Is it safe to go back in the water.

I called Apple Care this morning and explained to them my issue iTunes7 and 1.2.
They confidently, almost smuggly, said they could solve all of my problems as follows:
1. Uninstall iTunes7
2. Uninstall iPod
3. Both from the control panel
4. Reinstall iTunes7 from www.apple.com/itunes/download
5. Then restore.
So...
Do you vote Yeh or Nay?
I am tired of fighting this and would like only one solution

I have a 60GB 5G and after installing the update, my iPod resulted as many of those that have posted; lines on the screen and lock ups shortly after boot up. I tried the suggestion that Apple gave you (uninstall everything, reinstall, and update) without success. This is what I finally came to...Remove all Apple software; iTunes, all of the Updaters and the Apple software update program, and Quicktime. Reboot. Use the CD that came with the iPod to reload version 1.1.1 and iTunes 6.whatever. Reboot again. Attach the iPod and the PC will recognize a new USB device. Reboot again. Install version 1.1.2 and update the iPod. Reboot again. Intall iTunes version 7. Attach the iPod. DO NOT LET IT LOAD THE 1.2 UPDATE. Synchronize. Slow, but working. Don't mess with it, especially the photos. iTunes shut down in the middle of the synchronization and when I did that, it left unusable space. I had to start all over. My version shows as 1.1.2. However, My iPod is fuctional again, with iTunes 7.

Psst - Anton - I'm BACK (in the Scripting Languages forum).
But on the plus side, John Benson has put some cool PERL into my thread there ... in case you care to take a look ...
How would you code this in Perl/PHP etc.?

Damn it...! </kicking self> ... I thought of responding to your "Goodbye cruel world" post with an "I am sure you will be back", but didn't.
So you have a desktop in your hotel room, or did you convert the wardrobe closet into a server room and train the hotel staff to wear static-free Wellingtons (a.k.a. "gummboots")?
    Cheers,

Well, I'm back on an SAP gig more quickly than I expected..  Sorry for the false alarm.
Due to the nature of the gig, I won't be maintaining as high a profile here at Coffee Corner ... I know that will please many and disappoint few.
But I will be asking my usual questions in the relevant Forums, and I hope to get as much help from the usual suspects as I have in the past (Uwe, Rich, Suresh, a@s, nxo ... apologies to anyone I've left out.)
In fact, I'm about to post a question about restoring MaxDB tables down in the Trial Version forum right now, so if any of you have had DOKTL corrupted by a hard "down" on your PC, you may want to follow the thread ...
    Best to all

  • How can I safe my data back from the Time capsule to iphone and macbook?

    Hi,
last weekend we were robbed while being on vacation and iphones and macbook air got stolen. Good thing was that at home we had a time capsule and our normal macbook. As soon as we get the new iphones and the new airbook we want to get our itunes and apps and datas back to the iphones and airbook ... can somebody tell us how to re-safe or back-safe stuff from the time capsule back to the equipment?
Thank you ... I feel so "naked" without my phone :-(
    Virtualkate

Sorry about your loss. Follow the directions here to use Time Capsule to restore your new Air to the state your old Air was in when stolen. When you first connect your new phones, you'll be given the option of restoring from the backup of your old phones or setting up as new. Restore from your previous backups, followed by syncing your content back to your phones. You should be good to go. Maintaining current backups makes this a piece of cake.

I'd go a little farther than Peter and say, "No, it's not safe."
And I'd go a little farther and say, "No, it's not safe," and ask the question of why they didn't just buy the color they wanted in the first place

  • How to revert back to the last version - I lost ALL most visited links and my Norton Safe master logon

Please, I am partially handicapped, and with the new version 4.0, I have lost ALL my Most Visited links and history, plus my Norton Safe master log on manager is also gone. (Typing in difficult for me)
Regretting this upgrade BIG time, I want to revert back to the last version but cannot find any instructions anywhere.
One blog entry I read said that the revert process (not explained how) made that person lose ALL their bookmarks.
There was NO warning that this 4.0 version would do any of this, and this is unacceptable, my favorite browser for a long time has me wondering now if I should go to Chrome!

Firefox 4.0 has a combined Reload, Stop, & Go button that appears at the right end of the location bar. Only one function is ever active at any one time, so combining them save UI space was a good idea. When a page is loading, it is a "Stop" button, when it finished loading, it turns into a "Reload" button, and when you start to type something into the Location bar it turns into a "Go" button.
To restore the Firefox 3 appearance you can use these steps:
    * Open the "View > Toolbars > '''Customize'''" window or right-click a vacant area on a Toolbar, ''except fot the Bookmarks Toolbar''.
    * Then drag'n'drop the Reload and Stop buttons to their previous position at the left side of the Location bar.
    # Set the order to "Reload - Stop" to get a combined "Reload/Stop" button.
    # Set the order to "Stop - Reload" to separate them and get two distinct buttons.

  • When i upgraded to 4.0 I lost norton's sign in bar for identity safe. It was on the previous release but did not transfer with the download. How do I get it back on my home page.

I had identity safe log in tool bar on my previous release of fire fox. It was extremely convenient for keeping and auto filling my many user names and passwords when I choose to log into it. How do I get it back without having to remove your 4.0 and going back to the previous release?

    Hello Bretus,
Thank you for contacting Mozilla Support and I'm sorry this update isn't compatible with the extensions you're using.
The Kaspersky support forums mention that those extensions will be updated soon, so that they are compatible with FF25. In the meantime, we do not recommend that you downgrade your version of Firefox, but you can find instructions and download locations for previous versions here:
[[Install an older version of Firefox|Install an older version of Firefox]]
Please let us know if this solves your issue.

  • When I get to the login page on my macbook, I type in my password and it starts to load, but then the screen turns blue and it goes back to the login. What should I do?

I was having some problems with my mac, safari and itunes was freezing alot. I have to force shutdown and when I tried to start up again i get to the login page, type in my password and it starts to load, but then the screen turns blue for a few seconds and it goes back to the log in screen. What should I do?
    Please Help!!

    Somewhat similar problem:
Put in the password, hit enter, the screen goes blue for half a second, then goes back to login screen and carries on logging in as usual.  Drives me mad.  It doesn't happen with a fresh Lion installation, nor if booted into safe mode.  On the machine in question it also happens to new user accounts.
I've removed all login items, including Startup Items and Launch Demons (pun intended) and Agents, I've compared system login plists with a fresh Lion installation - can't see differences.  I've removed Little Snitch and PeerGuardian (no more third party kexts).
@Carolyn: I've done disk maintenance with DiskUtility and fsck and even DiskWarrior, cleaned caches, etc. etc.
Any ideas would be gratefully received.
Sorry for trying to hijack the thread (as it's not about Lion), but it seemed dead anyway.

  • I have OSX 10.5.7 on my Intel Mac. When I try to login using the correct password the screen goes white and just returns back to the login screen. It does not jiggle like when you enter the wrong password.

I have had a number of issues with my Intel Mac recently and had to reboot using disk utilities, safe mode, OSX recovery, but always come back to the login screen but when I type my password the screen goes white and returns to the login screen. My password is correct and the login does not jiggle as it would if the password was wrong. Please advise,

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. There are ways to back up, even if you can’t log in. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore everything to the state it’s in now. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP.
The procedure below may spare you the need for a clean reinstallation of OS X. If you don't feel comfortable carrying it out, don't. try.
Briefly, you need to delete the following file:
    /var/audit/current
If you already know how to do that, you can skip the rest of this message. Do it, and try again to log in.
Boot in single-user mode by holding down the key combination command-S at the startup chime. If you’re using an external USB keyboard, it must be plugged directly into a built-in port on the Mac, not into a hub. Release the keys when you see a black screen with scrolling white text. In this mode, there’s no graphical interface; just a command line. Initially, you can’t make any changes to files.
When the text stops scrolling, and you see a line ending in a pound sign (“#”), type the following command:
    mount -uw /
You must type the command exactly as given, with no mistakes. If you don’t feel able to do that, STOP. At this stage, no harm will be done if you make a mistake, but later, it will be. Press the return key.
    Next, type the following command:
    rm -i /var/audit/current
Press return. You should get the following output:
    remove /var/audit/current?
If that's not what you get, STOP. Type the single letter N, press return, and try again. Otherwise, type the single letter Y and pressreturn.
    Finally, enter the command:
    exit
Press return. The text will start scrolling again, and then the system will reboot. Try again to log in.

  • How do I stop Google results from redirecting me back to the main site itself?

Hi, so today, this morning, when I booted up my laptop (Mac, OS X Mavericks), Safari and Google started freaking out on me. It was the first time anything of the sort has happened to me before, and being the lousy tech person I am, I am freaking out quite a bit.
    Let me elaborate.
I opened up Safari as per usual, went on Skype, had a nice little conversation with my friend when she suddenly brought up the topic of Mila Kunis. Me, being the girl that lives under the rock, goes "I don't know anything about her except for the fact that she's pregnant", and my friend goes, "Well, Google it, then!"
So I do, and then all **** breaks loose.
I go to the toolbar in Google, everything's looking normal, and then I enter "Mila Kunis", and click on the first result that pops up (Wikipedia, basically). Now this is where it starts to go strange.
The result doesn't open at all; instead, it redirects me back to the Google homepage: www.google.com.hk. I have tried entering in different results in the Google toolbar, but when I click on any of the results, it always redirects me back to Google. The only way I can open the results given to me is by copying and pasting the URL that is sometimes displayed on the bottom of the link; if not, then I get, you guessed it, redirected back to Google. This can be very annoying as no one likes to enter in the URLs of websites manually.
I have tried many solutions, such as disabling add-ons, starting the laptop in safe-boot and deleting, as some high-tech professionals put it, "files that don't look like they belong". It seems that the problem resides within my laptop, as when I Google things on my phone and desktop computer, it works perfectly fine. Please help, I really don't know what to do.

From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    and confirm. Test.

  • I have a Time Capsule with 2tb of storage, and an I-Mac with 500Gb. (which is at capacity) Can I use the Time Capsule to store data in addition to backing up the hard drive?

I have a Time Capsule with 2tb of storage, and an I-Mac with 500Gb. (which is at capacity) Can I use the Time Capsule to store data from my hard drive that I want to access later in addition to backing up the hard drive?

Can I use the Time Capsule to store data from my hard drive that I want to access later in addition to backing up the hard drive?
Yes, but if you move the "original" data on your iMac to the Time Capsule....then the "original" data is now on the Time Capsule disk.
When...not if...the Time Capsule disk has a problem, you have no backups for this data.
Perhaps a much safer plan might be to add an external hard drive attached directly to your iMac. Then, move the data to that drive from the iMac.
Now, Time Machine will back up both your iMac and the external hard drive so you have "originals" on one drive and backups on another. Would that plan work for you?

  • How to re-flash a bricked WRT310N back to the correct firmware version

I accidently flashed my WRT310N version 1.0 with version 2.0 firmware. After which the router was dead as a doornail.
After a frustrating 3 hours of reading forums, following over 11 tutorials, and being 1 second away from throwing my WRT310N at the wall, I finally fixed it.
I performed this fix on a Windows 7 32-bit PC. My provider is Comcast.
    STEP 1:
Visit http://homesupport.cisco.com/en-us/wireless/lbc/WRT310N and click on the DOWNLOADS tab.
Select Version 1.0 firmware from the drop-down menu.
Download the appropriate firmware. At this time this was posted, the version is 1.0.10 build 2.
SAVE the firmware to your desktop.
Download TFTP2.exe and SAVE it to your desktop.
    Firmware
    09/09/2010
    Ver.1.0.10 build 2
    Download 3.08 MB
    STEP 2:
Open up a command prompt by going to the start menu, type "cmd" and hit enter.
You should see C:\Users\abc> (where "abc" is your username).
Type in ping -t 192.168.1.1 -w 10 but DON'T HIT ENTER yet. Just have it ready so you can press enter later.
    STEP 3:
Launch TFTP2.exe located on your desktop.
In the "server" field type: 192.168.1.1
    Leave the "password" field blank.
In the "file" field, browse to the firmware file you previously saved to your desktop.
Set the "program retry" to 10 times. (any number above 10 is fine)
DON'T HIT UPGRADE YET. Just have it ready so you can press upgrade later.
    STEP 4:
Go to your Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections.
Right-click on your active "Local Area Connection" and go to "Properties"
Highlight the "Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)" item and then click "Properties"
Change the automatic settings and set a static IP of 192.168.1.2. Hit OK and back out of the network settings.
    STEP 5:
If your router is farther away from your computer, try to pull it within reach of the mouse and keyboard. You will need to multi-task once pinging/flashing begins.
Make sure you only have one ethernet cable connected from your PC to the router. The cable should be connected to any one of the 4 blue ports. I connected mine to port 1. DO NOT CONNECT IT TO THE YELLOW INTERNET PORT on the router.
With the router in your hand, hold down the reset button for 30 seconds until the port 1 light goes out then immediately disconnect the power while still holding down the reset button. DO NOT LET GO OF THE RESET BUTTON!
WAIT 30 more seconds with the power disconnected. (Do not let go of the reset button)
PLUG the power back in and WAIT another 30 seconds. After that, let go of the reset button. You should have held the reset button for a total of 90 seconds. This will wipe the router's nvram.
    STEP 6:
    PREPARE FOR FLASHING!
Bring up the command prompt window that you prepared earlier. You should still see the ping command that you entered in Step 2. Now, hit ENTER to start pinging the router continuously. You will probably see a bunch of "request timed out" responses.
Bring up the TFT2.exe window that you prepared in step 2. Press UPGRADE so it can begin communicating with the router. Make sure you set at least 10 retries.
As quickly as possible, go back to your router and HOLD the reset button and disconnect the power. You don't need to wait 30 seconds...5 seconds is enough. While stil holding the reset button down, plug the power back into the router and keep an eye on the command prompt and TFT2.exe windows.
If the command prompt has successfully pinged the router, TFT2.exe will begin to flash it and very soon it will show a success message below the progress bar. If you still can't successfully ping the router, close and restart TFT2.exe using the same settings and try disconnecting/reconnecting the router's power again as mentioned in the paragraph above. You may want to try holding  the reset button down longer than 5 seconds. I was able to get this to work on the FIRST TRY. Hopefully it works for you.
WHAT TO DO AFTER SUCCESSFULLY RE-FLASHING YOUR ROUTER
Now that your router is has the proper firmware, go back to your adapter's settings (mentioned in step 4), delete the static IP and set it back to the default automatic settings.
Plug your cables back in and don't forget to plug the ethernet cable from your modem to the yellow internet port on your WRT310N.
Just to be safe, you should probably do these three things:
"Recycle" the power to your cable modem by holding down the reset for 60 seconds or disconnect it from the power outlet for 60 seconds.
Reset your router by holding the reset button for 30 seconds. (No need to disconnect the power while holding it.)
    Restart your computer.
    SUCCESS!! Good luck.

I tried it alot of times, during the last 2 days! Not working at all..
im using Windows 7 64-Bits PC.
