Is it possible to upgrade final cut express 4?

Hello,
A few years ago I bought Final Cut Express 4.
I would like to know if it possible, with a reduction, to upgrade Final Cut Express to Final Cut Pro X?
I hope to read from you soon.
Best Regards,

No.
Only available from the App Store.
You can test a free trail version of FCP X for 1 month before purchase or purchase straight up.

  • Is it possible to upgrade Final Cut Express 4.0 to 4.0.1?

Someone who was told to purchase Final Cut Express 4.0.1 instead bought Final Cut 4.0. I know Final Cut Pro X has washed away the old Final Cut world - but is it still possible to upgrade FCE 4.0 to 4.0.1?

The only way to upgrade Final Cut Express 4.0 to 4.0.1. is by clicking on 'Software Update' under the 'Apple' icon in the upper left corner of your Mac - you cannot buy or find the update online. If you have Final Cut 4.0 on your Mac, Software Update will pull up the 4.0.1 update (along with any other updates you've missed) and then you can install it and update FCE.
It took me three tries to get Software Update to correctly install the FCE 4.0.1 update - once I did, the problems I was having with my Canon AVCHD camera disappeared. Good luck.

  • I have not upgraded my Final Cut Pro in a while. Is it not possible to upgrade Final Cut Studio anymore? Do you have to buy the software seperate?

Is it not possible to upgrade Final Cut Studio as a whole? Do you have to now buy the software separately?

It is still possible to upgrade some versions of FCP, especially the Studios, As always, the upgrades apply to base versions that needed to be purchased. The latest version of Final Cut Studio is no longer for sale from Apple but it doesn't run on a PowerMac anyway. The only Final Cut Pro product currently for sale is Final Cut Pro X, which requires an Intel Mac.

  • Can I upgrade final cut express to final cut pro?

For some reason I'm having trouble finding the answer to this question. Can I upgrade my final cut express to final cut pro for a cheaper price then having to buy final cut pro from scratch? From what I've read, both final cuts are pretty similar so is an upgrade possible? I've found some posts saying you can, but they were from 2005 and not sure if that is still possible.
    Thanks

I remember learning that myself a few months ago and feeling kicked in the 'nads by Apple. FWIW, I've seen people selling their copies of FCE on craigslist. Not sure it's "supported" by Apple, but what choice do you have to reclaim any value? If you upgrade, FCE is essentially useless and redundant software to you.

  • Upgrade Final Cut Express 2

Can I upgrade from Final Cut Express 2 to Final Cut Pro Production Bundle?

....but you CAN upgrade, very cheaply, to FCE 3.5 which also contains LiveType and Soundtrack.
The extra goodies there should keep you contented for quite a while.

  • It is possible to load final cut express from my G5 to my new MacBook Pro

I have a G5 with final cut express 2 upgraded to 4.  I do not have the serial number for the express 2. Can I switch the program from  my G5 to my MacBook Pro by sharing computers.

The SLA would only allow one computer at a time to have the software installed.

  • Upgrading Final Cut Express to Final Cut Studio

What are the steps to preserve/upgrade/transfer files when upgrading from Final Cut Express 4 to Final Cut Studio?
Such an upgrade isn't referenced in the Final Cut Studio documentation. The only reference to FCE is "You can open and use projects created with earlier versions of Final Cut Pro and Final Cut Express, but you need to specify how you want Final Cut Pro to handle the color space in these files."
Can I drag and drop the whole ~/Documents/Final Cut Express Documents/ folder into a Final Cut Studio folder?

Not really sure what you're asking. FCE projects can be opened in FCP. The media is not relevant to the project. It doesn't get moved or it doesn't need to be. Any media captured in FCE can be imported into an FCP project, though Pro gives you more options for capture
If you want to keep the original FCE project, just duplicate the project file and open one into FCP and keep the other for FCE.

  • How can I find serial number for upgraded Final Cut Express?

On my old G4 laptop, I had upgraded from Final Cut Express to Final Cut Express HD. Just bought a Mac Mini and installed FCE HD, but it's asking me for the serial number from the original Final Cut Express from which I upgraded. Duh. Of course I don't have that any more.
Does anyone know if this might still be found on my hard drive somewhere? Thanks.

Probably not. But just in case, fire up FCE on your old G4 laptop, then do +About Final Cut Express+ and look at the serial number below your name. It's probably the serial number of your FCE-HD Upgrade but there's an off chance it may be your original serial number.
Also, if you sold or gave away your original Full version of FCE, and someone else has installed it on their Mac, you are no longer properly licensed on your current system. You have to keep the original, Full version in order to be licensed to use the Upgrade. That's why the Upgrade asks for both serial numbers.
One other thing, only FCE4 is supported on Show Leopard (assuming your MacMini is new, it will have Snow Leopard on it.)

  • Upgrade Final Cut Express to use on MacBook?

I have FCE 3.0.1 Is there an upgrade path to where I could use it on an intel MacBook? It appears to install but then demands an AGP video card.

Press the escape key when you get the message. This has been asked a lot. Search is your friend.
The application will run OK, but not optimally.

  • Upgrading Final Cut Express HD3

I have a 20" Mac OSX 10.3.9 and have been using FCE HD3 for over a year with excellent results. I have made 8 DVDs with over 7 hours of movies. Can I upgrade to HD 3.5.1 and would it be worthwhile to do so? I have tried to find how I could upgrade and what it would cost without success. I hope you can give me some guidelines. Many thanks. If you really want to upgrade, you can buy the FCEHD 3.5 upgrade for $99 USD; after installing it, you could download the 3.5.1 update.
But check the tech specs first - you will need OSX 10.4.6 and QuickTime 7.0.4 at a minimum, and that's a significant upgrade to your current system that you would have to do first.
Big difference? Fully keyframable effects. If you haven't found a need for them yet, then it would be hard to say you 'need' v3.5.1

  • Upgrade to final cut pro x from final cut express; full price ?

Is there i way of upgrading Final Cut Express 4 to the new Final Cut Pro X ?
Or, one has simply to buy the FCPro X for full price ?

There is no upgrade pricing for FCP X.  Everyone pays the same price.

  • Final cut express on a macbook

Can anyone tell me if its possible to install final cut express on a macbook? Upon install I first got a message saying in order to install final cut express, I must download rosetta, which I did. Now it tells me that I don't meet the hardware requirements, but doesn't tell me what hardware is lacking for the install.
    sick of using imovie.

Well, that's quite a revelation! And it suggests why you got the Rosetta error message -
afaik, FCStudio 1.x does not install or run on Intel Macs.
Under Snow Leopard you need at least FCStudio 2 (FCP 6) and you will be far better off with the current version (FCStudio 3, FCP 7). I suggest upgrading to the current version before you install. It's $300 but you can find it for less if you search online. You would install from the FCS3 upgrade disks and all you would need from FCS1 is the serial number.
However, let me refer you to the Final Cut Pro forum ... as this is the +Final Cut Express+ forum.

  • Final Cut Express as Offline - Final Cut Studio 2 as Online?

Is it possible to use FInal Cut Express for offline editing and then replace the media with HD versions for online editing in Final Cut Pro?
    Example of our proposed Workflow:
    1. Capture HDCam footage from CineAlta Camera into Final Cut Studio 2 at DVCProHD 1080i60.
    2. Use Media Manager to create a copy of the project while downconverting media to DV.
    3. Transfer project folder to other Mac running FC Express. Create FCE project file and create an edit using DV footage.
    (here's where I'm uncertain)
    4. Can FC Express export EDL's or in some way get that edit back into FC Pro, where I can relink back to the DVCProHD media?
Thanks to anyone who can help with this.

Well, I gained access to a computer running FCE 4 and created a test project. When I try to open in in FCP 6.0.1 I get a message stating that the file format is "too new" for this version of FCP.
I guess I need to try FCE HD 3.5, but it will not run on any computer without an AGP graphics card.
This shouldn't be this troublesome, should it?

  • Running Final Cut Express on an XP

Is it possible to run Final Cut Express HD on a XP system?? I'm not sure.

    no, FCE is MacOs only.

  • What's involved with upgrading to Final Cut Express HD?

I was just wondering what is involved with upgrading to High Definition. My current computer is a PowerBook G4 and I did not know if this would support the HD. What percentage of users are still using the regular and what percent have upgraded to HD.
I figured that when I buy a new Mac I would upgrade the HD, but until that point I'd stick with the regular resolution. I would need to buy a new HD video camera too.
    Thanks for any thoughts!

    Hi(Bonjour)!
FCE HD (3.0 and 3.5) is not only for HD editing, it's the new name for Final Cut Express since version 3.0, and you can edit in HDV or SD with the same product.
HDV is pretty demanding on computer power, RAM and storage.
Altough a G4 1,0 GHz meets the minimun requirements to do HDV, pay attention to video card itself. See spec section for FCE HD:
"Macintosh computer with 500MHz or faster PowerPC G4 or G5 (550MHz for PowerBook G4) or Intel Core Duo
    512MB RAM
Display with 1024-by-768 (or higher) resolution
An AGP or PCI Express graphics card compatible with Quartz Extreme or an Intel GMA integrated graphics processor in MacBook or Mac mini
Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later
    QuickTime 7.0.4 or later
HDV features require 1GHz or faster processor and 1GB of RAM (2GB recommended)
500MB disk space required for applications; additional 16GB of additional storage space for Soundtrack and LiveType content (can be installed on separate disks)
    DVD drive for software installation"
A big monitor is also a good idea (kind of one to one pixel at displaying video:the 23" Apple cinema HD display 1920 X 1200 pixels or greater).
Think about an external hard drive to store your captured media.
In the camcorders line-up, it's better to choose a tape recording based one (no hard disk, nor DVD nor media card recorder), because FCE HD allows capture directly from a such camcorder (altough it's possible to download from other sources and convert your material to something that FCE can handles without rendering. A 3 CDD one is better (I own the fabulous FX-1). Many HDV camcorders allows down conversion directly from capturing process: so we can edit in SD format with the same material.
Currently, HDV can be edited on FCE HD, but you will have to print to tape your edited HDV content to keep it in HDV format. You cannot burn HDV or blue-ray DVD ( aka high definition DVD) from iDVD 6 and watch it on a HD TV set.
There are some HD DVD burners around the corner ($$$ to buy and blank DVDs are not cheap) but the choice of software is very limited.
HDV is simply ashtoning to watch on HD tv set and it's the future.
I think you can count on an instant 200$ rebate if you buy a new mac and FCE HD on apple store:

    Good luck.
