Is it time for a new one or can it be fixed.

I have had my iPod classic for close to 4 years now and it has started to freeze during a song, won't come off hold, and won't light up though I can still see the song info. in the background. I have let it sit for awhile and have even tried to put it on the charger to see if it would do anything but there was no change. Its had problems before of freezing but not like this and at those times I was able to let it run dead and charge it back up again and it was fine. I don't know if it is fixable or if it time for a new one. I'm going to have to pay to get it fixed I know because the warrenty has been up for awhile and if it ends up being expensive I'll probably just end up buying a new one. I just want to know if anyone has an idea of what I should do or if anyone else has had the similar problem. Thanks you so much.

You actually don't have a Classic. The Classic has only been available since Sept 07. If you have any other questions to post, you might want to make sure that you post in the correct forum as you will generally get better answers. Use this article to determine which iPod you really have:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1353
And the button combo is menu+center button. All iPods freeze up occasionally, just like all computers do. In and of itself, it may be indicative of nothing.
Best of luck.

  • Water Damage, pay $400 for a new one, or can I send it to be fixed.

    Hey all,
It's dried out, it happened about a week ago. The home button doesn't work, other than that it seems ok.
Is there any options for repairing it or should I just pay the 400 for a new one?
I'm not looking for directions on how to repair it, just if someone knows of a reliable place to ship it?
    Thanks

Here is a internet post that some believe is an excellent way to dry out a phone. I haven't tested nor vouch for it so it's up to you; but be sure you take the battery and SIM card out of the phone first.
    Alternate Alcohol Soak Method
Dry your phone by soaking it in alcohol or flush out contaminants with distilled water. This method is controversial and considered risky by some, but the proponents believe in it strongly. Using alcohol is more effective than distilled water because not only does it displace the water and sediments, it also evaporates faster with less residue. It will not harm your mobile phone.
Preferably, use denatured alcohol or a 95% alcohol solution. Denatured alcohol may be purchased at any hardware store and is used to clean electronics because it evaporates quickly and leaves no residue. You should check to see what the alcohol is denatured with. If it is anything other than methanol (some are denatured with very hazardous chemicals such as methyl ethylene ketone [MEK]) you should not use it, as some denaturants can melt plastics.
Most drugstores or larger retailers carry 91% rubbing alcohol. Regular rubbing alcohol is only 70% and is not recommended. Distilled water won't displace water (it is water) but it will dilute minerals and salts that conduct electricity, which cause "short circuits". Prolonged exposure to other liquids will cause corrosion of the copper traces within the mobile phone, and will most likely cease its operation.

Ohmigosh, and it's not her birthday? She's going to be surprised! Good man.
First test the new machine with nothing on it until you are satisfied it's working well. Then you can begin to populate the new machine. Look for some of Kenichi's posts on migrating from a PowerPC processor like the G5 to an Intel-based iMac. In a nutshell, consider migrating only the data and re-installing applications from the original disks where you can. I personally came from a G5 and migrated nothing with the Migration Assistant tool; nearly all data was on an external hard drive so that part was fairly easy, but it does take time to re-install applications one at a time. ITunes was a bit of headache since my media was not all in the default location and I need to sync an iPhone. Post if you need help with that.
Some software may not be Intel-compatible, so either install Rosetta or wait for the system to prompt you to install Rosetta; this allows most PowerPC programs to run under Intel.

  • Printer works fine from PC but the buttons don't work. Is it time for a new one?

C5180 All-in-One printer scanner copier. Are the buttons on the front supposed to light up? None of them respond except the power button. Any quick fix?

  • I've had my 4X g5 internal drive for years, time for a NEW ONE?

I make movies and would like to make a lot of DVD stuff or but with the drive i have it takes sooo long just for a 2 hour video to burn.
Surprisingly i have recently found that 18x and 20x speed external dvd drvies exist!!! wow. I think that would improve whole experience.
Are these 18x, or 20x drives way faster..and alsowhich do you recommend?

    Hi-
    Yep, way faster.
The Pioneer models are very good, with good OS X compatibility. The current Pioneer DVR-115 is an excellent drive. Soon to be released (already out in Asia) Pioneer DVR-116 burns DL at 12x, rather than 10x in the 115.
Of course, a main benefit, besides the obvious speed, is the better compatibility with the latest, faster rated media.

  • Time for a new battery or something worse?

I have a 17 inch MBP which I think is great.
However in the last few weeks the mechine will not work from the battery despite it showing as being fully charged. As soon as the powersupply is removed....nothing. Pressing the power button to restart sounds like the mechine is trying to restart but then imediatly has the power cut.
I hope this makes some sence to some one?
    The battery details are below.

I just had it looked at by an IT professional, he said that it's the motherboard, so it's not an easy fix.
Anyways, here is my whole computer >>> http://pcpartpicker.com/p/J3YPf7
Definition of "IT professional" varies widely and could mean almost anything...  He may be right; he may be wrong.  You're a bit elusive on the "stuff happened to it" topic so I'm thinking he may well be right in this case...  Nichrome has the correct place to start: where you bought it from.  Plead ignorance...and it may be they'll take pity on you.  Then again, their pity might extend only as far as you paying the going rate for a new board.  Won't hurt to ask, though: often we do not receive simply because we don't ask...

  • If i go to the apple store and replace my black iphone 4 while paying 200$ for a new one can i get the white?

My Screen is busted to Crap and back, im gonig to the apple store at Lenox Square. While I pay for a new one $200 Can they give me a white one instead of the regular black one i have? i mean im paying for it.. ? Help Please i go Friday

You are paying for a refurbished unit which is supposed to be same as the one you have. It won't hurt to ask about the change in color, but that would be entirely at the description of the Apple rep, so ask nicely.
    Good luck!

  • My question last time didn't get answered. Can I send in my iPod touch for a new one if I have a two year warranty?

My iPod touch 5th gen isn't charging, when I plug in my charger I've always used. It's an apple product and a message pops up saying "This accessory may not be supported" The charger isn't the problem because my mom used her iPhone with my charger and her phone charges fine with it. For Christmas, I got a portable charger and I used it the day after Christmas for a little bit and it worked, but then 20 minutes later my brother wanted to use it. So I let him use it. Then I went to go use my normal charger instead and when I plugged it in that message popped up. It's been like this sense the day after Christmas and the only way it charges is right before I swipe right to turn my iPod all the way off I plug my charger in real fast before the message can pop up. I've tried resetting my iPod, cleaning out the area it charges, and few other things. I've also tried getting help from people that work with technology at some stores. They all told me I had to contact Apple Support Communities. I'm trying to contact you guys, but last time I did it didn't solve my problem. I really want to get an answer to be able to fix it or have it replaced. I'm 13 and saved all my money on my own to get the iPod have. It took me a long time to save and I really don't it to be broken and not be able to get it replaced. Someone please help my resolve this.

You late question did get answered:on the 18th of this month. Sounds like you did not like the answers. Starting a new post without mentioning yur first post wastes people time
My iPod touch 5th gen isn't charging and when I plug my working charger in that I've always used a message pops up that says "This accessory may not be supported". So can I send it in for a new one if I have a warranty?

  • Time Machine deleted my first backup to make space for a new one, is there anyway to recover it?!?!

So I had all my stuff backed up to December 23 on an external hard drive with Time Machine, then I deleted it all so that the next automatic backup didn't have any of these older files. Today Time Machine deleted my original backup to make space for a new one and so I lost Decemer 23, now I am screwed..HELP?? I accidently let it delete or something, I don't really know, I know this was just a series of mistakes and now I'm desparate ):

Have a look at this article http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1427 and section "backup drive fills up".
It's a normal behavior that Time Machine is deleting oldest backups when drive is filling up.
