Is it wise to keep the socket connection open?

When u have a bunch of HTTP requests coming in to a listener server socket, would it be safe to keep my JAVA socket connection open with KeepAlive or simply open/close at will? I thought of a connection of sockets as well. Thoughts? thx!

It depends which socket your talking about
The serversocket you want to always be open and listened to
the sockets it spawns you should close when you've finished the transaction

Is it wise to keep the Nikon camera files "DSC's"  after downloading them and converting to DNG files via Adobe converter for lightroom use. In other words do the DNG files have all the raw data I would ever need in processing or should I save the camera's DSC files?

DNG files do not contain some metadata supplied by the camera, which can be used by the manufacturer's software. Thus, if you don't keep the original Raw photo, you will lose this information.
If your 1000% sure you're never going to use the manufacturer's software, then this isn't a problem. But who can be sure what software you will be using 10 years from now?

  • I just updated my iphone 4 to ios6 and now I can't keep the wifi connection to stay on. I have to keep entering my wifi password when the phone goes to sleep. How do I keep the wifi connection when I wake up the phone?

I just updated my iphone 4 to ios6 and I can't keep the wifi connection when the phone goes to sleep. I need to keep entering my wifi password when I wake up the phone. How do I keep the wifi on each time I walk into my house without reentering my password?

What? Do you work for Apple?
I have been on the phone for Apple since 5:30 Eastern Time today. We are still on the phone with them. It is 10:14 PM. We are going to get a new phone because the ios6 has major problems! The wifi connectivity is a serious problem. Apple is aware of it. More people need to do something about it. I am willing to start a class action suit against them. I have means to an attorney pro bono. If you are having problems using your iphone 4 or 4s with wifi and ios6...I suggest you spend time calling a senior advisor and get a new phone sent to you. They know they messed up but they can't fix it.

  • Keep the styles drawer open in Pages 5?

I searched a bit and didn't see anything on it. Please forgive if this has been answered. Is there a way to keep the styles drawer open as in previous versions? My workflow is to type in everything I want - as in a screenplay - and then use the arrow keys and mouse button to quickly descend the document and change the styles as I go. As in keep the mouse on a particular style (CHARACTER NAME, for instance) and then as I hit a paragraph that needs that style just click while arrowing down...
Anyway...I don't see a way to do this in the new version.
    TIA.
    David

UPDATE -- I have discovered a fix of sorts. Sorry if this is obvious.
Go to VIEW / Customize toolbar and drag in "copy style" and "paste style"
you can also access these from FORMAT menu or via command-option-C; command-option-V
Use this function to copy the style you wish to apply
Then go through and paste it everywhere you want it.
Not as good as the old way, but probably more efficient than constantly re-opening the drawer..

  • How do I keep the command window open?

I want to write a batch file that will leave the window open after running so I can see what the output is.
I kind of remember having to use %k
But I'm not sure exactly how to do it.
UPDATE: I found what I was looking for, it's /k when you execute the command file.
If anyone has any additional comments about scripting and keeping the command window open, please comment.

Add "pause" to the end of the batch.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In Illustrator, I have a saved artwork, then I'm saving a copy as PDF, as usual.
After I keep the AI file open, making some modifications which I don't want to save, so I close the file and click "Don't Save".
Even though I clicked that, the file's modification time is changing.
(The modifications I made are not there, so it's not really saving but why the date is changing then?)
Please find the cause of it! Thank you!

All I can suggest is that you open that file on the MBA and save it as a new file, then see if you can open the new one on the iMac.

  • How do I keep the find bar open when scrolling through multiple tabs?

The newest update of Firefox doesn't allow me to keep the find bar open when shifting through multiple tabs. I've tried Findbar tweak however that erases the search criteria as soon as I try to scroll down the page to the next location. Anyone know how to keep the find bar open when i shift from one tab to the next?

There is a more up-to-date "beta" version of FindBar Tweak you could try, if you haven't tested it already. You can find it on the extension's "Versions" page here:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/findbar-tweak/versions/
I did see one other extension with a similar purpose (I haven't tried it myself):

  • How to keep the whole page open during browsing

I am trying to work out how to keep the whole page open in Safari i.e. the top most line with the Apple logo, file, edit, view etc. whilst browsing.  What is the setting to achieve this ?  Since installing Yosemite my MBP 2011 with SSD is behaving oddly at times. Where is the "back" when in Support Communities or is going into the history tab the only way ?
    thanks

When in the ASC pages, my method involves opening separate windows.
So I can go back to the reference page from where I first visited a thread.
Also, pages open faster at times into a new window instead of a tab. As
my setup has a bit more display than necessary, a few extra windows are
easier than a bunch of tabs in one frame that have no point of reference.
Plus, if I wish to copy/paste or drag into another window, or access extra
content for the sake of reference, I have that; & may use another browser.
For some content, different browsers may be a preference. I'm used to more
than two, and one of three becomes more dedicated to things like web mail.
There may be some options in launchpad items, such as they are.
Mission Control can access other hidden windows. There's a short
cut for Full Screen that when used again, reverts to previous size.
Not sure if this gets near your question, but thought I'd put it out here anyway.

  • How do I keep the Character panel open and why are my font examples fuzzy?

    Hello,
I am unable to keep the character panel open while editing text.  The options will not open in the top tool bar next to  color and stroke.  The link to the character panel is in the top bar, however, I must click it each time to open.  Problem 2, is that even after opening the character panel and opening the drop down box, the 2nd column of text, the column that shows the font examples, is blurry. I've been dealing with this for some time, but had a little extra time today to ask for help.
I am using a PC and using Illustrator in Creative Cloud 2014.1.1 Release, 18.1.1(64-bit).
    Julie

    Hello,
Thank you for the reply. When I do Window > Type > Character still the palette opens up and I want it to actually be in the bar at the top. I  just opened an ai document from one of their tutorials and the characters are now open on top.  The dropdown is still wonky.
The left side is very sharp, the right side is fuzzy.

  • Keeping a socket connection alive

Hi, here is an interesting situation which I am trying to deal with. Basically what I want to have happen is the following:
Have a ServerSocket (called server) running and acception connections from users.
But where the catch comes in, is I want to be able to shut-down and restart the server without any of the connected users being disconnected.
One possible way I thought of doing this was using a middle-man style application (called client) which has a socket link betweeen it and the server, and another socket link between it and the user. But the server needs to be able to directly talk to the user and this is where I get stuck.. Basically then if the server gets shutdown, the user still has the active connect between it and the client, and when the server gets reconnected the link between the client and server is restored..
Any ideas? I don't know even if this middle-man style application is the best approach.
    Thanks,
    Derrick

How about having the server split in two, a lower
half that handles connections and an upper half that
handles the actual mechanism of your server's
functions. Make the lower half public, it knows
whether the upper half is alive or not, and keeps a
list of connections, buffering requests that may come
in while the upper half is being restarted.
you could do it in two processes, one for each half,
but you try to make the lower half simple and ensure
    it runs forever.
the upper half could come and go as it (and you) need
    it to.
now the upper half would run on a private port and
only the lower half would know about it.Yes, this is what I have done, but when the upper half wants input from the user in calles the inputsteam.. but the lowerhalf doesn't know that it has to then request the info from the user.. this is the problem I'm stuck at :(

  • OSB using socket Transport ,how to keep a TCP connection open

    hi my firends,
i met a problem , our project need build an OSB to control a socket service which is able to transfer a big data file (maybe a voice file,*.wav),and the client program will play the voice file on live.
So my solution is that : keep a socket (tcp) connection open, client listen port and makes date play.
but i can't make the OSB socket transport alway open,it will timeout after a few second if have none date received.
how could i deal with it ... pls let me konw if you have any idea...i will wait you on line
    thanks guys

    Hi,
I'm not sure if that's achievable using OSB, and even if it was, I don't think OSB was designed having this type of application in mind...
I understand that you need a media streaming solution and I'm pretty sure that there are plenty of tools out there that can help you in doing that, and maybe some of them can be integrated with OSB in some way...
    Cheers,
    Vlad

  • How to keep the internet connection alive?

Hi, I am a new Macbook user and everytime my computer goes to screen saver or sleep mode it keeps losing the internet connection. Is this normal? Is anyway to keep the internet alive even is the computer goes to "sleep mode"?
I mean, it is quite a pain to keep signing in at messenger everytime I wake up my computer or come back from screen saver
    Thank you

I do not know of a way. When your computer goes into sleep mode, it basically shuts itself down and stores everything in memory. Nothing is moving or working because the whole point of sleep mode is to conserve the battery. If it is really bothering you, go into System Preferences and change the amount of time it takes for the computer to go to sleep.

  • Is it advisable to keep the mac connected to the plug as often as possible while using it? (to keep the battery at 100%)

Reading the advises on the battery (long) life it looks like the main parameter of interest for evaluating the battery performance are the cycle counts.
This also means there it is better to always keep the battery charged while using the mac in order to never let it discharge consuming cycles.
Is it really advisable? Aren't there some possible drawbacks in doing so?
(Risks due to higher temperature, risk of battery malfunctions..)
    Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to ASC!
In the ~15 years I've been lurking here, there seems to be one recurring theme to posts about battery failure: the statement "I don't understand why my battery died! I never use the computer on battery power!"
As OGELTHORPE points out, use the battery every so often. I try to get 1-2 cycles on mine per month. How you do it depends on your usage pattern. I use mine at a museum where I volunteer one a week and the battery has more than enough capacity to power my MBP through my shift.
Think of your battery in term of human muscles: if we do not exercise a muscle, it will atrophy and become disabled. So it is with your MBP battery.
