Is it possible to use the ipad to access a mac mini running mountain lion and back to my mac?

Is it possible to access a mac running mountain lion using Back to my Mac?

To my knowledge the iPod can only be used as a secondary monitor since you have to boot up the Mac and turn on the secondary display. You would still need a KB and pointing device for the Mac
However, you can log into the Mini from an iOS device like an iPad using app like LogMeIn, GoTo MyPC or TeamViewer on both the Mac and the iPad. You use the touch screen on the iPad for all control of the Mac.
As you said, that would be tedious for a lot of typing but you could use a BT keyboard for the iPad.

I'm looking for a possibility to use the iPad for photography while traveling, without the access to a computer.
Shooting photo's in RAW format crates pretty big files that will fill up the iPad's memory pretty fast if you shoot a lot during a (let's say) month long trip.
my idea was to use load the photo's to the iPad so i could view them and sort out any bad ones. then copy them over to the storage device so i can continue using my CF cards for shooting. I have an image thank for copying the photo's directly to the HDD but it would be so sweet to be able to check them on the iPad before hand.
    any suggestions?

Check out pogo plug device, it allows you to upload camera roll via wifi.

my imac is running mountain lion and last night i downloaded maverick. in midst of installing it, it said a powerPC app microsoft word would not work so i canceled the install for the time being. my questions is  if i choose to finish installing maverick does that mean i will nevver be able to access word documents stored on my desktop? or do the word docs automatically convert to pages or what? i am so confused. would i be better off just sticking with mountain lion and send the maverick install to the trash? hoping someone will be able to answer my question though i am afraid the response is likely to be just stick with mountain lion so you can keep using word. i had been looking forward to maverick but it seems pretty drastic to not have access to microsoft word anymore by switching to maverick. hope someone has an answer so i can have the best of both worlds so to speak!

thanks for your response Csound1 on the peninsula ... if i go ahead and install maverick and then download LibreOffice or OpenOffice will i then be able to access old microsoft word saved documents on my deskstop through those two free alternatives? i am not that knowledgeable about these things so i am not sure if you are saying i will just be able to use libreoffice or openoffice for creating new documents or whether i can access the saved microsoft docs? are they transferred to OO or LO or what and if editing of the old word docs is needed can i do that through the OO and LO programs or apps (see i am not even sure if i am using the correct vocabulary!) hope you can answer this as quick as the first question, so i can decide to stick with mountain lion and trash the maverick install or proceed with maverick install and hoppe that my microsoft word docs are still accessible through OO or LO or adding to myquestion will pages on maverick be able to open the old word documents? thanks again!

  • Using A LaCie d2 DVD +/- RW Drive With A Mini Running Mountain Lion??

I have an older LaCie d2 DVD  /- RW drive that I would like to use with my Mac Mini running Mountain Lion.  LaCie says it is not compatible but I read somewhere that you can type a command into the terminal which will allow the unit to function.  Does anyone know about this?
I really hate to buy a new drive but that looks like it will be the only alternative.
Any response will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

I should have mentioned in my previous post that I have already tried to use the drive but it is not recognized by the Mini.  I pretty much have tried everything but no luck.  The funny thing is that an older LaCie cd drive works fine.  I am using that at the moment but I need a drive to burn the occasional DVD.
Any other suggestions or should I go shopping for a new drive?
    Thanks

  • Hi, I have a mac book pro running mavericks and recently tried to connect to a 3rd ten apple tv but the airplay icon is not showing up in the top bar. I then tried my girlfriends laptop running mountain lion and it showed up straight away. Any suggestions

Hi, I have a mac book pro running mavericks and recently tried to connect to a 3rd gen apple tv but the airplay icon is not showing up in the top bar. I then tried my girlfriends laptop running mountain lion and it showed up straight away. Any suggestions?

How old is the MacBook Pro?  AirPlay is only supported on 2011 and newer models, due to the requirements it has in hardware for graphics acceleration.

  • HT1338 I cannot open any pdf files on my mac book air.  I used to be able to.  I downloaded osx mountain lion and it still doesn't work.  any suggestions?

I cannot open any pdf files on my mac book air.  I used to be able to open them.  It was suggested that I get OS Mountain Lion and I did.  still can't.  Any ideas?

You can download Adobe Reader from adobe.com.  The Mac OSX uses its "reader" to open PDF files without the Adobe Reader.  If you downloader adobe reader, it should open all PDF files.  Hope this helps.

  • How do I transfer my music from my mac mini running mountain lion to iPad 2. I have ICloud running, why are they not automatically pushed to the ipad2? Do I need to use ITunes? If so, how do I do it without deleting everything on the IPad2?

I have a new MacMini onto which I have installed music files. I want to transfer them to my IPad2 . I have ICloud working properly, or so I thought, so why are these files not appearing on my Ipad2? Do I need to use ITunes? If so, how do I sync without erasing what is already on the IPad? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is the procedure for syncing music to the iPad.
Connect the iPad to the Mac and launch iTunes.
Click on the iPad name on the left side under devices.
Click on the Music Tab on the right.
Click on all of the albums or playlists that you want to sync - or the entire library if you like.
Click on the Sync Music Heading.
Click on Apply in the lower right corner of iTunes
iCloud does not transfer the music on the Mac to the iPad unless you download it again on the iPad. iTunes Match may be what you are thinking of and you have to subscribe to that feature for a fee.
You have to sync the music that is already in your iTunes library to the iPad using iTunes. You can turn on Automatic Downloads on both devices for music and when you download music on one device it will download to the other device.
I get the feeling that you have never synced the iPad with iTunes before but you already have content on the iOad and are getting a message that the iPad will be erased if you sync with iTunes. If that is true, you need to transfer all iPad content into iTunes before you sync. This will help you with that.

  • Using the iPad to access a Networked drive?

    Greetings,
Has anyone any experience using an iPad 2 to access a networked drive?
I have a iPad 2 with the newest release of iOS. I am using a app to access my laptop. The app works well at this, but I'd like to access a networked drive that I use for all the computers in my home (all running Snow Leopard).
I use a LaCie D2 (which I have learned may not be compatible with Lion, but that's another story...) which is connected directly (ethernet 10/100) to a wireless router. I use this drive to store iTunes and as a backup drive for 3 computers in my home.
The D2 uses a "network manager" application on each computer to mount shares, the D2 is partitioned in such a way that there are 2 "shares" for each computer, a "common share" which is the same for all computers and a "private share" that is specific to that computer. Using the Network Manager I create shares on the D2 by creating "user profiles" (actually each "user profile" is a specific workstation/computer). When the computer starts up, the Network Manager loads and the shares appear. The NAS device has its own IP address.
The iPad does not have a "network manager" app. Instead I am using a file sharing app from ITunes. The app works pretty well in accessing my laptop (using it's IP address). I would like to use it to access the networked drive too.
Has anyone successfully used their iPad 2 to access a networked drive?
The problem with the LaCie D2 with Lion is of concern. Looking toward the future does anyone have recommendations for using a different Networked drive? If so, what drive and manufacturer?
    Thank you,
    Tim Kern

No, you cannot print from your iPhone. Not yet. Let Apple know if you think this would be a good feature:

  • Why is it not possible to use airplay mirroring on earlier macbook pro models with Mountain Lion?

I know there are questions alike mine, but if anybody knows some new information on this, please let us know.
I've been looking forward to this release of the OSX, especially the built in AirPlay mirroring function for the Mac Pro, which I've been missing ever since I bought the Apple TV.
Now finally when I went to download Mountain Lion, I accidentally search google, and find out that AirPlay mirroring is only supported on early 2011 Mac Pro and later?
What are the earlier users going to do? I have an early 2009 model of the Mac Pro, and I just wan't to know if I'll be able to utilize the new AirPlay mirroring function or not, which determines whether or not I'm going to upgrade my OSX version
Hope someone's got news on this one.
    Best regards, Thomas

  • HT201343 Why can't I mirror my ipad 2 on my Mac Mini running Mountain Lion without an Apple TV?

I was under the impression that with Mountain Lion that i would be able to use Mirroring, but i see that its only mirroring from Mac to Apple TV, or iphone / ipad to Apple TV. Why can't you use airplay to mirror my ipad to my Mac without having to buy Apple TV? If the new mac has airplay, why do i need Apple TV? My mini is connected to my 55 inch LED TV, thus i don't need an Apple TV to watch content. Seems redundant to have both really.

I believe you may be able to use a third-party application to receive in the way you suggest:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AirTunes
Scroll down to "Third-party software implementations".  I haven't tried any of this.

  • What version of airport utility should I use for my airport express if I'm running Mountain Lion?, What version of airport utility should I use for my airport express if I'm running Mountain Lion?

I can't configure my airport express because I get a message stating I need to run an older version of airport utility to support itk but when I try and install the older version, I get a message stating it can't be installed because it isn't supported.  Help!

Unfortunately, Apple did not include support for older AirPort devices in the recent "upgrade" to Mountain Lion. A few conversations with Apple Support indicate that Apple has no plans to change this going forward.
If you have another Mac there running Lion or Snow Leopard...or even a PC...you can use that device to administer the older AirPort Express.
If that is not possilble....and you have been using Time Machine for backups of your Mac....you can try to go back in time to locate the earlier version of AirPort Utility and restore it to the desktop. Then, simply move the AirPort Utility application into the Utilites folder and will co-exist with AirPort Utility for Mountain Lion.
Apple does not support this type of thing of course, so you will be on your own if you want to try an "unsupported" procedure like this.

  • How can I connect my iphone 4 and my mac mini, running mountain lion, so that I can airplay music to my mac mini from my iPhone?  Or, is this not possible?

Just trying to stream music from my iphone to my mac mini speakers.  Any way I can do that in a similar way that I can do it via applte tv?

    No.
Since all music on your iPhone should be in your iTunes library on the Mini if that is the Mac you sync your iPhone with, play the music from iTunes on your Mini through the Mini speakers. If the music is in your iTunes library on another Mac, set up Home sharing to play the music in your iTunes library on another Mac with iTunes on your Mini.

  • Multiscreen + multitasking of my laptop using the ipad?

Can I use the ipad to access and use my computer while I am using the computer for other activities?
(watching a movie, browsing the interent, change settings, run programs, do everything an administrator would be able to do).
It is the only good use of the ipad I can think off. I bring my laptop with me everywhere and it is simply far stronger and in all ways better than a touch (youck) pad. So are there any other methods an ipad could enchance my laptop use?
*Preferably over bluethooth, wireless would slow down my laptops speed, bluetooth would not.
*Not intrested if it involves buying an app,
as an unwanted gift I am just not keen on spending anything on it.
Then I would rather just return it.
    * windows 8 <-> ios 7

Most if not all remote protocols do not support Bluetooth because it uses a lot of power (since you have two instead of one radios active, the other being WiFi) and it doesn't have as much bandwidth or as long of range but if you are willing to try something that does go over WiFi you can try this: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/mobile-mouse-remote-mouse/id356395556?mt=8
