Is it safe to charge my iPad 2 via the desktop?

I'm afraid the "slow charge" will affect future battery life.

Recent Apple desktops and laptops will charge the iPad properly (and show as charging on the display) but with PCs you have to have special high-power USB ports which have only become available pretty recently on motherboards, most brand PCs like Dell and hp will only trickle charge and therefore will show as 'Not Charging' when connected.  As for slow charging, no problem so long as you don't mind waiting, it won't harm the battery.

  • Charging an iPad Air in the US via a plug adapter

    Hello everyone,
I have a question about charging my European-bought iPad Air in the US.
I am using the original iPad Cable and a socket adapter from SKROOS to charge my iPad and I've noticed that it takes much longer to charge the device compared to Europe. To illustrate I left it completely discharge and then plugged it in in airplane mode and after 4 hours the battery is only 50% full. I do not have another cable to try charging it with, but I've tried two different sockets (at home and at work) and in both cases it takes longer than usual. Hence, I was wondering if taking longer to charge is normal given that I'm using a socket adapter.
Any advice on how to improve the battery charging? Would it be OK if I bought a US charger from Apple? From what I understand my EU-device should hadle the voltage?!
    Great many thanks!
    Robert

All Apple chargers work from 100-240VAC, 50-60Hz power. All you will need is a plug adapter for the country you are in.
See the various plug configurations for different countries at http://support.apple.com/kb/ht4341
Using US power vs European power shouldn't make a difference.
Try this first -  Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.) No data/files will be erased. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1430
The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W or 12W (5W on Mini) USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (2.5W, most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery
    http://www.macblend.com/how-to-calibrate-your-mac-iphone-or-ipad-battery/
At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. In rare instances when using the Camera Connection Kit, you may notice that iPad does not charge after using the Camera Connection Kit. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPad from the charger will resolve this issue.

IIs it safe to take my iPad Air through the airport scanners

I wouldn't think that airport scanners would be a problem for your iPad. You may find more in the "More Like This" posts below.
By the way, you posted your question in a section intended for discussions on Apple's AirPort Wi-Fi gear.

  • What do I need to charge my iPad when in the UK?

What do I need to charge my iPad when in the UK?  I know I need the UK plug adapter, but does the 12W iPad charge adapter convert the power?

If you are using the Apple supplied charger, you will simply need  a plug adapter for the local power system.
As per your other post, if you wish to simplify your packing, the iPad charger could be used for the iPhone and the iPad.

I am trying to connect my JVC Hard Disk Drive Camcorder to my IPAD 2 via the Apple camera kit. I am able to download photos, but video files not showing. Camera shows Mass Stoarge. How can I download videos please?

The file name only has 6 characters and I'm not sure what the .mod format is. So that's why they are not seen by the iPad.
Another way to transfer. You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)

  • Is it safe to charge an iPad mini with a 2amp charger?

Is it safe for me to charge my iPad mini with a 2amp charger.

I charge my iPad mini and iphone off 2a chargers. In Australia, you cannot buy USB wall chargers less than 12w (iphones, ipad minis, and ipods use 5w). I have experienced no dramas, and neither have any of the customers ive sold 12W chargers too. I say its absolutely fine, but if you wish not to, you can charge it via usb to the computer. Hope this helps!

  • After update I can't charge my iPad with my the charger.

It says not charging when plugged in.

Try giving your iPad a reset. Hold down the sleep and home keys until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
How are you trying to charge it? It's best charged plugged into the wall with it's supplied power brick.

  • How long do i have to charge my ipad air for the first time?

For how long do i have to charge my new i-pad air the first time after unpacking it??

Typically you shouldn't have to charge it. It should come with enough of a charge to use it right out of the box. But you will need to charge it when the battery gets low and you can do that at your convenience....and you can use the iPad while the battery is charging.

  • In Argentina, South America do I need to use a converter to charge my iPad, or just the adaptor plug.

Just the adapter. The power brick is rated for world wide voltage

  • What do i need to charge my ipad 1 in the ukraine

I do not think so. They'll need a plug adapter to make the US plug fit into Ukrainian outlets.

I have tried the plug in different outlets, but it still remains very warm. I don't want to start a fire! Pls help.

Yes, the 10W USB adaptor gets very warm - this is normal.
Make sure that the adaptor's heat can easily escape!

  • TS1702 why cannt i download any app on my ipad except via the usb connection to my laptop's itunes software? i am rejected by "sign in to the greek app store". what's the difference?

i thought, when i firstly signed up, there was one and only app store. i cant remember if i signed up to the us app store or the greek one. soooo confusing...

The store you use is linked to the credit card on file and the physical address for that credit card.  If you setup your account using a Greek credit card and address, then your account is tied to that store.
If you want to try and change that, go to http://expresslane.apple.com and click on itunes and then go to manage your account to see what you are tied to.

  • Is it safe to charge an iPhone overnight using a USB port on a surge protector?

I just bought a new surge protector that has two USB ports built in. I know it is safe to charge an iPhone using the USB ports on a computer, and it is safe to charge an iPhone using the supplied power adapter. However, I have heard that the supplied power adapter (the brick) that comes with the phone automatically stops charging the iPhone when it reaches 100%. I normally leave my iPhone charging overnight. So my question is, would it be safe to charge my iPhone overnight via the built in USB port on my new surge protector? Or should i continue using the power adapter that it came with?
This is the surge protector i purchased.

Yes, it's safe. The phone is actually what stops the charging.
