Is it possible to upgrade the bluetooth module in a 2011 macbook pro to 4.0?

I have a 2011 macbook pro and I heard that handoff only works on bluetooth 4.0. I have no interest in using a dongle, so I wondered if i could jut replace the bluetooth module in my computer. Thanks

  • I've lost the use of Appleworks in 10.9.2. Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other?

I've lost the use of Appleworks by upgrading to 10.9.2.
Is it possible to partition the internal hard drive of my MacBook Pro and install an older Mac OS (10.6.8) on the second partition with OS 10.9.2 on the other? I'd like to be able to boot to the older OS when I need Appleworks and  few other applications that aren't available on OS 10.9.2.
    Any suggestions?
    Thank you for your help.

    Hello again, WZZZ,
Here's an update. I was successful in creating two partitions on my internal drive, and in installing OS 10.6.6 on the second partition, as per your guidence. I now have it up to 10.6.8 with all the security updates and AppleWorks. A great thing.
    Some thoughts:
    • The partitioning had one hitch; it failed at first. But once I "repaired" the disc with Disc Utility the partitioning went thru.
    • The partitioning took a long time in 'resizing the partition.' A few hours I think it was. Lots of progress bar watching.
    • If I had it to do again, I'd size the two partitions differently. My original data was occupying about 230 Gb of the 320 Gb disc. I made the new partitions share the space, about 230 and 75Gb. That left very little available space for the main disc. I ought to have put some breathing room in there. As it is, it's an incentive to clean up all those files, especially all those iTunes files. I now have about 10% of available space there and mean to continue deleting.
So, all in all a good project that got me where I wanted to go. Thank you for your help.
    Appreciatively,

  • Is it possible to increase the hard drive capacity on my Macbook Pro?

is it possible to increase the hard drive capacity on my Macbook Pro?

If you feel confident, you can do it yourself.
If not, Apple can do it for the small matter of money.
    If you go to http://eshop.macsales.com/installvideos/
Find you Mac on this page it has videos that show you how to replace the disk drive.
After you view the video then you can make your mind up as to which is the correct way for you to go.

  • Is it possible to find the mac adress of my stolen macbook pro?

Is it possible to find the mac adress of my stolen macbook pro? I've mad ea research an found out that the Mac Adress is really important to trace the device. But it's too late to check that on my laptop.. What should i do?

I understand that. But about your only shot without the box is to supply Apple with the serial number and ask them for the MAC info. My thought was if you can supply the serial number it's more proof that you're the owner. There's really no other way to get it without their help.

  • Hi i cannot change the brightness on my late 2011 macbook pro.

Hi i cannot change the brightness on my late 2011 macbook pro. It is stuck on the lowest level in which i can't view the screen without a flash light. Please i need help how to solve this. I was on my computer when i checked the back which it was really dusty, i tried unscrewing the bottom however some screws were too tight so i took it upon myself and got a rod and startedremoving the dust off the vents and i may have clicked something as i closed the lid on the macbook i could hear the sounds still from the film but the lid was closed as i opened it back up the brightness was on low but sounds were still playing. All the buttons work , all of the F keys, apart from the brightnes keys. I can shine a tourch on the screen and see the display but the brightness will not change but i can see when i click the brightness it says it changes. I have connected it to a spare tv i have via hdmi and i really need help as this is my primary computer and i need it for work when going away. Thank you

  • Can I upgrade the solid-state drive in a MacBook Pro with retina display after purchase?

There used to be an option to upgrade the solid-state drive when configuring a MacBook Pro on the Apple Store online, but it is now gone.  This makes me wonder if Apple's SSDs are built into the computer like the RAM is.  So, is it possible to upgrade the SSD later?  I don't want to pay so much more to upgrade everything else, so I'd love it if it's possible to just upgrade the SSD later.  Thanks!

You will void the warranty. Here are the available post purchase upgrades. http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Air-Retina/Apple-MacBook-Pro-Retina-2012- Drive-Internal-Flash
You should order it with as much storage as you can afford rather than doing a post purchase upgrade because of the warranty being voided.

Read the specs carefully to ensure this will work for the model Macbook Pro you are getting.

  • Is it possible to upgrade only 1 memory slot in a Macbook Pro?

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro 7.1 running Maverick and I want to upgrade my memory from the standard 4bg. Is it possible to add a single 8gb card in one slot and keep a 2gb in the other? I have read that this model can run up to 16gb but I'm not sure I need that right now and I don't want to spend the extra money right now. The reason I am thinking of getting one 8gb card is so that later on I can easily upgrade to 16gb later if I change my mind.
I was thinking of buying this:
    http://www.ramexperts.com/owc-owc8566ddr3s8gp-8gb-2-x-gb-204-pin-ddr3-so-dimm-dd r3-1066mhz-for-all-macbook-pro-13-15-17-2008-2009-2010-unibody-models-all-macboo k-13-unibody-mac-mini-2009-later-imac-2009-models-2407.html

Not all models can accept modules as large as an 8GB module. Some models can accept additional sizes beyond what Apple specifies, others can not.
It seems prudent as a general guideline to ask first, rather than assume
"this MacBook Pro" = "ALL MacBook Pro"
and end up owning modules that do not work in your specific model.
Yes, both statements are true, but regardless of the maximum size of module supported, I believe all the portables can run with only one module installed or with two unmatched modules. I will assume we both agree with regard to adhering to Apple's recommendations rather than OWC's.
Yes, always best to ask first. That's part of adhering to the Five P's - Proper Planning Prevents Poor Performance.

  • Can you upgrade the RAM on a Retina Display Macbook Pro?

So I've been looking around for information on whether the RAM on a Retina Macbook Pro can be upgraded and the mixed messages have left me confused. If I take my Macbook Pro (Retina Display) to an Apple store for a RAM upgrade and offer to pay them for the RAM and installation, would they do it for me?
Thanks and if you can't, please explain why.
I am aware that the RAM is soldered into the motherboard making it very difficult to perform the upgrade, but will some stores actually do it for you?

The MacBook Pro with Retina display is soldered onto the logic board, so RAM can't be added without replacing the logic board.
I know there are shops that may try to add more RAM without replacing the logic board, but they aren't official resellers and if something happens, the warranty will be voided. Apple won't do it.
If you want, you can sell your MacBook Pro and get another one with more RAM. It's the best way to do it, because I don't think you want to spend a lot of money replacing the logic board or you want to take it to a non-official technical support, putting the Mac in risk

  • Can I upgrade the HD on my mid 2009 macbook pro 13" to a SSD higher than 256gb?

I have a mid 2009 MacBook Pro 13". I use it every day for school since september of 2009. I have a HUGE iTunes library (around 150gb) and I use DAW software to create music. I'm looking to upgrade from my current 250GB 5400-rpm Serial ATA hard drive to a larger SSD. I want to do this for the speed of an SSD and I need more hard drive space. Is there anyway to upgrade my macbook to a SSD in the ballpark of 500GB-1TB?? On Apple's technical spesifications it says I cannot upgrade to an SDD with more than 256GB. Is this really true or is there any way around this?
    Thanks in advance!

The tech specs list the upgrades that were available from Apple when that model was being sold new. They don't necessarily reflect the aftermarket-upgradabaility. I don't believe there'd be any reason you couldn't put a hard drive/SSD of whatever capacity you want in that MBP (of course it needs to be the right physical size).
That being said, it's good practice to make sure you have a window to return it just in case.
    Yeah what Bob said.

  • Am I able to upgrade the operating software on my 2009 Macbook Pro to work with Mavericks?

I have a 2009 Macbook Pro with 4 GB of Ram. Am I able to upgrade the software enough to support Mavericks and other software?

Yes, but you have a couple major caveats:
    Rosetta is gone:
    http://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271
    Many drivers may not work.
And you have to buy 10.6 first, then upgrade to 10.6.8, to get the free 10.9 update, then the 10.9.2 update to avoid the security leaks of the first two versions of 10.9.

  • Is It possible to play europa universalis 4 on a 2011 macbook pro

It says that the only thing i don't have tech spec wise to play the game is an insufficient gpu. The game doesn't look as if it is gpu extensive as some other games. This mac has Intel HD 3000 with 512 mb. The suggested amount is a little over 1gb. Is there any way for me to play the game or would i have to someway get an external gpu (not sure if an external gpu is a possible thing for mac just want a possible solution). If you want to see the full sugested requirements for the game, go to the game on steam. An answer would be apreciated.

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 (model A1095) and I was wondering if it's possible to upgrade the bluetooth chip in it to a 2.0+EDR chip. If so, which is the appropriate part to order? I was thinking this one from welovemacs:

  • My early 2011 MacBook Pro says battery not detected and does not work with a new battery either. Works only with the charger plugged in.

About a year back i had replaced the MLB of my early 2011 macbook pro and it was all working fine. A month back my battery went dead saying "Battery Not Detected". I went to Ample technologies, Bangalore, India and gave it for diagnosis. Ample technologies are the authorized Apple support service in Bangalore, India. After 3 days and no phone calls they email me that "They feel that the MLB MIGHT be the problem and they want to test it by replacing the MLB and i have to pay for their testing". I had already spent 40k indian rupees ($700) less than a year back to replace an MLB and now they want to replace it again at the cost of 43k ($750) indian rupees. I have no idea what to do now. Spending 80k indian rupees ($1400) in less than a year to replace the MLB twice sounds unfair to me. Can someone help me out here ? Is there a valid warranty period applicable , since i have changed the MLB a year back ?

short of doing a SMC reset, you maybe at their mercy.

  • Equium A100-027: Is it possible to upgrade the graphic card?

I recently received an Equium A100-027 for my birthday. Overall I'm extremely pleased with it, however the only problem I have is with the graphics card. I am a gamer, and the graphics card just can't handle most modern games.
I am looking into how to upgrade it, how much it will cost etc. However I don't wanna buy a graphics card just to realise that the inside is locked down. Since it's only a week old I also don't want to take a hammer to it just yet ;-)
Can anyone tell me how hard it is to upgrade the graphics card? Is it locked down, or easily accessible?

    Hi Emonn
Unfortunately, the graphic card upgrade is not possible. I dont know if you are familiar with the notebook technology but you should know that the graphic cards installed on the notebook motherboards are not same like the GPUs for desktop PCs.
The card a fixed and there is no way for an upgrade!!!
You can upgrade the memory modules or the HDD on the notebooks but not the graphic card!!!
Im also an gamer and Im a notebook owner but I dont use this unit for gaming but for usual usage like internet, programming, mps, etc
I have a second gaming machine and its a desktop PC. Its support a water cooling module and a really great graphic card but I will change it to the newest one NVIDIA which supports the directX10.
This is a future and all newest games will need this DrectX10!!!
