Is it safe to download Burn to my recently purchased MacBook Pro so I can make DVD's that will play on any DVD player from movies I made in iMovie?
Is their any other software I could use?

There are a number of developers who have chosen for various reasons not to offer their software through the Mac App Store, so don't assume that if an application is not in the App Store that the application is not available. Can't download Mavericks on brand new Macbook Pro 13 Retina

I've got a brand new Macbook Pro 13 Retina, late 2013. So I meet all needed spec's.
Then trying to donload using AppStore I get the message:
We could not complete your purchase
OS X Mavericks cannot be installed on this computer.
Anyone?

The latest version on the App Store for 10.9 Mavericks is build 13A603.
I believe that the new rMBPs have their own special build number of 13A2093.
Opening About this Mac from the Apple menu and clicking on the Version 10.9, will reveal you current build number.
So the version that you have installed is newer than the current version that is avaliable to download from the App Store. That is why you will be getting the error mesage, as you cannot install a build that is older than the computer came with.
Once 10.9.1 is released, it will have a build number beginning with 13B. You will be able to download this version to your rMBP from the Purchases tab if you wish and make into the USB installer as it will bring you in line with the standard release that everyone else has.
Until then, you will only be able to use the Internet Recovery method.

My husband just brought home his new MacBook Pro, and is trying to set it up. It is taking 3 hours to download a software update over our broadband connection. Is this normal?

That is your wireless connection speed not the broadband speed. It is tough to see the broadband speed with out doing a speed test at Speedtest.com or going to broadband reports . com and using their tools page and the speed test.
Once the update downloads finish do some speed test to get a reference on how fast or slow your broadband connection is.
If you have more then one computer do the tests on both to see if the new mac has the same speed as your other computer. You can also do them on your phone with a mobile speed test through your wifi connection to your broadband.

How to re-download tv shows on new macbook pro?

I recently lost all of my iTunes tv shows - about 70+ How I Met Your Mother episodes, and Little Einsteins for my boy - when my hard-disk crashed. The data couldn't be recovered, but I was told that you can re-download previously purchased media from Itunes.
With my new macbook pro, I tried that, but found only a few of my music that can be downloaded. Couldn't find how to download the tv shows I purchased. How?

Danielle, even having a back up may not have helped. I backed up my entire libary and computer with time machine. Then I cleaned out my Mac and reformatted everything. When I turned it back on, Time Machine showed that there was used space, but I never got the content back. Apple scratched their heads and didn't know WTH. Worst of all, everything on Apple TV was gone-same story. Used space, but unreachable. Never got any of it back. I was hoping iCloud would fix everything but, NOPE.
A few months later I had a lightning strike. Everything I had saved on external hard drive AND Time Machine was blown away. As soon as I turned on Apple TV, it was all missing-again! No trace. This time I had a SECOND external hard drive back up, but everything I had purchased and saved on my Apple TV was gone. Now I'm fighting to get it back. iCloud should do it. It doesn't.
Long story short. You can back up everything you want, but in the end-iTunes and Apple are a fickle lot. It's a crap shoot.

I am wondering if it is safe to download Yosemite to the laptop because it says that it is not comparable with all apps. Plus it did not suggest it as an upgrade. What to do? What to do?

I recommend creating a second partition on your hard drive, and install Yosemite on the new partition. That way you can test it out without it affecting your current OS.

Yes it is safe if you only download direct from Adobe.
You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):

and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.

When you have installed the latest version of Flash, relaunch Safari and test.

Unable to download Google Earth to new macbook pro running Yosemite.

On Google Earth site the download link fails to start loading immediately. Using the link provided in the event of such failure I am taken to di.google.com which starts to load then also fails part way through. Whether I go straight to the google site or go via a third party link the same thing happens. Any solutions?

You may be confusing Adobe Flash - which is known for security issues - with Adobe Reader perhaps.
I think you are safe to download Adobe Reader. Always update the software when updates are available since many updates do include security fixes as well as bug fixes and any new features that have been added.
I have always had some version of Adobe Reader on all of my Macs and have never had any virus, Trojan or Malware on any of them.

I am trying to download windows 7 on my macbook pro but it keeps saying the disk cannot be partitioned because some files cannot be moved.

Its all in the title. I am trying to use bootcamp to download windows 7 on my macbook pro mountain lion, but I keep getting this error. I tried going to Disk Utility, and my active volume already is formatted under Mac OS Extended (Journaled), so I don't know how to fix it. I already backed up the volume on an external harddrive. Also, everything under the volume I wanted to edit is greyed out, and when I try to restore the backup that I created via time machine, it pops up with another error that says "Could not unmount volume "/" (Resource Busy).
Please be gentle, I'm used to using windows and don't know like anything about computers. If someone could give me a detailed explanation for these errors and a solution of how I could correctly download windows on my mac I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!

Try a restart.
If that doesn't fix the problem, shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application unistaller. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Please read this whole message before doing anything. This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it. Step 1 The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account. Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select Help from the menu bar, and enter “Set up guest users” (without the quotes) in the search box. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.” While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin. Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem? After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish.
