Can an iPad 2 be used as the monitor on a Mac mini? Either by using Air Display or by cabling?

    Yes !
You can use iPad as the display for your mac mini. but it will be your secondary display .. i.e. you need to have a primary display other that iPad.
    use teamviwer for that.

  • Possible to use iMac 27" as monitor for PPC Mac Mini (DVI)?

This question appeared on the support community, about 4 years ago, but the adapter mentioned as a solution is now discontinued.

I have an old PPC-based Mac Mini that I would like to connect to my new iMac 27", but my Mac Mini has DVI output and the iMac 27" has Mini DisplayPort input. Is this the only way to connect a PPC Mac Mini (or any DVI device) to the iMac 27"?

I am in the same exact situation, and would appreciate any suggestions!
    Thanks!

Sorry, no the MM is simply too old. Please read Apple's FAQ on Target Display Mode and you will see:

  • I would like to know if is possible to use the old iSight with my powerbook (mid 2009)?

I would like to know if is possible to use the old iSight with the macbook pro (mid 2009)?

    Hi,
If the Mac has Firewire then you can use the External iSight
    (Other readers
If you have Firewire 800  then you will need an adapter to use the Firewire 400 camera - Search for the word Adpater and see posts by EZ Jim for more details)
Don't daisy-chain the camera with Hard Drives
The camera only uses a data rate of 200Mbps and the differences in Hard Drive data speeds can be an issue.
The External iSIght should work no matter what Firmware is on there currently.
There is some evidence that having the 1.0.3 version (Open the System Profiler > Hardware > Firewire) on the device makes it more compatible/useable in later OS versions
The Updater is included in Tiger and Leopard.
    Hard Drive/System/Library/CoreServices/iSight Updater/iSight Updater.app
An OS Update could "trigger" this to be run if you have Tiger
It can also be run as a Standalone.
It is Not present in Snow Leopard and although the documentation says this Firmware is an Audio update some people report that the camera needs the 1.0.3 Firmware to run.
(that could simply be the "Flashing" the Memory involved resets it enough to work)

  • Is it possible to have a phone line connected to a Mac Mini (OS X10.8.2) so you can use your computer with Parallels (Windows xp) to dial into a modem to download data being collected and stored at the remote location?

Is it possible to have a phone line connected to a Mac Mini (OS X10.8.2) so you can use your computer with Parallels (Windows xp) to dial into a modem to download data being collected and stored at the remote location?

Hi, do you mean a real Dial-up Modem as in the old days?
As I recall, the Apple USB Modem won't work in 64 bit OSes, but there are others that will, I think this is one of them...
    http://www.zoomtel.com/products/dial_up_external_usb.html
Or is the Modem on the other end Cable/DSL/FiberOptic?

Is it possible to use the fonts I have in my Mac Font Book with Creative Cloud software, such as Illustrator and Photoshop?

    Hi Kyley,
Syncing fonts from CC is a feature of Typekit. However, fonts that you've installed manually on your system will be available in all your apps. You won't need to sync them.
I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any further questions.
    Cheers,

  • How do I move all files from an old PPC to a new Mac Mini?

How do I move all files from an old PPC to a new Mac Mini?

The new mini has a Firewire 800 port. Likely the PPC version only has Firewire 400.  The OP will need a converter cable which is why I was asking first about what hardware is available and how much is being copied.
Probably go with using the external hard drive if you decide all you want are data files.

  • Many online sites say no longer support .... using Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on mac mini. What do I do?

Many online sites for insurance, banking, etc. say they no longer support my system.  I use Snow Leopard that came with my Mac Mini and it's update if I go to the "software update" which is 10.6.8.  What do I do?

Your Mac Mini is capable of being upgraded to Yosemite (free in the Mac App Store). The specified minimum of RAM is 2GB but you are likely to find it runs very slowly on that, with a lot of beachballing. I don't know what the maximum RAM is but you should consider installing extra if you can. Even so you may well find it's rather slow - Yosemite is really optimized for modern Macs running SSDs.
Snow Leopard isn't getting any more security updates by the look of things, so there's a lot to be said for upgrading it. However if you install the latest FireFox (36.0.4) that will run on Snow Leopard and should at least solve the inaccessible sites problem.
If you do decide to go for Yosemite you should make comprehensive backups: I would advise if possible cloning the entire Mac to an external hard disk, so that if you find you don't like Yosemite you can clone back and be no worse off. Otherwise downgrading is frankly a pain to do.

No idea if Windows will do it, but you can run Windows without Bootcamp & have OSX available at the same time, which should give you all the Monitors that OSX uses.

  • Use HD trashed iMac as monitor for Mac Mini?

I have a 20" iMac that recently had a hard drive failure that I  have not been able  to overcome. Rather than trashing it, is there a way to use it as a display for a Mac Mini?

Maybe if you are very good at electronics. There is not easy way on older iMacs. If it was a newer one with a Thunderbolt connection then yes.
If you can install a good HD with OSX you can use screen sharing.

Can I use a time capsule in place of mac mini as a backup storage?

If you mean as a TM backup target.. that is what the TC is designed for..
If you mean as a media player centre with all your itunes etc.. no it is a failure.. the TC has no media players.. no smarts at all. It is a hard disk in a wireless router.. nothing more.

    12. Can I output via Mini DisplayPort to an RCA or S-Video connection?
No. The Mini DIsplayPort connector allows output to Mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort, VGA, DVI, and HDMI connections when using the proper cables and adapters. However, output to RCA, Component, or S-Video connections is not supported.
    - The current Mini as one HDMI out. The Min somes with a HDMI to DVI adopter. Howver, the HDMI output only outputs digital signal and thus yo will need a converter to convert that digital signal to analogue composite
    - The Min also comes with a Thunderbolt port which accepts the min display connector. However. based on 12 above it does not seem to support composite. The 12 is from
