Is it worth waiting till January 09
Hi,
I bought a 24 inch iMac this year and it was my first apple computer. Since then I really want to purchase a Mac Pro and a 30 inch Cinema Display. I'm very tempted to go out and purchase one tomorrow, although I've heard that they should be releasing updates to the Mac Pro and possibiliy the Cinema Displays in January at WWDC.
I wanted to know if you guys think its worth waiting for the upgrade and if you guys think the Mac Pro and 30 inch Display will be updated in early January?

You can see Intel dropping older chips, and is scheduled to start selling their new "Nehalem" Core i7 chips and motherboards this month (bleeding edge). Last year this time was when current "Penryn" chips debuted.
But it really wasn't until April at least before the dust settled; for the OS to catch up to hardware.
And if you wait again, you will be forced into Snow Leopard (whether your 3rd party apps and drivers are ready is another question).
There have been a slew of benchmarks in the last week on Nehalem Core i7 but the real crux is getting software and compilers and an operating system that can really benefit from more cores. This represents the biggest evolution and break with the past Intel has done. And that is the good, AND the bad news.

I can customise my phone, tablet and mediaplayer as I like (thanks to the guys from XDA), it syncs and streams between my tablet and media player. I can integrate and transfer files, messages, contacts, etc between my phone, wifi media player and tablet without being stuck to an itunes interface. No funny apple conversion/compression tools required for viewing files across platforms, etc. It comes with most programs i use by default, hence no need to get much special or full version apps from the google market place. Dont get me wroing, Im not shooting down Apple, I just look forward to the day, they offer such functionality by default.
I dont mind not having usb 3, so thats ok, quite like thunderbolt. Its the retina display, and HD type that Im more concerned about. And rumours of them doing away with a dvd drive, I still wud like to have one, even in this day and age of wireless/cloud everything. Im sure by June, I would defintely have enought saved away for a 15"/17" model.
Yip, my iTunes library is a mess, only because I started it all wrong, having music folders all over the place, hence I need my own laptop to consolidate and start a fresh itunes library on a fresh laptop. Also since its a work laptop, I often have to delete stuff for space reasons.
Yes, as an IT Auditor I understand the concept of buying tech today, and by tommorrow its old :-)

Worth waiting for new OS for Macbook
I would like to purchase a Macbook, but i was wondering if it's worth waiting till october for the new operating system. Are they just going to put Leopard on the same macbooks? or are they going to upgrade the laptop entirely to handle the new OS? If they are just going to put the new OS on the same laptop, then i'll just upgrade, but if they are going to change the laptop significantly other than just the OS, i'll wait. So whats the deal?

OS upgrades and hardware revisions are completely independent. If a given hardware product is refreshed anything close to an OS upgrade, it is only coincidental.
In other words, Leopard will just come on the same machines that are being produced now, with the exception of any machines that get a refresh in the interim.

Hello Everyone, it has been @ 2 months since my transition to a Mac, and I love it. It's basically a rock solid OS, and has many benefits that you won't find in Windows.
I love the fact that Time Machine and Super Duper are protecting my data and backups. I can actually boot up from an external Super Duper clone and be right back in business in minutes. That alone is worth the price of admission. Don't get me wrong, it's not perfect, but it sure makes me not want to go back to Windows
Now my question is, and I'm sure I'm not alone, we Level 1 & level 2 users read online that update 10.5.6 is out. "Yipee", however my dilemma is that my Macbook is now tweaked and running great with 10.5.5
You know what I mean, everything just works great, Internet is fast, no applications crashing, daily nightly clones and backups going as scheduled, Parallels and XP hum along, the laptop doesn't overheat, and it just allows me to do my work, instead of spending nights troubleshooting issues or quirks.
I decided to go and have a look in the forums and online before updating to 10.5.6, and I see that oodles and oodles of people have had problems like: the download, systems crashes, time machine errors, and booting problems etc ...and so on.
Then I read on MacNN that there is 21 security flaws that are fixed with this update, hmmm, sounds like an important update, BUT, I don't want to spend a week troubleshooting all kinds of quirks and issues by going to 10.5.6
*So, do I just wait until the day that I have no choice to update, or do I take the plunge now?*
Or do I hang on, and wait till Snow Leopard.
What do you folks do in this situation? *Why mess with it if it ain't broken...*

Updating when your Mac is having problems is a recipe for disaster and then you arrive at this worldwide online hospital for sick Macs
Back up > Remove iPods, spare HDs and assorted peripherals > Download Combo updater from Apple > Restart > Then install and be patient through two Automatic restarts.

From what you mentioned it seems you’re having quite a few issues. Did they start after a recent software update? How long is your battery lasting? Is the phone charging completely? Keep in mind the battery life depends on the usage and Internet access will definitely use up the battery faster.
Let make sure a third party app previously downloaded on the phone isn’t causing the problems. Run the device in safe mode http://bit.ly/p5eed2 and see if you notice a difference. If you see an improvement you will need to delete all third party apps and reinstall them one at a time to determine which one is causing the problem.
If there is no improvement while in Safe Mode the next step would be a hard reset. Since you are having so many issues with the phone a hard reset is highly recommended. This will even help out with the dropped calls your experiencing. I know this can be very inconvenient to do but, it’s a very important step in getting these issues resolved.

How to wait till the end of DOS program started using Runtime.exec(cmd)?
In my Java program I need to call two DOS batch programs namely call.bat and start.bat. First I need to start the batch program call.bat and once that program is completed, I need to call the other batch file start.bat.
The piece of code which I am using is:

So it runs both the batch programs simultanesously. But what I wanted is that my program should wait till the first batch is executed and then start the second batch.
Please tell me how to wait between these two runtime commands in JAVA

Iphone 5-updated to ios 7.0.2 keeps freezing in lock screen.I always need to restart or should wait till a phone call come to unlock the screen. Does any body have the same issue??

iTunes accepted my de-authorize request but didn't reset. Now when I check it it says I have to wait till June 26th? There has to b a way to reset this! I can't wait to access my Cloud svcs etc for 2 months!
That means you had already done de-authorization once last Jun26. Please take note that you are only allowed to deauthorize all only once a year. Refer to this article:

I have just gone from PCM to MacBook Pro retina and would like to now go to imac. Is it worth waiting for retina on imac and when will it arrive

As a Mac man yourself do you think that the retina display is worth waiting for?
I'm 65, have used Macs since 1989, and struggle with displays, cataracts, and bifocals. What I've seen of the Retinas in stores is that text size gets sacrificed for image quality. There are quite a few complaints about Retina in the MacBook Pro forums about not being able to increase the size of menu text without it getting fuzzy.
My iMac 27-inch is about a year old and I can set the display res from its default of 2560x1440 to 1920x1080 and everything is sharp. I understand that handy trick will not work for either the older hi-res macbook pros or the Retinas, so I don't expect it for any other Macs.
Speculation on Apple policy and new product releases is actiually not allowed by the Terms of Use around here so I doubt you'll get an answer to the "when" part. Anyone who does answer "when" is either guessing it up or violating a non-disclosure agreement! Apple plays its cards close to its vest and we average users only know "when" when Apple posts the announcement. -
when renting movies on my Apple TV, I used to be be able to start watching when only 1 or 2% downloaded. Today it made me wait till it was fully downloaded in 2 hours. Did something change? Why do I have to wait?
Playback will start onice a portion has loaded, this will be indicated by the option to start now or watch later. If it continues to buffer during playback or there are other issues then that will be due to the network.
What is your current connection via speedtest.net

I want to use the option "wait till the end" on this button, but the WAD do not wait the end of the process chain.

ESPN stopped working- got to wait till 1st August?...
Settling down to watch UFC162, saw lots of new channels in my line up like EUROSPORT and BBC HD, and even though they don't work I thought, ooh , this looks good.
Tried o put ESPN on and noticed it's gone to a broadband channel. Sure enough, black screen. Rang BT Vision and they said I've got o wait till 1st August.
What a stupid system, a warning before te update would have been nice! Also, seeing a list of channels that I won't be able o get is pretty galling as well. No infinity on my exchange, but I get 19 Mb, so it really frustrates me, and I work for this flipping company as well - hard to defend or recommend to family and friends when this kind of thing happens.

I assume that you were moved onto the multicast software for a good reason and not by mistake. Was it because you also have Sky Sports and so now need to get them via ADSL because of the Freeview turn off?
If BT are going to provide ESPN via ADSL from Aug 1st (as it says here ) then it does raise the question of why can't they provide it in its current form during July? They are providing Sky Sports now so why not provide ESPN as well? This does seem to have been badly thought out by BT. I guess you'll just have to live with it for a few weeks.
I'm lucky enough to be on Infinity multicast, so can get all the possible channels. I can currently view Sky Sports 1&2, ESPN, Eurosport 1&2, and also the BT Sport 1&2 SD and HD promotional transmissions. Those not yet able to get Infinity do have to put up with a second class BTTV service when it comes to live sport. -
I went to open Aperture and got the message that "Aperture can not be opened while it is being updated"..... I have thousands of photos in there and as soon as I can get access I will be dumping Aperture and moving to Lightroom. I used Aperture for all my photography work and only rarely used Photoshop. Aperture could handle just about everything I needed and now I can’t even access my OWN FILES? Bad move Apple, it looks like the last time I’ll ever buy Apple software.
How long do I have to wait till I can access Aperture? I have files to deliver to clients and they want them NOW!

Memory 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3I spent the best part of a day moving Aperture files onto a Glyph 6TB StudioRaid in the hope that I could open the files I need on my MacBook Pro. I get set up and then find that I can’t open any of the files because they are all Aperture 3.4.5 or thereabouts and the copy of Aperture that I have on the Mac book Pro is 3.2.4. It cannot open the newer version of the files. The MacBook Pro is running OSX 10.6.8 I can't upgrade Aperture on there apparently.
I then go back to the iMac and dump the latest copy of Aperture, re-install Aperture Version 3 and it tells me " You can't use this version of the application " Aperture.app" 3.0 with this version OSX. I'm using OSX 10.9.4 on the iMac. I have NEVER had problems with Aperture until this last incident.
Now I am in big trouble. I'll set up an appointment at the local Apple Genius bar and see if I can talk to someone tonight. -
i keep trying to sync it but it keeps tellng me to enter password. i disabled it a couple time, do i hae to wait till completely disabled?
Restore from backup on the last computer you synced with, while the passcode was in place. If you have not synced, while the passcode was in place, then you'll have to force the phone into recovery mode & restore it:
Turn your phone off, then:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still dont see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
