Is it possible to wireless connect 2 routers?

Hello, I have the WRT54GS wireless router and it works fine. It is installed upstairs in a family room.
Now, I want to install downstairs a LAN device (Squeezebox) which doesn't work wireless.
I know I can throw a cat5 cable from the WRT54GS router to another router or switch downstairs and connect the Squeezebox to one of the LAN ports. But is there a possible way to connect the routers wirelessly?
Basically I want to extend my network, but have the capability of using lan ports not only wireless.
Is that possible?
Thanks!
Martin

sorry, wireless communication between 2 routers is not possible. Not way to configure them to do so either . Best thing will be to pull a cable and hook them physically.

  • Is it possible to wireless connect my macbook air to my tv?

I have a 13 inch 128gb macbook air with the latest mavericks (10.9.1) and a VIZIO 42” Class LED Smart TV E-Series. Is it possible to wireless connect them so i can see my macbook air's screen on my tv? or do i have to get a hdmi to thunderbolt cable?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You can only connect your MacBook Air to your TV wirelessly if you have got an Apple TV. AirPlay Mirroring allows you to mirror your MacBook Air display onto your Apple TV.
If you have not got one, you need to connect your Mac through a cable. If your TV has got a HDMI port, get a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable. See > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4241?viewlocale=en_US

  • Wirelessly Connecting Routers

I'm not sure if this has been covered in a previous thread but I've been wondering about this for a while. I have two wireless routers, a WRT54G V.5 and a BEFW11S4 V.2. I'd like to connect them wirelessly as, right now, they are connected by a really long ethernet line. Would it be possible and what are the caveats?

you can't actually do it.. since the wrt54g or the befw11s4 are both wireless routers they only act as wireless transmitter... they don't have capabilities to act as a repeater...

I have two wireless dsl routers.  Router A is connected to the internet, Router B is acting as a local wireless/wired LAN hub.  The wireless clients cannot connect to both of these routers simultaneously, so I bought a linksys WET200 to act as a bridge between the two wireless networks.  I have connected the WET200 to  Router A via a wired connection, and have bridged to router B wirelssly.  However I am not able to route internet traffic over this connection. Am I trying to do something that is not possible?

OK, so a wire the bridge to router B. Do I tell router B that the gateway for all non-local trafffic is the bridge IP, or the IP of router A? currently A is on 192.168.1.1, bridge is default 192.168.1.226 and router b is 192.168.1.250. Router b provides dhcp for the clients in range 100-150, and I have some static ips in 151-200. problem is no-one can ping 192.168.1.1

  • Music streaming not possible over encrypted wireless connection

    Hi,
    I have two AE bases,
the first is used for wireless connection to the wired network and the internet
the second is connected to the hifi system and has been configured as a client in the network defined by the first one.
The problem is that the moment I use encryption no music streaming will be possible any more. Is this a feature? or a bug? or did I miss anything?
    Thanks,
    Andre

If you are going to implement encrytion (like WPA) on a wireless network that has previously been unsecured - make sure you enable it on the client first, and on the base station second. If you do it the other way around you will lose access to the client and you will no longer be able to make the required configuration changes so that its settings match that of the base station.

  • Limit wireless connection to one connection only. Is that possible?

    Hi,
Is it possible to limit wireless connection to allow only one computer to connect to wireless?
    Thank you.

Yes. Secure your connection with WPA or WPA2. Provide the passphrase or pass key to that computer only. That should do it.

  • E3000 routers wireless connections drop when gigabit hardwire is used

I have a very strange but repeatable problem with my E3000 wireless router.  I have multiple devices connected wirelessly such as and iPhone and 3 laptops.  I also have a couple of devices (dvd player and satellite receiver) connected hard wire.  The problem occurs when I  connect my laptop hardwire and uses gigabit speed.  All wireless connection stop working.  When I look in the router at the list of users it show all the wireless devices as being connected via the LAN and not wireless anymore.  When I unplug the gigabit hardwired connection and reboot the router all the wireless devices go back to normal and function correctly.  I am also using MAC security for the wireless devices so when I plug in the laptop hardwire it changes from wireless to LAN in the user client table.  Unfortunately all the other wireless devices do also.

You have 3 wireless laptops. The wireless connection stops working when you connect the laptop to the Ethernet port on the router.
Does this happen when you connect any laptop to the router or only with the specific laptop?
Disable the wireless network connection on your laptop and then connect the laptop to the router with the Ethernet cable.
    See if that works.

  • E3200 - Dropping wireless connection on the Mac

Pros: Gig Eth switch, no front-facing indicator lights, familiar web interface...
Cons: WiFi Protected Setup doesn't belong. Continually drops wireless connections to my Mac Book Pro (but none of my other devices), which worked just fine on the E3000 this unit replaced and works perfectly on other WiFi networks. REALLY SLOW web interface - average time to move from one page to the next is something north of 9 seconds. Again, never a problem with the E3000 that this unit replaced. Price? I wouldn't complain about price if this thing actually worked as expected.
Other Thoughts: I'm hoping it's just a flaky/defective unit and not indicative of the overall quality of newer Linksys products. Firmware isn't the issue - it's running the latest one from Linksys' site.

First of all please verify that you have got a 802.11n card in your computer. New generation routers (i.e. E3200) speaks an entirely different language with 802.11g cards, so while those adapters can work with the E3200, but they are not optimized to provide good performance. It is like having to translate from one language to another in real time when going from N to G.
Well, there are few things you should keep in mind with regards to N routers:
    1) For the best possible speeds, you need to be using WPA2-AES as your security mode. Any other security mode will see your speed/range capped.
Any G devices in your wireless network will tend to hamper the performance of your overall network.
Ensure that your router is running the latest firmware from homesupport.cisco.com The new firmware includes performance enhancements and fixes.
The router by default uses a channel setting of auto, which means that it would keep switching channels depending on the interference. I’d recommend you set it to a fixed channel. Usually, 1, 3, 6 and 9 give you the best performance depending on your environment of course. I’d suggest you try different channels, observing each for a while, to see which gives you the best performance. You can follow the link here on how to change channels.

  • Intermittent Wireless Connection, Dropping Wireless Connection

I am asking this in hopes of finding at least some way to diagnose my problem and hopefully eventually solving it. My wireless connection currently drops at varying amounts of time. Sometimes I can go 20mins others merely 5mins. The Airport reads that I am still connected and have a strong connection but when I try to navigate to a page with the browser (either firefox or safari) it merely times out after trying to load the page for up to a few minutes. I have changed the channel and frequency of my router (first router I tried was a Trendnet TEW-432BRP) and I have no cordless phones or other possible wireless obstructions. (I do have a very very infrequently used microwave but being that it's on the other side of the house and I can be sitting next to the router I doubt this is the culprit)
Then I tried changing routers to a Belkin N1 Vision router. Same issues. Additionaly worth noting all other PC's and linux machines on my network (about 4-5 other computers) all work just fine with out dropping their connections (with both routers).
Then I brought my original machine (a white macbook less than a year old) into the apple store, thinking at this point it was a hardware problem with my machine. They the replaced the airport card twice and the logicboard once. Eventually decideing that they should just replace the whole machine. Now with my new unibody I thought I had finally illeviated the problem but now I am having the same issues with an intermittent connection again.
If I turn off the Airport card and turn it back on again usually it will reconnect and allow me to browse again. But not always. The odd part is that generally when using another program that accesses the net the connection does not seem to be interrupted (such as with bit torrent). Very odd.
Anyway I tried using my computer at a friends house with the same trendnet router (his router but same model) and still the connection issues persist. Any ideas on what I can do or try to at least even begin to understand why this is happening would be helpful. I want very much to get to the bottom of this. Thanks for your help.

You didn't get the Apple Store to replace a white MacBook with a unibody?!
Anyhow - the connection problems could easily relate to an incompatibility between OS X and the router in question. Or it could simply be a setting on the router that isn't working well. To assist in the diagnosis... can you please supply:
    1) The security mode of the router? (WEP or WPA/WPA2 and AES or TKIP).
    2) The network mode (G/N)?
    3) The signal strength as reported by Airport (RSSI)
You can get most of this information (all except the security mode) by holding the option key down whilst clicking on the Airport icon in Finder. For the security setting you can go to your routers configuration screen (or you can get it from the command line).
    Cheers,
    Rodney

  • Wireless connection between D-Link WiFi router and Time capsule stopped working

We have an ISP provided D-Link wireless router (DIR-615) to which we wirelessly connected our 2Tb Time Capsule for back up and to connect a USB printer to out network. This worked perfectly for 3 1/2 years, until about a month ago, when the time capsule suddenly decided to go "off line". ie we could no longer access it or the printer via our wireless network. We had changed nothing - just one day it stopped working.
We tried to get it back online with no success. As the 2Tb Time Capsule was almost 7 years old and had had some HDD issues in the passed, we figured it had got old and died and that it was time to replace it; so we bought a new 3Tb Time Capsule, thinking this would get everything back to normal.
However much as we tried, we were also unable to get the new 3Tb Time Capsule to connect wirelessly to the D-Link wireless router. The Airport Utility did not show the D-Link wireless router or its wireless network, although we were (and are) able to see it in Systems Preferences>Networks from all our multiple devises. This in itself seemed odd. No matter what we tried, the Airport Utility would not find the D-Link wireless router and hence we could not add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the existing wireless network.
At the end of the day we got fed up with trying to add the 3Tb Time Capsule to the D-Link wireless network, and connected it via a LAN cable to the D-Link router instead. We then set it up as its own network. Worked gerat. Having done that we thought maybe the old 2Tb Time Capsule might not have been the problem after all, so we tried extending our new 3Tb Time Capsule wireless network using the 2Tb Time Capsule wirelessly. This worked perfectly! And we are now almost back to what we wanted.
So although we have a work around, this means now have 2 separate wireless networks as opposed to the original single wireless network where everything talked to everything else.
Can anyone shed any light on any of the following:-
    1. Why the original wireless network connection between the D-Link router and the 2Tb Time Capsule just stopped working? Was there some software change from Apple that "decided" D-Link wireless routers were no longer secure; and therefore the TCs could no longer connect to them?
    2. Why it was not possible to extend the existing D-Link wireless network using the the new 3Tb Time Capsule?
    3. Is there is anyway that we can get back to a single wireless network based around the D-Link wireless router as the primary router connecting to the modem, where the 2 Time Capsules connect as "wireless satellite base stations"?

A firmware update to the TC came along and you agreed to it without perhaps even noticing.. it then smashed your setup because Apple do not recommend the setup you were using and it is very poor.
    2. Why it was not possible to extend the existing D-Link wireless network using the the new 3Tb Time Capsule?
Because it is such a poor setup that Apple have taken away your ability to choose it unless you know exactly what you are doing.
    3. Is there is anyway that we can get back to a single wireless network based around the D-Link wireless router as the primary router connecting to the modem, where the 2 Time Capsules connect as "wireless satellite base stations"?
Yes, this I can help you with.
I have several ways around the problem.. but the first one is.. why use the DIR-615 at all.. it is not a modem.. it is a very ordinary bottom end, poor single band slow wireless router.
Why don't you simply remove the DIR-615 from the network completely.. plug whatever it is the ISP supplies you.. an ethernet connection from whatever that modem is you mentioned into the WAN port of the Time Capsule. And use the TC in some router mode.. same as the DIR-615 was setup.. dhcp or pppoe or whatever.. I doubt the TC cannot match it.
If you have issues please post a few screenshots from the DIR-615 to show how it is setup from the WAN side.. and as long as you are given the username and password or whatever the ISP uses to authenticate then chuck out the DIR-615.
Tell me if that is a goer.. if not we can work out a few other methods..
eg. Simply turn off the wireless in the DIR-615. It is poor cf the TC and there is no need for it.. with the TC in bridge only use the TC for wireless as well as wireless extend with your old TC.
Or setup roaming network where everything uses the same SSID.
Then you will have one wireless network. And it won't matter what as long as it connects.. although IMHO this is not right as the TC is such a superior router now you are wasting your new TC.

  • Wireless connectivity on PC boot up

I’m getting wireless connectivity problems between my PC and the BTHub3.
After booting the computer I find I have no connectivity at all. The message I receive when attempting to manually connect is ‘The settings saved on this computer for the network do not match the requirements of the network’
This hasn’t always been the case. The issue seems to have started within the last month. Normally connectivity would be made almost instantly. Frustratingly, I can instantly connect to other (unsecured) BT networks in the neighbourhood. Other local networks (secured and unsecured) even appear to have a stronger signal than that from my router, if the number of bars are to be believed.
I am using a Linksys wireless adapter. Settings for security are WPA2 Personal and Encryption type AES.
    I have systematically tried
    -          deleting and recreating profiles
    -          re-entering passwords
    -          rebooting the Hub
    -          rebooting the PC
    -          changing channels
    -          changing the BT hub ( new hub, vanilla settings)
Nothing appears to make an impact. If I wait anything between half an hour to an hour eventually everything connects even if I have not touched a single setting. Usually I sit playing solitaire until I connect. So Settings appear to be an issue initially but this issue goes away ???
Initially I believed it was a PC/PC adapter issue. But I took a look at the connectivity on my Blackberry and also my Kindle – same issue. So I now believe that something is not set correctly in the router (or unbelievably two routers have failed).
But where to look – Suggestions?

If it supports PPPoE, and has a WAN port, or the facility to map one ot its LAN ports, then you could use it.
It may also be possible to use the device as a wireless access port.
I am moving this to the Infinity board, as you have an Infinity and not an ADSL connection.

  • Wireless connection to internet with mac pro tower and airport extreme base station?

Hi, I have an airport extreme base station and a mac pro tower without a airport card. My internet wireless router is a great distance from my computer so I can't connect the base station directly to the router. I've attached the airport extreme base station to the tower via an ethernet cable, the base station seems to be wirelessly connected to the home network but the browser is showing "not connected".
    Please help.
    Thanks

Shouldn't the Airport base station be able to connect to it wirelessly?
It might be possible, but the Ethernet ports on the AirPort Extreme would not be enabled, even if it did connect to the Thompson' WiFi signal.
As Tesserax notes, among the Apple routers, only the 802.11n versions of the AirPort Express have the capability to "join" a wireless network with the Ethernet port being enabled.

  • Extremely Poor Wireless Connection with Macbook 1,1

    Hi,
I've been trying to solve internet connection issues for a friends Macbook and I'm getting rather frustrated.
I'm using a White Macbook 1,1 and I've found that the wireless connection on it is extremely temperamental. The connection works perfectly with the cable so it's not my internet connection, and my wireless hub works fine with all other laptops that have connected to it.
So, the issue is the connection is extremely intermittent. It connects to my hub absolutely fine, but when surfing the connection becomes unreliable. Say you wish to go to a website then a quarter of the time it'll connect and download everything fine and quickly, the other 3/4 of the time it'll get stuck somewhere in the process. It normally gets past the DNS fine, and connects to the server and then sits there and waits for a response indefinitely.
I have searched the web and found numerous solutions involving changing wireless channels and modes which I have tried every possible combination of. I have ensured it's not a DNS issue. I tried all combinations of any super-speed mode and extended range features on my router (including everything off of course). I have tried it on other routers and internet connections, and ensured it's using the latest firmware. I have disabled any IPv6 modes on both router and laptop. I have altered positioning of my router to be in better positions/much closer to the laptop, to the extent where there is only a few inches between laptop and hub. None of this has helped.
There has been one tiny glimmer of hope and that was me upgrading the amount of memory in the machine from half a gig to 2 gig and a much larger hard drive and this has helped a little. Now it only fails 75% of the time instead of 99% of the time.
Can anyone help? Is there anyone experiencing the same issues? Is there any updated driver for the AirPort out there that may work better?
Please help, this is driving me up the wall. My router is a WGT624 v3 if that helps although I really don't think that is the issue as it happens with all connections.
    Cheers, Dan

I had this same issue with my 1.1 MacBook about a year or so ago. I had AppleCare so it was fixed for free.
Turned out the wireless card was causing problems. Not sure if it was a bad connection or card, but replacing it has fixed the problem.
    Good Luck.
