Is it worth downloading Aperture 3.4 ???

With all of the problems with Aperture 3.4 is it worth the trouble of having to do a reinstall etc. just to get it.  I am using ML 10.8.2 with Aperture 3.3 and it seems to be working fine.  What does 3.4 add?  Does the old adage "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" apply?

See the release notes:
What's New in Aperture 3.4
Adds support for Shared Photo Streams on OS X Mountain Lion
A new File menu command can be used to open the current photo library in iPhoto
Includes performance and stability improvements
You have a better iCloud integration, a better integration of iPhoto and Aperture, and more changes under the hood for better stability and performance.
If you are really using iCloud and are using Mountain Lion, or still have plenty of iPhoto libraries in the family, like me, then you will profit from the new version.
Otherwise, just wait a little for the next release.

  • I've just downloaded 'Aperture' and I'm still unable to open iPhoto?

Hi, I have just downloaded 'Aperture' at a cost of £55.00! as I was unable to open up 'iphoto'.
I now have Apeture latest version available, 3.5.1.
    I have 'iphoto 9.5.1'
When I click on iphoto, I get this message:
To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, it first needs to be upgraded with Aperture 3.3 or later. Quit iPhoto and then open your library in Aperture to upgrade it.
When I click on Apeture, and try to use 'iphoto' I get the same message?
    can anyone help please.
    Cheers, Mike
    My Old Macbook Pro
    Software  OS X 10.9.1 (13B42)
Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 256 MB
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
Processor  2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

o.k. Mike, the iPhoto application and the Aperture application are, fine, your external drive is fine.
When I click on iphoto, I get this message:
To open this Aperture library in iPhoto, it first needs to be upgraded with Aperture 3.3 or later. Quit iPhoto and then open your library in Aperture to upgrade it.
Your iPhoto library is not fine. Where is the library stored, that iPhoto is trying to open?
My photo's are both on my harddrive and my external harddrive. My external harddrive is has only iphoto pictures on it.
I thought this means, that your iPhoto library is on the external drive?
I do not have a problem with my external harddrive.
It is very rarely attached to my computer, and only used when I want to search for a particular place we have been to.
So, do you have a second iPhoto library on your internal drive? Do you get the above error message only when your external drive is not attached?

  • Hello everyone!  i have a new macbook pro and i want to download aperture.  my app store says it is already installed (on my old macbook pro).  how do i install aperture from the app store in this instance please?

hello everyone!  i have a new macbook pro and i want to download aperture.  my app store says it is already installed (on my old macbook pro).  how do i install aperture from the app store in this instance please?

Are yoy sure that Apeture is not in the Applications folder of the new system? If it is move it to the trash and the App Store will let you download Aperture from it.
You will need to make sure you use the same Apple ID you used to purchase it in the past.

  • I downloaded Aperture and now I'm getting a "There was an error opening the database for Library " and I can't do anything else.  How can I fix it so I am once again able to run Aperture?

I Downloaded Aperture from the Apple Website then proceeded to download all my picture's frp, IPhoto.  The very next time I opened Aperture an error poped up stating, There was an error opening the database for Library "blank".  I can't do anything with the program but hit the cancel buttom which closes the program.  How do I fix it?

Is "blank" the name of your Aperture Library? If not, then Aperture is pointing to the wrong Library. Hold down the option (⌥) key while you launch Aperture by clicking it in the Applications Folder. Then select the correct library and press the "choose" button.
If that does not help, try to repair your library:
Locate Aperture library in Finder. Holding down the keys option (⌥) +command (⌘) and double click on Aperture Library to show the First Aid dialogue:
Then try to start Aperture again.  If that also should fail, try the other steps in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805
    Good Luck

  • I recently downloaded Aperture 3 from itunes. I have a problem with faces.

I recently downloaded Aperture 3 from itunes. I have a problem with Faces.
In Faces Mode when a particular face is selected it is wrongly including, from the 11.5k photos in my Aperture library, people with different names and photos where people have deliberately not been named. This happens every few photos between the correctly named ones and makes Faces virtually unuseable.
I took my 27" imac 2.8 GHz Intel Core i5 to Apple in the Trafford Centre where a patient assistant, Andy spent 2 hours trying to resolve the problem to no avail.
In his attempts, he consolidated my iphoto library into Aperture and even reinstalled Aperture. He confirms I am using the programme properly.
Iphoto Faces works perfectly and is used regularly by family, grandchildren etc,. I want to move away from iIphoto and use just Aperture as it is intended.
    Can anybody help.

I have tried all aspects of the troubleshooting basics including the 1st aid section except the rebuild data basis.
The Apple assistant at the shop suggested I contact Apple as he couldn't resolve this issue.
His laptop also suffered a snag I also experience where the left & right hand pointers intermittently stop moving through the photos. I have to come out of Faces and back again for it to resume operating correctly.

  • I've just downloaded Aperture 3 and two things happened

I've just downloaded Aperture 3 and two things happened 1.I imported only one album of 300 + images and duplicate images came over which I subsequently sent to trash. 2. All images, except for one, have disappeared from the album. Can anyone explain why this has happened and what can I do. Thanks. Patricia

    Thanks Terence,
Yes, I guess I had inadvertently added something to the search box. When I clicked in it, all the images were there. So thanks for that.
If the duplicates that came in from iphoto during the import are iphoto previews, was I wrong to consign them to the trash? So far, I haven't emptied the trash. I would very much appreciate it if you would advice me further on this issue. I would also like to now import another album from iphoto, but I will wait until I hear from you in case there is something I should do in the process to avoid duplicates being imported at the same time, assuming that they shouldn't be.

  • Download Aperture today and was never emailed the serial number. Listed as a purchase on the app store but no other info. Please help!

Downloaded Aperture from the Apps store, an it is listed there as an installed purchase. Never got an email with the serial number and it thinks it is  trial version. Please help

If you bought from the App Store (and you could only have done that if your profile is incorrect, it ways you are running 10.5.7) there is no serial number. Apps authorize using the appleid used to purchase them.
So what makes you think the app  thinks its a trial version? Has the trial version been installed on your system at anytime in the past?

  • Downloading Aperture on a macbook Air

How do I download Aperture on my new MacBook air when I already have purchased it for my Macbook Pro and iMac etc?

If you have the box version you cannot download it from the Mac App store - you'll have to install it using the DVD. Since the MBA doesn't have an optical disk, you'll either need to plug in an external optical drive or using DVD sharing.

  • Help! is itunes 6 worth downloading? plz read

I was wondering if ne of u have downloaded the recent upgrade to itunes the itunes 6 and if it was worth downloading because i read a bunch of problem ppl were having with itunes 5.01 and i dont wanna download this and then get screwed because i jsut loaded all 60 of my cds on here and that took like 3 days so plz write back

Don't Do it. Stay with wat you got, it works.
iTunes 6 has messed up more windows computers than can be easily counted, the outraged posts on these discussion boards are only the tip of the iceberg so to speak.
I had the older iTunes, it worked great!
But now, on my laptop iTunes 6 acts like some trojan program, trying to make connections to the internet when it's not supposed to do that. When it can't connect, it hangs, and you can not even end-task the dead zombie program.
Nothing else was changed, so it's not a Windows issue.
iTunes 6 will not allow Windows XP Home Ed. to even reboot properly, and no, the combatability mode (Windows 2000) didn't fix it.
I don't know what they did, but iTunes 6 does not seem as stable as the older iTunes.
So, my advice is if you can, Wait for iTunes 6.1 when they have had time to clean up all the problems. And you might wait on getting a video iPod, too. Being first is not always good!
I look forward to Apple's updates.
I've enjoyed iTunes from the start, and it seems each major revision runs into some bugs that need working out, before they get it running smoothly.
Maybe the programmers were forced to rush delivery of the new iTunes with Video? Meeting short deadlines can be very stressful.
I bet everybody has been working very hard to make the major changes to iTunes and the iPod. I know writing software isn't easy, everything has to be perfect!
I just wish Apple would post a small link to download the older versions, so all the people who have now have damaged windows computers could roll-back to the older iTunes and enjoy their music and shop at the music store again.
Good luck to all the programmers, debuggers and QA guys, thank you for making iTunes even better!

  • Can't download Aperture trial version

If somebody could help me I would be very grateful as the search I did on this category didn't provide any answers.
I want to download Aperture trial from the Apple site, but every time I click the download a new Tab opens with an empty window and the address is: "http://appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net/content.info.apple.com/Aperture/061-61 41.20090408.TR0r2/Aperture2.1.3Trial.dmg"
I already got three serial numbers and I still can't download and I have no ideas left.
    Thank you in advance.
    Best regards,
    Daniel

Thank you for trying. I have found the problem. It's Intego AntiVirus Banner filter, who would imagine?!
I stopped all other filters, but not that one, and now when I turned Intego completely off it started working.

  • Unable to Download Aperture Update

I purchased Aperture from the App Store. While I know there is an update, the App store indicates all apps are up to date. When I go to purchased apps it indicates there is an update but when I try to retrieve it I get a dialog box that says "You have updates available for other accounts. To update this application, sign in to the account you used to purchase it."
I don't have another account. How do I rectify this situation and download my update?
    Thanks for the help.

CraigS720 let us know if uninstalling one of your copy solved your problem.
To others in here, I do agree with you that if I wright something which is nonsenses, I should be corrected
    1. the Aperture 3 EULA correctly says you are allowed to install aperture on one laptop and on desktop mac.
the EULA licens correpons to the aperture FAQ nr. 13 wich say the same thing.
When I first read the Aperture app licens agreement in Mac appstore I must have misunderstood something
and thereby thought that you were only allowed to install on one computer... sorry about that
    2. Never the less!! I have 2 itunes accounts but I only use one in mac appstore....
(I checked... the other is empty..
CraigS720 dosn't wright if he is getting any massage i mac app store when he tries to update......
I my case I had aperture installed on both iMac and Macbook Air..... on the Macbook Air I all ready updated to
3.1.2, I then wanted to update my copy on iMac
Inside Mac app store the "Updates" tab said: all apps are up to date"
When I clicked the "Purchased" tab I could see that it was possible to update
    1. FaceTime (before I got a 000000 account error, which has been fixed in 10.6.7 update)
    2. Aperture (the version on my iMac says 3.1.1)
I updated FaceTime without any problems, but when I then clicked op the aperture update I got a massage
(In danish: Der findes programmer til andre konti) You have applications installed on other accounts... Again
I only use one account in Mac app store the other is empty.
I contacted the Mac apptore support on Wensday, and they confirmed that I did buy aperture with the itunes
account that I use in Mac app store.
Regardig app store support they are still looking into my case to find a solution....... However I was able to
make at temporary fix, by uninstall aperture on Macbook Air, then update my iMac and finaly re-download
    aperture on my Macbook Air.....
CraigS720 has confirmed that aperture is installed on two macs, therefore I suggest that he uninstall aperture
    on one of them.
Daddypaycheck...I think you should contact support too because your problem might bee different from mine
and maybe CraigS720 too. If you want my suggestion You can delete your app from the programm-folder and
still keeping your aperture-libray and then re-download aperture from mac appstore. ( might have to log out and
then in again on your appstore account
Terence: Sorry - I agree with you, how ever CraigS720 can't update aperture as you could.
Ok I modify my answer to Craig: if you get a message like I did with a other account try uninstalling the app on one of your macs
If not, you can allways try uninsalling the app on the mac where you are not able to update and then re-download
I think it is a appstore error, therefore I wrote to the app store support.

  • Hi, i was just about to download aperture 3 but then saw that version 4 may be available very soon... if i download 3 will i get a free upgrade to 4 or am i better off waiting? many thanks

Hi, i was just about to download aperture 3 but then saw that version 4 may be available very soon... if i download 3 will i get a free upgrade to 4 or am i better off waiting? many thanks

Thanks very much for your help, this is exactly the information i was looking for.
The idea of the aperture 4 release came from the october keynote presentation where you can see the new 'mac pro' being used with a different looking aperture interface by a photographer, rumored to be a trial version of a4. i apreciate that it may never materialise but there is hope! i will wait for the release of the mac pro and see if version 4 comes at the same time.
Untill then i will continue to use photosphop elements for detailed work and start to use iphoto for more basic adjustents.
I also noticed on the app store reviews that a lot of people are having problems using aperture 3 since upgrading to Mavericks (which  am running). this has put me off buying the program at ths time.
Thanks again for your help, James.

  • Is the "free" version of Sophos AntiVirus Home Edition worth downloading??

Is the Free Version of Sophos AntiVirus Home Edition worth downloading??

Mac OS X versions 10.6.7 and later have built-in detection of known Mac malware in downloaded files. The recognition database is automatically updated once a day; however, you shouldn't rely on it, because the attackers are always at least a day ahead of the defenders. In most cases, there’s no benefit from any other automated protection against malware.
The most effective defense against malware is your own intelligence. All known malware that affects an up-to-date Mac OS system takes the form of trojans that can only operate if the victim is duped into running them. If you're smarter than the malware attacker thinks you are, you won't be duped. That means, primarily, that you never install software from an untrustworthy source. How do you know a source is untrustworthy?
Any website that prompts you to install a “codec,” “plug-in,” or “certificate” that comes from that same site, or an unknown site, merely in order to use the site, is untrustworthy.
A web operator who tells you that you have a “virus,” or that anything else is wrong with your computer, or that you have won a prize in a contest you never entered, is trying to commit a crime with you as the victim.
“Cracked” versions of commercial software downloaded from a bittorrent are likely to be infected.
Software with a corporate brand, such as Adobe Flash Player, must be downloaded directly from the developer’s website. No intermediary is acceptable.
Disable Java (not JavaScript) in your web browser(s). Few websites have Java content nowadays, so you won’t be missing much. This setting is mandatory in Mac OS X 10.5.8 or earlier, because Java in those versions has bugs that make it unsafe to use on the Internet. Those bugs will probably never be fixed.
Follow these guidelines, and you’ll be as safe from malware as you can reasonably be.
Never install any commercial "anti-virus" products for the Mac, as they all do more harm than good. If you need to be able to detect Windows malware in your files, use ClamXav — nothing else.
