No, it is not possible, but you can always download any video converter. Or open your AVI file with QuickTime.

I don't believe AVI is one of the supported formats. You are probably better off converting it to an MPEG format.

I have several AVI files on my MAC hard drive brought over from PC. I can't view AVI files on Quick Time. How can I view or possibly convert AVI files to view on iMac?

Is it possible to view ".mp3" files in Mavericks "Tags" windows by file name (rather than the info in the "name" field of it's ID3 tag)?

Short version:
When viewing ".mp3" files in a "Tags" window, the information in the "name" column next to the file defaults to the information in the "song" field in the file's ID3 tag.
Is it possible to change have the "name" column display the actual FILE NAME instead?
I did some research and found nothing.
Long version
Let's say I have a ".mp3" file named "Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me.mp3"
When I open the folder this ".mp3" is in and find the file, the "name" column will read "Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me.mp3" (of course)
Now, I tag the file "jams"
Now I go to my "jams" tag view everything tagged "jams", the "name" column in that window DOES NOT say
"Todd Rundgren - Hello It's Me.mp3" , but instead just "Hello It's Me"
The finder seems to be pulling this information from the "name" field of the ".mp3" ID3 tag metadata (aka, the information that would be written in the "name" column when viewing the file in iTunes.)
Ok, that's fine Mavericks, but I want to see the ACTUAL FILE NAME of my ".mp3", (which "tags" windows seems to do for most other things [documents, folders])
Q: Is it possible to display the filename of a ".mp3" file when viewing a "tag window?"
Tags are super useful, but this inconsistency makes it inefficient, distracting, and confusing to move freely between the window for a given "tag", and a normal "finder" window.

I think you have to avoid editing inside the tags list with the 'metadata names'. Instead right click an item, select 'Open enclosing folder'.
In 'real folders' you can enable the 'Title' in column via the 'Veiw Menu > show columns', that way you can see the file name & ID3/ EXIF titles.
'Fake folders' (smart searches & the recent tags list) don't feel finished yet IMO.

Well, if simply double-clicking the .bbb file doesn't work, first try dragging the file onto the BBDM icon (either in the Dock, on the desktop or in the Applications folder or wherever it's stored). That tells Finder to open it with that application.
Otherwise, right-click on the file and choose the Open With option. If BBDM is not the default, select Get Info and use the Open with box from there to select it (if it's not in the list, choose 'other' and navigate to it), then click the 'change all' button.

Cannot view avi files

QT support .mov better, but not .avi. Besides to use another player, you can try to do a simple conversion with the video converter. It's kind of the tool to convert .avi to .mov for QuickTime, for the occasion that you need QT to edit your videos.

I am trying to import in a TV show that i have downloaded as an avi file into iTunes. However when i try to import it nothing happens, if i try and change the file format into a mp4 it wont recognize it. Does anyone have any ideas?
I can not find it in any other file format anywhere online.

Export the OMF from an audio app like ProTools or Logic as a stereo pair AIFF, then use that with your video. Chop it up if you need to checkerboard.
Of course this will only work if the audio is very simple - overlapping audio will mess you up. If you can figure out the audio app part, you can split up your OMF into separate tracks.
But then if you can't get it into an audio app, you're a bit hosed.

Hi,
iTunes and the iPod will only play mp4 files. You will need to convert the .avi files to this format in order to play them.
You can do this by opening them in Quicktime (if you have Quicktime Pro) and choosing File/Export/Movie to iPod.

How do i import a .avi file into itunes

i am trying to import videos i've taken on my digital camera (canon powershot sd400) onto my ipod.
problem i'm encountering is when i try and import the .avi file into itunes, it says that "the file cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file."

Out of memory error to view AVI files

Hi everyone,
I've imported 6 AVI files from the same source into the browser. All work fine except for 2 of them. When I click on those files in the browser to preview them in the viewer, I receive 2 messages: the first one is 'general error', the second 'out of memory'. What strikes me is that in the browser, the duration marks 0 although the files are respectively 4MB and 1,6MB. I've compared them to the 4 others and they are similar. Any idea would be welcome. Many thanks in advance.

AVI files don't work with FCP. FCP is based in Quicktime. You will need to convert all you AVI files to an quicktime editing codec like ProRes or DV-NTSC You can find a list of editing codecs in FCP's Easy Setup. You can use Compressor to convert the files.

View Avi files in Apple Tv 2

I have just bought a Apple TV2, and when I tried to view some AVI files / movies on it, I couldn't since iTunes appears not to recognize it.
What am I doing wrong?
All I can see on Apple TV must be puted in iTunes? If I produce my own video I must share it on iTunes to see on TV?

The Apple TV doesn't support AVI. Don't create your own videos in AVI, it is an old and outdated format, that even it's creators (M$) dropped 15 years ago.

i have some .avi files that i would like to convert to a format that can be viewed on the iphone. there were several applications from the windows world that i used to use, and i know there must be for some for osx too. any recommendations?
