Is it really worth upgrading nForce into nF2??

sigh... no it is not...
just reflecting that my poor nForce will be considered old and it didn't even have the chance to be a 1 year old....
oh the humanity! can't a poor motherboard get the chance to grow old gracefully? must we boot it out of the door before it even reached their prime??
Oh well, cest la vie.
ps: i was hoping that my nforce would miraculously transform into an nforce2 but i guess that won't be possible.
nvidia haven't thought them how to evolve yet
Markoul's Opinion: I believe, and despite what idea MSI likes to promote to the forum, that it is NOT worth the money unless you are desperate for a feature not in the original nForce. These are:
-Integrated GF4MX
- Support of new line of AthlonXP processors T/bred B' (166MHz FSB) thus AthlonXP 2700+(2.15GHz) and 2800+
(2.24GHz)
-PC3200 (400MHz) DDR Memory Support (up to 3Gigs)
-Firewire support
-USB 2.0 support
-ATA 133
-AGP X8
-dual NIC's and router, additional to the integrated in the chipset nVidia NIC there is now also possible the use of a second  NIC depending on the board manufacturer working simultaneously via an integrated router.
-Lastly, depending on the board manufacturer, the possibility of 6 on-board analog Audio outputs (no need for a CNR) or/and an optical SPIDIF(?)
That's all it really is. So if you still can not hold your horses then be my guest and GO ON spend your beans in upgrading your very aged out nForce :P (not even a year long) into a new miraculous nForce2 which assuming you will not upgrade CPU, will give you a whole 10% boost maximum in real life applications....WOW!! :P  :P ...i am impressed.
Nevertheless, not to be misunderstood, for the rest of the people (not already owning a nForce) nForce 2 is the ultimate Athlon CPU platform so far and the best upgrade someone can possible do. Especially for VIA guys :D
......I never in my life upgraded h/w within a year and possible never will. Never, really a Geek and always like to get my money back with time. Not really a consuming freak....sorry :P
So, i am not convinced upgrading nForce into nForce2, any different opinions are most welcome.
Markoul

hi all,
thanks for the comments.
Yup markoul, you're right and definitely have no plans to purchase an nForce2 as i'm still satisfied with my current one and the only weak link now is the int. GF2MX vid card.
Most of my friends are complaining that i'm underutilising my cpu anyway.... and i'm a guy who just upg. my pc for the first time in 5 years (yes, i was on a pentium based machine) so u could say i'm a slow tech adopter.
However i usually go for the std base platform at the time and i thought nforce will give me the best bang for the buck as it comes with int. GF2mx as i don't want to invest so soon on an external card yet with all the goodies on the horizon though most ppl don't understand why i stuck with this nforce.
I'm setting my eyes on the next 'evolution' and that's the clawhammer and if they are going to delay it, then by all means... better late with solid support rather than a finicky system.
Here's my wishlist:
1) an self-evolving system... hehe.. a system that gets better each time u use it..
2) vid cards that are socketed so u could change the VPU/GPU like mobos & cpus ... that'll be interesting but i think we'll need the vid card market to mature in size like the cpu market

  • Upgrading to 2G, Is it really worth it?

I have the 1st generation iphone and wanted to upgrade to the 2.0 firmware but i have been reading all the problems you guys have been dealing with after upgrading. So it it really worth. I am really thinking about getting a blackberry. I have been doing some research on blackberries and most of their models do everything and more that the iphone 3g does. Has anyone ever had a blackberry and could tell me any problems they had with using one? Thank You and good luck to you guys that are having problems.

2.0 applications are nice, I also noticed the battery draining faster, however I have been using the poker game alot and IM. just turned push off as others suggested.I guess if you just want a phone for calls, and you cant charge in your car or elsewhere you might not update the software. My phone is over a year old (day one) and the battery is losing its edge a bit?

  • Any way of going back to io7 from io8, nothing works anymore. £500 plus worth of music apps not functioning anymore, is it really worth investing any more  time or money into this product? what a joke it is.

Is there any way of going back to io7 from io8?
Nothing works anymore. £500 plus worth of music apps and hardware not functioning, Apps that I have paid for disappearing from the store after a reset. is it really worth investing any more time or money into this product? what a joke it is becoming. This is worse than windows vista.
Can anyone from Apple help me with this? thought not. You don't allow reverting back to earlier io versions for some strange reason. Have you forgot that we are the customer?

Sorry, Apple does not support downgrading.
As to apps disappearing, it's not uncommon for apps to be removed from the app store. I have a couple of games that I play that are no longer available.
Did you install 8 'over the air'? If so, research into doing a restore. Use a computer to back up your device and then reinstall iOS8 via a computer, and then restore your data from the backup. Sometimes a clean install clears away glitches caused by over the air installs.
If you just wish to express your frustration to apple, on the lower right corner of this page is a 'contact us' link. Send them feedback and let them know.

  • Is The iPhone 5 Really Worth It?

Hopefully I do not get bombarded by hardcore Apple fans but is the iPhone 5 really worth it. I used to have the iPhone 4S, but upgraded it to a Samsung Galaxy S3 and here is what I think of the iPhone 5. With phones like the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, and the Nokia Lumia 920, I find it hard for the iPhone to win but some people are just brainwashed in Apple's company. The phone is like a iPod Touch 5G but the difference is that you can talk and text but with apps like Free SMS, in theory the only difference is the talk. iMean it is the same thing every year of realease, new hardware and design and new look, but the same interface. Personally I think that the 2 Samsungs and the Nokia are better phones but because of the people who don't realise Apple's products are the same every year one will sell more but it is not about how much it sells, it is about the overall phone. They even rip us off by changing the slot smaller so we have to pay EXTRA to get a converter or get a new dock. Anyway, any thoughts on this?

That's why there is choice in the marketplace - you buy whatever suits your needs/preferences best.
If you want to waste time learning where everything is in constantly changing interfaces every year, then that's your choice.
Many people like familiarity, and don't have time or inclination to re-learn how to use a phone every few months.
it is the same thing every year of realease, new hardware and design and new look
Huh? Either it is the same, or it is new - it can't be both.

  • Adobe CS6 not available for OS Leopard. Worth upgrading?

I love OS Leopard (I'm 10.8) and I love Spaces, something which I think vanishes with higher OSes—though maybe only Lion.
I'm very much interested in getting CS6 when it's released, and wouldn't mind trying the beta, but it's for 10.6.8 and above. Is OS Leopard really worth dumping just to use the latest and greatest Adobe software?
Tbh, I'm disappointed that OS 10.5 is being forgotten so soon. It was only a matter of time, I suppose. I just like being stable for years, not always upgrading and re-learning new OSes.

I think you mean 10.5.8.  10.8 isn't out yet. As for CS6, not being out yet, we can't comment on whether something is worth it.  While betas are still out there, they are subject to feedback from their testers.  If you want a beta when it is finalized to become available for older operating systems or older machines, contact the vendor of that beta and say so in their feedback page.

  • Is it worth upgrading to CS4?

I have used Photoshop CS2 for a few years now and want to find out from someone who has CS4 if it is worth upgrading to it from CS2.
I mainly use it for simple tasks like banners for my store.
We don't do a lot of fancy stuff as I am not really a professional.
I guess the question is: Will CS4 make life easier for a begginer or is it pretty much the same thing?
    Thanks in advance.

Considering the type and volume of work You imply to be doing You may not be able to take a lot of advantage from CS4’s improvements: Canvas-rotation, improved 3D-features, Content-Aware Scale, non modal Adjustment dialogs (actually an irritant to some – me for example), etc. and last but not least Configurator.
In my opinion Photoshop CS4 is a »better thing« than CS2, but the expense may not be justified for You yet.
Moreover it seems to be widely expected that CS5 be published in 2010, so You might want to wait for that as upgrades are – if I’m not mistaken – possible for three versions.

  • Is the apple router really worth it?

it is time to upgrade my router. I have an older linksys 802llb. Originally I had my heart set on going all apple but at almost $200 vs about $50 for a non apple version I am wondering if it makes a difference and if the apple router is worth the more $$$ and why.

    sseligson wrote:

    Yes.
    or
    No.
Depends on your personal needs and perspectives.
Personally I love the style and ease of configuration of the Apple base stations.
However non-Apple routers are relatively easy to configure as well.
Printing and sharing hard drives certainly adds value to the 802.11n Airport Extreme, whilst AirTunes is a nice feature on the Airport Express.
In the end only you can decide.
Question, did you buy the cheapest computer you could buy, or were there other factors which influenced your purchasing decision?

  • Is a nforce4 mobo really worth it?

    My specs are as follows:
    athlon fx-55 processor
2x74g raptors raid 0 hard drives
    1gb (512x2) OCZ el rev 2 ram
    K8N Neo2 Nforce3 Motherboard

Is getting a Nforce4 mobo and buying another video card really worth it for me?  If yes, how much of a improvement will I see?

I have mine unlocked a little a normal 6800 is 12x 1, 5vp and i have 12x1,6vp i unlock the extra pixel shader, i tried the extra 4 pipes but they are damaged i can run normal operations fine but the minute i play a game or run a bench the card locks up.  Thats why they sold the card as a 6800 it couldn't run ultra specs
I got lucky... I was able to enable all "hidden" hardware on my BFG 6800OC. It doesn't OC all that well but the enable HW more than makes up for it.
I agree with the others on the upgrade thing though - I've had my present rig for about 3 1/2 months & I don't see any good reason to go nf4 yet unless I just HAD $1K burning a hole in my pocket to go SLI...!
    Which I don't.

  • Is It Really Worth It

I have a new computer released right before Leopard came out. Is it really worth changing. What are the differences?

I second what Mevieth says. I would wait a few months for the bugs to be worked out. On the other hand, if it's your Powerbook you are planning to update, I spoke with a friend who loves the 'spaces' feature's ability to create multiple desktops for his powerbook . . . I have dual monitors on my G5 so it's not a big deal, but he loves it.
I upgraded due to the increased performance of OpenGL . . . for which my apps (After Effects in particular) have yet to catch up. So, if you have a specific reason to upgrade, double check and make sure it makes sense, and then upgrade if it does.
I probably should have waited. It would have saved me some stress.

  • Is mountain lion worth upgrading from lion

is mountain lion worth upgrading from lion

That is a question you really have to answer...go to http://www.apple.com/osx and check the features in ML...are they features that are important to YOU?  Do you want to text message from your computer?  Use the other features that are an integral part of iOS/  For me the huge factor is the added speed of ML...Safari for me is significantly faster...the whole system is faster.  I really like ML...but there are others on here who disagree.
Go through the features and see how important they are to you then decide.

  • New apple tv worth upgrade

I own the original Apple TV and am wondering if there is anything about the new one that makes it worth upgrading?

You have to look at them as different products with different purposes. If you fully used all the features of ATV1, then you would miss some things. If you only used the streaming functions of ATV1, then ATV2 is a very positive upgrade.
I have both. Had the ATV1 for a couple of years. I liked the ATV1 except for lacking Netflix and the VERY slow interface speed.
ATV2 is very quick, small, silent, and runs cool.
Having both an ATV1 and ATV2, I must admit that I am disappointed that the ATV2 cannot access the library on the ATV1, nor can the ATV1 stream to the ATV2 as an AirPlay Speaker. Seems like an oversight.
So the only way to play your iTunes library or photos over ATV2 is you MUST have a Mac/PC turned on at all times. When I pack up my Laptop and head to the office, my house, spouse and kids have no access to our family music library. Unless I hook up the ATV1 to the same main stereo system as the ATV2. Need both. ;-(

  • Read all the hype, but is Lion really worth getting unless you need to link up several devices???

Read all the hype, but is Lion really worth getting unless you need to link up several devices??  e.g. is it worthwhile for a standalone iMac??

There's a million places on the 'net where you can find opinons on that (have a look here, for example http://applehelpwriter.com/2011/08/01/os-x-lion-10-7-%E2%80%94-the-jurys-verdict / ) and at least several long running threads on this forum too dealing with various opinions.
As for me, I've reverted to Snow Leopard.

  • Yosemite is a really bad upgrade

Since installing Yosemite my daughter thinks that I have a new game  on the PC as the spinning beach ball appears to be a permanent feature.I truly wish I had not bothered

    It's a shuffle.
iPods don't have an OSX installed.
    Try here iPod shuffle
Next time try to start your own thread when your issue has nothing to do with that of the OP, and is considered laziness and a good way not to have your issues addressed. You now say that you are having issues with an iPod Shuffle and do not run Yosemite, yet you post in a thread with the title 'Yosemite Is A Really Bad Upgrade' where only one person answered the OP?
Try the link to the iPod Shuffle Forum as posted above.
