Is it still ok to use a cracked ipod screen,

i cracked my ipod and my parents think i should not use it is it still ok i i use it or no

Perhaps get a cheap screen protector from Amazon or eBay.  It would help holding the screen together and protect your fingers from sharp edges.  Still one day the device probably will fail and you will have to repair/replace it.

  • Could apple repair a cracked ipod screen?

How much would it cost for apple to repair a cracked screen? Is it covered under the warranty?

I have had friends that have cracked their screens, and from what I have heard, the repairs for a cracked screen are nearly as much as a new ipod itself.  I believe you may be better off by just buying a new one...And keep that thing lookin' great!

iResQ.com repairs ipod screens. I only use them for out of warranty apple products. They repair macbooks, ipods, iphones, etc.

  • I have a cracked ipod screen. i noticed that the repair price was 99 dollars. if they have to send a replacement will it still cost the 99 dollars?

wasnt sure if they would make you pay more or not

Apple does not repair your iPod. They will exchange it for a refurbished one for this price.

That is $99 for the 8 GB 4G iPod.

  • Can i get my cracked ipod screen replaced for free?

I don't have Apple care, but i read on apple's site that if you come in for a repair within a year of purchase that they'll give you the service charge for free. Is that correct? obviously i would pay for the screen still, but if i could save 150 bucks for service charge that would be nice. I've had it 5 months.

No, that is not correct, and I doubt very much you saw that anywhere on Apple's site. You must have misread. The warranty does not cover accidental damage.
As to repair, Apple does not repair iPods, but will replace the entire iPod for a flat fee; see the Repair Pricing section here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/faq/
There are independent iPod repair services that may be able to replace the screen for less. Do a web search for "ipod repair".

  • Will Apple repair my cracked ipod screen?

I have an ipod touch 4th gen and recently dropped it and now there is a huge crack on the front:(
Before this happened the front camera had stopped working anyway
I didn't get the apple care  when i bought it but will Apple repair my ipod (at a price or for free)?
    Help!!!

They won't exactly repair it but there is a scheme where you trade an iPod with a broken screen plus some money for a refurbished, working iPod of the same memory capacity
Not 100% sure how it will work with the broken camera though

  • When you are fixing a cracked iPod screen will it loose memory

  • Protecting cracked ipad screen from further damage with protector

Howdy.... I have an ipad 2. The screen recently developed a spider web-type crack. I honestly have no idea how it happened. I did not drop it. I've been on a number of plane trips recently and noticed it after checking into a hotel. It was in my cabin luggage. Possibly someone dumped something on it in the overhead bin, or it got tossed around??
Anyway, it does still seem to function completely fine. Towards the edge of the screen on one side there is about 1 mm of depression/displacement of the sides of the fracture. Otherwise the cracks are non-displaced. I have no problem using it.
I am in a country with no apple stores. I could submit to an authorized repair place and wait for it to be repaired. However, I am anticipating ipad 3 coming out soon and I am wondering about the option of simply not fixing the screen at all.
I bought an ipad screen protector and put it on the screen under the theory that this might inhibit cracks from propagating further. Anyone have any insight or ideas about this? What happens when you use a cracked ipad screen over time? Does it inevitably get worse?
I am wondering if I can just use it as-is with the screen protector until ipad 3 comes out. The cracks are actually hard to notice during actual use, with the screen on.

The glass is laminated structure, the top layer is oleophobic plastic very thin, then there is the sensor and finally the glass. Same for ipad and iphone. See below.
If it works, keep going. Since you plan to buy a new one anyway. A case of 'its broken, but no need to fix it' !

  • I no longer have an iphone.  Do I still need mobile me for the ipod touch?

I no longer have an iphone.  Do I need mobileme for my ipod touch?

You didn't need MobileMe for your iPhone either, per se. What was it about the service that caused you to sign up? Was it the "Find My iPhone" service? If so, that would still be perhaps useful for the iPod touch, though since the iPod has no GPS locations may be less accurate.
If that doesn't answer your question, please post back with further information about your needs and what you're asking about.
    Regards.

  • I have a ipod from a friend for a replacement. I cracked the screen after still using it I lost total power to turn it back on.

I have a ipod from a friend for a replacement. I cracked the screen after still using it I lost total power to turn it back on.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

TechCrunch posted a solution today that applies to this problem, I think.
    Go to: https://supportprofile.apple.com/MySupportProfile.do
Click your old iPhone and "unregister" it.
