Is it safe to update my iPad 1st gen to 4.3?

Hello all,
Thank you all for commenting on my other posts. After many of you chimed in on whether I should buy an iPad 1st gen refurb or buy an iPad 2 I bought the refurb. It's been a great purchase! My iPad came with iOS 4.2. With all the horror stories about updating iPads I have held off on updating to 4.3. I would love to get your feedback on whether it is okay or not to update to 4.3.
I don't trust Apple's recommendations lately. I updated my iPod touch 3rd gen based on Apple stating that the 3rd gen is supported in the new iOS. The new iOS killed my battery! I ended up buying another iPod. Several posts have confirmed this to be the case with many others who did the same update. So before I update my iPad I would like feedback about updating it.

I too have updated every iDevice that I own with every update that comes out very time an update comes out. I hope that makes sense to you. No problems whatsoever including battery issues on 3 iPod Touch 4G and my original iPad.
I do have some concerns that we have two Kings in Britain/Briton with a royal wedding coming up I think you guys would have other concerns!

Ipad 1st gen: Pinterest no longer working in Safari

I have an Ipad 1st Gen. I have been using Pinterest in Safari with no problems...until now. When I try to go to the website in Safari, it automatically redirects me to download the app. Is there a way to fix this?
I cannot download the app because my IOS is updated as far as it can go, and the Pinterest app requires an IOS higher than what I have.

Ii's not just 1st gen iPads. I have the same issue with my iPad 3. Whether I clickEd my bookmark or manually typed the Pinterest URL, I was immediate redirected to the app. I don't like the Pinterest app, so I deleted it. Now when I try to go to the website, I am redirected to the App Store. So frustrating!
ive complained to Pinterest via Twitter and left a one-star review in the App Store, but have not received a reply, nor have I been able to find a workaround. For now, I'm using Pinterest only on my desktop computer, but I really miss browsing Pinterest on my iPad.

Wifi connection problem between iPhone 4s iOS 6.0.1 and iPad 1st gen. iOS 5.0. What do I need to do? I've reset the network on each and nothing. Please help.

Some things to try first:
1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
5. Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
    •    Launch Settings app
    •    Tap on Wi-Fi
    •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
    •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

How to install a later version of iBooks for iPad 1st gen.

I am wanting to install iBooks on an iPad 1st gen, however the current version 3.2 will not work because the 1st gen is incapable to update the software past 5.1.1. How can I install a later version of iBooks such as 2.1.1?

I am using iPad (Wi-Fi only) from last 2 years mainly for web surfing and emails. iOS 5 is sure slick and tempting. Should I upgrade or not? I dont want iPad to get sluggish after update, in that way I am better off with iOS 4.2.1 running smoothly on it. Help pls.!

But it would certainly help safari from crashing.     Still.
I wouldn't,t say that 5.1.1 is the LAST UPGRADE.          Apple might still do something.

Crash after restoring iPad 1st GEN

Hello all,
Okay, I have an iPad 1st gen and until today it had never been synced with a computer.
So I installed iTunes my entered apple id and password then began downloading the iOS update. (so far so good)
I synced and made a backup restore of ipad and began installing iOS update
upon completion of the installation which took like an hour or more, i was greeted with an error that said it had failed to update and recommended restoring
it. So I obliged and started the restore process now the ipad wants me too set it up, thats fine with me.
Well partway through the setup it asks me for a sim and PUK number which I do not have because this iPad has never had a sim in it ever?
I run internet off of it using a Verizon MIFI box and now I cant finish the installation without a sim? it has never had one so what do I do?
The installation wont complete without a sim so what do I do?

i think restoring your ipad should solve your problem! even i have an ipad 1! and it works absolutely fine ! the only app i have seen crashing is infinity blade( that to works in 2-3 times)!
also u can try hard rebooting your ipad!
and ur worry aboout apps being for ipad 2 and new! there are separate apps for them which you will be told while downloading that are incompatible with your ipad!
so i think restoring shoudl do the trick! first try hard reboot! i.e ipad power off!

Will my Ipad 1st Gen become Obsolete as of Feb 2013

Due to the apple deadline of making all apps ios7 ready by febuary will this mean that my Ist gen ipad will become 80% uselss,
Since the 1st gens can not update past ios5. I know with previous iphones any apps that funtion at a lower ios will not work.

When I search ios 4: I only get 48 apps. The first couple I clicked were actualy not compatible with ios 4. most of them were non rated-3 star games
When I search ios 5: I get 46 apps most are games or refrence and 19 of them were in another language....
I'm sure there are apps out there that don't fall under this type of search, but again I get frustrated when I see an app I would like to use and find out that I cant download it. Especially when I have only had it for 3 years.
I also understand that it costs money for app companies to host an app that backtracks to previous ios systems. Do I really believe that companies will continue to pay for hosting on an app that only pleases a small popualtion of ipad 1st gen users? It dosnt make any business sense.
I am just trying to figure out if my device is worth keeping or trying to sell it now while it might be worth something.
I love apple products but I get really frustrated when I have a 500$ piece of equipment that runs 100% fine but will be so limited to only ever use the apps I have now. Its an easy choice for me to choose purchasing apple products because for me they last way longer than any other brands I have tried. 3 years for a 500$ product just doesn't sound right to me when it works fine.

Some books form iTunes Store makes iBooks crash on iPad 1st Gen

I have had this problem only once before when I bought "The Fifth Witness" by Michael Connelly.
It would open to the first page and then automatically go back the the home page. I would try again and noticed the little dots at the bottom
move 1/4 to half way and iBooks would crash again! This became very frustrating as there is no explanation online about this particular
problem.
Then my wife got her iPad 2 and I downloaded the same book to hers and it loaded without a problem!
The same thing happened this week when I bought "Foundation".. it just crashes on my iPad 1st gen but not on the iPad 2.
I have even tried closing all other aplications as to give iBooks all the resources my iPad has to offer, and the same thing happened.
I love the new iPad but cant put reason to buying a new one because there is nothing wrong with my old one.
From my experience it appears as though some of the books in the iTunes store are only compatible with the new generation devices.
This leaves the rest of us who have devices that are barely a year old to find other ways to use the item we have purchased for use on Apple products!
I know I'm not the only person having this particular problem. My wife and I own quite a few apple products. This is the only one that frustrates me.
Apple please fix this one!
