Is it worth it to update to 14.2.A.0.290?

Hi Everyone,
I live in The Netherlands and just today got the notification from the Sony PCC about the 14.2.A.0.290  update.
So far, in 4.2.2 everything is working super stable with no bugs, and i can't help but be worried about updating. I see so many posts about bugs and stuff about the 4.3 update ...
Is it worth the update? Or should i stay in 4.2.2 until the next update fixes the issues in 4.3 (hopefully)?
Sony Xperia Z1

4.3 has few bugs but overall its a great update, I have an issue with my SmartWatch 2 and taking pictures while on the phone or skype and using bluetooth headphones, the audio will switch from the bluetooth headphones to the loudspeaker for few seconds while you take pictures then will switch back.

  • Is it worth it to update from Snow Leopard to Lion?

I just got my first Macbook (early 2008 edition for maximum savings moneywise), and I found out that I can't sync my iphone 5 and ipad mini on the Leopard OS that is on it. I've already worked out that I have to at least get Snow Leopard to use my devices, but someone also told me that Lion is better than Snow Leopard. Any opinions on if it's worth going to Lion instead of just Snow Leopard? And would it COST MORE? Thanks for any opinions, this is the first time I've used a mac since Computer class in 1993 in Middle School so I'm a little confused with some things...

    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Lion or Mavericks
To upgrade to Mavericks you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Lion, or Mountain Lion installed. Purchase and download Mavericks (Free) from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. The file is quite large, over 5 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
         OS X Mavericks- System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mavericks
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mavericks, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service - this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.

  • Is it worth getting the update for my Mac

I have a Mac Desktop which doesn't have the swipe options that the Lion update has? Is it worth buying for someone who has a Mac desktop computer with wireless mouse?

I like the "gestures" ... 1 finger move the mouse, 2 finger scroll, 4 finger "select running application".  You would want the "Wireless Trackpad" to get the gestures, though.
But Lion is a new world.  No install media, but a "Recovery Partition" that must be protected for disaster recovery.
And not everyone is happy with Lion.  I have no opinion good or bad because I do not use it, but the opinions range from "get it off my machine NOW!" to "I love it".
In the alternate, Snow Leopard has lesser requirements that Lion, and has "gestures".  Staying at SL is a good plateau to stay, since it still supports Rosetta to allow your PPC applcations (Office 2004, for example).  Many are quite happy to stay at SL until something better comes along.
For the benefit of others who want to provide input, you should tell us:
    Current model of Mac
    Memory amount
    Current OSX version
The path you take to Lion depends on where you are now.

  • Is it worth it to update an old Macbook?

Got a macbook 2007 white model running on OS X. Never been updated.
    Been acting up lately.
Wondering if its worth the trouble to update it to newer operating system
    thanks

Because an 'upgrade' does not fix a general issue in
a specific way, the reason may not invite upgrading.
Could be the hard disk drive is too full, not enough
free working capacity for the OS X to run adequately.
Or maybe it is getting worn out, and a larger capacity
new hard disk drive, +more RAM chip capacity could
be added to give it more life. Then, OS X 10.6 can
be bought on retail DVD from Apple for about $20.
    Then run Software Update.
And any other applications you have on disc to reinstall
it may be about as good as it gets. In practical terms.
What kinds of functional work do you use the MacBook?
There are two models for 2007. Both could run OS X 10.7.5.
But both may run better with OS X 10.6.8.
The MacBook, upgraded for a few hundred dollars, may
be what it is worth, as it is, if running OK without upgrade.
Kind of like fixing up the old car. You can add 50% of its
retail value, it can run great and climb hills like new...
And that may seem steep unless you really want to buy
a new car, & try to rationalize paying more on that basis.
    If the MacBook is a model 2.1 and a 2007, that'd be
    considered a Mid-2007. The model 3.1 is Late-2007
and has different specifications. So the value, specs
and information about it would be different, too. The
Late-2007 can be upgraded further, but that cost more.
Or, about 2x the total RAM capacity more.
Without proper identification, 'been acting up lately'
is like when my old mother goes to her doctor. While
each day may be different, the story never tells it.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • My ipod update wiped my music and videos over £330 worth, My ipod update wiped my music and videos over £330 worth

I gave into pressure from apple and updated my ipod touch, the sync failed and an error message then my ipod was wiped of over £300 worth of content! Why???? whats the point? whats the point of taking my music, videos and apps. is there any way i can retrieve my music at least?

Apps can be re-downloaded for free, and as you give the price in £'s I assume that you are here in the UK, in which case you should also be able to re-download your music as well - TV shows can also be re-downloaded here. Films can currently only be re-downloaded in the US (and not all films).

Did you not copy your purchases off the iPod before starting the update via File > Transfer Purchases and/or already have a backup of your content ?

  • Kernel Panic, Software Updates, Worth 104.8 Update?

Hi, hope someone can give me some advice.
We have been using a few GS’s runiing 10.4.7 for good few months now with no major problem. The predominate application used is FCP (5.1.2). We have been keeping the machine up-to-date via software update from the start. We have tended to do the updates on one machine and the follow with the rest a week or so later if there haven’t been any problems regarding updates.
    Until now.
Today we have had multiple kernel panics on the a good percentage of the machines.
This is the lastest from one of them.

It maybe a coincidence but yesterday we did a software
-up-date on the rest of the machine after testing it on two machine which had no problems.
It was not a major update the application where,
    iMovie
    Grageband
    iPhoto
    iWeb
    pages.
All up to the latest versions.
The only reaming update via software update the 10.4.8 update which we have help off from doing.
Could these last updates being causing the problems?
Would it be worth updating one of the machines that has experienced the problem to 10.4.8 to see if the continue?
    Or are we missing something?
Any advice on this would be great.
    Thanks

Your kernel panics are not caused by third-party software and is most likely hardware.
    Things you can try
Boot into Recovery and Repair the disk
Reset PRAM/NVRAM: OS X Mavericks: Reset your computer’s PRAM
Reset SMC (as you seem to have possible sleep problems): Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
You can try to check the RAM with Remember. http://www.kelleycomputing.net/rember/
Another way to check is to remove one stick and test, then swap. However, 2GB might not be enough to do what you want on the Mac. If it always happens on wake from sleep, then it could be a quick test.

  • Is this worth purchasing the update from Snow Leapord?

Is this Software/OS worth paying 30.00$ for? I am running Snow Leapord now. Is this that much better that it is really worth 30 more dollars. What does it include and is that the only thing I have to buy because I read something or someone saying they had to purchase the Software then a server on top of that or something. Help me please, and just let me know it is it one single price of 30$ and then I am good to go from there or will I have to spend more than 30$ adn also if it is even worth upgrading, thank you !

We can certainly give you opinions.  Of course, our opinions are all wrong.  Unless we use our computers for exactly the same tasks and in exactly the same way as you.  Ultimately, you are the only one who can decide.
Note that, contrary to what you'll read on these forums, Lion's not a bad update, unless you run afoul of one of its limitations.  Like the inability to run old PowerPC apps.  If you rely on any PowerPC apps, you'll have to either update them or not upgrade to Lion.  (To see which of your apps are PowerPC apps, open System Profiler in /Applications/Utilities, choose Applications (under Software) in the left-hand pane and sort by Kind.)

  • Trying to Decide if its Worth trying to update 3G to iOS4?

Seems like so many problems in doing the update that I wondered if it is even worthwhile since you dont even get all the upgraded features.
    Thanks!

I agree, something should be done and if the BEST provider for your needs is someone other than Verizon, you should make the switch.
It does not sound like a very hard decision. Good luck.

  • Is it worth it to update to 6.0 now??

There's a beta out, right? I like the new features that it's providing (all the GUI related stuff), but I'm wondering if I should go ahead and use it. I'm not scared of betas; I run beta IE7, ran beta Firefox before the real deal came out, would run beta Windows Vista if I had more RAM (what Microsoft product isn't beta, anyway???). Mainly I'm concerned about end-user support, and I don't want to be calling methods that they might not have (everyone is running 5.0 now)....
Can I include the added class files into my project, or are the new features at the JVM level (as in I would need users to change their whole JRE)...
Features I plan on using are systray, splashscreen(I know that this is JRE dependant with the JAR launching and all...), maybe something else that seems cool.
    Should I upgrade????

Should I upgrade????If you are considering them from applications in production, you should wait a little longer. I think you should use a separate installation instead of upgrading, there are some new features and there are a few likely changes to come.

When updating an app thru the  Apple Store in IOS7 it does not go away when updated like it did in IOS6.  I have a weeks worth up completed updates showing open when I go to the Apple Store.  How do we deleted these completed upgrades.

Fixed this with apple care.  Had a unique situation.  Will share by email if interested.

  • Software Update Service house cleaning

What controls house cleaning for the Software Update Service? If I ask it to stop mirroring updates that have long since been applied, the files still hide in /usr/share/swupd/.
Deselecting the mirroring of an update doesn't help.
The normal house keeping tasks don't seem to clear it out.
I could just navigate to the directory and delete by hand, but that just doesn't seem The MacWay™...

This is probably because you had it set to copy everything automatically in the first place and then you switched that option off. We run into the same problem and, unfortunately, you just have to bear the huge download of the last 4 years worth of Apple updates... Once that has been downloaded SUS will obey new settings. You may need to manually enable the updates if you changed that setting since the download started.
Mind it, since you would have everything there anyway there would be less of an issue leaving on the automatic download option...

  • Should I Update my Firmwar

    Hi,
I just bought a Zen Vision and so far I think it is great.
I was trolling the Creative site when I came across the Firmware updates. Can anyone tell me if it is worth it to update from .30.02 to .40?
Though I am yet to use it I would not like to lose the FM Record function available in .30. Does anyone know why it was removed and if it will be coming back?
Also as an aside, has anyone had a problem with plugging certain output devices into the headphone jack of this player? One thing that I am try to use makes the player shut down as soon as it is connected? Strange? I assume it is a self preservation mechanism, but what for?
    Thanks in advance,
    Spud

    You're very welcome.
Your notebook has switchable graphics...an Intel UMA graphics chip which uses shared system memory, and an AMD Radeon HD 7650M graphics chip, which uses discrete graphics memory.
The AMD GPU with its discrete graphics memory are still chips soldered and integrated on the motherboard.
That's what it means.  You assumed it was a removable card, and it is not.
There is no reference to a graphics card in your model on any of the official HP specifications for your notebook.

  • Question? Should I update my ipod video to 1.1

My ipod is currently using the 1.0 version and I'm not experiencing any problems, but I wanted to update to the 1.1 version. I have heard so many people say it has caused problems with watching videos and movies on it. Is is worth it to update or should I just stay with 1.0.
Thanks in advance for you suggestions.
      Windows XP

Well... I downloaded 1.1 and everything is working fine; nothing has gone wrong, the Only reason I updated was because I bought an iPod Radio Remote and the old software version didn't support it. If you do not need this accessory but then I might not update it.

  • Has anyone found a soloution to the update problem(update ipod to v1.2)

It seems alot of people are having this problem, the ipod wound update to v1.2 and an error message keeps coming up saying error code 1417 or something like that

it might be worth trying an update to itunes 7.0.2.16, and trying the 1.2 update using that. (i've seen fewer of the 1417s since that came out.) here's a link:

  • If I update ipad to ios7 will my photos sync with my iPhone 3GS?

Hi I am wondering if it is worth my while updating my ipad 2 to ios 7 as my phone is 3GS ? Would the photos still go to photo stream? Thanks

    No. Downgrading is not supported.
Apple have made sure that features that would slow down older devices are not activated in iOS 7 when running on those devices (features such as the parallax effect on the home screen, graphical blurring effects).
That's why iOS 7 isn't available on devices older than the iPhone 4.
