Is it safe to use my charger?

Happy New Year,
Can I use my MacBook Air's 45w charger in Kuwait with my old white Macbook which used to run with a 60w charger?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks everyone.

Although you should always use the proper wattage adapter for your Apple portable, you can use an adapter of a higher wattage without issue.
For instance If you have a MacBook (13-inch Late 2009) that normally uses a 60W adapter, you can also use an 85W adapter with that computer. You would not use a 45W adapter with that computer; it would not provide enough power for that MacBook.

    Of course it is ok.

    Check car manual to see if it supports charging ,some do not
    or use a USB 12 volt plug in for the "cigarrette lighter" socket and plug into that ,probably a better solution

  • A gold connector is missing on lightning charger cable. Is it still safe to use?

    One of the little gold connectors on the lightning charging cable is missing. Is it still safe to use?

    If a connector is missing then the cable is damaged and will no longer work as expected or at all. Get a new cable.

    Has there been any trouble with the charger?  I am getting ready to re-order but the one i had.... the had the power surge and the end was blackened.  Not sure if it safe to use the laptop again?  Thanks.

    Can you also see blackening in the power jack on the PowerBook? If so, I would be worried that the surge also damaged the computer/
    Does the computer run OK on just the battery? If it is working on battery power, that limits the number of things inside the computer that could have been fried.
    If the computer is severely damaged by the surge, it's not worth repairing. However, a couple of posters in Apple forums said their homeowners'/renters' insurance paid them replacement value of their computer after power surge damage due to known problems on the grid, like the huge power outage that hit the SW Untied Stats and part of Mexico yesterday.

  • Is it safe to use iPod while it's charging?

    Just wondering if it's safe to use the iPod while it's charging with an adapter?

    Not only is it safe, using it when charging prevents using up the battery. The battery has a finite number of charge/discharge cycles...

    According to specs yes. But being a 3rd party device you are subject to their quality.

    Its seems to be a good charger.

  • IPad cable/charger safe to use w/ iPhone?

    Is it safe to use the iPad sync cable and charger accessory (the ac adapter, not the one that came with the device) with iPhone or iPod? It would be convenient to not have to have separate cables laying around but I don't want to fry my stuff.

    The cables aren't or shouldn't be a problem, but the iPad's charger might be. It is possible to charge an iPad with the wall charger included with the iPhone or iPod, but charging will be slower with the iPad when doing so vs using the wall charger included with the iPad.
    Per this link, the Pad's wall charger indicates it is compatible with the iPad. No iPhone or iPod models are included.

  • Is it safe to use the Belkin power strip with USB ports to charge my iPad? Or is the iPad USB adapter the safest route to take when traveling with device?

    Is it safe to use the Belkin power strip with USB ports to charge my iPad?
    Or is it better to travel with the Wall Charger provided with iPad?
    Concerned about safety of the device. Thanks for your thoughts.

    The quickest way (and really the only way) to charge your iPad is with the included 10W USB Power Adapter. iPad will also charge, although more slowly, when attached to a computer with a high-power USB port (many recent Mac computers) or with an iPhone Power Adapter (5W). When attached to a computer via a standard USB port (most PCs or older Mac computers) iPad will charge very slowly (but iPad indicates not charging). Make sure your computer is on while charging iPad via USB. If iPad is connected to a computer that’s turned off or is in sleep or standby mode, the iPad battery will continue to drain.
    Apple recommends that once a month you let the iPad fully discharge & then recharge to 100%.
    How to Calibrate Your Mac, iPhone, or iPad Battery

    At this link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/galaxy-tab-android-tablet,3014-11.html , tests show that the iPad 2 battery (25 watt-hours) will charge to 90% in 3 hours 1 minute. It will charge to 100% in 4 hours 2 minutes. The new iPad has a larger capacity battery (42 watt-hours), so using the 10W charger will obviously take longer. If you are using your iPad while charging, it will take even longer. It's best to turn your new iPad OFF and charge over night. • Is it safe to use the iPad charger for the iPhone too?

    Is it safe to use the iPad mains charger for the iPhone too or should I have to take both mains chargers with me when I travel?

    Yep. Apple even states it is fine for all iPhone models:

  • Safe to use iPod (5W, 1A) charger for Kindle Touch?

    I have an older iPod charger and was wondering if it's safe to use with the Kindle Touch? I travel and carrying several chargers around isn't fun
    The output of the iPod charger (model A1205) is rated at:
    Power = 5W
    Current = 1A
    Voltage = Power / Current = 5V
    The Kindle Touch is rated at:
    Power = Current x Voltage = 0.5*5.25 = 2.625W
    Current = 0.5A
    Voltage = 5.25V
    (Note that the underlined values were not marked on the device but calculated based on the formula P=IV.)
    Appendix
    Here is how the iPod charger looks:
    Here is a closeup of the iPod charger specs:
    Here is a closeup of the Kindle Touch's specs:

    I thought so too. So as long as the potential power output of the charger is higher than the device, it should work fine? I mean, the Kindle will know to take only as much as it needs, right?
    (I called Amazon and they said to only use official Kindle chargers — as they would.)

  • Connector pin broken but charger still works, safe to use?

    On the power supply, at the end that plugs into the computer, the connector is cylindrical with a thin metal pin in the middle. That metal pin has broken off but the plug light still goes on when the connector is plugged in. Can I still continue to use the charger or will the computer be damaged? If not, I would appreciate an explanation as I am familiar with electronics. What is the function of the center pin? The plug end has a third prong for ground. Thanks in advance

    Thanks for your response. It's a T500. The powersupply with broken pin is 65w, but I've also used 90w and that works fine too. I looked at the hardware maintenance manual for the T500 and it has that exact same diagram. So the pin (2) has 0 V? So it's not needed?
    well... i'm not qualified to say "it's not needed". i can't imagine it being there if there wasn't some design purpose for it.
    i've got so many of these things laying around that if i had one with a broken pin, i'd just pitch it. i do realize, though, that not everyone has a big box of ThinkPad parts and accessories accumulated over more years that one might care to admit.
    cheers.

  • Is it safe to use the power adapter without the grounding pin?

    Is it safe to use the power adapter without the grounding pin?
    Last time I unplugged my power adapter the grounding pin stayed in the wall socket. Is it safe to use it with just the 2 prongs?

    Is it safe to use the power adapter without the grounding pin?
    No. If a short circuit occurs, it may cause the case of the computer or other device to build up an electric charge. The grounding pin absorbs any charges generated this way; without it, someone touching the device may get shocked.
