For protected AAC files, no. And we cannot discuss bypassing the protection here. For iTunes Plus items, they should play (and if not, can be converted to another format legally). For more info on iTunes Plus, see here:

It may or may not install and run but Windows 8 is not yet officially supported.

regarding sony erricson P990....i guess u will need to look into its wi-fi settings..
ensure that if the router has the wireless security enabled on it..it is supported by the devices....NDS lite only supports WEP....not sure about P990

New isync 2.2 won't synce with sony ericsson S700i on 10.4.6

Like everyone else I was happily running iSync with 10.4.5 worked perfect now after updating to 10.4.6 I get the same as with everyone else. I did all the blah blah Apple 2.2 Sync details to the letter from their site. Sync gets most of the way and the phone spews back the " can't do this cos of error in phone???".....we are all feeling the pain I think. So tell me Apple? Did you try it on a Sony Ericsson before give it to us???....Man talk about a pain.
You should have left it alone? So do I get to send you a bill for my lost time? I charge $200 per hour as a design consultant and you and your great update has cost me an $200 in lost time....would have rather spent it on itunes at least that way I get something for my money instead of a frustrating experience. Problem with iTunes compatability with iMovie and iPhoto

I purchased some music from the iTunes music store and wanted to use that music in a homemade DVD I made. I also have tried using the purchased music when I play a slideshow in iPhoto. In both instances, an error window popped up saying that I needed to launch iTunes and authorize the computer to play the song... Well I bougth the music on the same computer and it is authorized. I typed in the authorization anyways and then after that iMovie and iPhoto both pop up with an error saying that it can't use the file.
Thinking it might just be one song file... I have tried this with many purchased song. I have had the same problem with all of the purchased songs I've tried.
Are some purchased songs not compatable with the iLife applications? How can I fix this problem? I'm running iLife 05 and I have installed all of the updates, including the most recent...

the above specification will fully support the advanced music control features of the DS980..on the other hand for full control over phone book the phone should support bluetooth phone book access which i don't think the phone does. "a point that has to be confirmed by other members".
another point is the laguage used on the phone, if you're using non english characters on you phonebook , please change one of the names to english letters and see if it appears on the headdset. if it does then the headset only supports certain languages and phone book entries has to be in that form to appear.

Problems with my 6300 paired with Sony Ericsson B/...

I hope someone can help with this...
When I pair my 6300 (firmware v.5.5) with my Sony Ericsson stereo Bluetooth headset (HBH-DS970) I get a message "Only Audio Files will be transferred."
ONLY the music controls work! No phone audio or functions at ALL: no phone audio, the answer phone button does not work, and caller ID function doesn't work.
Has anyone else had this problem, or know of a fix?

The full retail install disks are available here and at any Apple Store and many computer retailers. Also, check the system requirements. Be sure your Mac has firewire and enough ram to run Tiger. At this point you might be able to find the disks at a slightly discounted price because of the coming release of 10.5 Leopard. But be sure it is the black disk, boxed version if possible.
EDIT: And the install disc for Tiger is a DVD, so be sure your iMac has DVD.
This may help to narrow down the model iMac you have.

Since this forum is for troubleshooting compatibility issues between Mac OS and Windows, you should probably post your question in the Final Cut Pro/Express or the iMovie forums, as if anyone has used the camcorder you'll most likely find them there.

Itunes compatibility with the new Netbooks

I just bought a Samsung Netbook with the 1.6 Ghz processor, 1 GB RAM and 250 GB harddrive, installing ITunes appears to finish, but the program is no where to be found. Is there a compatibility issue with ITunes and NetBooks?

Not that I've heard about. Mostly itunes performance on a netbook won't be very good, but it should install.
Did you right-click install as an admin? Is the itunes.exe showing in Taxs Manager > Processes?

233 MHz G3 Compatibility with Sony SDM-X52 15" LCD Monitor

Trying to interface the subject items, the monitor recognizes the Mac's video output on its input #2, but shows the error "Scan Out of Range," and "Frequency 43.3 Khz/85 Hz." According to the Sony manual this means the horizontal scan frequency is 43.3 KHz, which is within the monitor's range, but the vertical frequency needs to be 56 - 75 Hz. The graphics card in the G3 is the original OEM ATI Rage II+, which Apple states "supports refresh rates up to 85 Hz." However, I haven't the slightest idea how to reduce that rate to between 56-75 Hz.
There is an adapter on the G3's monitor output which allegedly converts to a VGA/SVGA signal, and it does mate with a cable that is compatible with the Sony monitor. This adapter contains slide switches and a rotary dial, and a label on the bottom which identifies the characteristics for its various settings. The G3 was previously interfaced with a CRT monitor, and worked fine. The current settings on the adapter are for 640x480/800x600 resolution with vertical and horizontal sync signals active (these can be turned off but have not tried that).
The adapter has no manufacturer name or logo, only an icon of the Liberty Bell molded into its case.
Would anything I do to this adapter's settings change the vertical scan frequency?
(BTW, the monitor works perfectly on its DVI-D input #1 with my G5.)

The reason I asked if you had another monitor, is that the initial settings (the ones used at the beginning of startup) for the monitor are stored in the Mac's PRAM. After the OS has loaded sufficiently for additional or other settings (if they are different than those in PRAM - not common, but possible, especially when switching from one OS to another) in the appropriate prefs file(s) to be read, those take over.
If you had a different monitor to use, you could use it to get the machine running, then use the Monitors control panel to reset the resolution and frequency to a combo acceptable to the monitor. Then shut down, swap monitors, and give it a try. When the machine is shut down, the applicable settings in the prefs files are transferred to and stored in PRAM, making them the initial governing settings at the next boot.
You might try a reset of PRAM (zapping the PRAM, in old lingo). Doing this should reset the settings in PRAM to the default ones, probably 480x600 @ 60Hz for your model. Later model G3s and G4s default to 600x800 @ 60Hz.

If that works initially, then immediately press the Shift key and keep it held down until the desktop has loaded. This will prevent the Monitors control panel (along with other control panels and non-critical extensions) from becoming active - and with a bit of luck will prevent the prefs file from being read.
If that works, then go into the Preferences folder in System Folder and trash the Display Preferences and Monitors Preferences files. Empty the Trash. Then try a normal restart.

Itunes compatibility with shuffle and nano

HI,, i bought an ipod nano, and then I installed the itunes, I have two computers. One is of my mom, and the other one of everyone else. I installed the i-tunes in my mom's computer, and everything was ok until she told me that she doesn't want i-tunes in her computer because the virus and that stuff, and then I tried in the other computer, but my brother has an ipod shuffle,and when I wanted to sincronize songs to my ipod nano, it said that the ipod just can work with one library (or i-tunes), if you want to be in that library, you have to reset everything, and I want to reset it, because I don´t have another choice, but I don´t know if the two ipods, the shuffle and nano can work with the same itunes, If I can do that, please tell me how, to keep the songs or the libraries unmixed.

There are basically two ways of using multiple iPods on a computer and these involve:
a) Sharing a single iTunes library and or user account.
b) Creating multiple user accounts and having separate libraries.
Sharing a Library and/or User Account
If you want to share the one library, you can set either or all of the iPods so that they only get updated with only certain playlists (you can update from more than one if you wish):

Choosing the update option "Sync Music - Selected playlists" allows you to create a playlist specifically for the iPod and drag the tracks you want into it. If you tire of the list and want to change it, you just add or remove the songs you don't want. The ones you take out out remain in the library to be used some other time if you choose. Or you can choose to update any or all of the iPods manually and just drag whatever content you want to them: Managing content manually on iPod

It's also possible to have multiple libraries in a single account. To create or access a second (or more) library, hold down the Option key (or Shift key in Windows) when launching iTunes 7. In the resulting dialogue you will get the option to create a new library or navigate to the other Library.
Note: You can only have one Library open at a time and iTunes will default to the last library opened if you don't use the keyboard command to choose one. This can prove tricky when using multiple iPods, if you don't use the keyboard command you can risk syncing to the wrong library:

Separate User Accounts
Another option is to create a separate User account for each person on your PC or Mac. Different accounts by definition would give you completely separate libraries. Each account has it's own iTunes folder, Library and iTunes Music folder and you load it with CDs etc just as you did with your original one. The iPod can be set to update however the owner chooses, sync all, manual or sync specific playlists
