Is it safe to migrate my MobileMe account to iCloud?

I've held off on doing this since hearing about issues with syncing and especially shared calendars.  What is the atmosphere now?  Are there lingering issues?
Have most MM users had a good migration to iCloud?
Thanks for your feedback.  Always appreciated.
Marcus

Yes, I am fully aware.  I am posting from my "work" Mac in my office.
I appreciate your attention to detail though.

I did not move my Mobileme account to iCloud. How can I get off the iCloud mailing list?

If you migrated your MobileMe account before 1 August you should have signed into System Preferences>iCloud with it, and you would be able to see your calendars, bookmarks and emails on the iCloud website. Is this the case? Did you sign into iCloud with your @me.com address?
If you did not migrate your MobileMe account you can no longer do so.
If you did migrate, did you do so from a full MobileMe account or from a Family Pack sub-account? the latter did not get the complimentary storage (because their iDisks were only 5GB anyway).
If you had a full MobileMe account, check on your Mac - System Preferences>iCloud - and see whether that shows the upgrade. If it doesn't, you probably need to contact Support: if you currently happen to have AppleCare, either because you recently bought Apple hardware or have paid to extend the inititial period, you can contact them here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/
You will need the serial number of the covered hardware.
If you are not covered by AppleCare, then - in common with other free email services - there is no free support (MobileMe Support is no longer available) and you may be asked to pay a fee: in this case you should ask them to deal with it without cost (and hope they agree).
Note that you haven't paid anything for your MobileMe storage since your first renewal date after 6 June 2011, and iCloud costs nothing unless you specifically choose to upgrade the storage. Note also the iCloud storage is not general file storage in the manner of the iDisk but is restricted to iOS device Backup, Mail, Photo Journal and Documents.

  • I want to abandon my MobileMe account, but iCloud Setup insists on using it

I just installed the Lion update for iCloud support.  I have a MobileMe account, mainly used for syncing between Mac and iPhone.  I use a different account for iTunes and developer, and want to use that one as my single Apple ID.  When I go into System Preferences for iCloud, it wants to migrate my MobileMe account, and there is no option to start with a different id.
    - Can I get iCloud to setup with my other Apple ID?
    - If I start with the MobileMe migration, can I then ditch it and use the other ID instead?
    Thanks for any pointers.

That's where I tried to start, but this is what I see, with no option to bypass MobileMe:

  • I updated my MobileMe account to iCloud, but I missed all my important emails

I updated my MobileMe account to iCloud last week. And I can not connet to mail account for almost one week. After I change the password, it works. But I missed all my important emails? Any one can help me?

Your signature says you are using 10.6.8 - this cannot work with iCloud. 10.7.2 is required (as you were warned during the migration process), and if your Mac has the specification for it you should consider upgrading (though be aware that old PPC programs such as Appleworks will no longer work).
This is the situation on Snow Leopard when you have migrated from MobileMe:
Your email, calendars, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud. Contacts and Bookmarks cannot be migrated from a Snow Leopard Mac.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email and calendars on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.  BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).
The requirements for upgrading to Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is $29.99 and is obtained from the Mac App Store.

  • Old MobileMe account to iCloud?

Hello there! I used to have earlier MobileMe account and it was a different accout than my iTunes username (@mac.com). When MobileMe was closed I tried to transfer that account to my normal [email protected] account which I'm using with iTunes, iTunes Store and now also with iCloud (mobileme was [email protected]). I tried to contact Apple to have this bigger storage in iCloud because I had paid full amount of using MobileMe. But I couldn't merge there two accounts.
Does anybody know is it still possible to "join" an old MobileMe account information to iCloud account? I would like to have a bigger iCloud storage.
    cheers,
    -Jere

I'm afraid you can't merge two accounts. You did migrate your MobileMe account before 1 August? You can add it into your Mac in System Preferences>Mail, Contacts and Calendars to be the 'secondary account' so that the email and calendars and contacts syncing can run alongside the primary account (though you can't use PhotoStream with it).
Or you could use it as your primary account if you haven't gone too far in putting data on the present one - there's no problem about having one ID for iTunes and another for iCloud: or swop them over and use your present iCloud ID as the secondary account and the ex-MobileMe one as the main account.

  • How to move MobileMe Account to iCloud?

I tried logging in my iCloud account and got this message:
"Go to me.com on your computer to move your information to iCloud".   PRESS "OK"
I did that by going to my pc  and logged into www.me.com but somehow can't configure how to move MobileMe account to ICloud. Rather  i don't understand this Terrm.

  • Mobileme account to iCloud

If I migrate my mobileme email account to iCloud, will I not have access to my mail on a Mac that can't run Lion?

If I migrate my mobileme email account to iCloud
You need to be running v10.7.2 Lion in order to use iCloud.
Click here >  Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices. The select Mac.
You'll see iCloud requirements on the left.
If you decide to upgrade to Lion make sure your Mac meets Lion's requirements here.

  • Where is my "free" 20GB from MobileMe account to iCloud?

    Hello,
I finalized my transition from MobileMe to iCloud.  I know that current MobileMe subscribers are entitled to an additional 20GB on iCloud for free (regularly at $40/yr).  However, when I completed my transition, I did not see my free storage.  Do I need to go through the "upgrade your storage" process as if I am about to pay for it?  Or was it supposed to happen automatically and it didn't?
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    icfirat

Did you have a full MobileMe account, or a Family Pack sub-account? - the latter can be migrated to iCloud but do not get the free 20GB.
If you had a full MobileMe account and cannot find your 20GB you probably need to contact Support:

  • I can't merge my mobileME account with iCloud.

I am having problems, and seem to keep going in circles when trying to merge my mobile Me account to iCloud.  I have an iphone that I want to be able to synch my photostream with.  It just won't seem to allow me to see those pics.  I can't figure it out.   I have repeatedly followed the instruction and have gotten NO WHERE!  Sooooo frustrating.

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
What keeps popping up telling you you have Mobile Me. If you mean you are getting email stating this, it's telling you that you're mobile me service will expire in June.

  • TS4036 How do I move my mobileme account to iCloud?

I was recently given an iPad 1st generation and erased all settings and content in order to activate it with MY appleID/icloud. So i went to restore from iCloud back up, but it gives me a pop up that tells me to move all of my mobileme info to my iCloud account. I went to me.com to do so, and it's obviously no longer up. What now?

See this tip what you can migrate while still using 10.6.8, and what you can't https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2551

  • Moving My Daughter's MobileMe Account to iCloud

My 11 year old daughter has a .ME account set up under my master account as part of the Family Pack. Up until now, if she wanted to download an app onto her 4th Gen. iPod Touch she'd have to come to me and ask me to enter in my accounts password. Nice safety valve. Well, as the family is now moving to iCloud, I want to still have some control over what apps she can and can't download, and also have it go to my master credit card if she DOES buy an app (most of what she downloads are free games). As she has her own piece of the "cloud" in our account now, is it really just a parental controls issue to be able to keep track of what she's downloading, or is there some particular way to set up a child's account for maximum control, without having apps and calendars getting all mixed up between us?---Thanks!

So iCloud calendar, contacts, etc. it'll be her AppleID used, and anything to do with the App Store, it'll still just be MY Apple ID? What will stop her kids game apps, or MY apps from cross pollinating to each others devices with this iCloud business?

  • Upgraded mobileme account to icloud by mistake.

My mac can not run Lion. I'm running 10.5.8.  How do I reset syncing back to mobileme. My calendars and contacts are all screwed up

Click the Sync icon in your menu bar or open System Preferences > MobileMe.
Select the Sync icon the select:  Synchronize with MobileMe then click Sync Now
You can use the Sync icon in the status menu bar top right side of your Mac screen.
If you don't see it, select: Show Sync status in menu bar bottom of the System Preferences / MobileMe - Sync pane.

If you migrated your MobileMe account to iCloud, on your phone you should be able go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and enter the Apple ID associated with your iCloud account.  On your desktop computer, you can configure your email client to get your @me.com email by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.
