Is it safe to install the new Java OS 10.6 Update 1 ?

i am asking because i have been reading that few people having problems after they install this update. so i would take any advice in wether i should install it or not .

can you tell me the steps to do on the disk utility to make sure your system is running fine .
I use Disk Utility to "Repair Permissions" on a regular basis, especially when I'm making changes by installing system updates or before upgrading to the newest MacOS.
When you launch Disk Utility you will see your drives in a list in the left side of the window. Below the actual hard drive you will see an indented list of partitions on the drive. You may only see one partition, or many depending on how your drive is configured. Click on the boot partition (probably named Macintosh HD) and then click on the "Repair Disk Permissions" button near the bottom center of the window.
I usually uncheck the "Show Details" box because almost all of the information about files being changed and no changes to permissions are worthless for the average user. All I want to see is the final "Permissions repair complete" message when the work is done.
You can also click on the main drive listing, and choose to "Verify" the drives structure. This will make sure that the different file management systems that keep track of your files locations and cross-references (and a bunch of other drive/system attributes) are properly set up and the details check out. I would suggest doing this whenever your system crashes during a power outage or other strange file related problems pop up "for no reason"...
If problems are found while verifying a drive you can try to "Repair Disk", but that ability is limited from the running OS, and serious damage may require other programs like Disk Warrior. I wouldn't worry about this unless you start having problems and can't Verify or Repair the Disk.
Many Mac users go for years without having to worry about Disk Utility at all. Some of them don't even know the program exists and are quite happy with that lack of concern . Others, who are constantly installing new programs and tweaking their systems and running Beta programs will want to run the Disk Utility program more often. YMMV
