Is Itunes 8.2 better than the previous one?

If I download Itunes 8.2 and I decide I don't like it,would I be able to restore 8.1.1.

Not easily.
There is no need to install every single new release. Unless you are looking for a specific feature in the new release, or are experiencing a particular problem that the new release corrects, you can skip most of them. Just upgrade a few times a year and you will be fine.

  • But how do I create a new iTunes backup password without knowing the previous one?

In case anyone keeps track of such things, I'm among those folks who really doesn't recall ever being asked to create an iTunes backup password, but that's irrelevant to my question.
I'm not in any bind. I don't need my backup files to restore anything. I will shed no tears as they are moved to the Recycle Bin (indeed, I will gladly do the deed myself).
That said, it appears impossible to create a new backup password without knowing the previous one.
If the only "solution" is to wipe my iPhone's memory and start from scratch, I will be a sad camper.
Any help? Are backups to iCloud encrypted?
    Cheers...

    Additionally:
Be super critical & meticulous (and whatever other synonym I missed) when you get a new password:
Write it onto your bedroom wall, or someplace off of a computer that you will always find.
If you active 2-step verification, the key is VERY important. Lose it & you may be toast.
If you don’t 2 step verify, & use the Security Question instead --> do not lose, or forget the answers.
Very nearly the same outcome!!!!!:  Bad experience.
If you add a 2nd email address, make sure its a RESCUE address not just an alternate address.
If you lose these, you lose access to your 3rd party purchases via Appstore for future upgrade. That will make you VEWY, VEWY UNHAPPY. Apple new OS versions do update, but add a new device & likely you will be unable to use your content on that device. It will never load if the ID locks up.

  • Okay, so WHY is intel's legacy driver way better than the new one?

I bit the bullet and installed the intel-legacy video driver because I wanted to see if it was true that the old one was better than the new.
Result: Compiz is REMARKABLY smoother. As in, I'd forgotten just how pretty a silky smooth Compiz setup really is. I've done no benchmarking, don't care to. The point is, for example, I can set the opacity to 85% in the Move Window plugin and it doesn't hose the framerate.
My question is, why? What's going on in the new driver that made the performance totally tank? When there's a new driver and EVERYONE seems to have the same problem, I'm a little confused as to why they "improved" it.

Not only KMS, but also DRI2 and GEM. The next Intel video driver release should support only UXA, getting rid of the legacy cruft and concentrating on supporting one option properly.

  • Installing ANT 1.5.3 --Better than the previous post

    Hello all,
I am a RIT student on my first internship an I'm in over my head. (At least that the way I'm told all first internships feel) Anyway, I am trying to install Apache's POI jar files into my JVM, so that I can easily read and write Excel files. The POI installation says that I need to install two components; ANT as well as FORREST. Below I have pasted some lines from the ANT 1.5.3 installation documentation, of which I have tagged with a few questions. The bold type followed by a Q# shows where I am getting caught up.
    <Install Document>
    Installing Ant
The binary distribution of Ant consists of the following directory layout:
    ant
+--- bin  // contains launcher scripts
    |
+--- lib  // contains Ant jars plus necessary dependencies
    |
    +--- docs // contains documentation
    | +--- ant2    // a brief description of ant2 requirements
    | |
    | +--- images  // various logos for html documentation
    | |
    | +--- manual  // Ant documentation (a must read ;-)
    |
+--- etc // contains xsl goodies to:
// - create an enhanced report from xml output of various tasks.
// - migrate your build files and get rid of 'deprecated' warning
    // - ... and more ;-)
Only the bin and lib directories are required to run Ant. To install Ant, choose a directory and copy the distribution file there. [Q1] This directory will be known as ANT_HOME.
Windows 95, Windows 98 & Windows ME Note:
On these systems, the script used to launch Ant will have problems if ANT_HOME is a long filename (i.e. a filename which is not of the format known as "8.3"). This is due to limitations in the OS's handling of the "for" batch-file statement. It is recommended, therefore, that Ant be installed in a short, 8.3 path, such as C:\Ant.
On these systems you will also need to configure more environment space to cater for the environment variables used in the Ant lauch script. To do this, you will need to add or update the following line in the config.sys file
    shell=c:\command.com c:\ /p /e:32768 I can do this one ;-)
    Setup
Before you can run ant there is some additional set up you will need to do:
Add the bin directory to your path. [Q2]
Set the ANT_HOME environment variable[Q3] to the directory where you installed Ant. On some operating systems the ant wrapper scripts can guess ANT_HOME (Unix dialects and Windows NT/2000) - but it is better to not rely on this behavior.
Optionally, set the JAVA_HOME environment variable (see the Advanced section below). This should be set to the directory where your JDK is installed.
Note: Do not install Ant's ant.jar file into the lib/ext directory of the JDK/JRE. Ant is an application, whilst the extension directory is intended for JDK extensions. In particular there are security restrictions on the classes which may be loaded by an extension.
    </Install Document>
    Questions
Q1: What is this distrobution File? -- If the directory contents are needed to answer this one, then just perhaps a brief description of what to look for (file extentions or name or somthing) would suffice.
Q2: Add the bin directory to your path. Ok so how would I do this?
Q3: Set the ANT_HOME environment variable... How can I do this?

    1) What you downloaded should be a packed file (zip, tar.gz, etc) that needs to be unpacked into the directory of your choice.
    2) & 3) are answered by Ant's installation documentation (the page you're quoting from):

  • WAP4410N problems, slightly different than the previous ones

    Hello,
I've just purchased a WAP4410N-E V02 for home use and I'm experiencing some strange problems.  Whenever the device is close to other electrical devices, it slows down until it eventually grinds to a halt, sometimes requiring a power cycle.  I can ping the AP, or my gateway (over the wireless connection), and the ping times go from 1-20ms to 15,000ms+.  After a certain amount of time, the wireless connection completely dies and the AP isn't even reachable over the wired network (no ping, no http).
By close, I mean like 1m away in some cases, or less in other cases.  Since this is for home use, it's a bit of a problem, as my placement options are quite limited.  Here are the 2 scenarios:
    1) close to my vdsl modem/router
the wireless-G connection on the router is turned off.
    Distance is 1m.
The AP is plugged into the router.
This setup is completely unusable, as it instantly becomes slow.  If I pull it away about 2m and place the AP on the floor, it works fine.
    2) plugged into my switch close to the tv/pvr (tv over ip)
    Distance is up to 2m.
When the tv is on by itself, no problem
When the pvr is on, the AP starts becoming unstable.
If I turn the pvr off, it recovers (unless I left it on long enough, then it gets stuck for good and never recovers).
So I can really reproduce these problems now.  At first I thought it was completely random and I was trying all sorts of different ideas like changing channels, changing ssid settings, etc..
Am I really putting this device in situations where it wasn't designed to work?  Just because it's a small business device, I don't see why it shouldn't work 1m away from a home VDSL modem, or 2m away from a tv tuner/pvr.  I can't really mount it high up on the wall, away from all interference because it wouldn't look so nice.  I guess home use has different priorities.
Also, seeing how other people have certain unexplainable problems with these devices, could it be related?  I don't know how their setups are, but I can say that the behaviour is similar to other posts that I've read.
What is the proper way to proceed with this problem?  Do I just return it to the store?  Do I need an RMA?  Or does Cisco have some recommendations that I can try so I don't have to return it?  I'm quite disappointed that I've lost a whole day trying to diagnose these issues.  I was hoping that if I spend a bit more money on a business-grade product, I would save time with trying to figure out the quirks of most home products, but it seems to be the opposite in this case.
As a note, I have done the following, as per previous posts regarding this AP:
    - using A/C adapter, not POE
    - Hardware reset
    - Install firmware 2.0.4.2
    - set wired port to 100mbps
    - single SSID, WPA2-Personal, 11 character a-z key
    - B/G/N Mixed,
    - Channel 11 (tried Auto as well)
    - Key renewal 36000
    - disabled connection control
    - 802.11d disabled, Germany, 20MHz bandwidth

See all the settings available in XLD and that will give you an idea as to how ripping could potentially vary between rippers. I don't know the details of how iTunes works but error detection has a lot of different settings with XLD.  iTunes does some too, but I don't think the details are publicly available for comparison.
It may not only vary with the rip settings but also with the encode settings if you are using mp3 or AAC.

  • Is the complimentary bottom replacement on the Macbook made better than the defected one?

I just ordered another Macbook bottom and I was wondering if i'm just getting another defected one or did they actually fix the problem?

We all have different priorities and needs.  For me the most meaningful change in the newer MBPs is the USB 3 connectivity.  Much faster than USB 2 or Firewire.  This is important when transferring data to and from external HDDs.  Note that in the 13" MBPs, one still can install larger HDDs if the need arises.
    Ciao.

  • I'm on my second Revolutiona and it's not better than the first one.

I am having the same problems as the rest of you with the revolution and also I'm paying for mobile hotspot with phone and it keeps dropping the internet or says web page cannot be displayed. This is not on a certain page it's all the web pages I visit.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
I would think that a charger would have its own warranty - probably either 3 months or 1 yr. Check with the store you bought from. I would delay this until you have your new battery as the old battery might be causing the light problem because it's feeding corrupt information through the software. If you can, borrow a good battery from a friend and check whether the power unit behaves correctly.
Your second problem looks like a swollen battery. Very minor swelling can occur with heat but more significant swelling is a faulty battery. If this is the original battery you should check its health using System Profiler. If it has exceeded 300 cycles you should replace it immediately at your own expense. In any case you should remove it and replace it as swollen batteries are a serious risk to the computer should they burst.

  • Is the hardcover photobook better than the softcover one?

I was just wondering, because I really don't know which one to buy. It is for my girlfriend, I'm moving away for a year or so and we won't see each other so it's a leaving present. I really it want it to look good, and last for a long time. So which one would be best for me? Thanks.

That is strictly a personal choice - for me the hard cover is best - but others like the softcover - your pays your money and takes your choice

  • New MBP's better than the old MBP's?

i have a 2009 13" MBP and been none too impressed with it. i just had an issue with wake from shutdown and i am wondering if the new MBP's are any better than the old ones.
i have been told i have issues because i am a "power" user (even though i don't really feel like i am and i don't do anything computationally intensive on the laptop) and i'm wondering if i have to get the 15" to get full power, if there is a machine anyone would recommend etc.
i have been sort of hankering for the 12" that is rumored to come out in part for the form factor and portability but i am a bit scared that this will be a step down and mean i have additional problems.
    thanks for any advice.

I would have to totally agree with EWW...
I also agree that the 12" not only has the best keyboard but is the best Mac ever, and I am not looking forward to the day that I have to put the ol' girl down.
I still mourn mine. One tiny solder connection on the motherboard broke, and it is $800 to replace, but I sure loved that computer. Bought it the week it was introduced and it was wonderful.

  • Song on youtube sounds better than the on bought on iTunes

    Hi,
Having just migrated to iTM, I was having a listen to some songs when I noticed one song - Gigi's 'Bale Washintu' - sounded distorted on the chorus (around 3:45).
To doublecheck it wasn't my speakers or soundcard I played the youtube version and it sounded better than the one on my iTM.
To doublecheck doublecheck I bought the original song again from iTunes and STILL the youtube version sounded less distorted.
Can the Youtube version be better sounding then a 256kbps itunes download??

Keep in mind, if you bought this from Apple or an Apple Store, you only have 14 days from initial purchase to return it for a full refund (in the USA at least).
If it is past that 14 day window, you will have to sell it privately and then buy a different machine.
If you bought from an Apple authorized reseller, then be sure to check what their return period and polciy is.

  • Is the Macbook Pro Retina display better than the LED display on the new iMac that is coming out?

I am thinking of either buying the Macbook Pro retina display (15") or waiting for the iMac 27" display. I am mainly focusing on the display, so what is better?

    vinay.sujan wrote:
Is the MacBook Pro Retina display resolution of 2880-by-1800 a strain on the eyes as I understand the higher the resolution the more strainful the screen can be to the eyes?
Well there are two or three causes of eyestrain with displays different people seem to have.
    1: Small type/UI elements
    2: Glossy screens
    3: Flicker rate
    1:
The higher pixel rate combined with the display set at the higher resolution is going to cause UI and type to be smaller and harder to see. In fact it's advised to set OS X to a lower resolouton so it upscales better to match the pixel of the higher display.
Reports coming in say watching HD 1920 x 1080 trailers on the anti-glare 17" is best as the pixel content matches the display almost fullscreen, where on the MBP-R it's upscaled and thus looks blurry.
HD content makers are NOT going to change all their video cameras to support 2880 x 1800 full screen, so in order to get a clearer image playing HD 1080 content, one will have to do so in a smaller window.
    2:
The new MBP-R dispalys are 75% less glossy, but not 100% less glossy like the anti-glare models so this can still cause some people problems. This can be lowered to under 1%, however I'm suspecting to do so would be considered giving up a military advantage to China where Apple gets it products made.
    3:
I don't know about the flicker rate if it's better or not on the MBP-R's than the previous screens.

  • TS3297 iTunes puts up a message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the Hong Kong Store." I had not requested anything from the HK store at that point, and I have never used any store other than the HK one. How I can clear that messag

I've been running iTunes on WinXP for years with few problems.  I have all my iTunes files on an external USB drive. I just bought a new PC running Win7, 64-bit.
I connected the external USB drive to the new PC and installed 64-bit iTunes on it. When iTunes started up, I pointed it at the iTunes directory in the external drive, using Edit > Preferences > Advanced > iTunes Media Folder Location. It showed a progress bar that it was updating the iTunes Library. I signed in and authorized the new machine. I have one spare authorization.
Then iTunes put up a message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the Hong Kong Store." I had not requested anything from the HK store at that point, and I have never used any store other than the HK one.
When I click OK, the iTunes Store page remains blank, apart from saying "iTunes Store" in the middle of the page.
I went to "View My Account" and pressed the Reset button to "Reset all warnings for buying and downloading items", but that doesn’t fix this particular warning. I also tried Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Reset Warnings and Rest Cache.
But still, every time I click the “App Store” button in the iTunes Store window, the message appears. If I click the Books, Podcasts or iTunesU buttons, these display normally.  So I’m stuck with being unable to purchase apps, other than through my iPad and iPhone.
If I move the external drive back to the XP machine, the same thing happens.  If I go to another PC - a notebook running Vista - everything is normal.
Any idea how I can clear that message?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Further info on my question above.
I have tried re-validating my credit card, which apparently fixed it for some.
I have also tried uninstalling, re-downloading and installing again.
Neither of these steps fixed the problem.

  • ATI Radeon HD 4870 not better than the Nvidea Geforce 120?

I bought av new ATI Radeon HD 4870 card to my MacPro. But are wery disappointed. My old NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 performes almost better than ATI. I ran Cinebench test and this is the results:
    *NVIDIA GeForce*
    Rendering (Single CPU): 3225 CB-CPU
    Rendering (Multiple CPU): 18880 CB-CPU
    Multiprocessor Speedup: 5.85
    Shading (OpenGL Standard): 6107 CB-GFX
    *ATI Radeon HD 4870*
    Rendering (Single CPU): 3218 CB-CPU
    Rendering (Multiple CPU): 18852 CB-CPU
    Multiprocessor Speedup: 5.86
    Shading (OpenGL Standard): 5846 CB-GFX
I also ran the Photoshop Actiontest from www.retouchartists.com on a large .tiff file, and my ATI Radeon used 1,10,2 and NVidea used 1,09,4. That is almost 1 second better for the old card.
Apple says that the ATI 4870 card performs 2x better than the Nvidea 120. That is not my experience!

    Hello,
I currently have a 2008 3.0Ghz Harpertown mac pro and I am trying to figure out what to do here. I just purchased the 24 inch cinema display, but yet I have a nice 1GB 4870 ati radeon I got off ebay. Its more powerful than the Apple version, but lacks the mini-display port.
Currently, I have the ATI RADEON 2600 XT connected, though inactive, while my 4870 is active.
So, should I just get the Nvidia GT 120 and keep my 1GB 4870, or should I get rid of the 4870 I have and just buy Apple's? Either way, the GT 120 works in a 2008 mac pro despite what Apple says on their site that it only works in 2009 mac pros.
