Is it Risky to Customize DeskTop InnerPage???? Best Practices pls!!

Hi Friends,
I would like to know, Is it advicable to modify the Desktop inner page??? I mean by modify/customize in the sense of changing the layout.
Is there any best practice on customization of desktop inner page?
If we want to customize/modify the desktop innerpage, It would be enough to work on a Copy - Delta Linked desktop innerpage rt? OR do i need to take the non-delta link desktop innerpage to work on it?
Please advice me with any best practices on the customization/modification of Desktop Inner Page.
Thanks in advance for your time!!!
- Raghavendra Pothula

Hi Raghvendra,
There is no harm in modifying the desktop inner page.
We have customized the desktop inner page according to our needs with a new layout. Make sure you make a copy of the original and not a "delta link". In the copied desktop make the changes that you want e.g. customized layout, change in detailed nav etc etc and then assign this desktop to the framework page.
There is a best practice guide for portal branding but this deos not talk about desktop inner pages.

  • Ibook to desktop syncing best practices

    trying to keep my ibook in sync with my g5 desktop. Client projects in addition to the entourage data files, etc.. I've come across numerous scenarios and recommendations. Anyone with any best practice suggestions, ie: software, syncing scenarios, automation, etc., would be greatly appreciated.

    Hello Hugh
    The settings that you are looking for are in Itunes. you can choose to sync only unlistened podcasts.
    If you go to the podcast section in itunes, there is a filed that says keep and you can choose from the following options:
    All episodes
    All unplayed episodes
    Most Recent episode
    Then when you connect your ipod you will then see an optionto only sync the unlistened podcasts and you should be all set.

  • BPM Workspace Customization & User Interface: Best Practice Question

    Hi All,
    This is our first BPM Project in house and we are on Oracle BPM 11g.
    The business process involves request for approval for a permit from a public user and internal users need to approve/reject the same. Pretty simple and straightforward so far.
    But we are now having lots of questions wrt to user interface.
    1. Work Space Changes.
    If we develop this application completely in Oracle BPM, the outside user (general public) will also see the 'workspace' with its current interface. It would be impossible to handle user training on this interface for a simple Joe Bloe, who may not be computer savvy) So the requirement documents demand that the look and feel of the outside users should be totally different than what the workspace provides. They want this to be customized in such a way that iit would strip all of the default lay out (left navigation bar, and get rid of the upper section completely. with its list of tabs) and also to modify the task list that appears below).
    We have figured out how to achieve this (by modifying the workspace .jar files and recompiling the same), but is this a good approach? What happens if we are developing a brand new application on the BPM in our shop? This change will affect that application as well, as the workspace is shared and common to all the apps? I want some of you experts to let us know, your thoughts on this. If this is not a recommended practice, what would be best way to achieve what we want using Oracle BPM? (Where we want a simple intuitive user interface, without the default add ons that comes with the work space)...
    2. What would be the best method to create a user registration page (where a user creates his own login and password and maintains his account) for an application using the BPM ? Right now we are thinking this should be in either a ADF page/ JSP page or (worst case a PL SQL cartridge) that can be launched on the browser, which will be open and does not require any kind of authentication to access. Is this a good practice or recommended one? Or are we missing out on something within BPM application itself, that we are not aware of and that would let us do this?
    3. Also, if we go with an external ADF application for the 'public' user interface developement, then how can we (or can we) leverage the BPM's internal storage for the submitted data from the payload? I understand that it stores this information currently on the server 'soa infra' tables some where? Thru an external ADF app, can we write into these tables (Is this recommended or just sounds plain ridiculous)???
    Knowing answers to these questions will help us decide, if this is the right tool for the job at hand.
    Appreciate your time and xpertise.
    Thanks

  • Looking for Some Examples / Best Practices on User Profile Customization in RDS 2012 R2

    We're currently running RDS on Windows 2008 R2. We're controlling user's Desktops largely with Group Policy. We're using Folder Redirection to configure their Start Menus as well.
    We've installed a Server 2012 R2 RDS box and all the applications that users will need. Should we follow the same customization steps for 2012 R2 that we used in 2012 R2? I would love to see some articles on someone who has customized a user profile/Desktop
    in 2012 R2 to see what's possible.

  • Removal of additional scrollbars in the Desktop Innerpage and Content Area.

    i have kept the Isolation method as Pumped Deprecated and Height type as fixed in the Inner Page. And on adjusting the fixed height in Pixels on one of the 3 vertical scrollbars of Inner Page are removed ; still one additional vertical scrollbar is visible in the Content Area.

    Well, it is starting to make sense...
    Here is the code that seems responsible for the resizing (I guess this is called when the FULL-PAGE option is set on the Desktop Innerpage)
    workArea.resizeIframe = function() {
        obj = document.getElementById("isolatedWorkArea");
        var dif = 3;
        if (document.getElementById("fullPageDiv") != null) {
            dif += 9;
        if (EPCM.getUAType() == EPCM.MSIE) {
            obj.style.pixelHeight = document.body.clientHeight - dif;
        } else {
            if (EPCM.getUAVersion() < 7) obj.style.height = window.innerHeight - dif - 6;
            else obj.style.height = window.innerHeight - dif
    As you can see, the isolatedWorkArea is retrieved and the height of the iframe (obj.style.height) is set.
    The problem is that the isolatedWorkArea (which is the Id of an iframe) only contains the Content Area iView whereas one would have expected that it contains all the iViews in the Work Area section.
    Here is the resulting generated HTML code (a bit simplified to emphasize the structure) :
    <div id="desk_div">
      <table>
         <tr>
            <td>
            My Component
            </td>
          </tr>
         <tr>
            <td>
              <iframe id="isolatedWorkArea">
              The content of the iframe is here
              </iframe>
              <s cript>workArea.resizeIframe(); ...
              </s cript>
            </td>
          </tr>
    </div>
    As you can see the script only acts on the iframe...
    Or am I missing something ??
    Best regards,
    Guillaume

  • Customization approach as per best practice for SharePoint Online

    Hi All,
    I am working for a customer for customization on SharePoint Online. I need to create following customization.
    For each department one site collection is required to be created. There will be 15 site collections.
    Each site collection will have couple of team sites.
    Each team will have couple of document libraries and customer list.
    Custom lists and document libraries will have custom views.
    MaterPage and Layout will be customized to apply the UI Branding.
    Customer wants that configuration management should be as per the Microsoft best practice. I am wondering what the approach I should use is.
    Should I create visual studio solution, but since there are 15 different site collections are required to be created I believe sandboxed solution will not be feasible sine sandboxed solution are scoped with site collection.
    I also believe if I do create visual studio solution that development efforts will be extensive.
    I am not sure whether it is feasible, use the SharePoint Designer to apply this customization but I am confused in this case. If it is possible then how I will promote the customization to production.
    I am also confused in case SharePoint online how I will keep production and development environment separate? What is the best practice around it?

    Hi,
    You can create Custom Master page using SharePoint Designer. And for first four points from creating Sitecollection to creating views you can create a hierarchy of objects in site using csv file and then create Powershell script to create sitecollection,
    team site, list/libraries and view by reading csv files.

  • How to remove tooltip 'Desktop Innerpage' from portal?

    Hello,
    I am seeing a tooltip called 'Desktop Innerpage' in the portal content area on the blankscreen before my CRM weshop application gets loaded.
    Can someone please help getting rid of this tooltip?
    I couldn't see any option in Default Framework Page for removing the tooltip .
    Awaiting Reply!
    Thanks,
    Smita Thorat

    Hi,
    can you share the name or ID of the tooltip property? I don't see this property in my framework page (light & default).
    Another way to get rid of the tooltip message is to overwrite it with Javascript:
    document.getElementById("mememe").title = "";

  • Location of Desktop Innerpage in PCD

    Hi there,
    we are running an EP60 SP16 portal and creating a whole new Portal Desktop with new Default Frameworkpage and Desktop Innerpage.
    For starters I looked at the Default Frameworkpage located in
    pcd:portal_content/com.sap.pct/every_user/general/com.sap.portal.frameworkpage
    Where exactly <i>is</i> the Desktop Innerpage located in the Portal Content Directory, as well as all the iViews contained in the Desktop Innerpage? Already users the search on 'Name' and 'ID' in the PCD search, but can not find any of them.
    Many thanks,
    Kevin

    Hi Kevin,
    I have the same problem, as described in my post: Displaying login form at home page (SDN style)
    As per URL sent by Jagadeep, I think we can't make a copy/paste from innerpage:
    "(...)Page: Desktop Innerpage(com.sap.portal.innerpage)
    This object is a portal page embedded in the main Default Framework Page page.(...)"
    Please let me know if you have any advance.

  • OBIA repository customization best practices

    Hello experts,
    I have what I believe to be a very simple question but it's one that I can not find a clear answer to. I'm looking to use OBIA 7.9.6.3 prebuilt data models for Financials, Supply Chain, and Order Management. My business would prefer the following customizations to the repository:
    -BMM column name changes
    -BMM description changes
    -BMM logical hierarchy (drill down) changes
    What are the best practices for achieving these changes to be sure that a future upgrade to OBIA will not overwrite my changes?
