Is it safe to delete preview files/folders?

I noticed I have 30gb or more of folders in a folder called preview files.  These seem to be the product of rendering and look like a waste of space - what happens if i delete the whole lot for projects i no longer work on?  would removing these and the CFA and PEAK files damage the ability to work on the file at a later stage?  I could use the extra space!
j

First of all, there is a difference between preview files and Media Cache files.
Preview files are those, which are created when you render the timeline. By default they are .mpeg and .xmp. If you delete them via Sequence -> Delete Render Files, .mpeg files, which represent the current state of your timeline, will be deleted, whereas the rest .mpeg files, which represent older state of your timeline, and all .xmp ones remain.
If you delete them manually, i.e. without going to Sequence -> Delete Render Files, you will be asked about some missing media on that project re-launch.
Media Cache files, some of which are .pek and .cfa, are created when you import assets into a project. You can check the Media Cache files location via Preferences -> Media.
Deleting all files from both Media Cache and Media Cache Files folders is safe: PrPro will rebuild Media Cache Database from scratch on restart. Moreover, deleting all files from both Media Cache and Media Cache Files manually sometimes helps fixing Dynamic Link or Importer Generic Error issues.

  • Can I delete the files/folders in 'Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup'?

    Hi!
I have just tried to backup and update my iphone to iOS 5.1. The backup seems to have worked but when it came to restoring the iphone, I think the hard disk ran out of space and so it failed. I saw this and so I freed up around 3Gb of disk space and I tried it again. It again failed. Again I noticed that there was no space left on the hard disk. I assumed that to continue the restore it probably won't need that much more space (as it had already done most of the work) so I freed up a few more Gb.
Again it failed. When it fails, itunes leaves the partially restored elements on my hard disk meaning that my 'Apple Computer' folder is now 28Gb!! I cannot afford to delete anything else from the hard disk. I am using a PC by the way. I have noticed that in the folder 'Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup' has 5 folders in it which is the same amount that I tried to restore the iphone (before the last restore attempt there were 4 folders). These folders amount to 20Gb. From this I am assuming that the actual backup that I made is infact in 'Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Backups'.
Can I delete the folders in 'MobileSync\Backup'? This would free up 20Gb of disk space giving me enough to properly restore (in theory!).
    Thanks for your time!!
    Nick

your advice worked for me and saved me what ever evil lurked behind my thought to just delete the backup and get back my very lmited space on my 250GB Mackbook Pro using daisydisk pro https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/daisydisk/id411643860?mt=12
    Why DaisyDisk?
DaisyDisk remains the tool of choice for film makers (including companies like Pixar), digital artists, IT professionals and hundreds of thousands of Mac users worldwide when it comes to disk space management. Constantly improving since its initial introduction, the app easily blows away competition in terms of speed, efficiency and user experience.

Delete iOS backups this way: iTunes>Preferences>Devices...select the backup/backups...hit delete. Do not mess with your backup folder.

  • Should I delete preview files to save space on my hard drive?

Should I delete preview files to save sapce on my hard drive? At times the program crashes and I wonder whether I should get rid of these files to make more space.

    PCNoviceMesa
    Yes.
If you run a SD project (whether you render stills or videos) and render, you are going to get DV AVI files automatically generated. If it is a HD project, rendering deposits MPEG2.mpg files on your hard drive (whether you render stills or videos). We are talking possibly GB amounts of files if you let them pile up long enough. For Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 64 bit, these preview files are by default in Libraries/Documents/Adobe/Premiere Elements/12.0 and in the Adobe Premiere Elements Preview Files Folder there.
First let us see how much is piled up there before we take action against them.
If the preview files there are part of an existing project or projects, the consequence of deleting those files is that you will have to render again that content in the project to get the best possible preview. If the preview files represent project long since gone, good riddance.
Please check out the situation. And, then we can discuss also pile ups of conformed video and conformed audio files.
    More later.

  • Can I free up some disk space by deleting preview files?

    Help please anyone!!
I'm new working with CS4, my hard disk ran out of space therefore I'm unable to transcode my project in Encore, and I'm also unable to burn a DVD in premiere because of no enough hard disk space. I read somewhere that I can delete preview files with deleting files in the actual project. is it truth?  Any suggestions?

Yes, so long as you do not Render again. Do not delete your .CFA and .PEK files, as they will just be regenerated, when you load the Project.
However, you are likely to not gain that much additional space. The best solution would be to add more HDD's. I'd try doing an Archive of any older Projects, and cleaning off (obviously Moving to an external) any unused media files.
On my laptop, I also have had great experience editing to/from FW-800 externals. If you have, or can add, eSATA, that would be even better. Still, I'd pick up a handful of 1TB internals first.
    Good luck,

  • Is it safe to delete .fpj files?

In RH9, using Source Control 3.1.
Trying to bring in topics from several other projects. Somehow, we have managed to get all the files we want into the project as displayed in
    RoboSource
    Windows Explorer
But when each of us tries to open the project in RH9, none of us can see the topics we brought in from the other projects. Upon doing some research here in the forums, we opened a few fpj files in these folders and saw that they are scrambled.
There are dozens of these folders, we would prefer not to have to edit them manually.
So, long story long, is it safe to delete them - will they rebuild when the project is reopened?

    Hi there
When you create a folder in RoboHelp, the FPJ is part of the XML structure used by RoboHelp to manage and track topics. I would think RoboHelp will become awfully confused and project corruption will ensue if you start deleting FPJ files.

  • Deleting Preview Files

Sometimes when things seem too easy they make me wary:  I need to free up some space on my C: Drive.  Adobe Premier created a folder on my Desktop called Adobe Premier Pro Preview Files; from older projects.  Can I simply delete these files to free up space and re-render them if I should ever need to do so?
    Thank You!
    Tim S.

    yes.
also you can clean your media database...  might save a litte bit of hd space...not a lot...as databases dont take up a ton of space...
you can also go through your sratch disk premiere directories ( media cache etc ) and see if anything with large byte count is there from projects you dont use anymore..

  • Is it safe to delete .appmergegen files in /var/tmp anytime?

    Hi,
I saw when I start an weblogic server, it writes deployment files in /var/tmp in exploded format.
Do anybody has any idea on these files? and why weblogic writes these in /var/tmp?
And can these be deleted anytime without restarting weblogic?
e.g. here are some of the files generated today:
(each of the directory contains deployment files in exploded format)
    drwxr-xr-x 5 ecmspbea ecmspbea 512 Sep 14 07:29 .appmergegen_1222796450487_da.war
    drwxr-xr-x 9 ecmspbea ecmspbea 512 Sep 14 07:42 .appmergegen_1252939053427_da.war
    drwxr-xr-x 3 ecmspbea ecmspbea 512 Sep 14 07:42 .appmergegen_1252939053427
    For background:
This is weblogic 10.0 on a Solaris 9 box.

    Thanks for your answer.
But I am curious to know if these are not required at all after deployment is successfull, why weblogic does not delete these? It is going to be an overhead to the administrators to periodically delete these files from /ver/tmp or to write scripts ... whatever ...
I'll delete all such files from /var/tmp. but needed a confirmation that weblogic server not at all access these during runtime (means we do not need to restart weblogic servers after deleting all these) ...
    Appriciate your help.

  • Is it safe to delete .dmp files in the Program directory?

I found a rather large .dmp file located in my Firefox install directory:
    c:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\core.20130617.XXXXXX.XXXXX.XXXX.dmp
It appears that the core file is tagged with a date stamp; the subsequent "X's" are other numerical digits but I'm masking those out since I'm not sure they're relevant. Is it safe to remove this? Note that this file doesn't appear in about:crashes.

Delete it and reboot the computer, make sure firefox is not open, as windows usually makes those when you get BSOD's.

  • Delete Aged Files & Folders from Subfolders

    Hi,
I have the following script to delete files and folders older than 7 days. It work but I need to be able to go through subfolders as well:
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objFolder = objFSO.GetFolder("C:\FTPRoot_External")
    For Each file in objFolder.Files
    If DateDiff("d", file.DateLastModified, Now) > 7 Then
    objFSO.DeleteFile(file)
    End If
    Next
    For Each folder in objFolder.SubFolders
    If DateDiff("d", file.DateLastModified, Now) > 7 Then
    objFSO.DeleteFolder(folder)
    End If
    Next
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

Here is an example I coded sometime ago with a recursive sub. You can modify this for your needs:
    Option
    Explicit
    Dim strFolder, objFSO, objFOlder
    ' Specify main folder.
    strFolder = "c:\scripts"
    ' Retrieve folder object.
    Set objFSO = CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    Set objFolder = objFSO.GetFolder(strFolder)
    ' Enumerate files.
    Call GetFiles(objFolder)
    Sub GetFiles(ByVal objParent)
        ' Enumerate files in folder.
        Dim objFile, objChild
        For Each objFile
    In objParent.Files
            Wscript.Echo objFile.Path &
    "," & objFile.DateLastModified
        Next
        ' Recurse through nested folders.
        For Each objChild
    In objParent.SubFolders
            Call GetFiles(objChild)
        Next
    End Sub

  • Can't delete baggage files/folders

Running robohelp x3, I've somehow generated files in my
