i just got my ipod nano 2 gig 1st gen today (refurb) and i was wondering if u have to download itunes 7? i mean i read some posts where some ppl's ipod nanos got screwed up and i don't want the same to happen to me since i just got it... cuz my ipod is running firmware 23-3-06 and im happy using itunes 6..

you don't have to download 7. the minimum itunes version requirement for a nano is 4.9 (6.0.5.20 if you want to use it with a sports kit):

It is safe to download if your phone is not jailbroken. Before you download it, however, take some precautions:
Reboot your computer
Disable your antivirus and firewall
Connect the phone cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
Before updating right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "Backup"
When you are given the choice choose "Download only", not "Download and Update"
After the download completes successfully click the Update button to install it.
Most of these steps are just being overly cautious, as most people ignore them and have no problems. But occasionally the extra steps save grief.

Is itunes 7 safe to download yet?

I'm still using v6 as people I know have had nothing but problems with 7. Is it safe to download yet? Will the new features make it worthwhile?

No, no, no. I sure wish I read this post a few days ago. Here's what happened to me:
As soon as I did an update to iTunes 7.0... and Quicktime (they were 2 in one), iTunes nor my computer no longer recognize my ipod when attached. Quickime will not play my Quicktime videos (get a neon screen with lines on all of them, yet they will play on Real Player). I've uninstalled and reinstalled each program 3 times, per the chat tech's advise. This has not helped. It is not my USB ports fault, nor my computer,nor my iPod. It's there programs! Anyone else have this problem? I can't restore iPod, as it appears nowhere.I'v had iPod for over 6 months, never a problem with it or Quicktime until this update. Help???? please, please, please! Did you actually download the installer from Apple or did you use Software Update. You can download the installer http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Maybe I'm old fashioned but I would consider repairing permissions first using Disk Utility because something caused this to go wrong the first time. And of course make a backup of your whole library first. It shouldn't happen but some have complained about their libraries being wiped out by iTunes updates. Better safe...

After download Itunes 11.0.1 can not open store but Apps update is good.

I downloaded new Itunes 11.0.1. Music, Films, apps are all on screen.
I can also update my Apps from the appstore.
But when I want to go tot the Apple Store for aan new app or new music it says: ITunes doesn't work, waiting for a sollution.
When I do the internettest the last one fails: no safe combination with ITunes store.
I had this problem not with Itunes 10.

I am having trouble downloading ITunes without getting a virus or other problem. I went to Apple clicked on ITunes and then hit get redirected to itunes.descargar.es. I don't trust this because I have heard that it is not safe.

Let's try a malware scan to see if we can knock out any redirecters you might have picked up.
Download and install the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware:

Update your MBAM definitions and then run a full scan of the PC. (Takes about 2 hours on my Lenovo.)
Does the scan find any infections? If so, please paste the contents of the log file for the scan in a reply here so we can have a look.

It sounds like after updating to the latest iTunes you are unable to open iTunes at all. I want to recommend the troubleshooting from the article named:

Start iTunes in Safe Mode
Open iTunes in Safe Mode to isolate any interference from plug-ins or scripts not manufactured by Apple.
Hold down Shift–Control while opening iTunes. You should see a dialog that says "iTunes is running in safe mode" before iTunes finishes starting up.
Click Continue.
See if the issue you're experiencing persists in Safe Mode.
If you have the same issue while iTunes is in Safe Mode, proceed to the "Create a new user account" section. If you don't experience the same issue, follow these steps to remove third-party plug-ins.

I am sorry, but the Windows OS is totally unfamiliar to me. I'm a Mac.
I did Goggle the issue and there are a number of support articles about this error message on the Internet. It seems to be a problem in your OS but like I said, I am not Windows knowledgeable at all.
You either have to reregister the Windows installer or reinstall it - if I am reading any of this correctly.
