in store

will the apple store let you upgrade in store if you buy the iphone4 because of the micro sim. or will l have to go to o2 and get my micro sim before the iphone comes out . l was going to get the iphone4 when comes out at the apple store because l would rather got to the apple store than a o2 store

All iphones in Apple stores have sims already installed in the phones. You should have no problem doing everything right in the store.

No one seems to be hearing what Big Q is saying.
He can pair his iPhone to his Macbook, but cannot CONNECT. He's NOT asking for alternative solutions, like Wi Fi.
I am able to both pair and connect my one one Macbook to my other one, but I can only pair but not connect my iPhone or iPad to either Macbook. So I have the same problem. But I can pair and connect my Macbooks to other Bluetooth devices, like my ancient Nokia cellfone, or my Bluetooth HP printer.
It's irrelavent that I can instead use a direct USB cable or Wi Fi between my Macbooks and my iPhone/iPad - why can't I use Bluetooth? If Apple does not allow Bluetooth between it's Macbooks and other Mac devices, then why have Bluetooth at all? Does my iPhone have Bluetooth only so that I can pair and connect to my my non Apple mobile handsfree car kit, or communicate easily with the dreaded Apple enemy Samsung, or what?
Make no mistake , I am a diehard Apple fan, but this Bluetooth non compatibility issue appears shortsighted and seemingly pointless. Why does Apple not just say why they created the non compatibility, or have a message on the Bluetooth setup programme which simply and clearly says "don't bother wasting hours of your time trying to pair and connect your iPhone to your Macbook, because we don't allow that anymore, reason being that............"?
As a first time user of this Forum I am surprised at the intolerant and highhanded tone of some of the replies  to what is a legitimate question, that is obviously plagueing many, many other Apple users.

  • I need to upgrade but don't know which version I have to get.  Do I have to go through each lower version or can I go straight to 10.8 then get free MAverick upgrade?  I live FAR from Apple store, so download upgrade is preferred.  :)

Need a newer version of Os to run printer and software.  Confused if I need to get which version to be able to upgrade to MAverick for free.  Also, need something I can download since Apple store is far away.

Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
(NB: PowerPC applications can still be run in Snow Leopard using Rosetta, but they will not work in later versions of OS X. For detailed information see this user tip:  https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271 )
The OS 10.6 Snow Leopard install DVD is still available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Before installation you should back up all your data.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard to bring it up to 10.6.8, or download the combo update from here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Check via Software Update whether any further updates are required, particularly to iTunes (you will need the latest version in order to synch with mobile devices).
You should now see the App Store icon in iTunes, and you now need to set up your account:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4479
You can now upgrade to Mavericks OS 10.9 for free IF you have one of the following Macs, with not less than 2GB of RAM, and at least 8GB of available space on your hard drive:
    iMac (Mid-2007 or later)
MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
    MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later), (15-inch, Mid/Late 2007 or later), (17-inch, Late 2007 or later)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or later)
Mac Mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
    iCloud system requirements:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4759
If you cannot run Mavericks you can purchase the code to use to download Lion from the App Store (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard):
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
    or Mountain Lion:

  • Configure my macBook in an Apple Store

    Hello !
I'm going to buy the MacBook White in an Apple Store and I'd like to configure it : 2 GB RAM and 160 GB hard drive and a French keyboard.
Is it possible to configure a MacBook like I want in an Apple Store or should I buy it in the Apple Store Online to configure it ?
    Thank you

    Salut Justine,
I would be surprised if an American Apple store had French keyboard MacBooks in stock. It can't harm to ask of course I had a quick look on the American online store at Apple.com and you can choose French as a keyboard layout when ordering (and supposedly it's available in 1-3 business days).
I'm not sure where you got those prices from though Are those educational prices? The normal ones on the stores (in France and USA) are different to what you mention.
Enjoy your visit and your new MacBook wherever you get it!

  • A happy story for a change: upgrading to 3GS at an Apple Store

Just wanted to share my recent upgrade experience which went very smooth. My wife and I went to the Apple Store at The Grove, which is one of the bigger stores in L.A. We were upgrading from the original 2G Edge models and I had already signed up online. They had a roped off area out front for the iPhone line, which was only about 6 people long when we got there. The orange shirt folks kept things moving and were very nice, even offering umbrellas to shield us from the sun. Blue shirts came out to collect us one by one, "ushering" people inside for the sale. It's silly, but there's something fun about having a personal 'shopping valet', especially for a phone. When our turn came we actually got NELSON, who is the guy in the Guided Tour online (didn't realize it until later). He was very nice and helpful, and most importantly: patient. The guy must have activated over a hundred iPhones in the last few days but we were treated like we were the first.
Purchasing and activation was very smooth. We logged in to our AT&T account and verified our info, signed a couple items on their handheld device, then plugged in each iPhone to activate it through iTunes. I was able to sync mine with MobileMe right away, so I had all my info. My wife had to wait until we got home to sync with her Mac but that process went smoothly and she simply restored from a backup of her previous iPhone and all was well (she was jealous of MM so I guess we're getting the family plan now). One caveat is that because we had a family plan for the iPhones, they were both under my name in the system. So each time we had to enter my name and SS#, but with a different phone #; that's one reason we had to come in to upgrade in person. Also, FYI to anyone in California: the new sales tax (9.75%!) applies to the UNSUBSIDIZED price of the iPhone, meaning you're taxed on $599 and not $199. So buyer beware, it's more expensive than you think it's gonna be.
Overall, the whole process was extremely smooth and only took about 12 minutes for two activations. No glitches. Nelson was great, as was the whole staff in a very crowded store. I do appreciate that Apple has put a lot of effort into making the shopping experience easy and pleasant, and it's light-years ahead of the customer service at other electronics stores. Nice job

I just plugged the old phone into my daughters mac, clicked restore, and set it up with her media. I took it the the ATT store; they replaced the SIM card and did whatever they had to do to reactivate it under her phone number. I had to add the $30 data plan to her number and I had to set up the visual voice mail. No problem other than the extra trip, apparently the apple store couldn't transfer the number.
