Is it safe to download google chrome onto my imac?

Isz it safe for me to download google chrome onto my imac.  And can someone help me with Adobe flash and Abode reader, which one should I download and way.

You can install as many web browsers as you like, but you probably don't want them all running at the same time so they don't hog your RAM.
The link I gave you is to the Adobe site, the only safe place to download Flash.
To summarise - if you only used Chrome you wouldn't need a separate installation of Flash and could uninstall it using Adobe Flash Player Install Manager which is located in your Utilities folder.
Of course, if you do uninstall it you wouldn't be able to view Flash content if you decided to use Safari or any other browser that doesn't have Flash built-in.
To stop Flash downloading automatically go to System Preferences>Flash Player and reeview your settings under the Advanced tab. I have mine set to 'Notify me to install updates' - this ensures that you keep up-to-date with Flash, but you should always be wary of what you're installing - don't just update without verifying what you're about to do.

  • Is it safe to download google chrome

Hi is it safe to download google chrome?

It's safe to download, however it all depends upon what you consider "safe"
Google isn't know for respecting a users privacy, and have been fined and busted by many governments over their tactics.
They do install a root level updater that updates all their software which many people later have problems with and is certainly questionable as being unnecessary intrusive.
I would say their software is safe, just not your privacy with using anything they have. They give away free stuff to use it to data mine it's users.
If your looking for the most user friendly/choice browser that won't spy on you, then Firefox is certainly the best.
You can customize it, add themes, personas, and tons of add-ons to do just about anything. Some add-ons are available no where else but on Firefox.
You can see I've modified my Firefox to my tastes above, when the default is the below portion.
Also Firefox can be greatly speeded up with a hack, search for "make Firefox 10x faster" makes entire web pages load in a flash. Makes Safari look like sloppy seconds.

  • Irritated by Adobe attempts to sneak Google Chrome onto my computers.

The last few times I've installed Adobe products (Photoshop, Lightroom, Flash), the installer has attempted to sneak Google Chrome onto my system; they call it an "option" but it seems always to be selected by default.  This really irritates me, as I happen to not be a particular fan of Google's behavior.
Today, when I was attempting to upgrade Flash (and admittedly not paying close enough attention), I ended up installing several garbage registry scanners and other "stuff" I'd never heard of.  It took a fair bit of time to remove it.  Please join me in comlaining to Adobe about this.  I for one will start looking for replacement products if this continues.

Google Chrome, Google Toolbar, McAfee Security Scan are often bundled as optional software with free Adobe products.
However, I have never heard of registry scanners and other crapware being bundled.  Are you sure you downloaded that from the Adobe site?  Can you provide a link?

  • Hi, can anyone please tell me if it is possible to download Google chrome (or similar) on the New Ipad... Thanks!

Hi, can anyone please tell me if it is possible to download Google chrome (or similar) on the New Ipad...
I keep getting an a message that reads "Safari cannot download this file" ... is there any other browser that can run on the New Ipad
    Thanks!

You can't download programs via Safari. The only programs (i.e. apps) that you can install are those that are in the iTunes app store on your computer and the App Store app directly on the iPad - PC and Mac programs are not compatible with the iPad, they are different operating systems.
There are a number of browser that are available in the store e.g. Atomic Web and iCab Mobile are two of the most popular, and there is also a free Opera browser (though what is available in the store may depend upon what country that you in and therefore what is available in your country's store).

I just downloaded Google Chrome and use both Google Chrome and Firefox as my browsers. However, whenever I click on an email link, it opens up Chrome and I want it to open Firefox. How do I fix this?

Go into FF Preferences & set it to be your default browser.  This way when you click on an email link in Chrome, FF will open.

  • Unable to download Google Chrome on Windows 8.1 / new HP laptop

Hi, I just purchased this new HP laptop TODAY -- and have been trying to download Google Chrome and set Google as my homepage because I have been working with Google products for the last 5 years and it is my preference.
However, in the first instance, I get a message saying I can't download Google Chrome, even though I've verified the download is for Windows 8.1, then it also triggered a virus infection and caused the security software to do a threat scan -- three times!!  In trying to simply set Google as my homepage, when I click on the actual 'set up' button, the screen simply freezes.
It's almost as if Yahoo / HP is not allowing me to choose my Browser and search engine....does anyone know how to fix this??   I've never had this happen before.
    Thanks!!!

    Hello,
Thank you for posting in the HP Support Forum.
In this particular case, neither HP nor Yahoo prevent the computer from getting Chrome browser. Especially when you mentioned that the security software triggered an alarm, this means that most probably you tried to download a fake copy of the Chrome browser and thanks God the security software prevented it from installing. It is quite common nowadays because this is popular software and fake copies do exist. Sometimes they appear on top of search result in search engines and they do not lead to the official vendor's site but some other server.  Additionally, if this is not the case, your computer might also have already been infected by some pest which redirected your traffic to fake Chrome.
There is only one official place to download this product - Google official site/sub-site
Click here  =>  https://www.google.com/chrome/browser/desktop/index.html   and  choose Download Chrome blue button in the middle of the page
    Follow the on screen instructions.
Some additional instructions from Google ->  https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/95346?hl=en
Here are some other instructions how to set up home page in Internet Explorer

For Google, instead of blank page, you need to enter www.google.com  as the page address

    Hope this helps

  • Downloaded Google Chrome and computer freezes

A week ago I downloaded Google Chrome and have noticed that if I leave Chrome open when the computer goes into sleep mode, that it freezes up. The only way to unlock it is to power off. Is this common?

It could be a Google problem or a MacBook problem. The cause is uncertain but you can read more about it in this thread:

Can you download Google Chrome or Firefox?

You can download Firefox Home. It is made by Mozilla, just like the actual Firefox. It isn't a full browser but you can view and use the tabs you currently have open on Firefox on the computer. Also, Opera Mini is a full browser on iOS.
