Is it possible to use a third party router with BT...

Hi all,
I currently have BT Infinity & Unlimited calls on my package, but I use a third party router, namely a Netgear WNR3500L in place of my original v2 Infinity Home Hub.
Now, my question is this: Do I have to use a Home Hub with Vision, or would I be okay using my current setup?
I do realise that if I use a third party router, I won't get support from BT.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Is it possible to use an Airport Extreme router with AT&T 2Wire modem/router?

My AT&T 2Wire modem/router does not have great range, speed, or compatibility with my Macbook and iMac.  I bought an Apple Airport Extreme to try to remedy my problem, however, I did not realize it was purely a router.  Is it possible to use the 2Wire modem/router as just a pure modem and connect it to the Airport Extreme?  Would it be more beneficial to purchase a new modem that does not have wireless functionality?  I have looked at previous posts but couldn't find any definite answers.  Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!!  Thanks!

The easiest route to take here would be to simply turn off the wireless function on the 2-Wire modem/router and then configure the AirPort Extreme in Bridge Mode to provide a dual band wireless network.
If the 2-Wire performance shortcomings are the result of other wireless interference issues at your location, unfortunately the AirPort Extreme may not perform any better, wireless wise.  It's not possible to know things like this in advance....more of a case of you won't know until you try.
In theory, it might be possible to configure the 2-Wire product as a simple modem...but I doubt that AT&T would be willing to tell you how to do this or provide support in the event of problems.
It's getting to be hard to find a simple DSL modem these days, and even if you do, it will have to be re-configured as a Bridge to work correctly with the AirPort Extreme, so that complicates things as well.

  • Is it possible to use a third party software synth to record tracks in GB3?

I bought a Korg K49 MIDI keyboard to use with the software instruments in GB3. It came bundled with the M1Le synth software, which I installed on my Mac. Is it possible to use the M1 software synth to record tracks in GB3, and if so how?

I imported three different softsynths on my Intel iMac. They were all AU plugins, and deleverd as Uninversal Binaries. They are all great sounding syths, and completely free! The sytnhs are: Zoyd (mono-timbral, but "fat" sounds), Crystal (multi-timbral, many many knobs and sliders) and Automat. I made reviews on them on my website, but they are in Dutch. There al links on my pages to the websites where you can download them. I made some audio-samples, which you can hear on http://homepage.mac.com/videoholiday/.Public/Muziek/u_he_zoyddemo.mp3 (Zoyd) and http://homepage.mac.com/video_holiday/.Public/Muziek/Preset34%20en%2086.mp3 (Crystal). Please let me hear if you like them.

  • Use of third party SCs with your Product

Our developers have some third party jsp files etc that they want to use with their new Products they are developing.  I created the Product called Pilot WebApp and then created an SC called THIRD PARTY.  How do I associate the 3rd party jar files with the THIRD PARTY SC?  Do I have to use NDS or do I have to reference via SLD and use SDM to deploy etc.  I am not referring to the ability to connect tracks.  Is connecting tracks the only option?  Basically do I have to add the jar files to a track of its own.  As you may tell by my wording I am an admin and not a developer.

    Hi Steve,
In order to use the JAR files provided by the some other vendor to be used in your applications one of ways available from SP12 onwards is External DC.
Once you create a track and import the Dev Config into NDS create an External Library DC. This DC has a folder called libraries. Place all your jar files inside this folder. Then in the Package Explorer view right click on all jar files and all to the public part.
External Libarary DC does not have a deployable state. Hence if you want to deploy these JAR files on teh J2EE Engine then you need to create a J2EE library DC and use the public part of the External DC. This is done by adding the External DC as a "used DC" in J2EE library DC.
Please refer to note 833415 for more info.

  • How to extend a wifi network of third party router with TC 4th generation?

After searching the communities for a while, I did not find a definitive answer on the following question:
    - I recently bought a 4th generation Time Capsule 2TB (MD0322/A), that I also want to use as an extension for our existing wifi network.
    - This wifi network is maintained by a Sitecom Wireless 300N XR Gigabit Router. Router is set to work over 2.4 GHz (B+G+N) because of several non-N-wifi devices in the network. The channel in use is currently 11.
    - This router provides so called WDS functionality, i.e. the ability for other wifi access points to act as a seamless extension of the basic wifi network (using the same SSID).
    - The security settings in the router are WPA2 Mixed, with a password in plain ASCII.
    - There seems to be no way to set different security levels for WDS-connections versus normal AP (access point) connections. If WDS is enabled, the security settings of the AP-mode are extended to the WDS connection.
I have set the Sitecom router to enable WDS, and added the MAC-address of the TC in the configuration of this router.
When configuring the Time Capsule, with Airport Utility 5.5.3, I can select the option to use TC to extend an existing network, and I can select the network of choice using the WPA personal or WPA/WPA personal security. However, the TC does not succeed in extending the network, and reports this back. If I manually configure the TC and select the network of choice, Airport Utility reports back that the selected network cannot be extended.
I have read several times in other posts that Time Capsule can only connect to third party routers via WDS using WEP-authentication, but these posts were quite old. I was wondering if this is still the case, or that Apple has updated this functionality in newer versions of TC, and thus there could exist a trick to connect to a WDS using WPA.
    I really would appreciate suggestions

Airport can not be used to extend a WiFi created by a non-Apple box.
You need to turn off the radio in the router (shut down the existing WiFi).  Purchase TWO Airport Express units.  Connect one to the router with an Ethernet cable.  Configure that one as your primary WiFi network and then use the second Express as the extender.
You need to locate the second Express where it receives a decent WiFi signal.  Too far away and it has nothing to extend.  Too close and it doesn't buy you anything.  Before you plug in the second Express, check to see where the primary WiFi disappears completely.  My personal WAG is that you want to locate the second Express 2/3 the distance to that point.
If you use Airport Utility to configure the units, it's a snap.  In fact, if you configure the primary first and the extender second, AU will default to exactly the settings that you want.
By the way, I refereed to the Express because it's less expensive than the Extreme and you didn't indicate any need for the Extreme features.

  • THird Party Router with Actiontec GT704WG

    Hello,
I have been trying to set this modem up with a router that i just got recently, Asus RT-N13U. I'm using the DD-WRT firmware with the Asus router. However I can't seem to get the Actiontec GT704WG to go into bridge mode. I have done the following and it doesn't work.
    - Googled and according to Verizon the way to set the GT704WG to go into bridge mode is to set it to DCHP (http://www22.verizon.com/Support/Residential/internet/highspeed/networking/setup/actiontec704wg/1237...)
    - Hit the apply button, let it return me back to the screen. Closed the browser window, shut off the modem, unplug the ethernet from modem which attaches to the computer.
    - Plugged the ethernet from computer into the router and then set up for PPPoE with the Verizon Username and Password, the combo works, I've tried with the modem by itself.
    - Unplugged the router.
    - Plugged another ethernet from the modem's LAN port to the routers WAN port.
    - Turned on the Modem, waited for both the power and DSL lights to be solid, still no internet light at this point.
    - Turned on the router, then waited for the modem's internet light to come on and be a solid green.
At this point I'm pretty sure it should be working, but it doesn't, there is no internet connection.
So after I turn everything off I plug my computer back into the dsl modem directly and I'm back on the internet and the modem is back on PPPoE.
Can someone tell me if i'm doing something wrong or if the GT704WG just won't let me do "brdige mode"?

I have configured an Asus RT-N16 running Tomato USB to run behind the Actiontec.  There are many methods and configurations, depending on which Verizon services you want to maintain, which router you want to run as primary, etc.  The choices run from relatively simple to overly complicated.  I chose something in the middle.  You can study the options and methods on DSL Reports (via Google).  Unfortunately the DSL Reports server is down just now, but if you try in a day or so you will find all you want to know (and much more).  Good luck.
ADDED:  I have posted two photos of this setup on the forums ("my photos" section), but I don't immediately see how to link them here,

  • Connecting my iMac G5 to the internet using a third party router

I have an iMac G5 using (10.4.11) and a Linksys Wireless-G Router (WRT54GS). Currently I have my iMac directly connected to the router and a Macbook and PC using the wireless connection. I'd like to move my iMac to upstairs and leave the router and modem downstairs. When I unplug the router from my iMac it will not find a connection wirelessly. How do I set this up?

I've purchased and installed a new Airport Extreme card. The problem is that while AirPort is showing up and listed as on in System Preferences>Network, it isn't finding mine or anyone's network to join. I have a MacBook and iPod Touch that are both connected to this network and found it easily. I've gone through all the settings on my laptop and made them exactly the same as my desktop and there's still nothing ....

  • Using own/Third party Router in place of Home Hub ...

    Hi All,
I am trying to help a friend who has upgraded to the BT Infinity service. The house has been fully renovated and cat5 networked throughout. The master socket is located in the basement with the Openreach modem and setup in the standard  way :
The aim is to replace the Home Hub 3 with the CISCO RV180 wired router which has full GigaE capability which will link to a 8 port CISCO switch (SG100D-08) and then each port patched into the panel. The Home Hub 3 will then be moved onto the first floor to gain better reception as it is low from within the basement.
I have been trawling around online and I have ascertained that the settings should be as follows :
WAN Internet Connection - Changed to PPPoE
Username - [email protected]  (not your unique personal username ?)
Password - BT or PASSWORD (unable to leave blank in this field)
Well, after trying for hours with this setup and config I have been unsuccessful in getting an Internet connection. Can anyone give me any suggestions and hints in resolving this problem. It's really pulling my hair out !
I do not not know whether changing the DOMAIN name and the Routers IP Address to that of the Home Hub 3 (192.168.1.254) will make any difference ? What should be the MTU value ?
Does anyone know if this CISCO RV180 model will work and has had any experiences of it with BT Infinity. The chap from Broadbandbuyer.com said it should be fine !
Any hints and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance people !

I have seen that thread but wasn't sure if that applies to more 'advanced' CISCO Routers plus I am confused as to how you install that config to the Router ? How do you telnet to it ? Can it be done through a browser ?
    http://community.bt.com/t5/BT-Infinity/Infinity-on-Cisco-Router/m-p/149281/highlight/true#M2924
It's odd that settings can be changed on other brands of Routers in the GUI but you have to install some kind of config on a CISCO Router ?

  • Ability to use external third party ETL tools removed?

    Hi,
have just been looking the possibility of using a third party tool (Informatica, Business Objects Data Integrator) with NW2004s.
It appears that there is no longer a suitable source systyem type or at least there isn't in my Ramp Up system (SP7).
Does anyone know if the functionality required for this has been retired? Or is it still there behind the scenes and just needs to be used in a different way.
    Many thanks,
    Mike

    Hi Andreas,
    thanks for this.
It used to be that you needed an RFC destination from BW to the third party ETL RFC server, and a dedicated Source System for this and then the BAPI loader was used.
Not sure if I understand how this will be achieved with the 3.5x data sources as aren't these SAP only?
In the External Systems area of the source systems tab, there are some entries for:
    RA 115     Oracle Applications 11i
    LF 205     Tealeaf 2.05B
    PD 020     SAP xPD
So it sounds like I create these as a SAP source system having previous done the RFC config?
Thanks for your help and a little more would be great!

  • How to use third party APIs with Sun J2ME Toolkit

I've installed Sun J2ME Toolkit 2.1. If I intend to use other third party APIs with my existing toolkit, how do I do that. I can manage to get the jar file of the associated API classes, but how to integrate the same with the toolkit. Thanks in advance to all who support.

if I remember right, it is enough, if you put the .jar of the api in the lib/ directory of your project (<WTK>/apps/<yourProject>/lib/ )

  • Feature Request: I want Firefox 4 to remember search history, but not form data, without having to use a third-party plug-in. Is this possible now and I am just not seeing it?

I don't like having Firefox (or any browser for that matter) remembering any form history, as I do not see this as secure data storage (IT security/network engineer). Currently the only way to disable this is to also disable search history, which is a useful tool to have, and I am not worried about the security of that data (I don't search for sensitive data). I would like to see these two options under the Privacy->Custom Settings Preference to be separated so that people can more finely control what of their data is stored.
Is this possible without the use of third-party plugins?

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • Extend range of unencrypted WLAN of third party router *without* using WDS

    Hello,
Imagine the following scenario for which I would like to find a solution -- but I think it's impossible, so I'm looking for hints:
My neighbour operates an open (unencrypted, unprotected) wireless network that I can use. He uses a third party WLAN router that does not support WDS. I have good reception only in a certain area in our house, so I would like to extend the range of the network, using my Airport Express station (or possibly other hardware).
I cannot make changes to the configuration of my neighbours router anyway, because we don't know the password for the configuration pages (and we don't want to reset the device to factory defaults).
I know that normally one would configure the two routers (his and mine) to use WDS (each knows the other's MAC address, uses the same channel, SSID and encryption setting etc.), but this is not possible here.
I could join his network with my powerbook wirelessly and then set up sharing preferences on the powerbook such that the WLAN internet connection would be shared onto the ethernet port to which I would connect my Airport Express station to allow wireless access by other machines. This isn't the cleanest setup because I think my powerbook would have to distribute IP addresses using DHCP and NAT which my neighbour's router does, too, so we should not use the same IP range (e.g. would use 192.168.1.xxx and I would use 10.0.1.xxx) and probably we shouldn't use the same SSID, either.
Because there's no WDS support, something like the above seems to be the only solution to me, namely: I would have to join his network as a normal client and the redistribute more or less separately (different subnet/different SSID/different IP address range/...).
Now, the Airport Express can join an existing network as a client, but despite the displayed settings in Airport Admin Utility, bridging to the ehternet port or Airport Express does not work. I have read a lot of Apple documentation, and my understanding is that when setting up Airport Express to join an existing wireless network, the only purpose would be to use it as the receiving end for iTunes music streaming and possibly to connect a printer to it; but the ethernet is completely disabled. (It took me hours to figure this out because the Admin utility clearly suggests that the station would operate as WLAN-ethernet bridge in this setting, but it doesn't.)
So do you have any other solutions to this problem? WOuld an AIrport Extreme station be capable of doing this?
I don't want to use my powerbook as the 'bridge' to share the WLAN connection to the ethernet port as described above because that would require my powerbook to be on alll the time and be located in an inconvenient place.
    Thanks for your replies!
P.S.: I do have some older/other wireless routers available, but I think they're not going to help because they won't allow this rather unusual setting. They're all very basic.
Powerbook G4 1 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   Airport Express

WOuld an AIrport Extreme station be capable of doing this?
No. The only way an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) can wirelessly join a network is using WDS. It does not offer the wireless client mode like the AirPort Express (AX).
Using your PowerBook as you suggested is the only solution using Apple's devices.
There may be 3rd party repeaters that you can use but I have no experience with them.
