Is it safe for me to delete the files in the Effect Browser Thumbnails?

I try to keep track and clean up in my files, before I start up a new project in FCPX.
Can I safely occasionally delete the files in the Effect Browser Thumbnails, Render Files, Camera and Render Files folders?
It takes so much space after some time.

What software version are you using? This is the Final Cut Pro X forum, not Final Cut Studio, if that's what you're using.

I need to know how to search a file for text and delete the found text. I think grep will let you do this but not sure of the syntax.

   In addition to what Camelot and nobody loopback point out, one must also consider the fact that UNIX text tools are largely line based. You also fail to tell us for what kind of text you are searching. If you are looking for multiple words, there's a very good chance of finding the expression wrapped onto different lines. With hyphenation, even single words can wrap to multiple lines. Tools that search line-by-line will miss these unless you use multiline techniques.
   Multiline substitutions require that you write "read-ahead" code for the command line tool that you're using and that you take that into account in the substitution. Given how you want the results to be printed out, you may also want to preserve any newlines found in the match, which is even more difficult. That could bring up the subject of line endings but that's a completely different topic.
   I apologize if this sounds discouraging. Multiline searches aren't needed that often and in most of those cases, exceptions can be dealt with by hand. I just didn't want you to get surprised by it. To give you an idea of how easy basic substitution is, have a look at Tom Christiansen's Cultured Perl: One-liners 102 and One-liners 101. Both have some "in-place" substitution examples.

If Private Browsing doesn't do it, try Settings-Safari-Advanced-Website Data-Remove All Websitre Data.
Or changing Settings-Safari-Autofill to OFF.
You might also try Settings-Safari and Clear History and Clear Cookies and Data.
As you can see, there are several controls for Safari. Which one works depends on what your problem is.

How can I delete the iPhoto Video Thumbnails in iMovie?

It's been a while since I've used iMovie, and when I opened the application tonight, I got the following message:
"iMovie needs to generate thumbnails for the videos in your iPhoto library. This process may take several minutes.
You can postpone this operation by clicking Later, but your iPhoto videos will be unavailable until the next time you restart iMovie."
I accidentally hit NOW, and the process began. When I realized it had used about 5 GBs of space, I force quit iMovie, but the disk space was not reclaimed. I need this space back now... I can import the iPhoto videos later. How can I undo the generated iPhoto video thumbnails? There was no project generated, and so no folder with the thumbnails in them. Where are they located? I would like to delete the iPhoto video thumbnails within iMovie, but preserve the thumbnails for other projects. And of course I would like to be sure that I keep the videos themselves in iPhoto - I definitely do not want to lose the videos there. Thanks for your help.

I want to delete the private browsing option.

There is no built-in option to disable private browsing. You can use the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/menu-editor/ Menu Editor] extension to remove the option to start in private browsing mode from the menus, but that is easily bypassed. For example it does not stop somebody using the keyboard shortcut to open private browsing.
Private browsing is not the only way to hide browsing details, somebody can remove records of their browsing by using clear recent history.

In all honesty though, even if that Bug is fixed a child can just delete their browsing history in any browser quite easily; sure you'll see that it has been deleted, but you still won't know where they have been. You really need to install some Parental Controls on that PC that tracks the web sites that are being visited outside of a web browser, and can only be accessed with a password.
I don't have any recommendations for that type of software, as I haven't needed it myself. Never had any children, and if I did even my grand-children would probably be old enough not to need monitoring like that.

Deleted the default browser shortcut

One of the most annoying things about this phone is that when i'm holding the screen against my hand it will unlock itself and do all manner of things, it usually pocket dials people, this time it actually deleted the shortcut on the main screen for the browser, the only way I can access it now is to open search and search via that, however its quite annoying, is there any way I can get my browser shortcut back?

You can get your browser shortcut back by reloading your OS using BlackBerry Link on your PC.
Plug your phone in to your PC and open Link. Once your phone has connected, click Backup and Restore and do a backup. Once the backup has completed, go back and this time click Restore and restore the backup you just created. This will restore the icon to your homescreen. I also suggest carrying your phone in a holster to avoid pocket dialing and the deletion of icons or set your phone to wake up by using the power button and not by touching the screen. To do this, on your homescreen swipe down from the top and follow Settings>Display then scroll down to Swipe to Wake and set it to OFF. Doing this will disable the touchscreen from waking your phone. I decided after taking about two dozen pics of the inside of my pocket that this was a good thing to activate.

When attempting to delete the complete "Browsing & Download History" Firefox stops responding.

Since I had not deleted my browsing history in a few months I attempted to do so today. Firefox stopped responding. After waiting around 10-15 minutes I ended the process and attempted to delete everything from "today" and it worked. I then, one by one, deleted everything for "all times" except "Browsing & Download History", and it all worked. Now all that is left is to delete this, but every time I try to delete it, and nothing else, Firefox stops responding.

How much history items do you have if the check that in the History Manager?
If there are too many then try to clear them month by month or in case you do not care to lose all history delete the places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder (Firefox will rebuild the bookmarks from the most recent JSON backup).
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.

That said, you can edit Firefox's menus in one of two ways:
(1) Menu Editor extension

An updated favicon is not visible also after a page reload! How can this be done without deleting the full browser cache?

I updated the favicon on a homepage.
I reloaded the page in firefox but the old favicon remains.
I do not want to delete the whole cache of the browser. A page reload should be enough because other users will not delete the cache to get the new favicon.

Did you try a reload with a cache bypass?
You can reload the page and bypass the cache with:

If you have bookmarked that site then try to remove all bookmarks (open the bookmarks in tabs, click the yellow star and click the Remove button). Then try to reload all pages and create new bookmarks if that works. You may need to close and restart Firefox. You can also use Forget About This Site in the History right-click context menu but that will remove everything relating to that site, including saved passwords and exceptions.

I was wondering, if I should still use my keyboard protector, which keeps my finger oil from wearing down the keys... but I have heard that if you close the lid, the oil will damage the screen, but I don't know how to prevent it, because I am always having to clean the prints left behind on the keyboard protector off of the screen, so I don't know if I am supposed to not use it anymore...

I have a keyboard condom on mine, and have not experienced any patterned markings on the screen.
The screen itself seems to be recessed from the housing just enough to allow a bit of clearance. With the protector on its almost flush with the bottom housing.
Worth the purchase to keep crumbs and other debris out from under the keys.

How do I make gmail the default email program for email links in the Mozilla browser?

In previous versions of Mozilla I was able to click an email link , for example, on a craigslist listing and it would automatically open my gmail login page or if I was already logged in it would prompt a new email (compose) with the email field already populated with the email link from which it was prompted. Hard to explain but currently it initiates an Outlook Express session which I don't use or even have configured. How is this process edited to work the way I would like it to? Thanks
