Is it Risky Buying Playbook with all of the problems that RIM is having?

The latest financial report from RIM is not a good one. With a loss of approximately 30% in sales, the question that begs to be answered is... How risky is it to purchase a Playbook that may not have a company supporting it one year from now? I have been researching tablets and the Playbook by far has received the most accolades of any tablet excluding the iPad. That being said, I decided that the Playbook is the device that best suits my business and personal needs. From its seamless document integration and powerful business tools to "the best" tablet browser on the market, IMHO- this is the best overall value in the tablet market today. But what is the real value of the device if a year from now RIM files bankruptcy protection and us users don't have anywhere to turn for support or a company backing its product? I would love to hear thoughts and comments from the community on this issue before i go out and purchase one Peace, Slider

I just bought a 64gb PB for $200 with 3 cases, HDMI adapter, and screen protector. . .My thoughts before trying it were that of 'this device must really suck to be so cheap'. . . however as soon as i turned it on i was pleasantly suprised, and have forever since been baffled as to why it doesnt have more hype. . .I dont think this product will die, I think its in a temporary low because of its intial lack of features... That is;
AppWorld was brand new so not many apps, and the look of the app world was appalling (looks a little better now, still needs improvement,.. plenty of apps though, dont see a need to complain about content).
Initial costs were over priced so gave people a negative spin on the device before they turned it on.
No email or contacts (i mean seriously, this is what a majority of people will turn their devices on each morning for, at least at my work thats what they use it for).
No 3G device option (you may not agree, but i see it as a way to know a product has been well developed and not just rushed out)
Anyway, I see it as the best tablet at the momment because:
Native hdmi out is just awesome, i have tried a few android devices and apples ipad2 and their output does not compare.
Video playback... it plays most formats, but if it doesnt then their is an app called moviewatch which converts any file type/size it a playable format (you can choose to save the new format file or just watch striaght away).. simply awsome, i converted a 6.5gb flv file and the sound to video sync worked perfectly, not to mention quality was right up there.. neither my galaxy tab 10.1 or my bro's ipad 2 could play this file.
Browser is leagues ahead of any android browser (Safari might be comparable, but still, Dolphin browser for all its good points is just not as smooth, slick and quick loading as PB's default).
It can sideload google apps.. however, as fun as this is, it has problems with apps that use bluetooth and wifi in the scripts (i believe?) and thus i think the apps with RSS feeds or inbuilt ads seem to stuff up a little. not to worry, most playbook built apps work better anyway - i actually wish they would separate the two types in the appworld so i can choose 'Apps that are awesome'  or  'Apps that have been given a quick convert from an inferior OS'
Lastly, similar to the point above, QNX is uncomparable to android, and iOS with all its grandure is still a fair bit behind
Hope this helps

Yes there is. Those songs are not actually on your iPad. They are in iCloud ready for download if you choose to do so. If you want to remove them go to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Show All>Music>Off. You can also do this in Settings>Music>Show All Music>Off.

  • What's with all of the squares of text that pop up?

I just bought my first mac in over 4 years. What is with all of the pop ups? I disabled the tool tips in Firefox, but I still get white boxes that pop up at the oddest times. What can I do to disable them? Some of them seem to be connected to Flash Player.
Thanks in advance for any help you can give me. They're driving me crazy! I'm running Lion.

Can you tell if these are generated by the browser (i.e. ads or browser-specific tooltips), or are they generated by the operating system or component, such as Java?
I unfortunately don't have an answer for you, but I am using Safari, and I get random Java po-up windows causing anything full-screen to jump back to normal view, etc.  If you're having the same issues as I am, then I'd be happy to get an answer as well.  I've updated to the latest OS release from Apple, updated my Java, flash, etc.  I'm still getting pop-up windows.  The windows, however, close by themselves.  They pop up for only a second or so, and then close.
    Same issue?

  • When I close my browser and reopen, it, all of the tabs that were previously open reopen, does not refresh and open with my home page opening.

when I close my browser and then reopen it, it does not go to the selected home page, but reopens with all of the previous tabs. reviewed the available knowledge based answers, but none seemed to fix problem. I'm not certain that I did everything correctly, but I believe I followed the directions properly. problem persists.

Assuming Firefox is set to start up with your home page, there are two common reasons for this:
    * You have a user.js file instructing Firefox to ignore your previously saved settings and restore the earlier session. See this article on tracking down and removing that file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    * Firefox is crashing, and doing an automatic crash recovery. As a diagnostic, you can change what Firefox does during a crash recovery, from automatically restoring to showing a list of windows and tabs from your previous session so you can pick and choose what to restore.
    ''To try the change:''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' preference and change the value from 1 to 0 and OK that.
    Hope that helps.

  • I saturated all the available iPad (3rd. generation) screen space (home screens or desktop space) with apps, and the apps that got bumped out of the last screen, mysteriously disappeared? Where are those missing quick lauch app icons?

Running my 3rd generation iPad on iOS 7.0.4, I saturated all the available iPad screen space (which would be the 15 home screens or desktop worth of space) with apps, and the apps that got bumped out of the last screen space mysteriously disappeared. Where are those missing quick lauch app icons now? The apps are still installed and can be searched/accessed through the finder, but they no longer have a user friendly access. How can I solve this problem?

Hi Hexonxonx, thanks for trying to help, but next time please read the entire discussion, in oder to better comprehend what is being asked. The reason being is that your answer added nothing to what had already been mentioned.
Like I said, I was aware it was possible to access the apps through the finder, but the question revolved around how to recover the quick launch app icons for certain vanished apps.
Wow, kind of a snotty response to someone who was taking their own time to offer help.  Whether you thought it was helpful or not, didn't deserve such an unkind retort.  Maybe when you realize we all just users here trying to help others like you, who have issues and we don't get anything in return for the countless hours some people here spend offering that assistance, you'll maybe be a little less quick to be critical.
    Just sayin.......
Oh and Meg offered the right answer.  Put your Apps in Folders, which will create extra space for the apps which have disappeared.

  • Opening a Finder window with all of the folders collapsed.

Is there a way to open a Finder window full of folders with all of the folders collapsed? OSX will remember the fact that you expanded a folder and if you open up a Finder window afterwards it will open with the same folder expanded meaning that you have to collapse it or navigate it.

With Finder on the Menu bar select File > New Finder Window, use the ⌘ N keys or right click Finder on the Dock and open a New Finder Window.

With all of the applications available, what other applications recommended to use along with Captivate 8.  I do not heed to install all of them, just what I need.

Personally I use both Photoshop and Audition (both in CC) a lot when using Captivate 8. There is roundtripping possible with those two Adobe applications. If you have a CC subscription try it out! And when needing HTML5 output, you can insert published Edge Animate files, to replace former Flash animations. As you can see in CP8, Edge Inspect can be used to test the output on mobile devices without having to publish or to deploy on a webserver.

Licensed?  Yes, but not necessarily for the web. Some licenses allow use in print or images but not the web.

For legal reasons, don't just assume you can use any font you wish on the web. Fonts are protected by intellectual property laws in much the same way that software is protected from unlawful copying, modifying or distributing. In other words, a font owner can say "Sure, you can use my font but you can't alter it, you can't reproduce it and you can't distribute it." On the web, that's a deal breaker because you need to be able to do all three.

  • When I create a new folder on the desktop of my macbook pro, it is automatically populated with all of the files on the desktop, which I don't want.

when I create a new folder on the desktop of my macbook pro, it is automatically populated with all of the files on the desktop, which I don't want.

I got the problem solved. It was pretty simple but new to me. I had evidently inadvertently switched the setting in the "View" tab on the dropdown menu so that all of my desktop folders were populated by all folders/documents residing on the desktop.
The solution was to open one of the folders, then go to the "View" tab and change the setting to "List." Presto, now all the folders include only the contents I had intentionally loaded into them.

  • WT* happened to the tab with all of the new music every Tuesday?!

I always looked forward to Tuesdays because I could see all of the new music that was released, with all of the genres all in one place. Why isn't that available anymore? The new store is just confusing and frustrating.

You can transfer the purchases you made on your old iPhone 3 by plugging it in to iTunes and doing File > Devices > Transfer Purchases from your IPhone to the iTunes on your computer.  This will get music you purchased in iTunes, apps, etc.  (e.g., movies).
But for the rest you would need to restore a backup of your newly deceased computer.

Somehow my iTunes app has been put into the trash.  How can I get this and all of the stuff that was in it back to my Application folder?  I try to drag it out of trash, but it won't work.

Also, when I do try to drag it out of the Trash to put it back into Applications (on the Finder sidebar), it asks me to authenticate with the administration password.  I enter it, and then a window appears saying that I can't do that because I do not have permission to modify iTunes.  Please help.
