Is it worth getting an ipod classic over the new ipod touch if i'm mainly into music?

hey, i'm contemplating whether to get a classic or a touch. i have ~20 GB of music which will fit in both devices. which one should i get?

It's really a matter of your own personal choice.
The 160GB iPod Classic and the 32GB 4th gen Touch are the same price. A 32GB 5th gen Touch however, will cost you slightly more.
The iPod Touch is more fun once you start using the Apps. (And they're often useful Apps too!)
The iPod Classic will have greater capacity as your music collection becomes larger. Although you currently only have 20GB, one assumes that your collection will continue to grow. Don't forget that Apps take up space too. My Apps use 4.3GB.
The iPod Touch is "cooler" than a Classic
The Classic is unlikely to be a good choice for use while jogging. (It has a hard drive which will skip as it is being constantly moved about during jogging.)
So, for and against for each. It really is your choice.

I have just bought an ipod classic, I already have an ipod nano.  The new ipod was connected to the computer to charge and it named itself with my name on the old nano, how do I get the computer to recognise the new one?

My mistake, it was nothing to do with format.  It woldn't sync because my movies were HD.  HD movies won't sync to an iopd classic 160 GB but when you purchase a HD movie, itunes gives you a SD vervsion of the movie which is compatible with the ipod.  Just needed to go to store, click movies, click purchased and untick the HD box and there you have the SD versions.  Download the SD versions and then sync your ipod and bobs you uncle, movies are on the ipod

You'll need to copy the music from the old iPod back to iTunes first before you can transfer it to your new iPod. • TS1382 I have a new computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

I have a new Dell computer, how do I sync my Ipod Classic to the new computer

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
Or better yet, if you still have access to the old computer, use one of the method described in this article copy everything from the old PC to the new one.

  • IPod Classic and the new software upgrade

I've had my 80GB iPod Classic since December. I loaded it up with all my music and hadn't plugged it back into my computer until a couple days ago. I got a notice to update my iPod software so I did and it came back that it couldn't because there was an unknown error. Not only that but after I ejected it from there I wasn't able to restore it automatically) all my music was gone. A couple days have past since then and I've not gotten around to restoring it, which it suggested. It told me it would be reappear in the iTunes window when it was done. Since then it hasn't shown up and I've been prompted twice to restore. Has anyone else had this problem?? Can someone help me out?? It's now nothing but a blackish-grey screen with the apple icon. It's not even registering on my computer......

I've tried all afternoon to get it fixed and I think I finally found the answer. To all of those 80GB iPod owners having problems with the reset please try this, it worked for me!
iPod Classic keeps Continuously resetting at Apple Logo

Okay, I have sent in my iPod Classic, and let me just say its AWESOME! Okay first I found that other people were having a problem with the NEWEST iPod Continuously resetting at Apple Logo. There is a 10 step process in getting the help you need, follow these instructions:
*I got these from Jimmy_Dean, thanks bud...*
10 Simple Steps To Fix Your iPod That Is Stuck In A Continuous Reset Loop:
    1) While the iPod was resetting itself over and over (continuously resetting itself), press the Play/Pause button and the center select button simultaneously, for about 5 seconds, and it will display that it is now in disk mode.
    2) Start up iTunes on your computer and then connect the iPod to your computer with the USB cable.
    3) Click on the iPod in the left pane, select "Restore" to restore it to its original blank state. Follow the prompts to continue.
    4) When the computer completes the Restore update, and it displays a message saying that the iPod will disappear and reappear in iTunes in a minute, immediately disconnect the iPod (unplug it from your USB cable).
    5) On the iPod, you should see the main menu, in a few seconds. Pick a couple of settings to update for example the English language, and Eastern Time Zone (New York or Washington, DC), etc.
    6) Press and hold the Play/Pause button to power the iPod off.
    7) Re-connect the iPod to your comptuer with the USB cable.
    8) Start syncing using iTunes, as normal.
    9) All should be well.
    10) Remember to always click on Eject in iTunes, and waiting for visual confirmation, before disconnecting the iPod.
If these do not work, please go to:

This site brings you to a step by step process in getting your iPod fixed. Its very hands on, and the day I requested a repair or a replacement, they sent me a box. I got it in less that 1 day! Mind you that was the 4th of March when I requested the box. I got it the 5th of March, and I sent it in that same day with NO CHARGE! Apple pays for it if you have the warranty, if your iPod is in the first 180 days of purchase (they can tell), everything is free unless its obvious that you dropped it or something like that. Anyways, I got an email toay (March 6th), that says that they have recieved the product and are diagnosing it. Thats really fast, mind you! Well, I am now waiting for that, and then they will let me know if they can fix it or have to replace it. In that case, I will NOT BE CHARGE A PENNY for the services, they told me the process is really fast and I will get my iPod back in a few weeks at most.
So a total of 2 weeks for everything at most FOR FREE, thats a deal!
I live in a city that DOESNT have an Apple store in it (Colorado Springs, Colorado) and I am on tour ALL the time with bands, and I am just lucky everything is coming together fast and smooth!
If your city has an Apple store, you can check here:
    http://www.apple.com/retail/
You can bring it to them and they will tell you if they have to replace it or fix it, if you can get a NEW iPod for free TAKE IT there and then. You will save time and effort!
Let me know how this helped on this blog!!!
    Thanks everyone,

  • Help with ipod classic 80gb 2nd new ipod not working

I need some help with my ipod, this is the second ipod I have had in the same number of weeks the first one worked fine for about 8 days and then when syncing one night it froze and then would not disconnect, I searched the support section and worked how to reset the ipod which | did many times, in the end I restored the ipod to the factory settings and synced again the end result of this was that the ipod would not turn on despite everything that I tried. The apple log would appear and the ipod would then try desperatley to switch itself on with the apple logo appearing and disappering all the time. Apple have replaced the ipod and I have fully charged the new ipod synced it this evening all was ok, the ipod synced and then told me to disconnect and the same thing is happening again I have tried to reset multiple times and all that happens now is the apple logo appears and disappers it will not switch on or off, itunes keeps telling me that it cannot recognise the ipod at this time and the safely remove section on my task bar on my computer is telling me that the ipod has malfunctioned. can anyone help? am I doing something wrong someone suggested that I should have downloaded itunes once I had my ipod and not before, I have about 20GB of music in itunes and I was not aware that you needed to use or own an ipod to use this music storage system
    HELP
    Thanks in anticipation

well it looks like you might have a tech issue here; try to return the ipod and choose a different store and buy one ... also try to uninstall itunes totally, back up your songs on a CD or DVD, and then re-install a fresh new copy of itunes ... this might work ... good luck!

  • I have a 120gb Classic that has no space left on it. i am going to buy a larger gb capacity ipod as soon as i get clearer instruction on how to get the old ipod content to the new ipod. How do you get content from one ipod to the other?

how do you get content from one ipod to the new one? my content is on an external hard drive not on my pc and i have run out of space on my 120gb classic. can you get old ipod content to new? my itunes has only got short cuts, the real content is on an external drive? can this be done?? please help

If the content is on an external drive, but your library knows where to find it, then it should all work. Connect your device, make some selections for what to put on it, and sync. If, on the other hand, your current iPod is the only place holding some of your media then see this user tip: Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

  • Can't Install iTunes for iPod Classic over iTunes for iPod Touch - iPod Classic not regconized

I have an iPod Classic (80GB) in my car and wanted to buy an additional iPod for use in the house. The salesman assured me that the iPod Nano Touchscreen would be backward compatible with the hardware I have, but it wasn't, so the store manager kindly agreed to me swapping the unit for a brand new iPod Classic 160 GB (at the extra cost, of course).
I can remember that when I connected the iPod Touch the first time, it asked me whether I should install something, which I did. All my music was subsequently transferred to the iPod Touch. It was only when I tried it then that I discovered that it is not 100% backward compatible with my hardware.
Now that I have purchased the new 160 GB Classic, iTunes simply won't synchronize. I downloaded the latest iTunes and installed it - no change. I saw that you could make it work by checking 'Enable Disk Use' from the Summary tab. However, my iTunes does not have a 'Summary' tab, and when I checked further on Google, I found a statement on Apple Support that 'disk usage' is not supported on the iPod Touch.
I then ran 'Device sync tests' under 'Diagnostics' from the Help tab - it came up with the reply 'No iPod touch, iPhone or iPad found'. In other words, iTunes still thinks that the connected device is an iPod Touch and not an iPod Classic, despite me having installed iTunes several times.
Is there a version of iTunes that I can dowload that would recognize the iPod Classic? How can I resolve this problem? I want the same music on both of my iPods.

Please igonore - stupidity on my side - problem was resolved with a call to the ever-so-friendly Apple Technical Support helpline!

  • I'm getting a new iPod touch 4G to replace my old 1st gen. pod.  How do I get iTunes to get rid of my old iPod and recognize the new iPod and can I sych the new pod and get all of the content on it from my old pod?

    Hi-
Oops. looks like I hasked the whole question in the headline, but... How does this work?  When I connect my new pod to iTunes how do I get iTunes to recognize the new pod, disregard the old pod and transfer my content to my new pod?  Also, I have a G5 that runs 10.4.11 OS.  Will the new pod synch to this computer running this old software yet.  Apparently, I have to "climb the mountain" to find a copy of Leopard for G5 and I apparently cannot run Snow Leopard.  What are the needs or restrictions for synching a 4th Gen iPod touch?
    Thanks-
    DMitz

The 4G iPod needs at least OSX 10.5.8 on a Mac. You are right that the G5 can't use OSX 10.6 or later. Apple will sell you a 10.5.8 disk but you have to call them since it is not listed in their on-line store.  Price is $129.
    For 4G specs:
    System requirements
    USB 2.0
    iTunes 10.1 or later6
Mac: Mac OS X v10.5.8 or later
PC: Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP Home or Professional (SP3) or later
Broadband Internet access required; fees may apply.

  • I can't sync my playlists with ipod classic or a new ipod touch.

I have been having problems with my iPod Classic in my car.  Colleague used his iphone with no issues. I reset my iPod classic to original factory settings but now when I sync my playlists with iTunes are not included.  Very strange.

I'm having the same problem with my 30GB U2 iPod. I used iSquint to convert my video, and it plays perfectly fine on my iTunes, but it just goes to a black screen when I try to play it on my iPod. The movie is in Mpeg-4 format, which is supposed to work on the iPod-- right?

  • HT1209 I have an ipod classic and the new version of itunes, with itunes match.

I cannot find a way of transferring a playlist from itunes to the ipod classic. Can anyone help? Thanks.

Works the same way it always has.
If syncing, select the content to sync and sync.
If you choose to manually manage content, it may be helpful to enable the sidebar by doing Cntrl + S so that it is easier to drag and drop content on the device.

  • Can I exchange the old iPod nano for the new iPod nano?

I was wondering if I can exchange my old iPod nano for a new one even if it costs a tiny bit extra.

    Hi Deborah,
Your profile doesn't say what country you live in, but for example, if you go to the US Apple online store, you can click on the
    b Sales and Refunds
link at the bottom of the page, to find Apple's policy.
I'd suggest you dig a bit deeper into the online store site until you get to the appropriate
    b education store
    webpage, in case the
    b Sales and Refunds
links at the bottom of that page leads to a modified policy.
And even if you are past the stated
    b Refunds
period, you have nothing to lose by calling the appropriate number (eg. in the US: 1-800-676-2775) to see if you can get a Return Material Authorization, especially since you wish to order a new computer at the same time. The worst they can say is "no".
I'm assuming the iBook transaction was entirely online, but if it was instead bought through a campus bookstore to get the educational discount, the campus bookstore would then be another place to approach to see if they have different policies to the online store.
    best of luck,
    ...ben
PS. I assume you know that this is a user-to-user discussion forum, and Apple won't respond to the questions you post here? But you will certainly find empathetic, fellow Mac owners who are happy to help you if they can.

  • Ipod socks with the new ipod

I was just wondering if the ipod socks work, they seem to have got pretty good reviews in the store. Has anyone got them and do they stop the ipod from scratching?

just so you are in full possession of the facts; some people are saying that iPod Socks are actually causing tiny scratches on the surface of the iPod.
If thats true it could be because they are made of wool and not a micro fibre material. Even cottons and wools can cause minute suface scratches on some plastic surfaces.
It could also be grit and little particles of dirt getting into the fibres and rubbing against the surface of the iPod during normal movement.
Some people say they are fine however and have no issue with them.
I personally would not put a "naked" ipod into a sock without any other kind of shield on it, or if I did I would not consider that long-term protection. Invest in a decal/shield or a protective film for the front aswell maybe..
