Is it safe to charge an ipad2 with a 12w adapter?

IIs it safe to charge the battery of an ipad2 with a 12w adapter?

The wattage figure is the maximum power capability of the charger.  The actual power output is controlled by the receiving device.

  • Charge an X220 with the power adapter of a T530?

I have an X220 (which is, hands-down, the best laptop I've ever owned). My wife recently bought a T530 for herself. The power adapters appear to be roughly the same, though the T530 has a significantly larger brick. Are the two adapters compatible, or if I find myself running low on power with only her adapter available would it fry my machine?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

you can use a 65, 90 and 135 watts adapter with the X220. The T530 you got have a 90 watts adapter. The adapter is designed to only supply the current (voltage is fixed) and therefore the power only as needed by the machine. It is not constantly supplying 65, 90 or 135 watts, these are the rated maximum power.

  • Possible or safe to charge iPad 1 with Apple A1070 iPod charger from 2004?

I have an iPad 1 and an old Apple A1070 (12 V, 67A) firewire-based charger (with usual dock connector). Can I safely use this to charge my iPad as a spare charger?

Why would I try it? It won't charge.
The pinout of the iPod dock connector has not changed.
The FireWire pins are not the same pins used for USB. You are not pushing 12vdc into a 5vdc pin.

You could use this adapter to use a FW charger

  • Charge new iPad with iPod USB adapter 5V 1amp?

Is there any problem to charge my new iPad with a USB iPod wall adapter with an output of 5V 1amp? And is it okay to do it daily? Will it affect in any way the battery?

The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.

At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

  • Charging MacBook Air with older power adapter.

I have just bought MacBook Air. I still own the MacBook Pro 15' dated 2006. Can I use MacBook Pro's power adapter to charge safely MacBook Air?

Power adapters for Intel-based Apple portables are available in 45W, 60W, and 85W varieties. Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple portable, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue.
For instance If you have a MacBook (13-inch Late 2009) that normally uses a 60W adapter, you can also use an 85W adapter with that computer. You would not use a 45W adapter with that computer; it would not provide enough power for that MacBook. Using an adapter of higher wattage than the adapter that came with the computer will not cause the computer to charge more quickly or otherwise operate any differently than using the adapter that came with the computer.

  • Is it safe to charge iphone with HTC charger?

I'm in travel now and I haven't access to my charger. is it safe to charge my iphone with HTC or sonyErricson charger. the cable connector is with me.

Hey I have done this in person it works but only if you have a mophine iPhone battery case then you can use the htc charger on the case's mini USB port and it actually charges the case and the iPhone! The case only works for 4&4s devices.
The above is a method I currently use, any other working methods would be nice to know as I also have this question.

  • When I try to charge the unit with the magnetic cover it won't charge

when I tried to charge the ipad2 with the magnetic cover on in the sleep mode it never charged & the unit was on?

Have you activated the cover lock in Settings/General/iPad Cover Lock/Unlock?
The iPad does not usually charge if it is on. Have you also set the iPad to sleep after inactivity? Settings/General/Auto-Lock

  • I am traveling in the UAE. 220v country. Bought a plug in converter. Plugged it in but iPad will not charge. Same with Mac pro. Suggestions?

    Would appreciate suggestions.

iPad is not voltage dependent and will chargte in 110 or 220.  What you need is a plug adapter that will let you plug your 10W charger into the wall sockests in UAE.  I may be wrong on the MacBook Pro, but I believe it too will charge on 220, with just an adapter to let you plug it into the wall sockets.
EDIT:  I checked and I was correct on the MacBook Pro.  It too will charge on 220 V outlets.  So, you don't use a voltage adapter.  You just get an adapter that let's you plug your US plug into the wall sockets where you are......

  • Can 10W charged be used with iPhone?

Maybe it is a silly questions, but I hate to have to log around a bunch of adapters?
Is it possible to use the 10W charger for the iPad and the iPhone
or should I just use to the 1A charger that came with the iPhone?
    Regards

The Geniuses at the Apple Store told me that you could charge the iPhone with the iPad adapter. I, of course, was more interested if my vast investment in iPhone accessories for charging could work with the iPad. On that point I got answers from "No" to "I don't know" to "yes, but it could be kind of slow". From what I've read on here, the last answer is the correct one.
I always charge my phone through a USB port (my iPhones charger is still neatly shrink wrapped in the original iPhone box) on my computer or car. I think I'll do the same with my iPad.

  • Is it safe to charge an iPhone 5S with an iPad 12 W Apple Charger ?

    Hello,
I want to purchase an extra DC Charger to charge both my Ipad 4th gen and my iPhone 5S.
Is it safe to use a 12W Apple Charger for both device ?
    Thanks.

According to Apple Store page, it also charges iPhone and all iPod models.
And I use the charger that came with iPad for my iPhone 5 and iPhone 5s all the time and nothing happened, so I think it is safe to use 12W Charger for both devices.

  • Is it safe to charge my iPhone 4S with my Palm Pre and HTC charger?

Recently, I've lost the white charger that came with my iPhone 4S, but I still have the USB cable that originally came with it and I was wondering if it's safe to use the USB charger that came with my pervious Palm Pre and HTC EVO. The phone charges when I use these. But I'm not sure if it's safe to use these to charge my iPhone

    It is fine.

As output voltage is correct, charging is safe. It will charge about twice as fast as compared to its own charger.
