Is it safe to upgrade RAM
I have a 2008 Macbook Pro. Currently I have the standard 1x1GB RAM, and I just received 2x2GB from a colleague. Is it safe to install?
Thanks!
Is the RAM that you received compatible with your MBP? If it is not it will not work. Check your users manual for the exact RAM specifications for your MBP and ask your colleague if he knows same for the two 2GB RAM chip. Installing incompatible RAM won't harm your MBP but it is a pointless exercise of you know ahead of time.
Ciao.

Should I upgrade RAM or HDD to SSD on my Mac mini mid 2010?
Hello,
I have a mid 2010 Mac mini with 2GB of RAM. My apps like E-Mail, Safari, Google Chrome and others are starting slow and sometimes running slow. Should I upgrade RAM to 4GB or 8GB or replace my 320GB HDD to SSD?
Thank you yor help, DZetkoYou are running a Core 2 Duo. Even a duck has paddling limitations. You are running Mountain Lion on a 2GB machine and it is starved for RAM. The performance is gravitational.
Upgrade your machine via the preceding MacSales link to matching 4GB modules for 8GB. I believe you will be astonished at the improvement. Make certain that you have used Disk Utility to verify/repair your system preferences, and then verify the boot drive while in Disk Utility.
In your login directory (~) go into the Library/Caches folder, select everything in it and move to Trash. Don't bother to empty the Trash just yet. Shutdown your mini.
Now, power on your mini. At the chime, press and hold the shift key until you see a grey horizontal progress bar. At the login window, press and hold the shift key again as you press the right-arrow icon to login. Release the shift key when the Finder menu bar appears. You are now in Safe Boot Mode. Empty the Trash. Reboot normally.
This just did a series of house-cleaning steps for you. It removed and/or rebuilt system cache files, including the Fonts cache. It also rebuilt the database governing the open with ... menu. So, if you had any duplication in there, they are repaired. Safe Boot Mode also does a low-level inspection of your boot drive. You should see some additional performance improvement. I do a Safe Boot Mode about once a month as routine maintenance.
With the improvements I have suggested and preceding pointers, you should have a 2010 Mac mini working as well as it can with Mountain Lion and a SATA II hard drive. -
Upgrading RAM and SSD on MacBook Pro 15" mid 2009
Hey,
I want to upgrade RAM and SSD on my macbook pro, identifier 5,3, and I want to make sure the parts I picked will be compatible with my Macbook.
I'm specifically not sure about its support of 512GB.
I thought about RAM:

SSD:

Thanks!" I have also created a back up on Time Machine (I think I did)."
Check this out:

Once you think you've done it correctly restart and hold down the option key or go to "System Preferences" under the Apple and look at "Startup Disk".
That will tell which Disks are bootable.
Now about that Crucial drive:

It's not clear to me that this issue was resolved. The last post goes nowhere!
I always use OWC:

Just did two including this MacBook Pro early 2011 13" and a 2012 Mini. Total no-brainer! The way I like it. -
Is it safe to upgrade to iTunes 8 on Windows Vista (32-bit)
For the last few months after iTunes 8 has been released, I've seen post after post from folks who say that the upgrade process is less than perfect and in many cases causes lower level issues on their computer post-upgrade. I have iTunes 7.7.1.11, and each time I'm prompted to upgrade to version 8, I pass it up.
Is it safe to upgrade now, or does the iTunes/Windows community still hold reservations on the success of an upgrade and it should be done more at the caution to the user to proceed at their own risk, or is it once in a blue moon that a user would run into issues upgrading to iTunes 8 while running Windows Vista?
Also have folks tried iTunes 8 on Windows 7 and do they see any more positive results from that than on Vista?
Cheers,
GeorgeIn regards to Windown 7 Beta... I upgraded iTunes yesterday to 8.0.2 (never could get the 8.0.1 installer to work, even under WinXP). So far it's not been pleasant. I plugged by 80G Classic in to sync and it didn't want to eject. Windows and iTunes were fighting over the thing. The iPod synced and tried to auto-eject, then windows said "hey! here's a removable disk! What ya want me to do with it?" I told windows to ignore it (Cancel) and iTunes started syncing the iPod again. Lather, Rinse, Repeat... I was finally able to get it timed just right to unplug it during the split second that it showed the OK to disconnect screen and all appears OK on the pod for now. I'm not too happy at this point. I do still have 8.0.0.35 on my XP install.. may end up using that and uninstalling 8.0.2 if it doesn't clear up.

Will upgrading ram improve speed in Mac and windows (VMware fusion)?
I Am using VMware fusion for music production and that program requires a lot of workspace. I have a MacBook Pro 4gb ram and when I turn VMware on it goes to 2 gb ram in Mac and 2 gb ram in windows. My Mac speed is normal when VMware fusion is turned off but when I turn it on my Mac is very slow. Will upgrading ram improve speed in mac and also in windows (windows is also very slow)
Btw my english isn't very goodAdding RAM only makes it possible to run more programs concurrently. It doesn't speed up the computer nor make games run faster. What it can do is prevent the system from having to use disk-based VM when it runs out of RAM because you are trying to run too many applications concurrently or using applications that are extremely RAM hungry. It will improve the performance of applications that run mostly in RAM or when loading programs.
In your case it will most likely help. You should plan on at least 8 GBs or more, depending upon what your model supports. -

How do you make RAM faster without upgrading RAM?
I have a Mac Mini 2014 and you can't upgrade RAM in it. Is there a way to make my RAM faster?
iMovie_Maker wrote:
Do you think 4 GB is enough
Enough for what?
The engine in my car puts out 200 HP. That's more than enough given the power to weight ratio of the vehicle and considering the type of driving I do with it commuting to work and the occasional road trip. If fails miserably when attempting to drag race the guy down the street with the Dodge Viper putting out somewhere around 660 HP. -
Info on upgrading RAM and Hard Disk on late-2011 Macbook Pro
Hello everyone,
I would like some info from anyone regarding upgrading RAM on my macbook pro (13inch, late 2011 model) from 4GB to 8GB. Will the notebok support 8GB and if so, is it something that you can do yourself or should it be taken to an Apple store ?
Also, my notebook currently has a 320GB hard-disk drive, that I would like to swap for a 320GB/480GB SSD. Again, which models are compatible with my notebook, and whether I can swap it out myself, or should I let an Apple technician at the store do it for me?
Thanks and regards to all ..Yes. You can upgrade that machine to 8 GB. I have the same machine. I think you can do 16 GB but the RAM is quite a bit more money. You can do it yourself with a small enough screwdriver. I doubt the Apple Store would install 3rd party RAM and you don't want to pay Apple prices for it.
A hard drive is about the same. Once you open the case, you can replace both. I suggest OWC. They have the tools, instructions, the RAM, the hard drives, etc. They even sell external enclosure kits so you can upgrade your internal drive and use the old drive an an external for archiving data. -
Please help! I don't want to have to get a new hard drive. My warentee has now expired. Is it safe to upgrade? The service person I talked to said that it had happened to quite a few MacBook Airs.

Is it possible to upgrade RAM in MacbookAir 4,1?
Is it possible to upgrade RAM in MacbookAir 4,1 Late 2011, 2G to 4G?
MacBook Airs are designed with a purpose that differentiates them from the rest of the Macbook line. That is to place weight and size reduction at one of the highest of priorities. In doing so, compromises have to be made. Upgradeable memory takes up addional space, in that it requires acessability and a slot interface, bot of which would add both weight and dimensional size to accomodate it. By making the memory an integral part of the logicboard, the computer can be made thinner.
So, when you buy somthing of the MBA's form factor, you have to pay special attention to buying the computer with all the options available at time of purchase that you & the computer will ever need, where those components are not upgradeable for space and weight consideration.
The MacBook Air, despite the desire, is not just a shrunken MacBook Pro. Space and weight savings is of a higher priority than is upgradeability in the MBA. -

and I'm a bit nervous abut those two warnings. Is it safe to upgrade my xorg-server in this case?
I don't know if the bug was ever fixed so I don't know if I can upgrade nvidia...I did the upgrade and rebooted and my two screens are working fine. The bug with the latest nvidia was that it wouldn't run two screens.
Thank you both, for the responses.
BTW, yes, I upgrade more than once a month, but when there are no problems, I don't make a forum post.
