Is it safe to uninstall older versions of Adobe Acrobat?

It is safe to remove older versions of Adobe Acrobat?  I currently have:
Adobe Acrobat 8 Prof
Adobe Acrobat X Standard
Adobe Acrobat XI Standard
The reason I ask is I keep getting Update Adobe Acrobat X and it error's off.  So, is it safe to remove 8 and X?
Thanks!

yes, each installation is independent of the others.  in addition, there are known issues when trying to use some of the older acrobat versions together like you're doing.

You can use the Acrobat Cleaner Tool from http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

  • Safe to uninstall older versions of PS?

Years ago I upgraded from Photoshop CS4 to CS6. Is it safe to uninstall CS4? In the old days an upgrade updated your existing software. Now it appears the upgrade is really a whole different install of the software. If for some reason I have to reinstall CS6, would I need to reinstall CS4 first? Thxs.

Looks like there ended up being a problem after I uninstalled PS CS4. This box up box appears when I start PS CS6.
Now I can click out of it and still use CS6. But this box always pops up on start up. If there are files or functions missing I haven't discovered the problem yet. I have Time Machine hooked up to an external drive. Can I use that to undo the uninstall of CS4?

  • Uninstall older Versions of Adobe

Yes I previously have 'Adobe Reader X 10.1.7.and already updated to the newer version XI(11.0.06). I SHOULD be able to UNINSTAL the older vers., of the 2 correct??  Same Question with Flash PlayerXII ActiveX. That could be Updated,BUT THEN can I uninstall that as well??? HEELLPP!!!  Thanks. Petereno

That should happen automatically when you install a newer version.
Sometimes these things go away when restarting Windows.  If not, uninstall all versions using
    http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
then reinstall the latest versions from

  • Deleting/Uninstalling Older Versions of Adobe Photoshop/Reader

I would love to know the answer to this question:
After Adobe updates my current versions of Adobe Photoshop Starter, and my Adobe Reader, can I go to add/remove, or search files, and uninstall or delete everything that has to do with the older versions that I no longer use?
Recently my Adobe Reader updated to version 7. My computer came with Adobe Reader 4.0. So, that means I have versions 4, 5, and 6 (Adobe Reader), in my system, on my hard drive, and in add/remove programs.
Also, just yesterday, my Adobe Photoshop starter edition offered me an upgrade from version 2, to version 3. In this case, although the icon for version 2 remained on my desktop, a new icon for version 3 was created, and when I try to open the v. 2, windows cannot locate it..meaning of course it has been superceded by version 3.
So the simple question is this....do these Adobe versions share drivers? Can I uninstall or delete from add/remove programs, anything that has to do with the older versions of either of these programs? Especially the Adobe Reader stuff. I have an Icon on my desktop for each of these older versions, and if I open those icons its the older version that actually come up.
So, any advice? Leave well enough alone? Remove the older verisons to take back some of my hard drive space?
    Help!
    Thanks,
    Russell Munson

    thanks jim.
i appreciate the direct answer to my question.
my adobe reader update came directly from the older version of the adobe
    reader.
in other words, i opened adobe 6.0 one day, and it either told me
automatically or i checked for a newer update, and it updated to 7.0.
but, when this update occured, it removed, or automtically uninstalled the
6.0 version from my add remove files.
and yet, the 5.0 and the 4.0 version are still in there.
so lets say i go ahead and uninstall both of those two older versions from
my add remove programs and leave the 7.0 version in there. and then i
have trouble with the newest version.
where would i go to re-download the 7.0 adobe reader? adobe.com i assume?
i appreciate your help my freind.
    thank you

  • How to uninstall trial version of Adobe Acrobat Pro from a mac?

I installed a trial version Adobe Acrobat Pro from the Creative Cloud list on my Mac Pro 10.7.5. First, although I was supposed to have a 30 day free trial, it expired immediately. Worse, every time I try to open my former Adober Acrobat, I get prompted to buy a yearly subscription to Acrobat pro and cannot use my older version. I have tried various ways to uninstall the Acrobat Pro version and to get back to normal, with no success. Anyone out there to help or must I spend money on an international call to ask Adobe what to do? It seems that they have shut down their "chat" service. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you. Robert

This is not a Technical Communications Suite product. If this is AE CS4 you can try the CS4 Clean Script:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
If that fails, try the Microsoft Installer Cleanup Tool.
If that fails try the AE forum.

  • Cannot completely uninstalled trial version of Adobe Acrobat Professional 9

    Hi,
I've downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 as a 30-day trial. When 15 days or so have passed, I've decided to discontinue my use and uninstalled the trial version via Control Panel - Programs and Features. However the program refuses to go away. When I install Acrobat Reader 9 it tells me that I already have Adobe Acrobat Pro and should decide to choose one as the default PDF file-handler. Now once in a while when I open a PDF file the Pro trial window would pop-up and ask me to enter a key or choose the trial version. When I choose the trial version it then says that an error has occurred when loading the trial information, or something like that.
I've looked for the Pro folder/files throughout my computer and found nothing. I've tried Microsoft's Windows Install Clean Up utility and removed Pro from the program list there, however that did not change anything. I still get the trial pop-up and the error message that follows (see attachments).
    Any thoughts?

If the executable is removed, then it is not possible to run it anymore.  Therefore the uninstall did not really remove everything.
Can you check if there is anything left in Program Files\Common Files\Adobe?
If you really cannot find what's running, try Process Monitor from Sysinternals to see what's running when you open a PDF file.

  • Safe to uninstall older versions ?

I have installed Photoshop CS originally then upgraded to CS2 and CS3 when they came out. I know this is a silly question, but is it safe for me to uninstall CS and CS2 ? I am running out of space on my powerbook (and yes, I have that many applications that I do run out of space)
    Thanks

those apps don't take up that much space, if clearing those two apps makes that big a difference then your drive is too small. You need to remove document files or get a bigger hard drive. CS3 does not come with Imageready so if you use that app leave CS2 on your machine, as you will need to uninstall CS3 before you can reinstall CS2.

  • Attempting to uninstall older version of Adobe flashplayer:

I am prompted to close an application (Live Messenger), but it IS closed.  I cannot proce
ed to uninstall until the conflicting application is closed and there is nothing else I can do
. Has anyone else had this happen and how were you able to correct it? THANKS

thanks very much.  I was wondering about uninstalling it, but then I would have to uninstall ALL of the 'windows live'
stuff...and I didn't know if that would make some of my software inoperable...yes I may be brain

  • Uninstall older versions of Flash Player?

I just installed the latest update for Flash Player...can I now uninstall older versions?

    Yes, you can.
It is best to use the uninstaller from Adobe. It is on this page:
    http://http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
    Follow the instructions.
Because I am having problems with getting Flash Player that works on my pc, I have saved the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller to my desktop. It is helpful not having to go back to the Adobe page to get it when I need it.
After uninstalling old versions of Flash Player, remember to check that the new version you keep is installed correcly and working properly, go to the Adobe "Find Version" page and follow the instructions there.
    Here:
    http://http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html#main_Find_the _Flash_Player_version_installed_on_your_machine
    Hope this helps.

    +It says it can't find QuickTime.msi+
Okay, if you're getting that message in addition to the the other messages, try the following procedure.
Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility:
Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility
Now launch Windows Installer CleanUp ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"), find any QuickTime entries in the list of programs in CleanUp, select those QuickTime entries, and click “remove”.
Next, we'll manually remove any leftover QuickTime program files:
    (1) Open Local Disk (C:) in Computer or whichever disk programs are installed on.
    (2) Open the Program Files folder.
    (3) Right-click the QuickTime folder and select Delete and choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion. (Note: This folder may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (4) Delete the QuickTime and QuicktimeVR files located in the C:\Windows\system32\ folder. Click Continue if Windows needs confirmation or permission to continue. (Note: These files may have already been deleted if QuickTime was successfully removed using Add/Remove Programs earlier.)
    (6) Right-click on the Recycle Bin and on the shortcut menu, click Empty Recycle Bin.
    (7) Restart your computer.
Does an install go through properly now?

  • I downloaded  reader 11.3, do i need to uninstall older versions ?

i downloaded reader 11.3 ,do i need to uninstall older versions ?

If you have Reader 10.x or 11.x installed, there is no need to uninstall.  Older, or much older versions should be uninstalled before installing a much newer version.

Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from the following page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATION" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
To install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up").
In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any QuickTime entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC. Now try another QuickTime install. Does it go through properly this time?
