Is itunes 8 fixed (audio drop out)?

itunes plays fine for a number of tracks and then the audio drops out completely at the beginning of a new song despite the interface appearing to be playing as normal.
This was the major pain - even though it only took a pause and restart to get the audio back - it happened so frequently. I should point out that this may be related to my airport Express network, but it went silent on both my external speakers and my computer.
I found a number of posts outlining the same problem but no solutions that worked apart from one great one (sorry, can't find it now) which confirmed it was a problem with itunes 8. True enough, after exhausting every other avenue, i have reverted to itunes 7 and the problem has disappeared.
The problem is that I have lost many other upgraded features so can anyone advise me as soon as this issue is resolved in a more up-to-date version of itunes so I can upgrade without the problem returning.

Unfortunately, this is a known problem which Apple seems to be brushing under the carpet. Communication problems using Airtunes has been affecting a lot of users here. Try following the procedure outlines in the sticky of this forum entitled ' Solutions for AirTunes Issues in iTunes 8', and hope for the best. If that doesn't work, I guess you're in the same boat as the rest of us, and will have to wait till Apple sorts out this problem.

  • ITunes scratchy he||...with audio drop outs

I use iTunes v7.4.2 all the time to play music. Only lately my iTunes has been sounding very intermittently scratchy (static-y) and the audio drops out (without the diamond moving) at unexpected intervals (anywhere from 10 sec to several minutes). When I try to hit the volume buttons, I don't get any feedback sounds like usual. Waiting it out seems to be the only remedy...then it comes back again, and again...
I use MenuMeters to monitor my CPU and bandwidth speed and so I notice that this happens most when I am downloading torrents. Very frustrating! Curiously, I tried running a bootable clone of my system on a separate drive and I found that the problem went away (I'd have to run it for longer to be sure though). Could this be a sign of imminent hard drive failure?
Has anyone else experienced these issues? Does it sound like a hardware or software issue?
    Thanks for any replies,
    -Bill

  • Video & Audio Drop Outs on Macbook Pro

I have a MacBook Pro with Version 10.7.3, 6 months old. Just recently when I play video, regardless of whether it's in iTunes, iMovie, or embedded in Keynote the video sticks, audio drops out for 1 -2 seconds or the shot freezes. What causes this and how is it fixed.

I apologize for the audio drop outs. I have sent you a private message to get account information from you so we can reprogram your boxes.

  • Audio Drop Out

No matter how many minutes of audio or photos (believe me I tried from 2 minutes to 25 minutes of audio and 10-150 photos) that I use in DVD 6, the audio drops out for 3 seconds, always about 1 minute before the finale. Is anyone having the same problem.
I tried magic slideshow, all combinations and still...audio drops out.
When I used the 99 photo limit with the fit to audio minutes, nothing like this happened.
If there is a fix, please let me know.
    Thank You all

    Welcome to discussions, Bob:)
What is the source of the audio where the drop-out occurs? Purchased iTunes?
If so, burn the audio to an audio CD and import from that.
Also, how much free space do you have on the iBook?

  • Audio drops out when scrolling playlists after upgrading new version of 9.2

    Hi Folks,
Has anyone noticed an issue when scrolling the playlists in Itunes now that the audio drops out for a second.
I use an external USB audio device by Native Instruments called the Audio Kontrol 1.
I have watched the processes on my PC and when I scroll up and down on the playlist. Something spikes causing audio to not play for a second.
I am hoping to fix this somehow as I do not want to roll back (not even sure if you can). I also have heard with dual core processors that occasionally audio can get stopped as other processes take over where in single core processors everything cued up (any truth to that).
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much X & Paul, for your suggestions. Although they didn't solve the problem, they kept me hopeful enough to continue my quest for an answer. After exhausting all effort to find the problem in the audio, I decided to focus on the video. So, I tried correcting the excess luma on the consolidated QT movie, and suddenly the problem was fixed. Because of the different levels of correction I'd need for each and every cut in the original sequence, and the precious time it would take, I'd planned to save it for the color correction stage, a mere 2 weeks away. I remembered how illegal white would often cause the image on some monitors, specifically consumer TVs, to waver for a second. But this was happening all the way back to the DV deck's audio meter, so I never expected it to be a luma issue.
I assume that the outdating capacity of my G4 played a part, but I wanted to write back with my thanks, and to impart my illuminated wisdom to the next perplexed soul.
    Thanks again,

  • Audio drops out for a second at the start of the song

I have an 8gb Black Nano 3g. My first time syncing I added songs, video, and photos.
The problem I am having is after selecting a song through cover flow the song will start playing and around the 17 second mark in the song the audio drops for a second then it comes back on and continues playing. At first I thought it was the song file, but it was happening to multiple songs. I also verified the tracks on my computer were fine.
I updated the firmware and Restored the iPod software.
Since my iPod had all of my media wiped out I added back only music and tested it. It worked perfectly, no more audio drops. I listened to it all day just fine. Last night I added some new video clips and photos. Audio drop out problem has now returned.
After work I am going to remove the video files and test it again.
Has anyone else noticed this issue?

Yes I have the same problem, actually I'm guessing everyone has the same issue but everyone hasn't realized yet. Problem occurs just after the the backlight turns off.
After many hours of troubleshooting, I realized the cause is syncing photos.
Tried resetting iPod & and restoring many times, tried different computers (with different new test iTunes/iPhoto libraries), problem occurs with both iLife 2006 & iLife 2008.
Took back to Apple Ginza store in Tokyo for testing and a different iPod nano 8GB 3G has the same issue. Staff believed it was a firmware issue and filed a report. A few days later 1.0.1 firmware was released but still didn't fix the issue.
I have yet to file a bug report with Apple myself.
My screen also seems to be rotated about 1mm.

  • Audio drops out when following video to external monitor

When I play a sequence to an external monitor, the audio drops out for 2 to 3 seconds after changes on the video track, and then pops back in with no interuption in video output. It doesn't happen at every cut, but it's consistent in the places it does. I thought it might be caused by the size the project has become. So I exported the sequence as a quicktime file, closed the lage project, opened a new one and exported the new file and played it and it happened again, even though there were no edits. It doesn't occur at all when I turn off external video, and play it on the computer. I connected a new firewire from the computer to my DV deck, restarted the computer, but it keeps happening.
Is it that the dramatic change in color, light and compostion crowding out the audios ability to follow the video through the wire?
I'm completely stumped. The next step will be to open the computer and try to blow any excess dust out. I do this periodically anyway, and my last time was two months ago, so I'd be surprised if it works.
Maybe the G4 with 2G processing power can no longer handle the program, but it shows no sign of stuggle in any other way.
My clients are starting to grow restless.

  • IOS 5.1 audio drop outs - bring back my music!

I was in the car listening to iTunes via Bluetooth and later via an iPhone dock connector to stereo cable.  On both occasions iTunes also dropped all audio the first time another app made any noise.  For example, I'm listening to music and then my GPS app tells me the next turn, as soon as she finishes talking the music audio drops out. The next time she tells me to turn I hear my music playing in the background, but it drops as soon as she stops speaking again.  If I turn off Bluetooth, then force a connection back to my stereo the music works until another sound happens, even the beep of a new email will cause the audio to be lost.
As I sit here and type this I could hear the clatter of the keys, until a moment ago when I received an email (and got the email sound), now the keyboard is silent.
I just got another email (c'mon people, it's 6am on a Saturday!) and the keyboard sounds are now back.
My wake up alarm just sounded and my keyboard audio is gone again.
Didn't notice this until the iOS 5.1 update.  It definitely did not occur previously, as I used my iPhone for music driving cross country the week prior to the update.
    Thanks,
    Sean

  • Airtunes audio drop out solution that worked for me! :)

setup is DSL modem, AEBS main base station (software v5.6), AE (software v6.2), AE is in WDS mode as a remote base station. I am running OSX 10.4.3, and all software (itunes, etc) is updated current as of 6Nov2005.
using airport admin utility, i set both base stations to "g only" and still had audio drop outs. Then I left both of them on g only and set both of them on channel 5, (was on channel 10 before.) no airtunes drop outs!!
I have been audio drop-out free for a few days now and am cautiously optimistic- enough to post my solution. hope it works for you, too!

Thanks Bryan! Glad to hear you found a solution that works for you. Your suggestions are also among the many solutions previously posted in the mother of all discussions on this topic found at:

  • Preview Files Suddenly Go Missing, Render Entire Work Area Crashes Premiere, Audio Drops Out

I opened a Premiere Pro project I was working on earlier today and it said it couldn't find the preview files, searching my system found that the files didn't exist.
Rendering my entire work area brings up the "render window" but nothing happens, if I press cancel Premiere freezes.
Started getting a strange situation error ( 26 ::139 ) in After Effects at the same time that Premiere lost the preview files and the crashes started happening. It disallows me from editing any dynamically linked projects. In Premiere the DL's just show up as "Media Pending" clips indefinitely. Importing the compositions in AE into a new project didn't fix the issue either.
The three problems above started happening all at the same time, was working through a color grade using Red Giant software when it started happening.
Also audio drops out on playback randomly in Premiere Pro, tried various audio drivers and hardware, none entirely eliminate this problem. Sometimes the audio will cut out and "burst in" distorted very loudly, which is disturbing, even when my work area is rendered. This problem has been around since I started using PP CC.
I can provide more info soon or if people want more info pls let me know, I'm very tired and I need to get this issue resolved for tomorrow, in the mean time hopefully someone can point out a general fix for these errors or knows a few workarounds. Tried reinstalling PP and AE, no luck.
Computer is a Windows 7, 64-bit. i7 950, 12gb RAM, GeForce GTX 650, programs installed on a separate internal HDD, media files on another internal HDD. But these same issues (minus the audio dropouts) was also cropping up on a core 2 duo 13'' macbook pro.
    Regards,
    Zach

Hi Arjun, thank you for your help.
Though that didn't work either. At least the timeline will playback but as soon as I try to render my work region or export any video Premiere freezes.
I removed all dynamic linked files as well, that didn't seem to change anything.
Something I noticed -- the render bar on the timeline that is usually yellow for edited clips that have no FX on them is all red, nothing is yellow (or green). This is a 4 minute long edit on a music video, nothing extraordinary.
I tried creating a new project and dragging a few clips in and editing them, everything went normally and I could render and export the clips. Just any rendering done on any version of this music video edit I'm working on crashes the program.
Also recently had a problem where I opened the music video project and the song that I imported (.mp3) all of a sudden has no waveform or sound coming from it. Dragging it back into the project doesn't fix it either. Workaround was using a .wav copy of the song.

  • UPDATE: Audio dropping out in places after publishing MP4 in Captivate 7

UPDATED: Bumping this up thread, in the hopes someone will see it and reply. No one has any suggestions? I'm really struggling with this and getting super frustrated. Anyone from Adobe reading this? Thoughts? Thanks in advance for any help that can be provided.
I've had this issue on other tutorials I've done, but today I'm at my wits end.
I have a short presentation (3 slides - about 2 1/2 minutes total). The slides were imported from PowerPoint. The audio was recorded directly in Captivate. I've made sure to leave a bit of silence at the beginning and end of each slide.
The audio in preview is perfect. When I publish as a SWF or HTML 5 files, the audios is perfect. Unfortunately for me, I need the output to be MP4.  When I publish it as an MP4, on the second and third slides, the audio drops out in several places - the first slide is fine. it does not occur at the beginning or end of slide, it's sporadically within the audio.
For instance, it will be something like this "First look at the feed display (in the middle of the) page. It's divided into (three) sections. In the (federation feed section) you'll find the (activity), and updates across the interoffice (user base), in the My Feed section you will find a filtered set of (discussions based) on your interests."
The words in parentheses would drop from the audio. I've force republished 10-12 times today. Each time, the audio chooses to drop out different words  - occasionally the same.
There seems no rhyme or reason to what's occurring. Help! I'm on a really tight deadline.
Can you recommend any fixes or settings that may help this? It feels like a crap shoot - I just keep trying different things and hoping that eventually I'll get something usable.
Thanks for any help or suggestions you can provide.
PS I've also copied the slides into a brand new project and had the same result when publishing.

Have either of you tried deleting the preference files and then running a disk repair?
    Quit iDVD.
Locate a file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and get rid of it. iDVD will create a new one the next time it runs. Empty the trash and run a permission repair using the Disk Utility.

  • Audio drops out randomly in FCP5

    Hello,
I'm running FCP 5.0.4 on a G5 OSX 10.3.9 and a AJA io LA with current firmware v1.1 and driver v2.1.
When playing a sequence, audio will be fine. Going from AJA through mixer, to speakers and decks. Then the audio will cut ot completely, but video will continue to play. The meters in FCP show the audio is there, but nothing is getting to the mixer, and therefore nothing is getting onto tape, or coming out of my speakers. This problem occurs in every project we've worked with, and doesn't happen at the same point in the sequence. Any ideas? I'm not sure what other info might be useful, so please request more if you have any ideas. Thank you for your time.
    Ben Slocum
    KCOY-TV/KKFX-TV

Hi all -- I've experienced this problem on a number of projects, one tonight prompted me to check the forum. I used one of the work-arounds and want to report on it, in case it works for someone else or someone with the FCP development team is reading.
My timeline would drop the audio at a repeatable point each time. If I nested the sequence in another sequence, the audio would play but would have a nasty discontinuity right at the frame where the audio drops out in the original sequence.
I used the transparent video slug work-around and it worked (create a slug, set its transparency to zero and place it over the spot where the audio drops out). This occured twice in my timeline. Both times I had used a certain video clip. I had to stretch the slug to exactly match the duration of the offending video clip in order to keep the audio from dropping out.
This sounds like a bug that should be repeatable and fixed. If anyone with FCP development team wants my project, I would be glad to send it to them on a DVD for investigation. I'm running FCP 5.0.3 on a G5 dual 2.7GHz with an internal SATA drive, so it probably isn't a machine speed issue. (I tried the re-render trick and that didn't work and if I remove the slug or change its duration to anything less than the duration of the offending video clip, the audio drops out again.)

  • Audio drops out for a ½ second about every minute

    Hi There,
I’m wondering if anyone else is experiencing this problem. I have a 3 G with 3.0. When listening to Bluetooth audio through the SYNC system of my Ford Focus, the audio drops out for a ½ second about every minute. It does this persistently.
    Any fixes?

My 3GS seems to have an occasional dropout using A2DP with my Kenwood head unit, but I don't think it ever happened with my 3G (both running OS 3.0). It seems like some kind of a latency issue between the iphone and the head unit.

  • Static and audio drops out

I am not sure if I am in the right Discussion area. If not, please advise where to post. After having work done (new mother board and power supply) on my iMac I heard a static or scratchy noise in the lower right side behind my screen while listening to iTunes the week after I got the machine back. Some songs(with more treble) were worse than others. My parents and I iChat every Sunday. The static now interferes with our iChats and the audio drops out and then will come back. They hear it more on their end than I do on mine. I tried turning the speakers way over to the left and that did help some when listening to iTunes, hulu but, not the iChat problem. My question is - do you suppose it is my speakers rather than another issue such as bandwidth or setting elsewhere? And if I were to buy external speakers would those then just amplify the existing issue? The computer on the other end is an iMac running snow leopard. Could it be that the microphone wasn't put back in correctly during my last repair?

    Hi paperchase
That kind of sounds like the right internal speaker is bad or loose and the Internal Mic is picking up on the noise from it.
One thing to try before committing to a 2.0 or 2.1 External Speaker System, is to test the iMac's external output sound with iPod buds or a set of headphones. That at least will give you a better idea if the problem is with the right internal speaker or something worse like the sound card.
Likewise if the repair work was recent, then perhaps you should contact the service provider and report that it came back with an intermittent or rattling right speaker.
    Dennis
