I just got a MacBook Pro for college, and I'm wondering if it is safe to download adobe flash player on it?

It is safe, although Flash is a pretty hefty pig sometimes and sometimes causes performance problems.
(I use Click2Flash Safari extension, so I only run the flash stuff when I must have it.)
Make sure you are downloading it from Adobe.
Don't respond to other website attempts to give it to you.

i Usually visits sites with flash content.and i know what to do with windows.
but on mac its a different story.

That might have been true for the 13" Intel HD 3000 graphics models, but the newer machines with Intel HD 4000 have a bit more kick in the CPU graphics.

No it's not bad, it's just that the late Steve Jobs came out publicly against Flash because it couldn't run on the new low performance devices like iPads and iPhones that he was serving up.
So a lot of young people took it as a mission to kill Flash and bad mouth it to death.
What you do have to do, like you need to do with any browser plug-in or software, is be careful from where you install it from as there are many websites that will try to trick one into installing a fake one.
Many people thus tricked into installing a trojan immediately blame Flash as the cause, when it's not.
Also you have to keep it updated, but using a browser like Chrome will do it for you and Firefox will not let you run outdated web browser plugins.
Safari also blocks outdated plugins, but Apple is very slow to issue updates so it's almost worthless.

Now it dowloads but the problem is that when I go try to play the game it still says I am missing a plug-in. I just purchased my first MacBook Pro and am trying to get everything set up and installed. I purchased Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 and retrieved my serial number and have the redemption code -- but I can't figure out how to install Photoshop without a DVD drive. The Photoshop package I purchased only provides DVDs and I don't have a DVD drive. Is there a website I can go to to install Photoshop and enter my serial number or redemption code?

I'm having trouble installing Adobe Flash player for my new MacBook Air. All seems fine, but then it is not recognized when I go back to use it and I'm told to download and install it again. Is there another version I should use or something to do differently?

If anyone else is having the issue where the Flash install is asking you to close Safari when you know it's closed, try this:
1. Open activity monitor: Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor
2. Find a process called WebkitPluginAgent and force that to quit.
3. Then retry the flash install.
The above solution fixed the problem for me in OS X 10.10.1 . You can force it to quit by clicking the X in the upper left corner of the Activity Monitor window. After selecting WebkitPluginAgent.
