Is it still possible to remove pauses between tracks when ripping a CD?

In earlier versions of iTunes, it was possible to remove pauses between tracks. Many classical CDs have long sections subdivided into separate tracks, yet those sections are meant to be heard without pauses. When a CD with those separate tracks gets ripped, there is a brief pause before the next track starts. Is it still possible to remove those pauses?

Oops. I found the answer to this question after digging for about an hour.
Yes, it still can rip without pauses.
Now my issue is how to join (without pauses) music that ends on one CD and continues (without pauses) onto a second CD.
Any know of any software that does that with MP3s?

  • Pauses between tracks? (Brutal 1 or 2 second interruption between tracks)

I would like to know if there is a way to program the iPod so that when I’m listening to an album that is supposed to be heard in continuous playback (no pauses between tracks, like in operas, some new age albums and classical music) I can hear it without the brutal one or two second interruption the internal software inserts between tracks.
Here’s what I have tried. I went to iTunes preferences, in PLAYBACK, and set the CROSSFADE PLAYBACK indicator to ZERO (0) seconds. Then, I updated the iPod. There remains a very noticeable skip between tracks that isn’t there on the original CDs. It is a little better, but still too noticeable.
What I mean is this. When I listen to my CD on my computer or sound system, there is absolutely no gap or skip between tracks…the music just flows on (example : Alexander by Vangelis, or a Wagner opera). The music is continuous. No skip between tracks.
Should I conclude there is no way to import this type of recording on the iPod (and iTunes) without adding a skip (even if only a short one) between tracks?
I have a 40 Gigabytes iPod, version 3.1 of the iPod software.

This question is one that crops up a lot on these forums and has been a major source of complaint for as long as the iPod has been in existence.
Currently the only way to eliminate the gap between songs is to import the cd as one track. You do this by using the “join cd tracks” option in the advanced menu of iTunes.
Make sure the tracks are in their correct order, and highlight those you wish to join.
No gaps, but the downside is that you will of course lose the ability to navigate between tracks, and the song info is also lost. The iPod will display the cd title in the song field in the “now playing” screen . You’ll also have one large file instead of a number of smaller ones.
If you would like to see gapless playback implemented to the iPod, add your voice to the many here.

  • Why is the ipod insisting on pausing between tracks?

My ipod 30g is pausing between tracks and there is no apparent way of altering that. This is a serious unresolved problem with the ipod which I feel needs to be discussed until Apple either recalls it or resolves the issue.
I did a search for this topic and I found that the few discussions that existed did not get the airing they deserved before they were archived.
If I didn't know Apple better I would think this is a cover-up. I called tech support and after I assured them that the itunes cd preference was set to no pause they had no answer but to re-install the software which would involve erasing all my content. And you know I got the "I haven't heard of this problem yet.." cliche tech response to de-emphasize a gaping disfunction.
Yes I'm keeping my ipod but they should not have released it for market with this audio anomaly. And yes I will merge all my tracks in itunes because that pause can ruin and entire CD if there is continuous sound.
Does anyone know if Apple is at least considering rectifying this flaw?

The iPod has never supported gapless playback.
    You can suggest Apple add this feature here;

It's no big conspiracy - we're not alowed to speculate here about what features Apple may or may not add in the future, so there really isn't much to talk about.

  • 5800 - How can i remove gap between tracks?

Hi guys, as the subjects says...Is there any way to remove the gap between tracks in order to get a continuous play with seperate songs in the XM 5800?
    Thanks.

I know what you mean - some albums sound much better without the half second (or more) gap between tracks when playing in continuous mode (not usually necessary for shuffle mode). E.g. MediaMonkey on the PC works pretty great with Ministry of Sound albums for example - I suspect we'd have to have a new audio player in a firmware release. Here's to dreaming!
If I've helped, please hit Kudos! I could do with a little kudos in my life.

  • PAUSE BETWEEN TRACKS

Does anyone know how to put a small pause inbetween tracks when I download them from itunes or burn a cd? Mine all run into each other.

For iTunes playback, go to iTunes Preferences -> Playback and either deselect "Crossfade Songs" or decrease or increase the amount of time it takes for the current song to fade out at the end and the new song to fade in, drag the “seconds” slider left or right.
For burning Audio CDs, in the "Burn Options" dialog which pops up when you select "Burn Disc", you can select a gap between songs from None to 1,2 ... up to 5 seconds.

  • Unexpected Pauses between tracks & a disappearing Nano

I've had my Product Red nano for nearly a month now & its great, but every so often at the end of a track, the Nano will pause for about 5 seconds before starting to play the next track. Anyone else experience this? I need to know soon, If its defective so I can exchange it out for a different one.
I've also noticed that with the iTunes7 the Nano will sync up, and right afterwards 50% of the time will dissapear from iTunes. My 2G iPod & U2 iPod never have done that in iTunes 7. I called Apple support and they told me that it normal for the iPod to unmount after updating & remove itself from the Left Pane. I don't see how that's normal since it doesn't always disappear. The nano always disappears as soon as I connect any other iPod to the computer. But if one of the other iPods are connected & I plug in the Nano, I see them both until the Nano is updated then it disappears.
It really frustrating cause I will play several tracks & have to manually remove & reconnect the Nano to sync. Anyone have any ideas?

  • Continuous play between songs without a pause between tracks

I have a lot of "mixed" cds which I have uploaded into my ipod. The cd's feature many songs mixed together into one continuous flow. Each track is marked (1-?) so you may select a specific song instead of their only being one long track. The problem is that when uploaded into my itunes (and ipod), when the cd is played, there is a pause between the tracks (like on normal cds) which obviously breaks the flow of the music. Is there any way around this?

One other option that I've begun using to separate tracks in a cd with songs that flow from one to the next (Dream Theater anyone?) yet retain the artists vision is to use Apple's Chapter Tool and use this in conjunction with a tool like Scriptbuilder's . "Podcastenhancer". (There are other utilities but this is the one I personally use.)
What this does is allow you to rip the cd with all tracks joined and then add "Chapters" to the file to indicate where each track should start. Created for use in building podcasts (like the iTunes New Music Tuesday podcast) where you want the content broken up, the combination of these tools will help you separate your songs and add album artwork at the same time. What you end up with is one long continuous song file with the ability to jump from track to track on your iPod and select the appropriate "song" in iTunes from the chapter list that appears when the file is played.

  • Burned DVD pauses between pictures when played on TV/DVD player

When I burn a dvd using picture transitions and play it on a TV/DVD player, it pauses for about 3 seconds between every picture and says "searching for signal".  How can I burn a dvd to play on TV using the transitions without having the pause between each picture?

    Hi
    A. Did You use SlideShow function in iDVD - It is limited to 99 photos per Show - you can have more than one on a DVD
    B. What brand of DVD did You use ? Cheap ones as Memorex, NoNames etc usually DO NOT Work - I only use Verbatim
    C. What type of DVD did You use ? I only use DVD-R as they play on more devices (even older DVD-Players)
Never DVD+/-RW as they are known problem maker whatever brand used.
    D. Did You set down burn speed ? I do to x4 = Less burn errors = Plays better
    E. Free space on Start-Up hard disk, How much ? I never go under 25Gb for iDVD and Mac OS temp files and as they can not be stored elsewhere.

  • How can I remove gaps between tracks?

I now know how to join tracks
My next hurdle is how do I remove the gaps between tracks?
Apple sent me this link but I don't know how to find the section it refers too.....
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iTunesMac/7.0/en/2585.html

so when you have the songs in the itunes library you are going to select the songs.....hold control and select each song ( this will highlight them all blue ) then right click on the songs and select get info and you will see the part of a gapless playback album on the bottom right of the window

  • Long Audio Pause Between Tracks. Can that be chang

I get a three second pause of silence between all my audio tracks. For the life of me, I can't seem to find a way to get rid of the pauses. Any idea? Thanks! BillMessage Edited by bsherck on 03-05-200704:2 PM

What is your player? My Zen Micro will take ~3 seconds to change if I manually do it, but if I wait until it changes itself, it seems to pre-load the next song and changes instantly at the end of a song.
Maybe you need to Clean-up or reformat, also?

  • External Hard drive pausing between tracks

Hi, I just transferred all of my music from my macbook pro to my external hard drive recently to conserve space, but now when ever songs play consecutively in itunes there is a big pause (sometimes up to 5 seconds) right before the next track starts--usually when the currently playing track has 3 seconds left. I have a Western Digital 400 GB Passport. Is there anyway to remove, or at least reduce, this pause? It's really annoying... thanks!

Hi. I just got my new iMac and when I first plug it in, I get a message saying that the drive is unreadable. When I open Disk Utility, the drive is in there, but when I click Verify Disk it says the disk needs to be repaired. When I click Disk Repair, it says that it can't be repaired and to back up as many files as I can and to reformat.
This is a major problem. How can I back up my files if I can't even view them ?
Again, I am desperate here. I can't sleep!
    UPDATE:
Okay, I'm not a techincal genius here, so forgive me if my ideas are useless. Don't be afraid to be honest with me. I was reading up on the Disk Image function, in which Disk Utility will copy the entire contents of the drive into a single dmg file. In theory, could I do this, reformat the drive (on my iMac) and then somehow restore my files onto the drive using the dmg file ?
Also, could RAID be of any use for me ?

  • Removing gap between tracks

How do i remove the gap between dance tracks on a mixed CD when i play them on my 20G colour ipod?

Hi Neil - You can only do this when you first import your CD into iTunes. To do this select 'Advanced' then 'Join CD Tracks'. The whole CD then gets imported as a single track. The only drawback is that you can't select individual tracks for playback. For CDs where I sometimes want to play continuous and at other times I want to select specific tracks I import 2 versions, one joined and one as per normal.
    Cheers - Neil.

  • Updating iPhone went wrong. Is it possible to remove data before restoring when in recovery mode?

My mum was updating her iPhone and she either unpluged the phone to soon or there was a problem with the update. Now the phone will not turn off and the screan is telling me to plug the phone back to iTunes. When I do so there is a pop up telling me i have to restore the phone and will lose all the data on the phone. If any one can help me save this data before I restore the phone i would be very greatful.

When the phone demands a recovery, you'll have to do that. Try to connect in recovery mode, with a little luck the phone will be able to backup before restoring, in case the firmware is not completely damaged.
Recovery mode is explained here: iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to restore

  • Is it possible to retain multiple audio tracks when exporting?

While ripping my DVD collection, I've wanted to add a purchased RiffTrax (see www.riftrax.com) to the movie as another audio track. I've been successful, but it took the following steps:
    1. Encode the movie using Handbrake, open the resulting m4v file in Quicktime Pro
    2. Also in Quicktime Pro, open the Rifftrax aac file I created and add it as another audio track in the m4v
    3. Save the m4v as a Quicktime mov file
    4. Use Handbrake again to encode the mov file into an m4v file, including my added audio track
The reason I have to do step 4 is because if I were to export an m4v file directly from Quicktime Pro, it would compress all of the audio tracks into a single audio track. It would save a lot of time if Quicktime could export multiple audio tracks, at least when exporting to formats that can handle them. Does anyone know if this is possible?
BTW, if anyone wants more details into how I create the RiffTrax aac, just ask.
    - Jake

I've answered my own question, it was a lot easier than I thought. After the first encoding by Handbrake, there's really no difference between calling it a mov file or m4v file. I can change the file extension at will and there's no need to do an export that mashes the audio tracks. It's only AppleTV that needs to see the m4v file extension, Quicktime and iTunes doesn't seem to care one way or the other.
Thanks for letting me think out loud.

  • Is it possible to A/B video tracks when coming straight from Premiere?

I've got a two-camera project in Premiere where the cameras didn't have the same white balance, so I want to match one to the other: one of them's good, the other was too cold. If I do a "Direct link to Adobe Speedgrade" from Premiere, I can't see any way of choosing which track I'm working with - in Premiere I'd just toggle the top track's visibility icon on or off to compare the two, but this is greyed out in SG. Do I need to create a single-track edit in Premiere first, using clips from both cameras on one timeline, and then work in SG with that?
