  • Edit .mts / H.264 file in premier pro and preserve time of recording (typical timedateoriginal meta)

There is a similar discusion in this thread, but I though i start a new focused thread, and sum up
    Similar thread:  http://forums.adobe.com/message/4212491#4212491
This is what i want to acheive:
My AVCHD camcorder generated a bunch of ,mts files.
I want to merge these into a single file, edit it in premier pro and generate a video in which the subtitle track contains the time of recording.
This is what i can do:
I can merge all .mts into a single .mts with the help of tsmux
I can then extract the timedateorginal meta codes of this file with all the recording dates and times with the help of subtitlemaker (url in my entry in the thread above) and make a subtile .txt file.
I can then add the subtitle track to the .mts file in Adobe Encore and i'm done!
    But here is my problem:
I want to edit the clips. I can not do that in encore, i need premier pro for that.
However, if i start to edit .mts in premier pro, it seems i lose the meta data which contains time of recording.
Even if i go the really cumbersome way of editing each original .mts files individually (auch)..I still have the same problem.
    HELP !
In my DV days life were easy:
Import the 9Gbps single DV file into premier pro.
    edit the whole thing.
    export as DV
run through http://paul.glagla.free.fr/fichiers/dvdate_71en.zip and generate a subtitle file which contains the time of recording dates and times for the video.
add subtitle to the video in encore, done.
I appriciate any solution. I don't think i am the only one with this problem. I have googled really hard to find a solution, but have had no luck.
    Thanks...
    Per

So..for anyone who has the same problem and find this thread, here are my 2pence.
I want to make a home move of our last 5 skiing vacations. I want a subtitle track containing  the time of recording information.
I do not want a title overlay on the video, but when the discussion about 'when was that--!?' comes up, i want to be able to turn on subtitle. Simple !
I moved from DV to AVCHD (not because of HD Jim, but the DV camcorder was old, and newer seemed better at the time)
Hence my new problem: I have a bunch of .mts files, i need to edit those in a timeline editor, and get a subtitle track with the recording time.
recording time is in the -mts video meta data called timedateoriginal. To some extend also file attribute date of change (=time of writing to the SD card).
As it seems difficult to keep the meta data once you passed a timeline editor, and the file attribute does not make sense when you put a bunch of .mts files together, I think the best way forward is to find a timeline editor which also has subtitle tracks.
i.e. after steps 1) and 2) in my i have a single file and a .srt subtitle file to match.
I can now use those in a timeline editor.
Hunt is out for which editor, but it seems there are a couple of options. To be tested.
Once the sequence is edited, the new version of the subtitle needed to be exported so that it can be imported into adobe encore together with the final sequence for DVD/blu-ray authoring.
If anyone find a better way,, please let me know.
    thanks...

am editing with red files in premier pro and when I export and then upload to youtube it is not showing as an hd video.  can anyone help?

Then it's probably YouTube - have you checked here to see that you're watching the hi res version? It could be that YouTube is choosing an easier version to display based on your internet connection.
You can see on this screenshot that although the video has up to 1080 specs, my connection is making YouTube show me the 360p version by default.

  • CS4 Premiere locking up royally on little mts files on Mac Pro Lion 10.7, is CS5.5 any better

Sorry for long title, got the boxes mixed up.
Having trouble working with HDV mts files in CS4 Premiere on a new 12 core MAC Pro with Lion 10.7 OS
Have used Adode CS3 and now CS6 at my office regularly. CS6 can work with about any file type.
Found this ClipWrap program on online and have re-wrapped these mts files into .mov files. They do open and must be each rendered out and do so slowly. Scrubbing the video doesn't do well - locks it up.
Very certain I have plenty of Computer power, is CS4 a dog? It will open CS6 projects that I bring home from work and do basic cutting on with M2T files and MPEG2 HD video.
I also do not see near as many Transition and Effects options for Audio or Video in CS4 as I had back with the old CS3 when I use it - very puzzling.
Would CS5.5 give me more optimal performance with this MAC? Do I need a third party card? We now run full HD on CS6 at work without using the Blackmagic card I have. Should uninstall and re-install the software? I am a video editor, just doesn't seem to perform like it should.
I am considering looking into the Final Cut X after this. Thoughts on this subject welcome.
    Thank you.

    Anything??

  • Importing MTS files in Premiere Pro CS5 Trial

I just bought the Master Collection but I am getting the box sent to me via mail so while I am waiting I am using the trial version. Anyways I tried importing MTS files from my hard drive and I am getting the following error - "file has an unsupported compression type." Is this because of the trial version? Will this work as soon as I get my serial number and officially register the product? Thanks in advance.
    - Zef

Is this because of the trial version?
Yep; no MPEG-based assets in the trial due to licensing restrictions.
Will this work as soon as I get my serial number and officially register the product?
Yep; be sure to uninstall the trial before you install the Master Collection, though. It's a good idea to run the CS5 Clean Script, too.

  • Importing MTS files into Premiere Pro cs5

I have been reading though some threads recently and now it has me wondering what I am missing on this subject. I have been working with MTS files for quite a while and have been dragging the folder into my project and rendering from there. (iMac 2012 with retina display)
Does this method affect the quality of these files? Is it better to convert them from a converter program and then import them? Also I have not been able to use any of the clips unless I keep them attached to the whole. Noticing this is not the case for my friend who uses .mov. Is there a way around that, that I am not aware of.
Coming from  SD digital tape based camera to the Canon XA10 using ACVHD cards the quality already looks better to me, but if there is a chance it can look even better than I want to try that method out.
Thanks for any help/ideas I can get.

  • Possible to use MIGRATION to move Final Cut Pro to external HD w/OS ?

    MBP=Tiger and working FCP Studio.
Just wondering if it would be possible to use migration assistant or some other third party application (since it is the same computer) to my bootable Leopard external HD in order for me to see how well it works without re-installing all the programs again.
    Thanks.
PS. How many machines can you install it on and is there a sheet that shows the difference between FCP Studio and Express? Does express come with all the programs and demos?
Next purchase after the HD 120hz refresh TV (Lord willing) is a Mac Pro - just read that there is software out there to make a stock 2.8 run faster than the 3.2, not sure I would do.
    Thanks again.

Well it looks like it will work and it won't.
Apparently, you have to SELECT all applications which then by default, selects your library and I don't have enough room.
Was hoping that I could just choose ONE application, FCP and get used to it in Leopard. I don't suppose there is a 3rd party product that will allow me to do this. Why doesn't  allow us to manually select WHICH application(s) we want to move.
Surely there has to be another way instead of installing all of the DVD's again. This is a nightmare.
Appreciate any ideas. Otherwise its install all the DVD's, or CLONE OS to a NEW HD and start from there - glad I did as I have two clones of Leopard ,one 10.5.3, the other 10.5.2 and I tested 10.5.4 and yikes, it had major GU problems with redraw and lost some points overall in XBENCH.
Am sure they can fix that easy - should be mostly for windows users and imobileme (LOL).
Any help in transferring FCP to external appreciated via 3rd party program or individual application select.

  • Renaming mts files in Premiere Pro

It seems to be the consenus to not do anything to the folder that you copy over from your camera's media card to your media drive- other than perhaps put it in a folder that relates to your project -
(OR, is it worth going through Prelude which I have scene in some discussions)
For organizing w in your project, can you rename mts files that are already imported in your project , giving the clips a name or subject instead of the 0001 number

For organizing w in your project, can you rename mts files that are already imported in your project , giving the clips a name or subject instead of the 0001 number
Log or enter info into the Description Column instead.
I never touch the filename... unless I was maybe copying one and sending it somewhere.(which by the way works fine for that purpose despite it not being in the Folder Structure)
I have the Description Column next to Filename Column in the Project Window.  (Copy and Paste can be your friend)

  • Using MAC files in Premier Pro (PC)

I received files from a MAC user and they do not have a file extension / aren't recognized by Premier Pro CC. According to the viedographer they are .mp4 files.
