Is it still snowing in minnesota

has cougar escaped its bondage
does birch tree have spring leaves
is pig snorting happily away
we may never know
tttastcb

cougar is happy and haven't had to use magic battery booster thing in about a month ... when it's above zero degrees the cougar starts okay without it.
PIG is happy and says, " OINK ! "  ( wagging curly tail )
Pig has been going through some tests re: using PPro and SG and various drives for round trips ( using dpx " send to SG" ).  So far so good... basically the vivaldi winter thing has been a workflow test of sorts...
So far it is this that works best....
1) put everything on timeline as it is put into pig from ninja SSD ( using renamer program to batch name files as per date of ingestion etc. ...file naming conventions to keep track of whats what ).
2) scrub through stuff on timeline quickly to get general idea what I got
3) go through each file using source monitor by double clicking project manager files ( clips )
4) throw out total junk ( delete from project manager, timeline, and hard drive )
5) butt everthing in timeline together after getting rid of junk.
6) send to SG ( make dpx files )
7) do initial cc with SG and export same as original source stuff ( in my case avid codec in mov wrapper ) to appropriate drive.
8) move stuff from export drive to source drive ( keep the stuff organized re: where source stuff is and where export stuff goes )
9)  put new SG stuff on timeline above original stuff
10) scrub using timeline now.. no more source monitor
11) begin edit .....
now it gets nuts... cause at some point I am still unhappy with original cc and have to send back to SG again... oh well, thats life.
keep editing..and move good stuff up a level that will go to roughcut sequence.. cutting out bad parts.. I don't use anything that can later be expanded ...
at this point ( roughcut ) I may start adding some dissolves etc... but probably will have to delete them for yet ANOTHER trip to SG for basic cc....
maybe nest stuff for overall PPro levels and other adustments...
post grading not done yet ... wont be done till entire project is done ( winter spring summer fall )... for this test project.
learning what I can meanwhile with some more tutorials and stuff ( like how to use yc waveform better, stuff like that.. and also testing iso to imgBurn from encore to make DVD and BD to test color spaces and products ( played on computer and TV to compare results ).
Lots of stuff going on but being an idiot it is progressing slowly and ultimately ( without calibrated monitors and test signals and so on.. half of what I'm doing is just to get used to using the programs and won't really lead to final products except for low ball sharing ).

OB.. hiya !   Am still using the cool mixing stick thing to mush up food for eating with loose teeth... works great !  I think the teeth might be re attaching themselves to my jaw.. hard to tell cause I don't wanna put pressure on them to test them ... but I am not having bad dreams about them anymore and am living on canned ravioli, refried beans, chili that is mushed with magic mixing thing, and pea soup.. etc... today I ate some chicken too !  And yesterday I made a roast beef and sliced it really THIN.. and ate half of that roast !  YUM !
HAIL CITIZEN !  I have not been able to read any more decline and fall of roman empire for the past 2 weeks... due to depressing heads flying out palace window... I think I'll get back into it once my own personal life is not so stressful ...you know, where I can sorta laugh at heads flying out windows again.

Check first if your Mac might be compatable.

  • I just downloaded and installed mountain lion on my macbook pro but it didn't change the picture on desktop to mountain lion in is still snow leopard is that supposed to be that way.

I just downloaded and installed mountain lion but it kept snow leopard on my screen is that supposed to happen or did i miss something?

Then you're good to go.  Updating your OS doesnt change your desktop background, you can do that manually, if you wish.

  • Snow Leopard crashes because of gdb

    Hello all,
I am debugging a binary (assembly only) using GDB 6.3.50-20050815 (Apple version gdb-1510) installed via latest XCode version and I am interested in watching $EAX for a specific value.
The problem is whenever I set a watchpoint for a register ("watch $eax", or "watch $eax == 0x12345678" i.e.) and issue "continue", the system crashes right away and I get rebooted. If I single-step it, there is no problem, until I continue the execution.
I've tried setting it to use software watchpoint (expecting a less severe error), but still Snow Leopard crashes.
On GDB 7.1 I was facing a similar problem (http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4670185/snow-leopard-crashes-after-gdb-attemp ts-to-access-an-address-using-watchpoints) but I let it go since this was a too fresh gdb version. But I don't think this is the case for watching a register on 6.3.
Any ideia? I wonder is there is any log that I could look at.
    Thanks

    Hi,
There was no relevant log info. See console output for "All Messages":

Just before reproducing the crash I generated a debug dummy message ("sdsdsd") as a checkpoint, using "logger", and there was any log message further this one (besides the bootup ones, of course). Bootup messages don't say anything. I checked it using Console and Profiler.
I was also looking forward to see any log or gdb dump.
UPDATE: crash happens for watching a specific value and not for a general watch ("watch $eax" is fine; "watch $eax == 0x12345678" reboots).

  • Stuck in the snow :-(

So I've been traveling for the last 10 days... spent New Year's with friends in Atlanta, then flew to Miami for my sister's wedding which was on Friday. Started the drive back up to my home in Tennessee yesterday morning, and decided to spend the night with my friends in Atlanta...
Bad decision. We've got 6+ inches of snow here (Atlanta airport is COMPLETELY shut down through noon tomorrow), 12+ inches at my home in Tennessee, and no word of anything in the way of snow plows or road clearing. In fact, Tennessee Emergency Management has apparently released a statement saying that if you slide off the road, or get in a wreck, and aren't injured, you're on your own! Atlanta has ice on the way, with falling temps, so it may be several days before we can get out. I'd go for it, but I've got my wife with me, who's 8 months pregnant and I don't want to risk getting stuck in the snow with her.
The most disappointing thing about all this to me is that my brand new GY-HM700U, which I've not gotten to play with yet, is sitting in my office back in Tennessee and not with me. :-(
We'll see what happens, but at this point I may be here in Atlanta at least into Wednesday! The sad thing is that this same amount of snow up north wouldn't even faze anyone--it's folks in the south who don't know what to do with it that are going nuts!

Dave, hows it going ???  Are things back to normal ??
Normal? Nope... I've never seen anything like this before... I am back in Dayton, where I live, but things aren't exactly "normal" here...
The city school almost NEVER takes a snow day, and yet they've now racked up four in a row... the county schools closed on Monday and won't reopen until Tuesday of next week!
The college where I work is open again, but not all the students have made it back to campus and even a number of the faculty are still snowed in at their homes and can't get here to work.
Good news for me, is that I live on Market St in Dayton, which is a state road, and so is kept plowed and I'm able to get out. My wife probably wishes I couldn't get out, so that I could stay home from work, but I'm here at work now, finally...
And the good part about being at work is that I get to play with my new camera!!!
Oh, the joys of a good camera! I pulled it out of the bag this morning, popped on the new, fully charged batteries, set my back focus, and started having fun. Here's a rundown of what I've learned so far:
The form-factor is wonderful--I LOVE the fact that this camera is shoulder mount... SO much easier to hold. That said, I noticed when I pulled some footage into my editing rig that it's going to take some adjustment to get my image level all the time! Nice thing is, it's easy to twirl open my rotate adjustment in the motion control panel, and correct by a couple degrees and then zoom my image in to 105-107% to compensate for the rotation. I just need to get better at keeping the camera level when I'm using the viewfinder.
The camera is a dream when mounted on a good set of sticks. The balance is amazing, and its really easy to do smooth pans and tilts with it. I suppose that's primarily due to the sticks and the head I'm using, but the camera does work well on it... the LCD screen is INCREDIBLY clear and sharp, and though I didn't really need it, the focus assist was really nice, too
One thing that disappointed me a bit is what I think is referred to as the "breathing" of the lens (correct me if I'm using the wrong term) when I adjust focus with the lens zoomed tight. You'll see it in one clip in my test video which I'll link below, but as I pulled my focus to bring one blurred building into focus, you could see it actually adjusted the zoom as well, which I didn't really like. I don't know if that's a function of these pro lenses, or if I'm doing something wrong, but if anyone has insight into it, I'd appreciate some pointers...
Speaking of focus, this thing has a great DoF... the aperture is not variable, so you can do a lot more with your depth of field by pulling physically away from your subject and then zooming in tight and setting focus.
The Auto White Balance button I found to work ok, but not great... I pulled it out, focused it at a pile of snow that was in the shade (so it wouldn't be blown out) and hit the AWB button, and then just started shooting. In post I found that I had to use the three-way color corrector to pull both the highlights and the midtones a little bit blue--everything looked just a little yellow, and we all know to avoid the yellow snow!
One thing I did find the hard way with this, is that with the focus assist turned on, you really need to have zebras enabled as well... focus assist makes the image black and white but puts a blue edge around that which is in focus... the problem with black and white is that its a lot harder to tell what your exposure is like. Being out in the snow with a sun that kept going in and out of the clouds, I ended up with a bunch of shots that were so overexposed they were unusable. I think next time I'll not rely on the focus assist as much (even the viewfinder is really sharp!) and I'll turn my zebras on around 90%.
Editing is a breeze with this stuff in CS5... I pulled the card from the camera, dropped it in my card reader, copied the BPAV folder to my media disk, opened the media browser in PPro, browsed to the folder, and it instantly switched to the XDCAM-EX format and showed me all my clips. It was simple to import them to the clip viewer, select what I wanted, and then drag it to my bin.
On my i7-920 system with 12GB of Ram, a 4TB RAID-0 Media disk and a single Projects disk with a separate disk for OS/Programs, I could edit this stuff with my playback window at full resolution with no stutters at all... that's WAY better than I could do with the AVCHD from my cheapo C-Camera, and certainly better than I can do with the RED footage I was playing with last month. Even with levels and the 3-Way CC applied to most clips, the 1:20 segment linked below exported in a little less than 3 minutes, which I feel is fantastic for this footage, which is 1920x1080 at 60i.
So there's my writeup on what I've observed so far...
Here's the footage I shot today.

  • Disk Utility cant repair my external hard drive?!

I'm using a 1 TB WD external hard drive on my Macbook Pro (OS is still Snow Leopard).
It was working just fine until a few days ago the hard drive does not show on finder. I tried to repair it with disk utility but it gave the following message
"Disk Utility can’t repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files."
Of course I cant back up my files, it doesn't even show on finder! It doesn't show on other macs and PCs either!
I did my research on the internet and tried the following commands on Terminal
    mount /dev/disk1
and it says "unknown special file or file system."
    mount force /dev/disk1
and it says "/System/Library/Extensions/ufs.kext failed to load - (libkern/kext) not privileged; check the system/kernel logs for errors or try kextutil(8).
    UFS filesystem is not available."
    What does that mean??
I can reformat my hard drive but it has 500 GB worth of files and I'd rather not loose them if possible.. Is it possible?
I'm also trying to save my files using this software Disk Drill, but it takes forever and the showing files doesn't have the proper name.
Is there anything else I could try? I'll really appreciate any kind of help. Thanks!

Use a product such as DiskWarrior to repair the drive; you’re supposed to make backups to guard against future trouble and not while having it.

  • Using Shared Review via Network Folder on Windows server and PC and Mac users commenting

We are having initiation and connection problems on the Macs (running OS 10.6.4 Snow Leopard)  with Shared Reviews (from Acrobat 9) that are stored on a Windows 2008 Server connecting via SMB. I would be very interested to hear from anyone who is successfully:
    1) Initiating Shared Reviews from a Macintosh via "Automatically collect comments on my own internal server" and navigating to a folder (with full read/write permissions for all) on a Windows server. We cannot get Acrobat (via the automated SR set-up wizard) to verify the network folder location on the Macs so that a Mac user can initiate a Shared Review. On Windows (using Parallels or logging in to a PC directly), the same users have no problem initiating and accessing Shared Reviews.
    2) Accessing Shared Reviews on a network folder (set up on a Windows 2008 server) via a Mac running OSX 10.6.4 and Acrobat 9. All users have read/write access to the folder and can navigate to it via the server. They can save documents to the network folder and open other documents there as well. When they open a Shared Review-enabled PDF for commenting, they get the error message that Acrobat cannot connect to the server. Retry results in the same error message.
We use Shared Reviews extensively and have no problems with PC users accessing the files and Mac users accessing them via Windows (Parallels or on a PC). This is very frustrating so I would really appreciate any ideas, especially if anyone is actually doing Shared Reviews this way.
    Thanks.

Unfortunately, this is NOT fixed based on the testing I have done.
    1) I am still unable to connect to the network folder on a Windows server from the Mac to initiate a Shared Review In Acrobat version 9.4.6. Same error message as previous Unable to locate server. See screenshot:
    2) One of the Mac users (also upgraded to Acrobat 9.4.6) who was invited to participate in a Shared Review (initiated using Parallels/Windows) was initially able to open the file and Publish comments. However, after she did and closed the file, she was unable to reopen the same file, connect to the server and add comments. And no other Mac user could access the file after she added her first comments. We all got the error message "Unable to connect etc" See screenshot.
    3) I opened the same file in Parallels/Windows with no problem. However, the Mac user's comments were not there. I could add comments and publish in Windows.
    4) When I tried to access the Tracker from my Mac (review was initiated via Parallels), I got the error message File not Found when I tried to access the test review via my Mac (see screenshot).
Could you give me more information about the fix? I would also be happy to talk to you or send more details if that would help.
Our set up has not changed from the original information I sent (there may have been some Mac updates -- we are all on OS 10.6.8 but still Snow Leopard). Server has not changed.

  • MacBookPro ****. iPhoto (Time Machine) Problems

I took my MacBook Pro in to the Genius Bar and it was sent to the Depot for a new logic board.  I was told to use Time Machine to 'restore/reload' everything.  OK.  I did.
Then iTunes and iPhoto would not work.  Based on the error I got, I think what they loaded when they reloaded the OS was newer than what I had before their work (but still Snow Leopard - 10.6.8.)  So I checked for updates and about 8 or 9 things needed updating.  So I did.
Well, now I have two problems
iPhoto has lost *many* thumbnails.  (Everything else is '09 but iPhoto is now '11 for some reason.)  I'm trying to open GarageBand for the first time now.  (it's '11 now too.)  If I seem confused, it's because the paperwork for repair said that I  had '09.  I questioned this and was told that I was wrong, I didn't have iLife '11.  Perhaps I was right all along.
Anyway, I tried the Alt+cmd when opening and selecting the restore thumbnail options.  That DID NOT work.
I'm hesitant to try Time Machine again.
My Time Machine says that this backup was done on a different machine and do I want to use it.  (Of course, everything, iTunes, Facebook, etc thinks I am on a new computer.)  So I just declined to go any farther before I cause a bigger mess.
Please help me.  I have projects that I need the photos for and I need to back up while I am working on that and other things.
Does any one know what to do.  To get into this mess, it took 3 trips to the Genius Bar 15 miles and crazy traffic away and 2 calls to Apple Support.  Seems there isn't one Genius who is especially rounded and knows more than one area.  I need a fully functioning MacBook Pro in *all* areas.
Thank you to anyone that can help.

Please don't think people are ignnoring you.  If they are like me, they read your problem and were unable to come up with a solution to help you.  It may take a few hours or even a few days before someone comes along that can assist you.  I feel your pain, feeling completly helpless and anxiously awaiting a fix.  We do have very knowledgable Time Machine users in here.  What I can do is direct you to this website, created by a user in here who is one of those very knowledgeable about Time Machine. : http://pondini.org/OSX/Home.html.  I hope he or someone else comes along soon to help you. Good luck.

  • Macbook Pro Hard Drive Space Information

How do you check for the remaining hard drive space on the MacBook Pro, with the new OS X Lion installed?  I used to be able to see the information on my remaining hard drive space, using Finder, but that was when my OS was still Snow Leopard.  Please help.  Thank you very much.

You can also use About This Mac.
In the top left, select the apple icon, go to about this mac, and chose more info when the screen pops up
on the top menu bar, chose "Storage" It will show you what's on your harddrive, and how much space you have left.

  • I just updated my new iPhone 6 to iOS 8.3 and now it won't recognize any city in the weather app. How can I fix it? Any ideas??

My weather app only has local weather on it and it's wrong. It was working perfecfly fine before I updated. I have already restored it due to another problem I have been having.

Well, I went to an apple store and they told me that I have to restore the iphone with VF -something- mode, this is made thru itunes. Now, I have an iphone 5s and I am running still Snow Leopard (OSx 10.6.8) on my mac and it work brilliantly, although they do recommend to do so on a fully updated computer.
But that does not excuse Apple, because let's face it, in recent days they have dropped the ball, on equipment, ideas and software, proof of that is that my mac book pro from the mid 2010 still has an optical audio inlet, the software runs more efficiently than the Yosemite and… well who's going to buy a watch worth 1000 quid with a battery that only last for a DAY, serious?
Back to the original matter in question, here's an article that can help you with your problem.

  • Many problems with SL

In the recent days I had many problems after upgrading to Snow.
Some involve 3rd parties software.. some Mac OS
Adobe Softwares seem to have some problems. In particoluar I work with Premiere and it continuosly hangs (turning wheel). Generally it seems much slower and, ie, my external HDMI card is become unusable.
In Mac OSX I find some problems. When I open a folder sometimes Finder hangs.. You see an empty folder for 30 seconds or so. On the bottom right there is a wheel turning and finally, only after some time, contents of folder appear. If I have to open a subfolder.. again... it hangs.. on and on.
Sometimes the OS seems stuck.. CPU is at 1 or 2% but it all seems stuc.
I upgraded to SL from Leopard hoping to get a faster and more stable OS but now sometimes it seems impossible to do anything!

Thanks but the link you gave me is about CS3. I have CS4 (latest) that it is supposed to be fully compatibile with Snow .. But on Adobe forums many people have the same problems.
My external output video card is Blackmagic Design Intensity Pro. I downloaded from their site SL drivers and the card is ok on other softwares. The problem is Adobe..
... but still Snow is giving me problems alswhere.. like.. as I said.. the finder.

  • How to restrict area of particles

Hi. When I go into inspector of the emitter, I can specify whether the particles come out of a line, a point, a spiral, etc. I want to draw a bezier shape (say, a trapezoid) and make my particles (say, snow) only fall within that shape. How can I do that without making it fall all over my canvas and masking out the sides? [Please note, I am not asking how my shape can become a particle.]
    Thanks.

Hi Mark Spencer. I set my emitter shape to Geometry and dragged my bezier shape into the little square that says: "source shape," but it still snows all over the canvas. If I set the speed to zero then it won't snow at all. Is there some setting I'm missing? Thanks.

  • Burning CD /Need To Reinstall Itunes

OK, all you ITunes experts, this Great Grandma needs your help. My Burn driver died and Dell came and replaced it and now I get this message that says: "Registry settings used by ITunes drivers for importing and burning CDs and DVDs are missing. This can happen as a result of installing other CD burning software. Please reinstall ITunes." I didn't download any new software only my burner was replaced.
If I reinstall ITunes, will I lose my music and playlists? Do I need to UN install current ITunes before I Install new ITunes? I am so confused. Please help as I can find nowhere on ITunes to get support with this issue.
Thank you for your assistance with my questions.
Under 16 inches of snow and still snowing here in PA. All stay safe that are having hazardous weather conditions.

With that one, I'd try starting with the following document:

  • ICloud...am i missing the point?

    Hi,
I'm really confused...i have an iphone 4, ipad 2, macbook pro and imac, all i want to be able to do is access my documets from any of these....i have numbers, pages and keynote installed on all, and have the latest ios on the mobile devices and lion on the macbook and imac....i've also move my mobileme account over to icloud
so my question is, if i work in numbers or pages on my macbook or imac, how do those files get saved to icloud? I used to be able to save them to my idisk and access them on all devices, but with icloud there is no option to save to icloud - or am i missing something?
also - i can't believe that there is no replacement for idisk for my non iwork apps to allow me to save data...

I'm confused too, so don't assume I am being a smartaleck, here.  First, on my iPad "Settings>iCloud>Docs & Data" cryptically sez it allows apps to store docs and data in iCloud.
When I finally figured out I must log into iCloud on my iMac (still Snow Leopard, btw) in order to actually SEE what is on iCloud, there are 5 icons - Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Find My iPhone, and iWork.
Putting these together (I don't have iWork, so guessing), I assume that the setting on my iPad is supposed to save iWork data/docs where they should then not only be accessible while in iCloud, but should also accessible on other iThings.
I have only experimented with Calendar and Contacts, where I see that only the blank default "Home" and "Work" calendars show up in iCloud, as well as my iPad, iMac and wife's iPad.  All my contacts (synced to the iPad from the iMac) are available, but I didn't turn on Contact syncing for my wife's iPad.
I noticed that there were two categories of Calendars on my iPad.  Those from my iMac, and those from iCloud.  Since my wife had never use iCal on her iPad, she had only iCloud calendars, and it makes sense (once I noticed it) that entries in the "iMac" calendars did not appear in iCloud or on my wife's iPad.  However, I wonder what will happen when I finally load Lion onto the iMac (Once a FCPX project is completed -- I don't trust the complaints about Lion/FCPX not working well with each other).
Will my "On My iMac" calendars be merged with iCloud?  If so, is there any way to keep all my personal event reminders (pay this insurance, pay that insurance, pay this Visa, pay that M/C") from flooding my wife's Calendar thru iCloud?
I read in another thread that the iCloud account does NOT need to be the same as the iTunes/AppleID account.  But since they use the same email, I don't see how unless we each create an @me.com account with an email for which we have no other use.
Naturally, if we need separate iCloud accounts in order to prevent the cross-pollination of Calendar and Contacts, creating separate iTunes accounts seems a better solution, although then one of us would lose access to apps and music already purchased.
Sorry if I appear to be hijacking this thread (only works if someone actually replies), but the key word here is the confusion.
    thanks.
