I'm very green in using my mac, and also very cautious in what I do with it, so I'm wondering guys if you can help me solving my doubt , If I download Skype in my mac , nothing bad can cause it to the computer , I mean can it damage the process of it? any info will be very helpful, thanks.

You're welcome. The most recent upgrades to the OS have contained some rather important security updates. Unless you have important software or hardware that aren't compatible with versions higher than 10.6.3, I can not think of a reason to not upgrade.

I believe the problem is with download hosting sites surreptitiously inserting adware, not a software probem with FireFox. I've use FF since about v2 through current (v32) on Mac ranging from ancient to current, and never had an issue as long as I downloaded it from the developers' site here:

This is driving me crazy. I have Skype installed on my laptop, and want to use the same account to use Skype on my Mac. I didn't know you didn't have to create a seperate account, so went ahead and download Skype to my Mac under a new name. When I realised I could just use the original, I 'deleted' the old one (ridiculously, you can't delete it as such, just put a load of XXXX's in the info) and signed in under my first account name and downloaded Skype to my Mac. Maddeningly, every time I do this, it uses my supposedly 'deleted' account name, not the original account I already have with all of my contacts etc- despite being signed in under that name when I download.
I'm truly fed up. Any ideas? Thanks!

Apple typically says that it is your responsibility to backup your purchased music. You can try calling them an asking them to let you redownload them.
Do you know if the old hard drive still works? You can taking it out and adding it to the new computer.

My wife and I share our Mac OS 10.6.8 since downloading Skype on her account she can not stay connected to any web site she pulls up. I removed Skype from here account but it stll happens. What can I do to clear this up?

O.k. Thanks for the clarification. I poked around in my TimeCapsule router's settings (TimeCapsule is an Apple Airport Extreme router with attached hard drive for wireless backup/storage). Unfortunately, it doesn't look like I can disable multicasting with the TimeCapsule. I can change the multicasting 'rate'. Settings are Low, Medium, High. It's currently set to Low.
I did a few web searches, and found an Apple.com article: <http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3789?viewlocale=en_US> which explained how to disable Bonjour Service Advertisements. I believe this is the same thing as 'Multicasting'. The process is a modification of "/System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.mDNSResponder.plist", and a restart of the Mac is required afterwards.
I'm a bit concerned that disabling multicasting will interfere with my AppleTVs and iTunes music sharing, but I may try it next time I'm up for a computer workout. This task will require editing of system preference files, could require multiple restarts, might interfere with my AppleTVs, could interfere with my iTunes file sharing, doesn't have a documented relationship to my problem.
This is way to difficult for something that should just work. Did you say you had read something about a relationship between this bonjour multicasting and smb connectivity? If it was online could you post the link?
I'm currently able to connect to the drive using NFS, but I have to manually configure that connection each time I reboot (can't get the 'Disk Utility' configured to do it automatically). While it's working with NFS, it's not my preferred connect method (for various reasons).

The button would be on your iPod version of Skype, not the computer version. They are not the same.

It is safe to download if your phone is not jailbroken. Before you download it, however, take some precautions:
Reboot your computer
Disable your antivirus and firewall
Connect the phone cable to a USB port directly on the computer, not a hub
Before updating right click on the name of the phone in iTunes and choose "Backup"
When you are given the choice choose "Download only", not "Download and Update"
After the download completes successfully click the Update button to install it.
Most of these steps are just being overly cautious, as most people ignore them and have no problems. But occasionally the extra steps save grief.

There are no risks, in general. I use it all the time on my MBP and it works great. Just beware of who you are adding in your friend list and what information exchange you have with them (this can be said in general about using any internet messenger out there).
