Is it possible to upgrade iPhone by putting in a newer logic board?

Hello,
I have had an iphone 3g for some time now and the speeds on the device are very slow compared to other phones. Is it possible to put in a 3Gs of 4 logicboard in my 3G to make it run faster or posssibly out a better camera in it?

To purchase a working 3GS or 4 Logic Board will cost you more than buying a complete perfect iPhone 3GS or 4.
Why it will not work. 3GS Logic Board in 3G will require:
3GS compatible battery, dock with 3GS antenna, 3GS camera, 3GS camera mount, 3GS LCD Display, 3GS Digitizer, I have probably left out a few others.
With iP4 Logic Board nothing is compatible at all.
This would not even work for the iP4 GSM and CDMA models, they are so different in construction you could not even swap Logic Boards iP4 to iP4. You can't even swap the back covers on the iP4 they are different. Only the iP4 batteries can be swapped, but Apple even gave them different part numbers, but supposedly they are identical.

You can do an out-of-warranty replacement with Apple for $199 USD, or $49 if you purchased AppleCare +

  • Putting old Quicksilver 733 CPU in newer logic board (820-1342-B)???

I bought a Quicksilver logic board (820-1342-B) to replace my old 820-1276-A model. My question is this: Can I put my old 733 CPU, native to the 2001 Quicksilver, in the newer logic board which originally supported 867, 900, and 1ghz CPUs?
I'm thinking I need a CPU native to the logic board. Your thoughts are welcome!

I am using a G4 733MHz Silver Tower and I am wanting to upgrade before having to shell out the big bucks to purchase a new Mac, I found a new 1.6GHz processor on https://eshop.macsales.com, a reputable site I have used for years to keep Mac going. I am a graphic designer and primarily use my Mac for Photoshop, Illustrator and Quark, but know I am needing to add video and web editing to my repertoire and my current system can't handle these apps very well. My question is, does anyone know if I can upgrade my logic board/motherboard by simply putting a new one in, I mean will it even be recognized or work at all? F.Y.I. another site I have used for Mac parts is www.dvwarehouse.com. If anyone has done this with any success please share your experience or knowledge about this sort of thing, thanks.

Sounds just like what was happening with my Alum MB. I took it in and they replaced my battery. It seems to be ok now. I don't know what it is, but my battery was fine before 10.5.6 and the same timeframe of the firmware updates when they came out.
My battery health was jumping around but was fine before all of this happened. Unfortunately at 381 cycles I don't think you have much chance of getting the battery for free. Perhaps you can complain about the battery saying it was fine until 10.5.6 or whatever. Not sure when your computer was made, but perhaps you are eligible for this program: http://www.apple.com/support/macbook_macbookpro/batteryupdate/

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was designed for you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchased content.
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iOS device or iPod to a computer - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1848 - only media purchased from iTunes Store
For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • New Logic board? possibly repair?

Recently some water was spilled on my macbook, damaging the high voltage. Apple quoted me a price that was out of this world, my local CompUsa quoted me a 650$ price, and dt&t repair quoted me 550$, im on my computer right now. It works fine, the back light just flickers on and off.
    What should i do?
The Tech guy At compusa sad they Mark up prices by 20% so if i could find the part i could buy it myself.
isn't there a cheaper way to get this one problem repaired?
    its not a 500$ problem. maybe a 200$ problem?
(also could i possibly get a 2.2ghz logic board to stick into my macbook?)

Check with your household insurance company. They may cover it.

Seriosly, I am very desapointed with new MB´s performance, I have been reading this chat room for the past week, since my bran new Macbook (1 week old) went back for replacement.
All this situation with Macbooks could give apple a very bad consumer reactions in the near future. I am thinking about upgrading to a MB PRO, I havent heard complaints as the ones posted here in the past days.

  • Backing up from an old iphone to put on a new one

Is there a way to know if your backup was successful, complete after doing a backup onto icloud?  I just tried doing a back up onto icloud from an old I phone in order to restore it onto my new phone.  I think it worked but I want to look on icloud to see what's on there to make sure it worked.  The old iphone has had some issues and the backup seemed to take a long time, so I'm not sure if it worked.  Thanks.

    Hello partulia4,
As it turns out, there is a way to force a backup and double check when the latest back up was completed. The article "iCloud: Backup and restore overview" goes over the process as well as what get backed up. Here's the bit that applies to you:
You can also back up manually whenever your device is connected to Internet over Wi-Fi by choosing Back Up Now from Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup.
You should also see "Last Backup: " below that button that indicates when back up was completed.
    Hope that helps,
    Griff W.

  • Where can I buy a new logic board for my iphone 4s

I phoned apple today and exxplained that I tried to fix my battery connector myself and messed it up
I asked if I could buy another motherboard for my iphone 4s to be told apple dont sell parts and to try on ebay
I have already tried on ebay and bought a dud as when I fitted it I found it was blacklisted
    Can somebody please help
    thanks

There are no legitimate sources for iPhone parts. Apple does not sell parts for the iPhone. All you're going to find are either counterfeits or parts that have been stripped from broken or stolen phones.

  • (HELP) Dead MacBook Pro.. possibly something to do with the logic board.

I had been noticing my MacBook Pro's performance degrading lately.. for example whenever I dragged a file into a folder it would lag for 5-6 seconds and then copy over. It started to bug me so I guessed that maybe a reinstall would fix the problem. After reinstalling and rebooting, I got no video on the display.. keyboard wouldn't work.. only things that happened was the disc drive made a sound, light came on the font and could hear the HDD spinning a little.
I then took it to the Apple store as thats what Apple told me to do on the phone. So we took the loverly 3 hour drive(there and back) to the closest Apple store just to have the man take it out the back for 2-3 minutes and then come back to say "It's possibly the logic board that is dead".
I am out of warranty by 2-3 months and so he told me I would have to pay £700 or so to repair. As a full-time student I don't have that kind of money.. I don't even have £60. - I find it annoying how they didn't even fully check the problem out.. just a "possibly the logic board".
So what if I manage to click my fingers and have £700 appear right before my very eyes? I pay for the new logic board just to find out thats not really the problem? or maybe have the same thing happen again right after the 90 days that logic board is covered for? meaning I have to fork out another £700.
I am a massive fan of Apple.. I love their products. I have brought so many products of theirs.. now just 2-3 months after my warranty runs out.. I get this. They didn't even say sorry for selling me a faulty product and didn't offer to help out in any way. When I spend £1,299 on something I expect it to last A LOT longer than a year and 3 months.
I need my MacBook Pro very badly for College but now I can't do my work and if I want to do my work, I have to pay £700 for it.
What do I do? Who do I talk to? Is it possible to get it fixed without having to pay that kind of money?
I can't settle for anything less than a Mac. I love the OS way too much and need so many of the apps that are Mac-only. So no way am I going to forget this and buy myself some cheap PC CrapTop.

Unfortunately, if you cannot boot from the disc, it won't be possible to do any diagnostic tests yourself.
It might be worth getting a second opinion. Is there an Apple authorized repair shop anywhere near you? If so, possibly you could take it there and see if they can diagnose it. You may need to pay a small fee for them to do this. But possibly someone might take a little more time with it and be able to give you a definitive diagnosis.
I'm grasping at straws, but you might be able to try resetting the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411?viewlocale=en_US
I don't know if this would help or not--there are not many things to do when the computer is unresponsive and you can't use the keyboard or a disc.
Unless the problem was reported to Apple while the MBP was still under warranty, I don't think there is any way that Apple would be able to fix it under warranty. Did you ever take it in for any problem under warranty that might relate to its current situation?
I don't know if you might be up for trying to fix it yourself. If you are, here is a site that might be of help:
    http://www.ifixit.com/
You have my sympathy--this has to be an exceedingly difficult situation for you. I will continue to think about this, and will post back if anything comes to mind.
    Good luck!

  • Possible Logic board probs

    Hi All
A Friend of mine has a White Macbook 1.83GHZ and there is an issue is that it sometimes shuts itself down! Best guess from the Apple techs was that the logic board is toast but this was only a guess.
Could there be any other reasons as apple wanted nearly £400 to replace a new logic board.

Most likely cause IMO would be an overheating CPU. So, tell your friend to fish out the restore media that came with the system. Find the one that has something about Apple Hardware Test on it. Tell them to run that. The extended test. After letting the system sit for an hour or two to cool off. It might be that it's a simple case of a fan not performing up to spec, which would be considerably cheaper than a new logic board. It's also possible that the thermal grease needs to be reapplied to the CPU and GPU, but that's no small undertaking, so hope for the fan issue.
Seems like kind of a stretch to call those people techs when they're just tossing out some near catch-all component.

  • Is a permenently bricked iphone serviceable without getting a new mainboard?

    Anyone?

If your iPhone 3GS is under warranty you can have it replaced by Apple. But you would get a different Logic Board inside the replacement iPhone. If your iPhone 3GS is "bricked" because the Battery is dead, this could be replaced by Apple, but again you would get a different Logic Board inside the replacement iPhone even for battery replacement by Apple. So for Apple to fix your "bricked" iPhone you will end up with a different Logic Board.
There are serveral ways for an iPhone to be "bricked" with the Logic Board being in perfect shape, with the Logic Board not being at fault.

  • I have a 24" early 2008 iMac. Can i upgrade the Logic Board?

For some reason only Steve jobs will know this iMac only was able to have a maximum 4 Gb Ram and 512 Mb graphics.
To buy a new one with 32 Gb RAM and 2 GB graphics would cost AU$3,000.00.
Therefore I was wanting to know if you could just drop in a new Logic Board with 32Gb RAM and 2 Gb graphics into the old machine?

iMacs are Not like PC's, which are generic and have commonly interchangeable parts.  They are also prone to all sorts of driver conflicts between different versions of hardware that can be installed.  Apple avoided all these conflict frustrations by building each model of Mac to a specific, tightly controlled standard "that just works right out of the box".  But they are Not upgradeable after purchase except for RAM Upgrades and Hard Drive replacement.  That's the tradeoff between getting a PC and getting a Mac.
    Hope this helps

    Hi All,
I am using an iphone 4 .I have two question

Much better notifications, better Mail, better camera, iCloud, wireless syncing, wireless updates, etc.

It isn't that risky. You may be reading hundreds of posts here about problems, but that is out of MILLIONS of iPhones that have been upgraded. Percentage-wise, that means most people have no problem.
However, as with any major change to your system, you should back up everything your iPhone first. Just right-click it in iTunes to get the backup menu. That will be your safe fallback position in case something goes wrong.
I still use an iPhone 3GS. That's older than your iPhone. But iOS 5 works fine on it.

No, you can't upgrade, except by selling your 4S and using the money towards a 5.
